IF electricity is inexpensive. I know there are very few places where electricity is not expensive. Now what if OP is not from such an area, what advice do you give him?

I was only giving him an alternative and it's surely not bad.
I have already said that if your electricity is more expensive than 6-8 cents, then it is better not to engage in mining. But large mining companies have tariffs of 3-5 cents.
I prefer mining on video cards, because new coins appear and there is a chance to pay back a video card in 6-8 months.

I think asking to get a payback on a certain card for 6-8 months is not possible during such time that we are in.We are still in a crypto winter and this is the best time to collect coins, you either mine them, which is what I do or you invest in them by buying them.Electricity I think is a key factor for people running more than 3-4 rigs while for people running only one rig even if the electricity is a bit high it is still affordable in the sense that people can even pay a bit of loss by waiting for the next crypto craze which can bring insane profits if done right.
When ethereum was worth more than $3,000, even those people who had electricity for 25 cents and more were mining.
Now is not the time for profit and quick payback for video cards, there are a lot of nuances for new miners, because prices in the equipment markets have not yet fallen much.

I am using a Mac mini as I type.

I have 3 in the house. They allow me to run core wallets safely. They are more secure than windows in general. less secure that linux. But you can run linux on them.
I thought that a safe use case for cryptocurrencies is a hardware wallet. I do not like Mac laptops, because in Russia the price for them has always been 50-100% more expensive than the market price. This was before the sanctions and now. And their repairs are very expensive.
Mge likes their quick system recovery with a few keystrokes, but I also have no problem installing Windows from a flash drive. License keys for Windows Pro on aliexpress cost 3 dollars.
1664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: E9 Pro support for ETC/ZIL dual mining, boosting income by ~32% on Flexpool on: March 01, 2023, 11:01:22 AM
Please tell me, is it possible to use ASIC E9 Pro for mining Ethereum POW coins and other coins that use the Ethash algorithm?
Ethereum Classic has a similar Etchash algorithm, and when mining on video cards, the hashrate is the same on both algorithms. But I'm interested in the situation with the new ASIC.
1665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gamers beware: miners are now painting GPU memory on: March 01, 2023, 10:55:14 AM
What reviews are you talking about? The Chinese sell video cards after repair at 2 times cheaper, and these video cards work for at least 6-12 months in general. Delivery to Russia from China takes several weeks, so many people buy video cards there for 50-70 dollars.
In the store, a new analogue costs $ 220 minimum.
I'm from Vietnam so local reviews cover something that is very obscure and questionable Chinese products that you won't see anywhere. A bunch of dudes found something very cheap but questionable quality/price, a dude with technical background brought it first and broke it down, testing to see what was inside them and telling the other if it was worth the price/performance for social creed. We've some really old bb forums that took root from overclocking and PC hardware since 2006. Also, some VGA is at the end of product life so I doubt if you could find a truly new analogue for that VGAs (1060, 580,...)
There are a lot of offers of such video cards on Aliexpress, I even met lots for $50, but apparently the price is different for each country.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005196592806.html
I think that there are a lot of used chips for similar video cards, so for a poor gamer a good video card in the price range of 50-70 dollars.

Fraudsters have become more active.
Please check all links, and the most reliable check is to see the post from the developer. If you run this miner, then you can lose all the coins that are available on your PC. It is better to use separate PCs for mining and in a negative scenario, you will reinstall Windows again.

Rigel 1.3.8

  • (Nexa) Minor performance improvements
  • (Nexa) Echelon protocol support
  • (UI) Display GPU efficiency information (hashrate per watt)

Bug fixes:

  • Miner fails to lock core/memory clocks sometimes

SCAM

Always check links from multiple sources, don't trust anyone, not even me.

Rigel 1.3.7 Latest
If you use Linux OS for miners, then their developers update the miners.
That is why I do not like to use Windows in mining. The exception is mining with Nicehash and similar products, where developers check miners before adding.

You're right. Just like we should not download the products of those who are not ready to communicate with the audience, and as I see it here, it is "VERY LARGE".
As I said, conclusions have been drawn, the review has been compiled.
I do not mind your feedback, just consider an important note: I am not a Rigel miner developer.

GPU Plotting is Real – and Very Fast
GPU plotting is here from Chia and madMAx – and it is very fast. K=32 plots in 1.5 minutes on a single high-end GPU + 256GB of RAM.
GPU performance and i/o bandwidth are growing at a rapid pace
Plot grinding, spoofing plots with GPU, can be theoretically performed once phase 1 is under 28 seconds, but isn’t economical and requires a lot of continuous energy
Chia blockchain has constants set up to prevent plot grinding. The ultimate protection against plot grinding without hurting honest plotters is to keep it uneconomical
Chia is proposing a CHIP to reduce the plot filter to ensure that plot grinding remains uneconomical for the foreseeable future

1673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain on: February 25, 2023, 11:37:45 AM
Unfortunately where I am there are only high end cards in the used marked also, there is only Rx 6700,6800,6900 and very few Rx 5700 Xt-s here,we usually only have Sapphire or Powercolor brands so Sapphire which I agree is the best brands for AMD cards is widely used here. The prices though are much higher than that, some people here at 150 dollars are selling Rx 580 8 GB cards so here prices do not drop as much as in other parts of the world, people are attached to their things and want the highest possible monetary value for them even when the time of such device has passed.

