2501  Economy / Economics / Re: 1000 BTC moved after 10 years on: November 08, 2020, 09:48:23 PM
I'd keep holding but I'm not an old man nor am I sick. It really depends on your situation. I'd probably sell 1 or 2 to make my home safer, get some more security cameras, a good alarm system, a fireproof vault to keep my hardware wallet in, of course move all my coins to at least 3 different hardware wallets with a backup for each of them. Get some additional safety features like fire sprinklers, some guard dogs, maybe even hire a security company to patrol the area. With that much money at home it might be worth it.
2502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: American election is nothing to do with BTC on: November 08, 2020, 09:24:36 PM
Max Keiser said that Biden's win will push Bitcoin to a new ATH. This is an interesting idea that I don't completely agree with, but it will be interesting to watch how it develops in the following months. Chances of ATH hitting before Christmas are slim, but bitcoin likes to do the unexpected. A few months back most people thought we won't even break 14k this year. You can find the predictions in speculation to see that people were moderately bearish and now everything has changed in a week.

I don't see the reasoning.

Why would bitcoin go up with Biden's win? Is it because Biden will ruin the country&economy completely or is it the opposite? (restore the economy etc)

There was going to be a massive QE because of Covid19 anyway and I fail to understand where Biden is in this scenario.

It's their reasoning not mine, but according to them, Biden is going to be better for cryptocurrencies than Trump because of 2 main reasons. The first one being that Trump was openly negative and said some bad things about Bitcoin. The second is that Biden is going to be much worse for the rich than Trump, so they'll look for ways to move some capital offshore, possibly through Bitcoin.
2503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The main driving force behind bitcoin rally on: November 08, 2020, 04:24:44 PM
Demand in the main driving force behind bitcoin. Many people are being aware about the value of bitcoin and because of what happened in the past year 2017 , many people thinks that it could reach another all time high more than before that's why they are buying now and hold until he time will come and that's the reason why bitcoin price keep on increasing now.

Demand is such a broad term. Behind demand there's always news, TA, real users staking real money. When a company buys 50 million USD in BTC there's a real purchase followed by press articles that incite google searches, new investors downloading wallets on their phones, new exchange accounts being made, new forum accounts created. All of this forms a demand. The real thing behind this rising demand is a combination of many factors.
2504  Economy / Economics / Re: Not enough Corona Virus Vaccine until 2024, at earliest on: November 08, 2020, 04:08:40 PM
Here in India, the government is already taking the necessary steps to vaccinate its citizens who are above 60 years of age. On top of that the high-priority groups such as medical professionals and students may get the priority. In total, 300 million people are expected to get vaccinated in the next 4-5 months. At this pace, by the end of next year almost everyone here will be vaccinated against COVID 19.
Are you kidding me, India have a billion population and even if anyone develop a vaccine do you have any idea how long it will take to reach a billion vaccine being produced for commercial use. You need to rethink about your stats about vaccinating everyone because it is practically impossible within a year let alone in the next 5 years.
To be frank it looks like a political statement rather than facts because it is impossible.

That's true. They probably want to calm the society down and show they're doing something but in reality they know that people will get infected before they are able to vaccinate them. With the current rate it's going to infect half of the world population in the next 2 years and by the time they vaccinate people there will be a new mutation for which a completely new vaccine will have to be made. The virus isn't that dangerous if you're healthy. They should rather distribute vitamins instead of dreaming about vaccines.
2505  Economy / Speculation / Re: Biden's winning effect on the crypto market. on: November 08, 2020, 03:54:40 PM
Some public opinion says the price of bitcoin has risen since the start of the USA election campaign. In fact, crypto assets were rising not only during the USA election campaign. In fact, before the USA election campaign, the price of bitcoin had gone up.
Even a few months before PayPal’s news adopted Bitcoin, the price of bitcoin had gone up first. But I don’t know about the rapid decline in the price of bitcoin, which came together when Bidden won the election in the USA. Maybe it’s the market reaction that should be like that: bumpy, it’s also impossible if the bitcoin charts will align steadily. Or maybe Bitcoin is undergoing a correction. But the drop in the price of bitcoin has now recovered to $15,174

