2401  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do we really need so many kinds of coins? on: January 27, 2014, 11:02:11 PM
I think there should be this many altcoins since very many people didnt get into the bitcoin game early, Its a great to start of investments, I am saving Protoshares and DOGE, and a Few dimecoins to see how much they are worth i the future so I can save for a college. But I will be greatly dissapointed if that happened.

So, Yes,IMO there hsould be that many.  Grin

But, as others have said, a lot of these coins are 'pump and dump', meaning they're not good for storing money. They won't last forever.

Makes me chuckle when people talk about their coins having longevity and they're in it for the longrun, especially when they've only been out a month or two. People said this about Doge and Coinye lol.
LOL, I have 10,400 DOGE coins on the 2nd of this month for $2 mindnig that the guy also added a few 400 DOGE coins, and Now they are worth $21. Doesn't that tell you something? I am just optimistic, and thats a good thing. IMO!

If one of the coins I have makes it too, I will cash all of them in.

It tells me that there's short term small amounts of money to be made, without investing big bucks. If you were that confident about it, why did you only put in $2? You must have had reservations about alts yourself.

Yup, grab your chance to buy it cheap now before the price goes 1000x lol.
2402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do if the bitcoin qt client hangs on: January 27, 2014, 10:53:08 PM

I think that QT has become a liability. The download page should actively discourage n00bs from using it, and point them towards a light client instead.

It does have a warning here http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Quote
Bitcoin-Qt is a full Bitcoin client and builds the backbone of the network. It offers the highest levels of security, privacy, and stability. However, it has fewer features and it takes a lot of space and memory

And here http://bitcoin.org/en/download

Quote
You will need to be patient
Bitcoin-Qt initial sync can take a very long time to complete. You should make sure that you have enough bandwidth and storage for the full block chain size. If you know how to download a torrent file, you can speed up this process by putting bootstrap.dat (a previous copy of the block chain) in the Bitcoin-Qt data directory before starting the software.

Looks like the wallet address has been removed from this thread, thus one piece of evidence is lost, no matter how minute, to never be used against the OP in the future, allowing him and his blue car to get away if he is a scammer.

If you really want to see that address, search this thread "https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=434352.0" on google, and check the google cache.  Wink
2404  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my first 2 attempts to buy bitcoin on: January 27, 2014, 10:44:13 PM
mining be beter i am think way stability

I don't think so...
It is so much more difficult and time-consuming.
Plus, you can find even more scams in mining hardware, but you can hardly find any hardware to get your investment back.
2405  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: January 27, 2014, 10:40:50 PM
Bitcoin is over 1000$ on mt.gox again yay  Smiley

mtgox? Forget about it completely. The price there is just irrelevant.
2406  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mt. Gox market values on: January 27, 2014, 10:39:22 PM
Why are the Mt. Gox BTC values so much higher than other exchanges?  Is anyone paying that price?
Due to the long waiting times to withdraw fiat out of Mtgox, I guess people are just buying and then withdrawing Bitcoins as it would be quicker.

Exactly.
People having been waiting for months to get their USD withdrawals.
Some decide not to wait anymore. They cancel the USD withdrawal, buy back some bitcoin, and make a BTC withdrawal instead.
2407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coming Soon! on: January 27, 2014, 10:37:56 PM
Have a big announcement coming soon!  Keep your eyes peeled!

What are you going to announce?
New bitcoin service? Alt-coin?

You should sit down....

the test results came back...  Embarrassed

We really should have used a condom.

lol
2408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi Everyone!!! on: January 27, 2014, 10:34:54 PM
You're a dude pretending to be a girl? Because that's what tends to happen with 99% of the users who claim to be women on here.

Shhhh....don't tell anybody....
2409  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins stolen - advice needed on: January 27, 2014, 10:30:06 PM
Out of interest what would someone need to restore the armory wallet.  Would just the primary wallet address and encryption password be sufficient or would they need more? I.e would that HAVE to do this from my PC.

I have 1 paper backup under lock and key and this hasn't been touched.

The address is just for someone to send bitcoin to it. It has nothing to do with the hack.
To get your bitcoin, the hackers need your wallet file and also your encryption password.

Apart from the paper backup, do you have any other backup somewhere online (eg. email / dropbox) ?
Or, maybe there is a trojan / keylogger on your computer, and then the hacker takes both your wallet and password. Sad
2410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining using CPU on: January 27, 2014, 10:21:53 PM
GPUs are really good at certain types of mining

lol, OP was asking about mining with CPU.

