2501  Economy / Securities / Re: [Mpex.co] The Scientology of Bitcoin Finance? on: March 06, 2014, 08:42:19 PM
So did mpex just remove the sole source of revenue other than registration fees?

For a second I thought this scam might last a few more months.

There is still the trading fee.

Ah, so this million btc valued company will now be earning a staggering few hundred satoshis a year(assuming there is still anyone using it).

So with options removed is mpex now a full blown ponzi?

I guess it is still debatable while the futures market exists even though nobody uses it. I doubt it will be removed only because then mpex would literally fit the textbook definition of a ponzi scheme instead of hiding behind a disguise.

2503  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: March 06, 2014, 08:07:51 AM
So.... was iCEBREAKER banned or did he really just stop logging in after being called out as a Hashfast Shill?

Or did he just transition to HashFast_CL? Timing seems perfect.

Just a conspiracy theory though.
2504  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BFL Monarch More Delays on: March 06, 2014, 08:04:13 AM
I love it how the monarch will (according to josh) consume literally no extra power beyond the chip level.

I would be willing to bet they don't even beat 1w/gh at the wall.
2505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $1.99/GH/s, miners from $2.97/GH/s on: March 06, 2014, 07:34:31 AM
Seriously oleole what are you so butthurt about?

Is there something bothering you that you'd like to talk about?

I hadn't heard from you for a while, Jimmothy, so I thought I'd give you an in.  So what's the latest pro-BA spin? You seem to be training your new fanboi friends well, they're chiming in on cue with you, perhaps they can give us a heads up on the refund situation?

Tell me, are you enjoying the product delays and the sheer lack of professionalism?

How about the custom heat sink, does that make you glow with satisfaction?  I heard that the heat sinks get so hot that you fry a monkey's head on them... that's another bonus that you only get with vapourware ASICS, you can make-believe anything about the product, fake a few renders and the fanbois obfuscate things further.

Hit me up when you get your delivery, I'll be the first to congratulate you on your patience.

 Smiley

There is no reason to be upset with BA since the mention of delays. We have been given clear weekly updates and nobody seems to be irate besides you and PG.

What does modifying a heatsink per verisilicons request have anything to do with the legitimacy of their company? BA could sneeze and you would make a big deal about it.

And refunds are being processed as many have already received one.

Has anyone done ROI calcs on chip selling at current price versus outright mining?

Yes, that person would be friedcat.
2508  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: March 06, 2014, 03:20:26 AM
Would anyone like to provide a guesstimate of AM's percentage of total market hashrate with gen3 chips @ 0.5w/ghs over the next 12 months?  thanks.

Ok modify the above query to: what percentage of total bitcoin hashrate will be using AM's chips within 12 months?

25-75%

Assuming chips meet estimated specs. Competition will not be able to compete with the price and efficiency.

As of now I think knc will be the biggest competitor. Bitfury and bitmain next gen are looking a bit lacking.
2509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: up to 800GH/s on: March 06, 2014, 02:35:41 AM
HF chips are actually four dies.  I don't know about CoinTerra but the comparison is unfair and irrelevant given the context.

HashFast's chip consists of multiple dies on a singe substrate and performs at 750GH/s.

Cointerra's chip consists of multiple dies on a singe substrate and perform at much less than 750GH/s.

KnC's chip consists of multiple dies on a singe substrate and performs at much, much less than 750GH/s.

The comparison of hardware is trivial, however the contrast in performance is striking!   Shocked

I'll just leave this here: https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-78 Cheesy

No idea of the speed, but i have a feeling that it will crush your chip HashFast. What will you say then?

Congratulations to KnC for their successful tape-out!

Let's not compare a non-existent 20nm chip to HashFast's current 28nm chip, which is by far the fastest Bitcoin mining ASIC ever created.

Let's not compare a company that actually ships hardware and doesn't breach contract multiple times to hashfast.

Join Us in Texas! Live Demo of The World’s first 2 TH/s miner!
By Tim Wong In Development, Evo, Golden Nonce ASIC, News, Photography, Rig Assembly
Many years ago,  in 1999,  our CEO, Eduardo deCastro graduated with his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin….  so Austin seemed like the perfect venue for the first public demonstration of our Sierra Evo, the world’s first 2TH/s Bitcoin miner.
Join us March 5th & 6th at the Texas Bitcoin Conference! We will be mining live on the show floor with a working Sierra Evo running at over 2 TH/s!!!
Oh, by the way, our  Sierra Evo only needs  (3) of our 28nm ASICs to cross the 2 TH/s barrier!
Hook ‘em horns!

Btw, look at the scale of this image:

Please tell me that is not a real image.. has to be a joke.
2511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why scrypt asics are all dual mine thus far? on: March 06, 2014, 12:39:45 AM
I'm no genius but I'm pretty sure that in the scrypt algorithm (take a look in the scrypt mining kernel), SHA-256 is used in part of the process but the main proof-of-work calculations are separate. Therefore since the chips need SHA-256 logic, Gridseed just decided to engineer a chip that would also mine SHA-256.

