It is something entirely different.

We all know this.  We can feel it inside.

What words will help to explain what this is?

Yep, you're right and I also have no idea what words to use to explain it Smiley It has it's downside though.. after Bitcoin every other currency project that I come across simply seems far inferior and almost comically flawed, so I'm afraid Bitcoin ruined me for a lot of other forms of money  Grin

p.s.: love the video too! It's almost like watching a life form being assembled Smiley
2543  Economy / Economics / Re: SWIFT ready to block Iranian bank transactions on: March 16, 2012, 06:02:25 PM
If someone here can compose good and convincing letter to Iranian leaders explaining how Bitcoins can help Iran, I will try to deliver the message right to the top.

I might be interested in writing something up if you can offer a few more details on who exactly you're planning to show it to and what exactly are their needs and problems.

These little social centrally run experiments of paper money are really nothing new and are by design destined to fail. Once they figure out that those who print them are getting goods and services for free they'll abandon it like oh so many local currencies before.

Poor people really, getting conned yet again. Has anyone explored this system in detail on their site?: http://www.tem-magnisia.gr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=2

Why are we posting rebuttals to posts made almost a year ago?

Please negate Smiley

Simple. You have 0, yes 0 clue about what money is, where it came from, how it came about, what was it's initial function or utility and especially what is a good money. ZERO clue.

Come back to me after you learned all that and then we can talk.

But now I see that will never happen.

May I borrow your crystal ball please?  Roll Eyes

I don't need the money anytime soon or anything but I don't want to lose it all.

You made a high risk high payoff bet now stick with it because it's not over yet and you just said you have ample time.

How about Switzerland. Almost every house has at least one military riffle/machine gun and yet it's one of the safest places on this planet.

I haven't sent it yet, please critique. Also feel free to adapt and use.
-------------------------------------------------------

Maybe you're already familiar with Bitcoin, but just in case I want to give you a quick overview. You'll probably find it interesting at least even if you decide not to use it now.

Bitcoin is peer to peer money. No banks are required, any user can send bitcoins directly to another user without permission and without restriction. No one at all has special privilege with regards to Bitcoin or the Bitcoin network. Bitcoin is code that people run on their computers. It is also the name of the network that emerges when those computers are connected.

Bitcoin is a different currency, not another form of dollars like PayPal or Dwolla. It's value is set only by what people are willing to pay for it. Recently it's been fairly stable around $4.90/BTC, but historically it fluctuates a lot.

MtGox.com is the largest exchange, in the last day people traded about $200,000 worth of Bitcoins there.

Bit-Pay.com helps businesses integrate bitcoin and if desired sell them automatically upon receipt to avoid exchange rate risk.

Bitcoin.org is the 'official' site and has links to more information.

I'm not an expert, just an enthusiast but I'm more than happy to help you find answers to any questions you have.

Please forgive me for being blunt but your message is uninspiring, boring and borderline spam.

How about you try something like this instead:

I don't know if you're up to date on developments about online payment processors and similar services or if you or your clients even use services like Paypal for doing business but if you do I'd like to give you a heads-up about something relatively new you might want to look into.

If you are using any such service and you, like me, really hate their outrages fees, you hate giving out your information for fear of ID theft and you hate their almost dictatorial control over your funds via charge backs or account freezing this is really going to interest you.

Personally I got rid of all those problems by using Bitcoin. It's a new thing that was recently invented. It's kind of like a digital commodity currency people trade on the internet but the cool thing about it it isn't owned by anyone. It's one of those open source projects as they call them, where a bunch of programmers developed it completely openly for everyone to see how it works but because of it's ingenious design it's still very secure and very private to use.

It's protected by military grade encryption and practically impossible to counterfeit. There are no bank accounts, no giving out info if you don't want, no company imposing their will on your transactions, and no charge backs possible. It's much like cash on the street but on the internet.

I know this sounds highly geeky but people actually use this and value bitcoins at about $5 a pop right now.. There are several online exchanges where one can buy them and it's pretty easy to get or sell some.

Here are a few links if you'd like to find out more:

www.weusecoins.com
www.bitcoin.org
www.mtgox.com - online exchange
www.cryptoxchange.com - online exchange
www.intersango.com - online exchange

Did you watch this TED talk?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMrzdk_YnYY

Also a question for you. Do you know of any computer on this planet as capable and running as many functions simultaneously as our brain is/does?

I watched part of the video.

The brain has about 100 billion neurons, each connecting to about 5,000 other neurons, giving about 500 trillion connections. It is these connections which are varying in strength which define our memory and how our brain will behave. In a simple computer model, you need to store both the strength of the connection, and the distance (to model synaptic timing). That's two values, preferably floats, which would require 4,000 terabytes. That would be a really simple model.

Get back to me, when you've seen the whole video, especially past the 11min mark, and get back to me when such a computer has been built.

2555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making a BTC pitch to a billionaire on: March 11, 2012, 02:28:13 PM
If I knew a billionaire I'd ask him to fund an independent evaluation of Bitcoin. Hire a prominent IT firm to take it completely apart, evaluate it's properties, it's soundness but avoid any economic evaluation, just the functionality. And then have them give it their stamp of approval.

Bitcoin doesn't need big money investment. It needs small money to feel comfortable using it.
2556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Algorithmic money: Bitcoin needs a buzzword and own lexicon on: March 11, 2012, 01:59:45 PM
Based on genjix's article: http://bitcoinmedia.com/algorithmic-money-bitcoin-needs-a-buzzword-and-own-lexicon/

Let's brainstorm catchphrases that would lend themselves well to describing Bitcoin and luring in new owners/users?

A few of my ideas:

Bitcoin -

- a currency not a even a banker with a super computer can create more out of nothing.
- combined user computational speed that puts the best most expensive super computers to shame.
- a currency so accessible the only requirements are being a live and having access to the internet
- a currency more predictable and fixed than the force of gravity
- rendering central bankers so obsolete they'll cry for Greenpeace protection
- so scarce that there will ever only be at most 1BTC per every 330 people at the current world population
- so free that only a nuclear bomb can stop you from sending it
- so transparent the whole world can see exactly how it works

Got any more? Cheesy
2557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pfoundation Bitcoin criticism on: March 10, 2012, 09:05:24 PM
Don't you just love the fact that Bitcoin isn't just theory but it's an actual real ongoing experiment which is going disprove all these ridiculous fallacies and meet these boneheads who believe in them with reality?  Grin

2559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stanford paper evaluating bitcoin on: March 09, 2012, 05:59:32 PM
Still I love all these papers.  They seem to be more and more and at a faster frequency.  People need to first start talking and thinking about Bitcoin so while some of the conclusions may be dubious they are at least thinking about Bitcoin.  That is huge.

+1 I mentioned this to that guy on google+ who held a TED speech on Bitcoin that:

Quote
6. Another great thing about Bitcoin is that is governed by true free market forces. Finally we have a real experiment, which can't be manipulated in anyway that will show us once and for all that freedom is the best way for a society to govern itself and that all the retarded economic theories out there about how we need a government to regulate or tax and provide certain services, how we need a central bank to monitor the fiat currencies, how we need the bankers to facilitate trade will be put to rest. And good riddance, I will happily dance on these theory's graves.

It doesn't matter what economic fallacies they believe, we now have a real experiment that will show good evidence to what the reality is. So as long as more and more people are talking about the concept even if coming to wrong conclusion on it's economic repercussions that's fine by me!

Could you please address my post?

I would sign up and play but I don't want to give out my name or any of my other info. Can I do that?
