2501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pro miners pls give an answer on this on: August 26, 2022, 12:51:39 PM
I am asking this on behalf of a friend, is 580 8gb still worth buying in 2022 for long term crypto mining? The rx580s are the cheapest around him like 150-180$ per card, what do you think pro miners?.. He said he has cheap electricity bill.
580 8gb have been mining for 3-4 years. In my country, there are a lot of offers for 150-160 dollars.
To buy these video cards, you need to carefully check this. If you want to buy them, then do it after the end of ethereum mining, when there will be much more offers and prices will be much lower. For the remaining 20-25 days of Ethereum mining, you will not get a big profit.

sp_, I remember you wrote that you will make your fork of Ethereum on the POW algorithm. Are you on the team of the new EthereumPoW fork or will you also be doing your own fork? I may not have read all of your posts, so I'm interested in getting an answer to this question.
2503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Raven vs Ergo on: August 25, 2022, 11:30:42 AM
Thank you, but I prefer not to change the bios on video cards that have been mining for more than 5 years. This leads to big problems or turning the video card into a brick.Аpparently there is already a degradation of the video chip on the video card, it does not work well during overclocking.

The Ethereum Foundation has announced it will be increasing the network’s bug bounty payouts fourfold ahead of the blockchain’s transition to proof-of-stake.

In a Wednesday blog post, the Ethereum Foundation said between Aug. 24 and Sept. 8, all “Merge-related bounties for vulnerabilities” will be quadrupled for white hats testing the network. According to the foundation, identifying “critical bugs” — those that have a high impact or likelihood of a high impact on the blockchain — will be worth up to $1 million. The bounty program also allows submissions for low, medium and high-risk bugs.

Ethereum classic hashrate is already full of asics with less than 5 gigabytes of memory. When other ASICs with more memory come here after the end of Ethereum mining, there will be no profit for video cards. The price of ETHW futures has already fallen over 50%, and when the exchanges open coin transfers, everything will end up with a big drop.

I'm following the hashrate of both coins and it's clear about the 5gb Asics changing to ETC, and there are another miners changing to ETC to delay the bomb in ETH (I don't know how many)
About ETHW we can't say anything yet because it's only futures right now, once the fork happens, people will probably dump a lot, it will be free money for some, but in the long run, maybe will hold some value.

I'm anxious to have these answers about the future of mining, somehow I think we'll have a balance
People are not considering a strong POW coin arising, and the next bull run can bring again good profits for us home/small miners

Another thing I wish (just wish ok) ETC changes dag size to 5gb to kick out Asics  Cheesy

I don't see a big drop in hash rate since the beginning of July. And these small changes will not push the end date of mining much.
https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate
And Ethereum Classic does not plan to change the size of the dag file so that this coin can be mined by more miners.

2507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH diff bomb what can a miner do? on: August 25, 2022, 11:02:18 AM
The developers say that the end of mining may occur on September 20
You have interesting calculations, but it is not known how other miners will behave. But always before the end, a lot of activity begins  Smiley And I'm too lazy to switch mining, I'll wait for the end of mining and then look for new algorithms.
2508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is there a crypto I can mine on my laptop on: August 24, 2022, 11:25:34 AM
Never a good idea to mine on a laptop. You don’t realize it but on a 9 year old laptop you can pretty much mine and the laptop can start a fire.

Laptops have bad ventilation unless they are gaming laptops. And after 9 years you got tons of dust inside your heatsink. If you mine constantly you will create lots of heat and most likely the battery can bulge and expand and explode. It’s not very wise to mine on a laptop.
9 year old really? But, it's surprising that its specs are still a lot better than most of the recent laptops now like I have which only have an intel celeron processors but even if I have that kind of specs like him, I won't ever attempt to mine any crypto with my laptop because I care about my gadgets and I know that mining a coin can only cause an overheat which will eventually damage my battery and then the other components inside it.

A pc can be more fragile to try crypto mining. Anyways, there are still lots of ways out there to obtain a crypto like faucets, bounties, and similar which can do less harm to our laptops. Why not do them instead, huh at @OP?
For 9 years, any battery will lose its relevance. On older laptops, almost all batteries were external, allowing them to be quickly changed or removed while the laptop was plugged into a power outlet. The price of such a laptop is no more than $ 100, and it does not pay off in mining.
2509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RTX 3050 with 4G cant run, PLEASE help me on: August 24, 2022, 11:17:53 AM
If you want it to work with RVN you have to install Linux,a newbie friendly version like Ubuntu, you can check easy guides on line on how to install and run t-rex which is almost the same as in Windows, you edit your script files here (equivalent to batch files in Windows) and run the miner with ./ and the name of the miner, you need to be in the current directory to run ./ otherwise you can run an absolute path like /home/user/t-rex/start-rvn.sh for example. It is as easy as in Windows and the latest version of Ubuntu is much laptop friendly as Windows is.I guess this is your only true solution to mine with your laptop GPU and also do work with it.

As you can see from my Linux server machine latest version of Ubuntu just wants 222 MB or something like that thus leaving you 3.7 GB to mine RVN for a couple of months, after that you can mine ETC which has a lower dag size.

Any operating system with a graphical interface takes 100-200 or more megabytes of memory from the video card. Linux Mining systems do not use a graphical interface, so they use a few megabytes from the memory of the video card. Maybe it's better to use Hive OS, Raven OS or others right away?

