2481  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: December 07, 2014, 07:47:12 PM

IF the US voters assembled they could vote to have very little to no taxes, of course that would result in the disappearance of all services we have, which would lead to some chaos pretty quickly.

That is false.

The government has more than enough surpluses to eliminate taxation; this was mentioned and proven earlier in the thread.

Yeah, and then the government spends all that surplus and all services disappear. Come on, man, think further than two months down the road.

You must not realize that in the US currently the government only has until Dec. 12th of this year (that's like 5 days from today) of money left to cover the expenses of the services. After the 12th Congress has to authorize the access to more funds. And that surplus you mention is actually owed...it would be eliminated by the National debt.
2482  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: December 07, 2014, 07:43:06 PM
Good, you have bought into the illusion that our votes count, and not those who count the votes.

If voting could change anything for the better of everyone, it would be a capital offense.

You're cynical, it's ok, it's understandable. Government, more specifically politicians, give us a lot to be jaded about.

But, you're wrong (I say this with respect).

The system is driven by the vote. If we organized the ballot measure (which isn't hard) and the people voted for it the government would be legally required to enforce it.

How do you think the recreational use of marijuana becomes LEGAL in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Washington D.C.?

It's not a capital offense, it's the People's system. It's beautiful. It only has one flaw, people have to organize and vote for it.
2483  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the USA pay their debts, if ever? on: December 07, 2014, 07:35:15 PM
The USA will pay their debts as soon as the People vote the government to do so.

It's as simple (and as difficult) as that.
2484  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the USA pay their debts, if ever? on: December 07, 2014, 07:23:22 PM
one way this could end is if states start to secede from the union, leaving the others with the bill, similar to what Catalonia is trying to do now in Spain.
The states do not actually have the right to leave the union as a war was fought over this right ~200 years ago and the states that wanted to leave lost.

Also no state in it's right mind wold want to leave the union as the federal government gives massive amounts of subsidies and funding for every single state for things like education and roads and medicare/medicaid

the federal government has no money but what it steals from the population.
thats why its not mathematically possible for all the states to be subsidized by the federal government.
what happens in reality is that the rich states are paying for the poor.
its in their best interest to leave the union and stop subsdizing the deadbeat states.
a bonus point is that they get to escape paying the impossible debt the federal government has racked up.

It's hard to call it stealing in a democracy. The US citizens have the power of the vote and if they wanted to reduce or eliminate the debt or taxes they could vote to do so. Unfortunately, there's not organized effort to pool that voice, err vote, and make that desire a reality.

The government doesn't rule the people of a democracy, they only operate within the freedom and the ability granted to them by the People.
2485  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the USA pay their debts, if ever? on: December 07, 2014, 07:19:53 PM
There's no real incentive to pay it off as long as the US can keep addressing, servicing the interest AND they can control the money supply.

What would be really cool though is if a US President centered his platform around reducing the debt, and only that. If he/she spent the 4 year term not spending more money, not introducing new programs, not ignoring all the waste. That would be really historic, they'd be remembered in the history books for such a great accomplishment. Unfortunately human nature has us wired differently. Every president needs to "make their mark in history" and as such tries to introduce some new legislation or plan, even when it's not needed.

Who said IRS wants Bitcoin? What's your source?
2487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Joe Rogan Experience #581 - Andreas Antonopoulos on: December 07, 2014, 08:23:51 AM
So what was the discussion about? What did Andreas say about Bitcoin? How did Rogan respond?

Thanks in advance for the summary.
2488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is stealing bitcoins illegal? on: December 07, 2014, 08:22:35 AM
Since you've made this post there's not pre-meditation, sounds like you're planning to do this, which would also likely make it illegal and increase the penalty.

What country do you live and what are you trying to sell?
2489  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: December 05, 2014, 08:42:59 AM
In the US people agree to pay taxes by voting for it, people WANT the taxes - the taxes pay for common services that the public and large wants to be provided.

You make it sound like the people don't have a choice, in the US they do. IF the US voters assembled they could vote to have very little to no taxes, of course that would result in the disappearance of all services we have, which would lead to some chaos pretty quickly.
2490  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: December 05, 2014, 08:40:34 AM
the only reason this works is because the citizens are unorganized and unarmed.
if people gather in groups of tens of people to protect each other against the government there is no way they could throw anyone in jail.

