2541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bloomberg : BREAKING: China bans financial institutions from Bitcoin transaction on: December 05, 2013, 08:30:41 AM
Beginning of the end for China's bitcoin boom?
It will certainly be spun that way by everyone looking for cheap coins.

Wait until the exchange rate hits $10000. They won't be able to keep the treasure hunters away then.
2545  Economy / Economics / Re: Correlation Between Bitcoin Price and Difficulty on: December 05, 2013, 06:28:22 AM
That first graph would be better if you made it a log scale so that we can actually see the data from before February.
2546  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin client documentation and implementations? on: December 05, 2013, 06:20:39 AM
Could you help a bitcoin novice and tell me where is the best technical documentation of the bitcoin client. And in which programming languages has it been implemented so far? I know the original is in C++ but any other like Python?

Schooling is a program designed to inhibit education.

2548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best Cold Storage solution? on: December 05, 2013, 03:08:43 AM
There is nothing that beats Armory for cold storage.
2549  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The biggest problem with cold storage wallets is making sure that your address.. on: December 05, 2013, 02:57:35 AM
If you're doing cold storage and think that somehow involves Bitcoin-Qt you're doing something very wrong.

Use Armory for cold storage.

Bitcoin is a distributed timestamping and script processing engine.

Currency and payment processing is just the first program that we've decided to run on it.

Am i the only one around that can't tell sarcasm in this chain of quotes?  Embarrassed
Forget about the sarcasm - the point is that you should never reuse a password. No exceptions.

If you're not using some kind of password manager to generate a unique, random password for every website you're going to get burned sooner or later.
2552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHO has the power and how can changes to bitcoin be effected? on: December 04, 2013, 05:56:18 PM
It is a breach of the social contract on which Bitcoin is built upon.  Bitcoin was built with certain promises in place, users voluntarily chose to use that system based on those promises.
If Bitcoin ever disregards output scripts then it's as broken as a calculator that sometimes says "2+2=5"

It's not a new feature, it's not a compromise, it's broken.
2553  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: BIP32 wallets and Armorys implementation on: December 04, 2013, 05:50:48 PM
What I'd like to see in the new wallet format is for the "Receive Bitcoins" button to produce a new xpub, not a single address, and for address book entries to prefer an xpub over a single address.

It would enable the privacy-preserving use case described here: http://bitcoinism.blogspot.com/2013/07/reclaiming-financial-privacy-with-hd.html
2554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lets talk about Bitcoin - Sick of the Media Portrayal on: December 04, 2013, 08:22:13 AM
The media is irrelevant. People who dismiss Bitcoin because that's what the talking heads on the screen tell them to do don't deserve to be early adopters.
2555  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 03, 2013, 11:55:27 PM
Yeah but the fact that he tried to tumble 96k and then put it together back in one wallet address doesn't give him much hope. How many wallets addresses with 90k+ balance do you think there are
2556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn, Foundation's Law & Policy Chair, is pushing blacklists right now on: December 03, 2013, 09:28:28 PM
Why aren't you haters in this thread writing your representatives in Washington
I avoid intentionally interacting with mafiosos and terrorists as much as humanly possible.
2557  Other / Meta / Re: So Is The Forum All Cool And Secure Now? on: December 03, 2013, 06:28:21 PM
And a ridiculously strong one for your bitcoins/banks etc. Dictionary words and birth year ain't gonna cut it.
Most bank websites in the US actually forbid strong passwords. The strongest I've ever seen is maximum of 12 characters, only letters and numbers allowed.

Typically you're restricted to 8 letters and numbers only.
2558  Economy / Economics / Re: Is 5 BTC enough to save for 2 or 3 years? on: December 03, 2013, 06:19:09 PM
I don't think that bitcoin will reach 10k.
People will start selling as soon as it about 2k or a bit more..
So, no. 5 or 10 bitcoins will not make you rich.
2559  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: December 03, 2013, 06:17:13 PM
They are hosted on the forum's server so their would be no benefit to proxing them.
Not all of them are.

Some people have their avatars set as a remote URL.
2560  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: December 03, 2013, 06:01:12 PM
It looks like some avatar images are not being proxied.