The only reason why anyone would direct their rig to mine ETC is hoping that the value increase after the ETH merge is successful but you guys have forgotten that ETH forks are coming, they might be a better option than ETC.

See the BTC forks...

ETC is a fork of ETH and is the future of POW.

Wrong, ETH is a fork of ETC  Wink  Cheesy

The only reason why anyone would direct their rig to mine ETC is hoping that the value increase after the ETH merge is successful but you guys have forgotten that ETH forks are coming, they might be a better option than ETC.

ETC rised over the last weeks, and it will continue. I wouldn´t trust this new forks for ETH after the merge - ETC is the original ETH chain, it exist for so long time, with max cap coins, reward reduction after a specific block time and it is the 3. biggest PoW network at the moment.

ETC can be ASIC mined.

ASIC manufacturers will pump it to sell their miners hehe
To pump the price of a coin, ASIC manufacturers must have a large share of coins on the market. They can also create a new coin and manipulate its price as they want. The profit on the sale of ASICs is not so big as to manipulate the prices of old coins on the market.
2512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: kawpow hashrate changes all the time ? on: August 24, 2022, 10:46:21 AM

12 pcs P106-100 6GB gives 267.6 MH ethash
12 pcs P106-100 6GB gives between 122MH and 130MH kawpow.
The power consumption is the same at the wall.

Why does kawpow algorithm hashrate change all the time ?
What value should I put in the calculator to predict daily revenue ?
I always look at the real income on the pool. 122MH or 130MH is not such a big difference at current coin prices. When mining on the kawpow algorithm, the powerlimit can be slightly increased, because the core of the video card is also involved in mining.
What miner are you using? Try other miners of the latest versions.
2513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New coin for miners on: August 24, 2022, 10:38:17 AM
Dingocoin.

A candidate worth consideration.
Trading available on major exchanges.
And its a PoW coin? Can you drop a link to its website? If a coin is good I except it to be available through mining calculators online like whattomine or Nicehash.

Algorithm: Scrypt. There are a lot of ASICs on this algorithm for a long time, I think this is not beneficial for video cards.

Nothing will be reset, this is not a brand new coin so do not expect anything of such, the journey will begin where Ethereum left off, the problem is how this project will survive, if all what ETHW have to offer is just the PoW algo its going

I think that PoW is enough boost for the ETHW coin for developers to start building their apps like they did in Ethereum and this will keep ETHW in track to become why not the new coin which differently from ETH may be supported by the miners and apps thus making it the new number one coin to be mined,of course this is the most optimistic scenario of all,if they did reset the Dag file which I find it highly unlikely,a lot of this coin can be mined in the beginning and this would also be beneficial to many miners, again this is another optimistic scenario.

Let's see
As a miner I always wish for POW coins to mine, but in the case of ETH, it's very dependant of Vitalik.
Most holders and community are happy with new POS and the future of ETH.

ETHW can flourish only if some good devs supports, and the strong  enemy here will be ETC and not ETH itself
Lot of miners are changing to ETC

2515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH diff bomb what can a miner do? on: August 24, 2022, 10:26:29 AM
I also think that the drop in the ethereum hash rate was due to the fact that 5 GB asics switched to mining ethereum classic, because their memory does not allow mining ethereum.
We can delay the Ethereum mining end date a little, but what will it give us? Algorithmic miners will direct the hashrate of video cards to mining more profitable coins. I will lose profit, and nicehash miners will earn it
2516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New coin for miners on: August 24, 2022, 10:20:44 AM

I would like to try a cpu mining again, I have spare ryzen computer in my house, do you have any recommendation of which the list are able to mine via cpu, and to everyone, what miner is best for ryzen cpu. Thanks
Mining on the CPU will be effective during the hype or you will use parallel mining on the GPU and CPU, as in this article.
https://medium.com/coinmonks/dero-cpu-mining-pool-9d92c9a5806b
But mining now on only one processor is very unprofitable, and in most cases 70-80% of the profit will go to pay for electricity.
2517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best CPU-mineable coin for 2022? on: August 24, 2022, 10:14:47 AM
DERO-- CPU Mining
In this guide we are going to explain how to mine Dero from the only Dero pool on the market at whalesburg.com, first of all we must first create the Wallet.

You can use a wallet from the exchange Kucoin or Tradeogre or create your cold wallet

2518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is there a crypto I can mine on my laptop on: August 21, 2022, 01:37:20 PM
The laptop is old, dated so even its graphics card you can try to undermine a little something like aion, arqma, turtlecoin, monero but if you can make 2 $ a day and already a great result then the laptop overheat with mining you have to be careful
I think that you made a mistake with a profit of 10 times if we are talking about an old laptop. Otherwise, all miners would buy old laptops, not video cards Smiley
2519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: September is already here on: August 21, 2022, 01:33:21 PM
I don't like the increased hash rate on ethereum classic in recent days. I will stay mining ethereum until the end.
2520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pardon is this sounds stupid on: August 21, 2022, 01:30:36 PM
Will the DAG file on those new ETH forks be reset? Sorry if this sound like a stupid question but I want to if 4GB cards will be able to work on the new ETHW and the other, please enlighten me if I'm wrong.
The size of the DAG file will depend on the decision of the developers and the vote of the community, as it happens with the Conflux coin
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5410204.0
It will probably be beneficial for the developer to have more video cards able to mine their forks, but it’s better to ask about it in the community of new coins.
