By luck? Then you better use that luck to find the private key of a bank or of a government or whatelse on this planet, since tons of people use sha-256  Cheesy
2422  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I safe on a Mac? + some beginner questions on: November 05, 2012, 02:59:02 PM
1) Mac's are very safe from virius so don't worry but encrypt your wallet, and make sure you back it up.
False

Mac are not that safe to hold a good amount of bitcoins.

How is mac not safe to hold a good amount of bitcoins? I never had an issue. And it is alot better than windows.
This too is false.

Mac is like Windows, there are viruses for both. With the difference that windows user protect their computer from virus with antivirus and other things while mac user go full ahead with "ahah there are no virus for mac"...

Quote
To be honest most Viruses circle around Java and if you go to a shady web sits and run java stuff. The last pure mac OSX virus was hosted in a torrent of pirated copy of iwork so yea again if you do shady things you get a virus. So I don't get how you have a mac and your saying they are unsecured?
Exactly the same thing apply for Windows. On windows you only get viruses if you do shady things/shady java websites and so on. It's not like you start a windows computer and after five minutes it automatically get infected

2426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question from a noob on: November 04, 2012, 06:27:07 PM
You need to check GPU temperature, not cpu one  Smiley
2427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reach out for the white spots! on: November 04, 2012, 06:10:07 PM
why would i care if people who have nothing i want and dont speak any language i speak use bitcoin or not? if iran suddenly vanished i probably wouldnt even notice.
iran is the worlds largest producer of the spice safron, international safron prices are way higher then in iran because they cant export it easily.   if you could flip iranian safron you'd be a millionaire.
Who control the spice, control the universe!

About using your laptop as a miner, it's possible but please pay attention to the temperature. Laptop usually overheat if used to mine...
2429  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Wurm Online and CoinLab, making ingame money via mining on: November 04, 2012, 05:50:45 PM
Yes a GPU can do tons of things and i partecipate in several BOINC projects where my graphic card is used. But if they start paying me for crunching their work... then why can't they simply use that money in a MUCH MORE efficient way, like paying for a supercomputer or whatelse?

@aseras: no, it's not p2pool.

Wait for a month and ASIC will be released. Then GPU mining will become useless
2432  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Wurm Online and CoinLab, making ingame money via mining on: November 04, 2012, 01:29:47 PM
I took a look at that thread but i'm unsure how they intend to keep gpu profitables. GPU mining will die once ASICs are delivered, that's a fact. They speak about scientific computation done via GPU and i know a lot of BOINC projects using gpu for their computing but they are all free project. If they have enough money to pay us then they can very well just use a supercomputer or buy the cards themselves or whatelse.

several say cpu mining isn't possible yet i have a celeron pullin 1.5 m/hash debunking that statement.
No one ever said this! People says that cpu mining is epic useless and a waste of electricity, wich is true.

anything better then 1.5 m/hash is better then nothing.
Yes but, a 9 years ago graphic card?? It's really old! No, it doesn't mine and even if it did, it would be epic waste of electricity, like cpu mining.

2435  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB ATI 9250 on: November 03, 2012, 06:12:18 PM
It's a 2003 graphic card... more than 9 years ago!

Sell them and buy ASICs. :p.

Don't Preorder ASIC's until you see someone using it.
This.
2437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best miner software to start with? (8800GT) on: November 03, 2012, 05:33:05 PM
I see, either way though my PC is up 24/7 so I wouldn't really be wasting any electricity I don't normally waste Smiley

I'll give Guiminer a try then, thanks Smiley
An idle computer consume much much much less than a fully used system (and bitcoin mining will make your card to be fully used)
2438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best miner software to start with? (8800GT) on: November 03, 2012, 05:10:23 PM
Mining with a nvidia card is a bad idea, it's mining performance are pretty bad.

Anyway, give Guiminer a try

2440  Economy / Service Discussion / Wurm Online and CoinLab, making ingame money via mining on: November 03, 2012, 04:55:16 PM
I remember some months ago reading about CoinLab and about their idea of involving games and gamers to use their gpu to make ingame money. But i never read that they really did this!

http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/61990-coinlab-faq-how-to-earn-silver-coins-with-your-graphics-card/

http://pool.coinlab.com/partners/wurm

It is from June. They did it  Cheesy

Yes, probably mining bitcoins for ourself and then selling them for $/€ or directly ingame money is much better, but still, it's not a bad idea.

Too bad in a month it will die, ASICs are coming  Cheesy