Also see here:

The scrypt hash function uses SHA256 as a subroutine, but also depends on fast access to large amounts of memory rather than depending just on fast arithmetic operations, so it is more difficult to run many instances of scrypt in parallel by using the ALUs of a modern graphics card.

I don't think the sha-256 asic will provide any significant benefit to scrypt mining. From what I've gathered, sha256 is only a very small portion of scrypt hashing.

I am hoping gridseed releases a dedicated scrypt miner soon. If they can reach $0.5/kh I would bite.

Guys can anyone around here post an acurate enough estimation of the CURRENT hashrate?

Hi Hashfast_CL,

I am interested in buying your new product, but the "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" under your username worries me. Please explain why you have that label. Thanks.

2515  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Finally, a correct (endgame) difficulty calculator on: March 05, 2014, 01:39:14 AM
BTW, googling for electricity prices, wikipedia shows rates in russia can be as low as 2.4 cents per KWH. That gives this result:

In kuwait its only 1 cent, that would allow the network to reach 1 exahash (1000 PH) if you can solve the cooling problem Smiley
Free electricity would bottom out around 1.7 EH.

Don't forget about chip improvements. AM supposedly will release a 0.2w/gh 40nm chip so I would assume 0.1w/gh is possible with some fine tuning of a 20/28nm chip.

Also with immersion-cooling you can have very high densities and combined with cheap electricity+energy arbitrage means very low running costs.

I would guess we hit the point where we are finally limited by electricity costs at 5000ph. This also assumes the btc exchange rate stays constant.
2516  Economy / Securities / Re: [Cryptostock][Havelock]Mining mini enterprise pre-IPO on: March 05, 2014, 01:10:01 AM
We are new mini-enterprise intended to mine Scrypt and SHA-256 coins simultaneously. To achieve this task we have Scrypt rigs and ASIC equipment. We plan to list our project on Cryptostock or Havelock. In order to decide what shall be our stock price, quantity and place it will be listed, we need polling results. Poll results will likely affect our planning on future purchases of additional equipment. Please take it seriously. We assume that large portion of polling might contain arbitrary information, but based on results we will have better understanding of this market and public opinion. Our mining rigs and ASICs are already running and mine at full overclock and we plan to purchase additional equipment in the months to come, but right now cannot plan our expansion until financial information is available.
Thank you everyone for your input in this poll!

First off being a new user + ipo never mix well.

Second, this poll is useless. We need to know more about your mining operation(how many asics/datacenter/electricity costs). And we need to know how many shares you plan to issue.

As of now I would consider investing 1 satoshi and nothing more.
2517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: up to 800GH/s on: March 05, 2014, 12:37:12 AM
HashFast: we are all very happy and excited for you that your new boards get 750GH.

No we aren't. These liquid nitrogen cooled chips are large but inefficient. 2w/gh means bitfury is twice as efficient. Die size means nothing if your chips are garbage.

I would rather have 1000 2.6gh bitfury chips than a single giant 2000 gh/s hashslow chip that requires a nuclear powerplant to power it.
2518  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: March 05, 2014, 12:24:44 AM
Apparently Gmaxwell is a bitcoin core programmer?

Hmm, now he can officially say that HashFast has screwed the heart and soul of Bitcoin. (as one of their customers!)

HashFast sent gmaxwell a refund check in early January; it was returned.

gmaxwell, if you want another refund check, please let me know.

How about you just send gmaxwell his original payment back (whatever currency it was in) and stop playing games.

Not only gmaxwell but all of your current customers need to be dealt with before accepting new batches of orders. I am honestly surprised they would leave someone with such an influential voice hanging.

Seriously it is embarrassing that you have yet to address anyone with MPP/upgrades/disfunctional units/refund requests. I mean delays are one thing but going full BFL mode is another.

Lesson learned. If you don't people calling your company a scam, you probably shouldn't be scamming people.
2519  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Whats a good Bitcoin Mining profit calculator? on: March 05, 2014, 12:13:38 AM
The Genesis Block's calculator does allow you to factor in changes in $/BTC conversion per month in case you sell your mined BTC immediately. Look for Conversion Increase / Month (%) under Conversion and Electricity

This calculator is inaccurate because difficulty changes every 2 weeks not every month.

bitcoinwisdom is the best imo. Also bitreturn.com is nice but it uses monthly % instead of biweekly.

@^  ... 1 block in 5days ... sure, "its happening" "no chance for variance" Roll Eyes

we don't even know if tape out was successful, keep real and wait for update

Don't worry gen3 chips have not been rolled out yet. We will know once AM is averaging 5+ blocks a day.
