2521  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: April 23, 2014, 01:33:37 PM
At this point, the forum is mostly dead to me.  I used to be active in about a half dozen boards.  Now once every few days, I check the "new replies" link up top, check maybe 2 or 3 of the threads, click "mark as read" on the rest, and check Dev&tech for big news maybe a couple of times each week.

Feel free to go back to page 14 and check the post histories of the people I've got on ignore (everyone except DiamondCardz).  I have, and I'm not missing anything.

Ad signatures aren't the only problem here, but they sure are a big part of the decline.

Better handling of the ignore function (don't bump threads in the notify and replies lists when the only new posts are from ignored users) and ignore list syndication would help revitalize this place.

Maybe the staff could perform a small investigation on users that have been ignored by the highest percentage of members and if they are spamming, the staff would message them and disallow their sig for a while if they keep spamming

As it was previously said, I think allowing ads in signatures is good for new members, for the forum and for Bitcoin if it is handled correctly; it gives back to the new members that can accumulate some bitcoins while becoming part of the community; we should be careful not to always ask for changes that benefit us at the expense of others. Let's ask the new members if they want to disallow ads in the signatures.

When you don't like to see endless advertisements for PD or RGC you can always check "Don't show users' signatures." in "Look and Layout Preferences", you won't see the signature ads anymore and you will have a clear thread but you will still get the spam from the half dozen members that spam to get money;these members should be dealt with by staff : it is not easy to punish them since they usually kind of post comments related to topics but you can still tell they post for money because their posts are not interesting to read and usually don't add anything to the discussion
2522  Other / Off-topic / Re: POST COUNT 100 !!! on: April 23, 2014, 01:19:13 PM
Hard to beat someone who's been here for years without being here for years yourself. Smiley

It is not hard if the guy didn't post a lot Grin

Look at here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;start=0 half the members (5/10) that registered in 2009 are still newbies

hilariousandco registered November 20 2013 and posted 7357 so far!! 56posts/day in average!! I posted 18posts/day in average and I feel I am posting all the time
56 post per day in AVERAGE?
I could easily post 56 times a day, and sometimes I do, but EVERY DAY? Gee wiz.

that's some dedication, I can see my self reaching 56 post a day when the section is active and people are commenting, but doing it everyday that's another level of dedication
Oh yeah. I suppose people can post from their phones nowadays, I can't though. 56 posts per day from my computer, I can't imagine the headache, haha.

If you are involved in interesting conversations and you are sick in the hospital, making short posts it is doable but if you have a balanced life and you make long posts it is pretty unhealthy amha
Yep, there's probably not much else going on in terms of living if you've that huge amounts of time posting.

And you could be learning something new, meeting new people, travelling, getting skills or saving some money

I guess you are saving some money when you post here though Grin
2523  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 23, 2014, 01:16:00 PM
Site is OK.
5+
Yes I am taking weekly 35000 to 40000 satoshi without any hard work good going

That is 17 to 20cents though

Someone living in the US or EU can make it in 1minute of work at the minimum wage! In a poor country, maybe 5min (EDIT : 5 to 20min)
2524  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: April 23, 2014, 01:14:24 PM
How about this?

I predict that we will hit $10,000 before we hit $10.

there's talk of calling the unit of bitcoin "bits" so 1 bitcoin (XBT) will be worth 1,000,000 bits

this is in effect a share splitting so each bitcoin share will be split into 1,000,000 shares and called bits.

so Professor bitcoins call is very bullish.

If Bitcoin is masively use for small payments there will probably be a new easy&cool denomination for mBTC or uBTC

Bits is pretty good because it is short, simple and close to the original unit; satoshis could be used : "let me send you 1million satosh"
2525  Economy / Speculation / Re: I think we are up from here. on: April 23, 2014, 01:10:55 PM
I believe that regardless of this 490-510 back and forth, shortly (1-3 weeks) we will be up.
I don't have any fancy graphs or any thing like that.  Just watching and I think something has to give.  The FUD has not caused us to sub 450 in recent memory so its losing its ammo.

What do you all think?  Up in a few weeks?  Down or staying in the 490-510 range?

Either we stay in the 490-510 range or we start to move up. I believe the worst from China has past and the bottom is already in.

Given the state of the world, there is always the chance that some sort of confiscation a la Cyprus could send Bitcoin soaring again.

I agree with you, the economic storm that will it the western financial world and the US&UK&France unfunded liabilities will send the price well into the 3digits

Maybe we will have one or two crashes before but maybe not

At this point a continued up-trend is much more likely than under $330.

...will send the price well into the 3digits.
Was that a typo, I think you intended to say 4 digits, or 5?  Smiley

I wanted to say 4digits obv

I am talking about the US and Europe when I talk about the western world; I don't know how Japan or other rich countries will be affected and I don't know if the USD will collapse before or after the EU debt problem comes back in the news but if I had to guess I would say the USD will collapse before the EU monetizes its debt or restructured it

Hello! Today two accounts (my 13773 and my wife 14532) was hacked and all bitcoins was withdrawed to 1NHQEzpernPm4BKh1E3P1Sh4Bn4YA6bXy6
Passwords not changed, 2fa is on. How can this happens? Can you help me to understand what is going on?
Man in the middle attack.
Support tell me, that my accounts was accessed from unfamiliar IP, but how can it be with 2fa on I don't understand.
The only one my mistake, the passwords was same on both accounts. But accounts was on different PC's and with different providers. e-mails was different too.