I believe "groups of tens of people" could quite easily be taken over by the government.
2491  Economy / Economics / Re: How Bitcoin can solve financial problems in Africa on: December 05, 2014, 08:38:54 AM

2nd - problem of 3rd world is not just the technology, much bigger problem is culture. Even here is no culture of hard work. It is all about party or family, then everyone is in debt immediately. Even the laziest hipster from US or Europe works harder. I suspect Africa is the same.

Wow! This statement is grossly stereotypical at a minimum and racists at a maximum.

Any facts or evidence to support your claim that people in Africa have "no culture of hard work"?
2492  Economy / Economics / Re: How Bitcoin can solve financial problems in Africa on: December 05, 2014, 08:36:17 AM
To the OP, what does the article say?

Lack of access to computers and the internet would be a significant barrier to BTC use in many parts of Africa.
2493  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: December 05, 2014, 08:11:31 AM
Why do we have to read some article to respond to this thread? Can't you summarize the article, state your thoughts on it and just provide the link as a source...how many ppl actually have interest in going to another site to read an article just to comment here?
2494  Economy / Economics / Re: How much did your salary increase over the past 5 years? on: December 05, 2014, 08:05:10 AM
Since 2004 it's gone up over 150%. I'm now making over 250% of what I was in 2004. Same industry, different role. 2009 was a no-raise year for us due to the recession.
2495  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Inequality on: December 05, 2014, 08:01:54 AM
This issues is talked about a lot but not often side by side with working to find better opportunity. It's a law of nature that there won't be enough of the best "meat" for everyone to catch and eat. Competition is natural and I feel like this requirement in nature is ignored in this conversation. Opportunity exists for everyone to increase their income, complaining only defers action.
2496  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin were backed by something. on: December 03, 2014, 07:30:27 AM
Right now Bitcoin is kind of backed by the fiat currency (dollars, etc) we all use to purchase it. At a minimum that's what influences the price, which influences how much goods and services are per BTC.

The reason the Dollar was backed by gold (long ago) is because gold was something tangible (which means you can hold it, it's real), it's finite (there's only so much that exists or has been mined out of the ground), and it's valuable (which means people collectively place a value on it.)

It would be cool if Bitcoin were seen as this stand alone thing because it has a finite volume (only so many exist or will exist once all are mined) and people collectively believe it's valuable. The tangible part is harder to prove or agree on since you can't hold it in your hand but our definition of tangible may need to change in the internet age.

Does Bitcoin need to be backed by anything?

2498  Economy / Economics / Re: Making your investment grow in a bitcoin economy on: December 01, 2014, 08:34:32 AM
Hi,

I saw this article http://nakamotoinstitute.org/mempool/the-correct-strategy-of-bitcoin-entrepreneurship/ . So I was thinking what is the correct way for me invest my money in a bitcoin economy so that it grows exponentially.

So suppose I have 10,000$ , so what are my options:

1. Buy bitcoins worth 10, 000$ and wait for bitcoin to explode , this seems like a safe bet and is most likely to happen

Any other ways I can do better? (I am not talking abt gambling btc Cheesy) !

interesting question, what makes you think that an explosion in prices is "most likely to happen?"
2499  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best ways to invest into Bitcoin on: December 01, 2014, 04:42:25 AM
Are you interested in options investing? (I use the word investing loosely in that sentence.) Options are easier to get into and easier to get payoff from then many if not all of the share mining or cloud mining investment choices.

I'm a new fan of CoiNut.com (see my signature).

They have a great user interface, transactions are quick, and response from them on this forum is VERY quick.

I don't think anyone has mentioned ActionCrypto yet, but the downside with them is that they're not available in the US (or from a US computer), so if you live in the States they aren't really an option for you.

CoiNut offers binary options and I suspect are trying to figure out to make vanilla options possible.

Good luck to you.

ummmm thanks  Wink

Irfan, why are you hassling Wangxinxi? You're currently advertising for a competing Bitcoin options company in your personal message so your opinion on whether and how Coinut is using escrow for their signature campaign payments is irrelevant.

The people that actually join Wangxinxi's campaign can handle getting the information they need to assess the campaign's ability to fund its obligations. And Wang and the escrow agent have been very open with communication.

Your continued comments are just noise...I hope Bit-X.com isn't paying you for your "ummmm thanks" comment, it's worthy of getting you banned from a signature campaign to begin with!