Well said!
The bull market has begun before the presidential campaigns. At 10k we were already in a bull market and the Square Bitcoin purchase in October followed by PayPal's announcement made us go above 14k. I'm sure the pandemic and huge printing of USD and EUR in the recent months had also some influence on the price, not to mention positive comments from Michael Saylor whose company holds $400 million in bitcoin.
2506  Economy / Economics / Re: Waiters/Waitresses/bellboys etc just lost their jobs on: November 08, 2020, 03:28:06 PM
This reminds me of this clip. I bet one day this is what we'll have to face.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM3GM299orc

^ It won't be that fast a robot will be able to take over all human jobs. the ability of robots to do what humans usually do is still imperfect. it would take a few more years of research for robots to perfectly take over human jobs, especially to take over the jobs of waiters/bellboys.

There's also a problem with safety features. If you make the robot weak and flimsy, he'll get damaged easily and won't be able to carry as much, open doors...
If you make him strong and tough he'll be hard to stop if anything goes wrong with his programming. There will be no need for hired hitmen anymore, you'll just have to reprogram the robot to kill the owner in his sleep.

2508  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is Bitcoin dumping right now? on: November 08, 2020, 03:04:33 PM
I agree with the above, there's no dumping. All I can see is coins changing hands with increased volatility. When a large wave of demand hits the market there's also a high counter force working from the other side as holders who made a lot during this run up decide to take profit. This is nothing to worry about and the price is still above the 14k level which is super bullish.
2509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happened to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency? on: November 07, 2020, 06:35:50 PM
Let's say China makes their own cryptocurrency and opens easy transfers between banks and their local businesses. What will happen to Bitcoin? Nothing because Bitcoin is banned in China anyway so first of all establishing a local cryptocurrency would put them in a position where they have to specifically ban all other cryptocurrencies but their own. In such case their citizens who aren't now using Bitcoin would still be unable to use Bitcoin, which means 0 impact on the market if you ask me.
2510  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Joe Biden can influence bitcoin on: November 07, 2020, 06:09:35 PM
whole world wants joe biden to sell america and americans for their stupid gains, thats why they hate and insult/attack trump as racist etc.
Not really. At least in my country, people wholeheartedly support Trump. Not because of what he can give us but because he can kick China's ass. Turns out, American people are in favour of Biden or they hate Trump so much that they vote for Biden. I'm not sure he's gonna sell America but he'll sell Taiwan, a territory that Trump wants to protect.

The results were pretty close. You can't say that America loves or hates one of them. 40% of American voters chose Trump, even though he's an idiot. I guess they prefer a known idiot than someone who hasn't shown his true colors yet.
Will Biden influence Bitcoin? He doesn't care about it, but people know that Trump doesn't like cryptocurrencies and thinks it's "not money". It's better to have someone neutral than negative on the chair.
2511  Economy / Economics / Re: What are they hiding from us? on: November 07, 2020, 03:16:46 PM
Many countries fake their inflation rates. Real inflation can be measured only by purchasing power, thus people use things like the big mac index for reference.
Your government can claim that inflation is at 5% but if you have to pay 10% more for bread, milk, sugar, it means the real loss of value of the currency was close to 10%, not 5 like the government wants you to think.
2512  Other / Off-topic / Re: Space Debris: A Subtle Way to Doom Humanity on: November 07, 2020, 02:55:01 PM
Space junk cannot orbit Earth forever. It will either be pulled towards us or away from us into space. If it gets pulled towards it's going to burn in the atmosphere and if away we shouldn't really care. The only thing this junk can interfere with is orbital stations and satellites, but if that happens people will have to find a way to shield from the debris.
2513  Economy / Economics / Re: This is why bitcoin HAS to go up on: November 07, 2020, 02:33:45 PM
20 years ago you could actually make money holding your fiat on a savings account. Now you're losing money. Yes, losing, because even if they give you 1% a year, the inflation in most countries is higher than 2%, often above 5%. At the same time, if you held Bitcoin you were able to make 100% profit if you bought at 7-8k.
Have you noticed how the value of real estate, cars, human labor is holding or increasing? It's caused not by the scarcity of these things or higher demand but by inflation.
2514  Economy / Economics / Re: What is causing last few days' run-up? on: November 07, 2020, 02:05:00 PM
A bull run is like a boulder rolling down the hill. It's hard to get it going but once you do it gains speed until it hits an obstacle and stops. PayPal news got it going and it broke through the 14k resistance which was a strong bullish sign that made more people join the rally. The news that started it is no longer important. People who buy now do it because they see a lot of green on their charts.
2515  Economy / Economics / Re: Need of the hour : Use the Crisis on: November 07, 2020, 12:50:43 PM
I do not get how we moved to third wave already, when was the second wave and how did it end?