A good thing though,Nvidia guys usually sell their cards a bit cheaper and that is why I have mostly Nvidias now in my rig,I have shut down the AMD devices.
Not all models are good from Powercolor, you can buy any model from Sapphire, they are all good.
I asked you where are you? If you have such prices, then it is more profitable for you to bring video cards from other countries and sell them. This will give you a good profit.

Right now I am in Albania from some years, relocated here for work and it looks like will be staying some others too as my child is growing up here.Yes whenever possible I have bought cards through Ebay but there is a lot of corruption in the postal office here and one time I have ordered a good one,and received one that the fans were not working, probably some guy at the customs or post office did it as the seller in Ebay is someone I have always bought and his feedback speaks for him. This happens rarely but it is enough to stop me from buying abroad.

For Powercolor I am very happy with the performance of the Rx 6800 XT as I have three of them and they all run super cool even in the middle of the summer.
I don't know anything about Аlbania, but don't Greece have cheap graphics cards?
It is hot in your country in summer, but how much does a kilowatt of electricity cost in your country?
You can come to Poland, Germany or Belarus to buy cheap video cards. I heard that Belarusian miners buy a lot of video cards in Poland, because mining is unprofitable there.
1674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gamers beware: miners are now painting GPU memory on: February 25, 2023, 11:10:03 AM
Do they really recycle the old memory chips? If you take a GPU it usually has about 8 memory chips. And its very easy to remove these chips if you have the right equipment. Heat it up for a minute or two and remove it with a suction pen. The pain will come right after.

Its very difficult and time consuming to take off the old solder and then you need to carefully apply the balls on the solder joint, you use a stencil to do this. Again this is doable however doing 8 chips will take 30-60 minutes depending on skill level. If this was reballing some GPU chip for a product worth $500 it would be worth it, but to go thru this hassle of reusing the memory chips just sounds crazy.
I have heard many times that it is better not to reball the memory, and it will work worse due to possible overheating during installation. But when repairing video cards, the masters change one memory module several times, and the video card continues to work for a year or more.
1675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gamers beware: miners are now painting GPU memory on: February 24, 2023, 03:57:18 PM
Recycling old memory chips has been a trade for China's brands for a while. Not just GPU memory but also others like RAM, and NAND flash memory,... You may not know, but some China NVMe SSD also uses shitty or low-yield NAND or even recycled NAND from used SSDs. The same for some questionable Chinese RAM brands like Kingfast or Kingspec (copycat of Kingston name).
Dead VGA cards with untouched VRAM could still fetch a good price even if it not working or are completely dead (ten bucks for RX 470/570 model with 8GB last I check). To be honest, it was very eco to make use of everything even the old and busted memory of all kinds. Still, advertising it as a brand-new product is dishonest. My advice: don't take anything from China's market at the face value, check reviews from many other customers or broke-down, disassemble reviews like OP mentioned.

lolMiner 1.68

Changes
Significantly improved Nexa mining performance on supported GPUs (e.g. up to +25% on 8G Ampere GPUs)

Fixes
Fixed a bug that can make the miner crash with error message "Authorization problem on all configured pools 1" during Nexa mining

Note
The alternative Windows version uses a different mechanism to determine the available memory on a Windows system. On most 8G GPUs this will cause the miner to select a smaller dataset table that has only slightly above 2 G. Therefore the alternative version might be a good choice for systems with connected screens or for Nexa / Zil mining using the Zil switching app.

Mining is a long term venture mate, if you are planning to make profits, maybe 3 to 5 years, that is if you don't even sell your mined coins at low price. Even those chaps who mined 50 Bitcoins at ago back in the day realized great profits at HODLing the mined coins after some time.

Now I shouldn't be the kind of person to tell you this, but If I were you with $3,000, I would just buy a coin and wait it out in a couple of years. There are very high chances that the $3,000 turns into $6,000 or more. Lately, that's very hard to achieve with mining in such a short span of time.
What coin should I buy to get a guaranteed profit in 2 years?
What if you need money and sell coins at a lower price?
Mining gives a constant and guaranteed profit every day if you have inexpensive electricity and you can service your mining farms yourself.

1680  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what I understand about bitcoin mining as a newbie on: February 23, 2023, 12:04:12 PM

Bitcoin mining is the process of using computer power to solve complex mathematical problems in order to verify transactions on the Bitcoin network.

Miners are rewarded for their efforts with newly minted bitcoins and transaction fees.

The difficulty of the mathematical problems adjusts dynamically to ensure that the average time between mined blocks stays at about 10 minutes. As more miners join the network, the difficulty increases to maintain this average time.
This process helps to ensure the security and integrity of the Bitcoin network. The energy consumption of the bitcoin network is very high.
Bitcoin mining is not for beginners. The next halving is already close and many ASICs will become useless. It is better for a beginner to start with video cards or asics for other coins, which consume much less electricity and do not make noise. And you can use them in the apartment or on the balcony.
