2461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think the alt-coin crash is hurting bitcoin? on: March 25, 2014, 11:47:46 AM
Windows is the primary OS because it is better for the majority of people. This does not even bear discussion. That's also why it is ridiculous that so many here promote linux, most people do not and will never use it.

'Better' is a very illusive term.
I can say DOGE is better than Bitcoin for the majority of people, because people feel better when they use it, because: a) they get more of DOGEs for the same dollar (they don't care about divisility, they care about round numbers), b) there is no shady business associated with DOGE (no Silk Road past).
2462  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think the alt-coin crash is hurting bitcoin? on: March 25, 2014, 11:42:59 AM
Also, who in their right mind really thinks that a currency named DOGE is going to take over the world?

It's not about taking over the world, it's about getting 25% of all crypto currency transactions of the world, that'd be good enough for Doge Grin

Also, who in their right mind would have really thunk that Windows would become so popular as to take 90% of all PC market being so buggy, especially the earlier versions (95, 98)? It's all about marketing these days, you naive dude. First you create demand for a product, then the product sells, not vice versa. From this perspective whichever coin does more efficient marketing efforts, wins. Not necessarily technically best. Although all bitcoin clones are about equal as far as technical details go. And if we had to choose a technically superior alt, it'd undoubtedly be NXT, but it lacks in marketing at this point.

yeah, it's called multidoge  Grin
2464  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the price of Bitcoin on 3/30/14 on: March 24, 2014, 05:21:44 PM
501-550 range, ok, let's make it $525.
2465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's to stop this from happening? on: March 24, 2014, 03:04:20 PM
100% PoS coins, like NXT, don't require (more and more) expensive hardware, and that makes it impossible to regulate the mining aspect of it. Merchant/fiat gateway regulation of course remains possible. In short diversification is the name of the crypto currency game.
2466  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's next for Bitcoin? $100 or $1000 on: March 24, 2014, 02:58:41 PM
$1000, but not in the next 3 months, a bit later this year, around September.
2467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's to stop this from happening? on: March 24, 2014, 11:24:32 AM
There is a guarantee it will happen. That's why you should diversify into altcoins and generally be dynamic about your investments. No investment is 100% secure.
2468  Economy / Economics / Re: Economist Caution: Prepare For 'Massive Wealth Destruction' on: March 24, 2014, 09:14:08 AM
If fiat paper money were to go away tomorrow then how would you determine the value of a Bitcoin?

Fiat is just the common denominator. If fiat is gone, something else will be the common denominator, don't worry. Same would be true for PMs, how would you determine their value without fiat? How much would you pay for a loaf of bread in silver? I'll give you a hint. First you'd use the last available price of silver in fiat and last available price of loaf of bread in fiat, and calculate their ratio, at later stages the market would decide that ratio according to supply and demand of both items without looking at the fiat-world last available price.

But rest assured, these are all fantasies as fiat is not going to go away any time soon or ever. They will inflate it, then hyperinflate, then just chop off a few zeros from denominations, call it the new dollar, euro, yen, etc. and the new cycle begins. That's the history of hundred+ recorded episodes of fiat cycles when fiat died and was reborn, no reason to believe it will be different this time, doesn't matter it's at the global scale this time.
2469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this the death of altcoins? on: March 24, 2014, 07:59:51 AM
good one why don't you mention how your instamined quarkcoin is better then the rest?

Huh? I don't have quark. I used to buy some, but replaced it with Securecoin back in December, exactly for the reason that Securecoin is not quickmined. But both aren't worth a lot these days, haha.
2470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this the death of altcoins? on: March 23, 2014, 09:52:19 PM
Some of the altcoins are dying, that's for sure, but not all of them. Now is perfect time to buy those that will survive.

hm I don't know about you suggestion. How about buying coins that will not survive?

Worldcoin and Earthcoin were big disappointments. I lost a lot. Same (but not in that extent) with nearly every other altcoin (except of PPC but this is going down too). But new ones are coming. I think Darkcoin or Blackcoin have a good chance to increase value against Bitcoin in one year. Peercoin and maybe Litecoin have a good perspective, too. 7

And sure, there will come out some new innovativve coins...

btw: Just make an hash algorithm ASIC proof is absolutely no technical advantage (I mean Jane Scrypt, N-factor and so on. POS only can work)

Buying coins that will not survive doesn't sound like a good idea to me, why would anyone do that? Let's buy at least those that will make it to the end of 2014 without losing half of their value Smiley

Worldcoin - I dropped it when its wallet couldn't sync properly for some time, I figured if they couldn't fix their wallet, then the coin has no future. I heard later they fixed it, but I was probably right about the future.
Never downloaded Earthcoin, it wasn't different enough from others or something.

Darkcoin and Blackcoin aren't likely to become mainstream for obvious reasons, starting with their names, without mainstream they aren't likely to appreciate much. Mainstream users would be plain scared to use them, and no legal merchants would accept them.