There's no waves!
They split it into first and second wave because Spring and Autumn in the EU and the US are usually flu and cold seasons and those idiots can't even distinguish covid from flu.
Somehow the deaths statistics from flu have disappeared because now if you die from flu you are marked as a covid death and all who get flu or even common cold are quarantined.
There's going to be a third wave in Winter and fourth in Spring 2021 until someone smart stops counting.
2516  Economy / Economics / Re: After elections end this year for all countries, we are all screwed on: November 07, 2020, 12:38:04 PM
It's always like that. You eat democracy sausage, vote and go home thinking you've achieved something, that things will change for the better now that you've won. In reality everything moves forward and develops just the way it would if there was a different president or a prime minister. Voting changes nothing and money for the campaign have to be redeemed somehow. The easiest way to do it is through taxes.
2517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Turnoff Happen to Bitcoin on: November 06, 2020, 06:55:37 PM
I don't really care about that. Once you hold long enough and your profit gets big you stop caring about the little things like a fee in USD going from $10 to $20. Each of the coins that I hold is worth more than $10k over the price that I paid for them and the cost of sending them to another address is maybe $10. To me it's a joke, but I realize that the entry level will continue to rise. In 2010 you could simply get a bitcoin for free. In 2016 you could buy it for $200 and send it for $1. Now you have to pay $15k and we're on the way to paying $10 for sending it. It's becoming a safety fund for people who already have money, unreachable for a poor worker who earns $1 per hour in India or something.
2518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is the biggest disadvantage of bitcoin? on: November 06, 2020, 06:01:22 PM
All those HODL enthusiasts look forward to see bitcoin touching the $100k. In order for this to happen, it means more demand. This leads to more transactions per second which also leads to higher fees. Who knows how many satoshis we'll have to pay for having a high priority among miners' choices.

Let's get some things cleared here. Real HODL enthusiasts want to see it at 100k, but they aren't waiting for that level to dump everything. I used to hodl at 1k and waiting for 2k to come, but I kept hodling at 3,4,5k and so on. If we hit 50k, I'd probably sell 1 BTC to celebrate and pay for big holidays for my friends and family at some beach resort, but I wouldn't dump my coins. Hodling 4 life!

Fees are not going to be much higher in satoshis. Satoshis will be much more valuable in fiat so if we go up fast to reach 50k next year you will probably reach a point where a transaction will cost you $50, but it will still be 0.001 BTC The same 0.001 that you have to pay now for a fast tx.
2519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your keys, your bitcoin? on: November 06, 2020, 05:44:01 PM
Bunch of speculation in the first post that is really easy to counter. For instance:

Quote
But what if someone generated the exact private key.

Chances of that are extremely low. I don't recall a single case where someone generated a key to a wallet containing unspent coins.

Quote
or, more realistically, have stolen it

Then you have to report theft. Usually people who have a lot of coins keep them on a hardware wallet with additional seed backup hidden somewhere.

Quote
how would it possible to prove that victim is the real possesor of private key?

You wouldn't have to prove anything as long as you have the backup and are able to withdraw coins to another address.

Quote
What would California court say in this case? If they both can sign a message, do they both have a right to these coins?

Do you believe someone who stole a private key would go to court to prove ownership instead of moving the coins to his address?
Quote
Are there any other methods to prove the ownership besides signing a message?

Moving the coins might be one of them.
2520  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Targets for 2020 on: November 06, 2020, 05:21:48 PM
If we look at the previous bear/bull cycles, it would be natural for the price to be drawn towards points of resistance to test them. It's a normal situation for any asset to do so. We broke the 14k resistance and the price exploded because there are no known resistance levels above that price up until maybe 17k. What the charts are showing is that most of the fiat that was waiting to come in has done so and we'll either have to wait for another wave of deposits or a small correction, maybe to 14k? Touching 14k and moving back up would be even more healthy than a rocket flight to 17k.

Most likely, this will not happen, the price will stop growing very soon.

Anything to support that, or is it just your bet?
