2441  Other / Meta / Re: Can MasterCoin threads please be moved to the alt coins section? on: November 27, 2013, 11:01:57 PM
I think the real question is how do we define an altcoin...

is an altcoin something that has a different value then bitcoin?
is an altcoin something that has a different blockchain?

I think once that is sorted then you can easily argue mastercoin as an altcoin or not.

My opinion, is that mastercoin is an altcoin, it has a different value which is not gotten directly from bitcoin, so it is a different coin all together. I too don't know much about it.

I'd define an Alt Coin as something on a different block chain. In the Alt Coin section, there is a Sticky by Gavin from 2011 saying, "Alternate Block Chains: Be Safe!" I'm pretty sure that is about the time that Alt Coins became a thing, so I feel that anything that is on its own chain is an alt coin.

However, I could also reasonably say, that anything with its own name, is a different coin as well. Mastercoin is not Bitcoin, if it was just an addon to the Bitcoin protocol, it wouldn't be called Mastercoin, it would be called a patch, or a Bitcoin update, or something of the sort.
2442  Other / Off-topic / Re: Any uhhh... water softener guys? on: November 27, 2013, 10:11:38 PM
If you are just worried about the drinking water, it may be worth your while to get an RODI machine. I've got an 8 stage one that I picked up for like $200, and it makes the most pure water that you will ever taste. However, make sure you eat a balanced diet as well, because completely pure water will leech minerals from your body.

Thanks Salty!
Do threads expire after a certain time period?

nope
2444  Other / Meta / Re: Would users be okay with sex work / sex worker groups and threads here? on: November 27, 2013, 03:50:41 PM
You should be ok just putting NSFW in your title, and maybe putting a brief disclaimer or something like that, "If you are not the age of majority of your country, please do not view this thread" or something like that.

I doubt anyone here would be too upset if you didn't, however if you just want to make sure you are doing things officially I guess its not a bad idea.

Stare into the face of evil:

BTW, another connection between RealSolid and the name Ken:

Pretty sure thats not him. He actually had a lot of public info on the old SolidCoin forum, including his picture as his profile pic. I don't know why, but pretty sure the face in the video isn't what I remember. He was thin and kind of scruffy iirc.

You sir, have peaked my interest. I'm not really looking for a student model though  Undecided

You wouldn't happen to have any other Sax's laying around would you?
2448  Economy / Goods / Re: 3x 1BTC Casascius Coins for sale (brass, silver, gold) on: November 27, 2013, 06:18:59 AM
yeah, but he dropped the price on them substantially. That being said, 4 BTC is still a pretty nice deal.

Straight from Casascius the Silver with gold B ones are 1.25, Plain silver are probably around that, but no longer sold, the brass ones are sold in rolls of 50, but probably worth 1.1-1.2 anyway, and then .06 Shipping.

So as long as the Silver ones (without gold B) are valued at 1.5 BTC or more, 4 BTC is a fair price. However them being out of stock, I dunno what they are going for.

2453  Economy / Economics / Re: What percentage of your investment holdings should be in bitcoin? on: November 26, 2013, 06:36:47 PM
Hehe, I'm about 70% BTC, 25% Precious Metals, and 5% USD.

I've never heard of fine art as in investment? Where do I get some arts? On a second thought, I'll probably just invest in DVDs.
2454  Other / Archival / Re: Can anyone donate me 50 - 60 Bitcoins? on: November 26, 2013, 06:35:36 PM

People like you should not be here.

Who knows if he meant 0.0060? You dont know, he might be a newbie and does not know....

Nope, we have already established its 50-60 BTC (we have been talking $50,000)

Like I said, my offer stands, I need about another $250,000 to finish college, if someone wants to donate me 250-300 BTC, I'll even let you spread it out between 1000 people, so if each person could send me 0.25-0.30 BTC, that would be great, please ignore the fact that thats like $200-$250 per person. Oh also, I will need some extra money for exchange fees, so if you could include an additional 2% onto your donations, that would be great.

2460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MCXNow Shutting down (Temporary) on: November 26, 2013, 02:52:52 AM
Unfortunately, those who bought a piece of a now defunct exchange have zero recourse. You can't withdraw that. RS made off with thousands of BTC.

Perhaps as a moderator you're not supposed to voice an opinion, but I know for a fact that you've been around long enough to witness all of RS's antics.

No, I'm free to voice my opinions, I just choose not to do so when I'm not certain or my opinion wont help anyone either way. I was a very early Solidcoin adopter, and spent more than a bit of time around RealSolid. I was never a fan of his attitude, but I will give it to him that hes a talented developer. Really, there is no such thing as trustworthiness. Just the pros and cons of which way you decide to go. If RealSolid thinks he can make millions more by operating the site, why would he scam? If hes done with the project, he might scam. I just don't know, so I have no reason to say either way.

I will say however that if you use MCXNow, get your coins out as per request of the site operator.