In the case of a man-in-the-middle attack, the hacker steal your logged-session which is valid for an hour or more.
The only way to protect from this kind of attack is to enable an automatic-logout-on-IP-change but I almost never saw it.
Even if it exist, the hacker can spoof your IP so yeah you can't do much...

It is quite a high level hacking IMO unless you computer is full of trojans.

That is a way for someone to access your account protected by f2a; getting your f2a back up is an other way

If each withdrawal is protected by f2a he won't be able to withdraw even if he got access to your account stealing your logged-session
2527  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: April 23, 2014, 12:54:00 PM
If only it were as easy as asking.  Roll Eyes
If you think about it, anyone who answers the question with confidence is full of B.S. Anyone who answers with a guess is not doing anything you can't do without asking.

It is obviously pretty hard to answer precisely, you can have a feeling, you can give arguments to make the point that it will be within a few years but it ends up to being a guess
2528  Economy / Gambling / Re: This is why you shouldn't use martingale on: April 23, 2014, 12:19:33 PM
Martingale are fun when you win Grin It is the same with gambling even if most gamblers probably like losing as much as winning, they are looking for the thrill of putting their faith in lady luck
2529  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Overview of Signature-Ad Campaigns on: April 23, 2014, 12:15:29 PM
This thread is very useful but now many peoples going against these signature campaigns because too much spamming and most of talk useless
Yup, I'm afraid we might see an abrupt end to this.
Is there is any thread shouting against it in recent times..? I would like to hear what others have to say..!

Well when there are they're in Meta, so just check there, but it's always the same argument from both sides.

They talk about it here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484259.0

I think it would be a bad idea, you can disallow signatures if you don't like to see the sig ad campaigns!
2530  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will 1 Bitcoin will Reach 1 million usd one day? on: April 23, 2014, 12:13:11 PM
A lot of Americans just don't seem to want free healthcare and/or like to blame Obama for everything.

The problem is that the healthcare is not free. And the tax payers are paying a huge price for it. Compare the Romneycare to the Obamacare and you'll see how better it was.

Well most countries are in debt. Is China in zero debt?

Even better. Think.

Taxpayers pay for police and army too. Why do people seem to be ok with that but not healthcare?

Americans seem to think socialism is evil. It's better and cheaper when everyone puts in and society benefits.

The US is getting very socialist

If you take people's money, use a good chunk of it for the state, a lot of it for guns and bad investments and then you give back 10-30% to the people, how is that good for the people??

Don't believe someone that throw you in jail if you don't give him your money; the politicians create wars with the help of the fiat system and always promise free stuff, peace and public schools but deliver wars, debt (the collateral is your children's and unborn future revenue) and coccuption

Thread will the price reachs 1,000,000USD https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=537916.0
Hahahahahahahah. The US is getting very socialist The US is getting very socialist.
Come back when you have free healthcare.

Healthcare cannot be free; if the state pays it it uses the taxes that it takes to the people to pay it : if the state takes 100 to pay for healthcare it will give back 50-70 to pay for healthcare and the costs are going to go up so it will end up costing way more

The players can win sometimes too; the site profit is running way above the expected profit
2532  Economy / Speculation / Re: RE : Wall Observer on: April 23, 2014, 12:05:54 PM

Is there any evidence to the belief that expansions in the bitcoin ecosystem, services & economy actually increase the price..??
...
So why in the WORLD is there this MYTH continuing about merchant adoption, growing ecosystem = higher price? Wtf? What am I missing..?

Welcome to the forum! Hope you've had the good first 6 days. Btw. the question is off-topic for this thread but let's not be picky.

Your question is discussed for example here.

Ok, though it's worth noting that a 'transaction' for bitcoin generally means something different than for PayPal/Mastercard etc - especially at this point.
For current figures, most bitcoin transactions aren't purchases, they're people moving coins to and from exchanges, between their own addresses, etc. Whereas I imagine almost every PayPal transaction is someone buying a Thing of some sort.
No doubt that will change, but the current figures aren't representative of use or adoption.

They still are to some extent; if the transactions represent real people who need to do the transactions; a growing number of transactions means growing adoption

Please make paragraphs because it's really annoying and eye-hurt to read integral text  Sad

I didnt even bother reading it. If they can't make their point in a clear thought out way (including format) then it isnt worth reading.

You would think he will have edit his post by now

Everyone has been concentrated on the legal definition of Bitcoin, mtgox and the volatility for months now; maybe it is time to go back to being concentrated on the positive : new technology, great medium of exchange ect.
2534  Economy / Gambling / Re: This is why you shouldn't use martingale on: April 22, 2014, 10:01:26 PM
Could be a marketing ploy to get other people to martingale

It shows a martingale gone wrong so it should push people away of playing a martingale

Well at least as an investor martingalers are great as although they may take money in the short term you can guarantee that one day you'll get their whole stack.

It's looking like that 64 BTC loss was this player's last bet.  They've already withdrawn hundreds of BTC of profit over the last few weeks.  Maybe they have the discipline required to quit while they're ahead!

he will be back. no doubt about it.

i may try this  Cool

I bet that he will be back as well

They were very lucky if they withdrew hundreds of btc from a 0.5-64 martingale

2539  Economy / Services / Re: Taking donations to create bitcoin nodes on: April 22, 2014, 08:27:00 PM
A node is a full client that has the entire blockchain and relays transactions/blocks across the entire bitcoin network. When your bitcoin client is syncing to catch up to the last block, you are downloading the blockchain from other nodes.

So if I understand correctly more nodes means faster downloading of the blockchain and possibly faster processing times as well for transactions? More nodes are good?

I don't think we need more nodes atm

More nodes don't speed the confirmation time