Peercoin - well, it's interesting, as it incorporates PoS approach, but why not choose NXT instead, it's already at the point where Peercoin will be when all PPCs will have been mined, so why waste electricity, only to get where NXT aready is.

Litecoin was cool while it was the only one, but I don't see that it appeals to public ('silver to bitcoin's gold' is in fact BS, because in real world silver has unique properties that no other metal has and that makes it valued, but in cryptos, any coin can have the same properties as Litecoin, so that only unsophisticated ones can believe in that slogan), mainstream seems to like Dogecoin much more, just look at how much press it received in very short time, and comedy sells well, so I bet on Dogecoin.

N-factor - not so attractive in my opinion, because by the time when the first RAM doubling kicks in (2016) the crypto currencies world will have changed so much, especially PoW coins, that it'll be irrelevant.
2471  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-03-23] Goxxed again: The new mystery of MTGOX bankruptcy on: March 23, 2014, 01:26:34 PM
Please, let's just pretend that Mt.Gox never existed. This constant mention of Mt.Gox keeps hurting bitcoin price. Mt.Gox died, and that's for the better of bitcoin, let's not talk about it again, ever. Thank you.
2472  Economy / Economics / Re: Economist Caution: Prepare For 'Massive Wealth Destruction' on: March 23, 2014, 09:10:20 AM
Sure. If you are talking years there might be a 1% chance for that scenario, but we should be talking month or even a few weeks!

I don't think so. If you observed what some non-mainstream economists were saying over the past few years, they all had been saying since 2008 (some even earlier) - it's all over in the next few weeks, months at most, but somehow it's all been kicked down the road for a few years now, which makes me think they can kick it down the road another few years. At some point it'll be over, but not as fast as initially predicted.
2473  Economy / Economics / Re: Economist Caution: Prepare For 'Massive Wealth Destruction' on: March 23, 2014, 08:51:00 AM
Come on... I hear so many people saying a huge crisis would push BTC/USD to new highs, but I need to completely disagree. NOBODY will buy Bitcoin during a crisis. NOBODY! Why? Simply because you won't be able to buy crap with it.

It's very sad, but I do agree that a major economic collapse within the next 1-3 month is faaaaaar more than just likely.

And when it goes down it doesn't matter where you live, the US and EU will drag us ALL to hell...

Good luck and stay safe

You're only partly correct. The thing is, the huge crisis doesn't happen instantaneously. It takes time to evolve - it takes years. Actually it's been going for a few years now, and look at what happened to Bitcoin. The crisis will continue on the same path, although maybe at an accelerating rate. In the next few years it develops (look to 2020), more and more businesses will be accepting crypto currencies and other forms of private money and even barter to replace the fiat losing value, that's why down the road you'll be able to buy more everyday items with non-fiat money. Fiat will be used mainly to pay taxes and other payments to government. Private businesses will be looking to keep only as much fiat as they need to pay those mandatory payments, but to save the rest in something that doesn't lose value.
2474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NxtCoin - Forgotten pass phrase on: March 22, 2014, 02:21:27 PM
is the phrase stored somewhere where I can see it and maybe work out an element of the unencrypted phrase?

No it's not stored in most NXT clients. The official browser based NXT client is a brain wallet client, it doesn't have a wallet file.

However, if you want a client with a wallet, just like Bitcoin, you can use the Offspring client, see the first post in the NXT thread to find the link. The Offspring client is designed to be just like bitcoin's client, to have a wallet file, that you can back up.
2475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT overtakes doge coin on: March 22, 2014, 02:12:43 PM
XbladeX,

are you dumb or stupid or both?

NXT devs are working now to introduce sending fractional amounts into code and lower fee to 0.1 for starters and in the future keep it equal to or lower than bitcoin fee. I said that in one of the threads to you, but you keep repeating bullshit. Are you on agenda?
2476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas M. Antonopoulos speaks about Dogecoin. Very interesting. on: March 22, 2014, 02:10:44 PM

I've already written the BTC off mentally anyway Tongue

Care to share why so? Smiley I do have my doubts about it too, but then, if you think of it, no investment is perfect, all of them have weak points which bring some doubts. Would like to hear yours on bitcoin.
2479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Whats the Most UnderValued Coin And Why, Please Explain I have 2 btc to invest! on: March 22, 2014, 08:33:24 AM
Myriadcoin.

It's extremely undervalued.

It's technically superior to other altcoins and even bitcoin due to its 5 independent algos, which make it more resistant to 51% attack and selfish mining. Potentially bound to have the largest network, as it allows everyone to participate. Devs seem to know what they are doing too. Besides, it's been bottoming out recently, and as more people start understanding its potential, it may have a lot of upside.

But why do you want to invest in just 1 coin? Diversify is the name of the game.