I think mining BTC with CPU isn't profitable anymore but maybe mining a CPU alt-currency of good value like quark or similar can be profitable if you don't have a good GPU.

Yes, OP should use the CPU to mine some CPU-only coin.
2411  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining time on: January 27, 2014, 10:15:55 PM
LOL mining BTC with anything other than ASIC is pretty useless. if you want to mine CPU,GPU look for a good easy Alt-currency.

Exactly.
Mine those scrypt-based alt-coins, and sell them for bitcoin afterwards.
2412  Other / Meta / Re: What does it take to go from Newbie to Jr Member status? Number of posts? on: January 27, 2014, 10:14:16 PM
i think you need 30 posts to go from Newbie to Jr Member status but not sure

Not only that.
You can refer to the above posts for the exact requirement for different membergroups.
2413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: selling bitcoin on: January 27, 2014, 10:12:52 PM
but who is going to use this mtgox for buying btc right now  Wink

Good question.
Seriously, who is dumb enough to pay $200 more (Bitstamp: 760 vs mtgox: 963 atm) for one bitcoin?
2414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: selling bitcoin on: January 27, 2014, 10:11:25 PM
yeah this is the price I watch - http://markets.blockchain.info/markets/mtgox/GBP

How do I sell on this marketplace? I thought I needed a certain amount of posts?

That's the mt gox rate and pretty much nobody uses that since they're ridiculously higher than other exchanges.

Forget about the mtgox's price. Or better, forget about mtgox completely.
2415  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my first 2 attempts to buy bitcoin on: January 27, 2014, 10:04:02 PM
You may want to take a look at localbitcons.
You may be able to find some cash trade there, depending on your location.
2416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Long before i make a profit from the money I spent already? on: January 27, 2014, 10:00:28 PM

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?!

Same as my other post above. About three. lol

lol.
Seems like a perfect answer to all those dumb questions.
2417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to price when block rewards "half"? on: January 27, 2014, 09:58:31 PM
What happens to price when block rewards "half"?  From a trending perspective is there a noticeable change in the coin price when the block reward is cut in half? I'm sure there is a percentage of miners that will stop mining because the profitability drops. I was just curious if there is an impact to the coin price.

Thanks!

--C

1. Less people become interested in mining due to lack of reward

2. Value of existing coin increases

3. More people become interested in mining due increased value

Chain reaction ....Satoshi was a genius.

The mining difficulty adjusts itself every 2016 blocks for the same reason.
2418  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No "reply" button in threads? I can't reply...why is this? on: January 27, 2014, 09:51:34 PM
When OP made this thread, there were some newbie restriction in place.
So, he needed to make a post and wait 4 hours before being able to reply in other places.

But NOW, all the newbie restrictions are gone.
You can go straight to the board or thread you want to reply. What you need is just to wait 6 minutes between each posts; and actions like logging in and searching will reset the timer.
2419  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Forum For All Crypto on: January 27, 2014, 09:46:16 PM
Nice!  Wink But this forum is enough for me.

OP should make his thread in the alternate cryptocurrencies board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0), and will hopefully get thousands of signups. Smiley
2420  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam alert technobit.eu on: January 27, 2014, 09:43:47 PM
Might as well jump in here too.

Marto, through a botched Group Buy scammed me out of 1.43BTC

If you look at the details in his trust you will see many people have lost money to this guy.

In my case, he ran a group buy then 6 months later, decided to cancel it due to avalon not delivering,
and instead of PMing everyone in the group buy he leaves a message in a 6 month old thread telling everyone if they don't send him a message to him by a certain time and date with a special signature that you were out of luck.

In that very same thread month or more earlier I asked for a refund and he did not provide it.

Then when I finally saw his little message he said I was too late and all he was willing to do was ship me chips, which he claimed to do in October of 2013. You know what Avalon Gen 1 chips were worth in Oct 2013? NOTHING!

But even then he said he shipped them, they never arrived and he tried to get ANOTHER 0.10 BTC from me to pay for special shipping.

be an informed buyer, read the threads where he does business you have about a 90% chance, in my opinion of getting screwed in some way, late shipment (usually 3 months), No shipment,  lost shipment.

This is someone you NEVER want to do business with. EVER.

From your painful experience, it seems OP will never ever get the refund....
