2581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has the NSA already broken bitcoin? on: September 13, 2013, 03:31:29 PM
Is that what they cracked in 2010? Who knows. But I doubt they would fund 60% of a project which sole goal is precisely to make it virtually impossible for NSA and others to snoop on its users, unless there was a tangible benefit to it.

Knowing what's in the network packets that folks don't want them to know.

I've verified it works in Chrome, Chromium, Coolnovo and I think it even ran in Dragon, but i fell asleep before I could process what was going on haha.

For ideal efficiency you want no more than ~60% load on the PSU. So people are getting a 1,000 watt PSU to achieve that. 850w is adequate but not targeted towards efficiency, on a device that will be operating full bore, 24/7, it makes sense.

Also you could get two 500w PSUs and feed one to each side, but I wonder if you face an additional risk if one board is powered on before the others? Might that cause problems?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3124339#msg3124339

Thank you for beating me to that.. everytime I see someone post the "half load efficiency" stuff it makes my eyes twitch
2584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 13, 2013, 02:14:00 PM
Necroing the PSU discussion. I've been looking around and really like the pricing versus the stability on these:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=344

The 850 Watt version is at least as good but it would be interesting to hear about some OC options from KNC and how much extra power one could expect to need in case of a moderate OC.

I don't understand why folks don't simply get a really nice 1kw psu even if they only plan to use 800. It's a little bit more change, but what's a few dollars to ensure you have growth room, especially compared to the price of the miners?

This isn't a knock on you btw, I just keep seeing the PSU discussion.

looking at thegenesisblock i did some math and things are looking grim..wanted to know what you guys think about it.

Given facts:
- With an initial mining date of October
- Difficulty ~140 mil (now 110 + 30% over the next week)
- 1 Jupiter @ 400 MH/s
- BTC@140$

Results. This scenario with an increase of 77% until march next year will not break even!
Considering that in October we will most likely see 40-50%/11day increase since KNC is shipping, November and December mark the months of newcomers such as (CoinTerra and HashFEst)
The likelihood that the difficulty will taper off until march 2014 is next to 0.

Maybe i`m not seeing all the sides of the cube, but it is not looking good.
With BTC @ 180$ will have profited ~400$

I constantly run math, and while my heart is entwined with the KNC system, I have to say the math isn't showing promise for anyone getting machines after october. At least if you're looking for btc->usd roi. A better bet, using TGB calculations, is Cointerra's 2TH unit. The December $14k pricing and January $6k pricing are pretty much parallel to each other with regard to btc->usd roi.

This is why I'm on edge wondering if KNC will offer more hash power for the 1st quarter for less money. The price drop on the Jupiter was nice, but it's not enough.

The only other idea which comes to mind is leasing shares from the miners, to get 51-75% of your investment cost back to you up front. This would offload the burden.

KNC insider betting? Could even be a ruse to get people to jump on the yes side lol

Go back to the rock you came from.  Cool   Go buy some BFL miners!

No thanks.  You want to be rude?  I can be rude!  Go back to jail cell you came from.
How dare you aid in the commission of a fraud!
While you are at it, I have a bridge in Brooklin you can buy for 100BTC and a Nigerian prince that wants, no NEEDS your help!  Yes YOUR help!  He wants to give you 10% of his Royal treasury and his daughter but he needs 12k USD to transfer his money via his agent that is abroad in the UK.

That... wasn't really rude. Kinda just drolling on.

Had to resend code, it worked that time. Thanks.

11 hours and counting.. with the value of BTC now vs when I ordered, I figured you guys have made $2.43USD with my pending coinage.

Well played.  Tongue

Order 14775 still waiting to be sent the link (or funded, whichever). Any clue? Placed about 8 hours ago. For the premium paid, I wish it was a smidge quicker.

20 days to deadline and still no chip proof?

I don't care. I already setup deadline to 25/9. If I don't receive any information about shipping until Wednesday 25, I will simply ask for refund..

What country you in? Shift your order to me, I might buy it Wink

I don't make bamt, but I'm curious to know why you need a 64 bit version?
2592  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WILL BFL BE OFFERING A SMALLER VERSION OF THE MONARCH? on: September 12, 2013, 03:45:09 AM

Josh took PG and I out for lunch and I had noticed one of the assemblers had just started on a mini before we left.  When we got back, I needed to use the restroom and as I passed the assembly room, I noticed he had that one done and half of another one completed.  Considering how huge the mini-rig is, I was quite impressed at his speed.  I had figured a single person might have been able to do 1 or 2 a day.  This gentleman could probably do 6-8 if he had enough parts.  Made me think of the big dogs and their patience.

I've been poking the trolls commenting "yet still they ship product", and now I can truly say "ship product they do".

The big dogs who bought the rigs have no other CHOICE but to wait. Few idiots would buy their preorders at this point in the game, they'd be better off going with any other OEM. I know of at least 30 people who demanded refunds on 30 and 60gh units. Majority compared to total orders? No. But on the rise, definitely, along with reselling of the preorders at a loss to the original purchaser.

Yeah, they're getting rigs out. The better question, ignored by BFL, is where's the promised full production line execution? It's not in play. Jody appears out of excuses, or simply doesn't post them anymore, which is fine, it's not her fault. This week was one of several "promises to clear backlogs", but this one was the real deal according to Josh, thanks to their 7 day a week 2-3 shift a day multi-line production execution plan. I'm an understanding guy, but there is a point where a line is drawn. Keep in mind, I'm not a customer, I'm just someone who's looking into the situation out of a curiosity piqued by one of the most poorly executed business systems I've ever come across.

The issue is either parts supply, manpower or mismanagement. If it's parts or manpower, file it under mismanagement. That leaves.. mismanagement. Fancy that. And that's the best part! Some folks just want to know what the deal is with production, and what the holdup is. They don't even care it's behind, but BFL sweeps it under the carpet.

Maybe they're packing up a bunch of 18 wheelers as we speak, and will update the ship log all at once with 283,942 outstanding orders. I mean, right? It's a possibility.

Surely not a probability though.
2593  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BFL claims no FTC or BBB complaints filed.. and deletes my posts on it.. LOL on: September 11, 2013, 08:34:06 PM
It's getting better. If you follow my thread, or some of the newer ones, there's an uptick of customers with the same "messages being deleted" issue, ones even not related to this but simply "order delays".

A couple customers haven't received their products at all despite being a month past the queue and such.

The benefit of the doubt side of me says maybe there's a holdup at BFL but there'll be some huge, multi-18-wheeler shipout in the next day or so. The realistic side of me says, there's a growing issue far worse than ever before.

We'll see I guess.

FWIW, I don't even have BFL products nor did I order any. I've got no skin in the game, I just analyze things and look for patterns. Probably half the reason I enjoy the mining hobby.

let alone release something else that will not ever reach ROI
Explain to me how it will never earn back it's purchase cost? It is not only the most cost effective miner (GHs/USD), but also the most power efficient (GHs/Watt). If you think the Monarch is doomed, then just about every other ASIC out there will also be not-profitable. The entire network can't be run at a loss, so what's your solution?

You speak as if it's a real product. I highlighted the 2 most important portions of your response.

If BFL doesn't have its doors closed by legal authorites, and if they don't go bankrupt, and if they don't split up and run off with folks' money, and if the product does come to fruition, if it doesn't fall to the wayside regarding specs, promises and delivery like all of their other products (they can't even keep the hats or coffee mugs shipping), if they ever deliver the item while bitcoin can still be mined.. then maybe it'l hash some coins.

That's a lot of wagering right there, considering their production line has pretty much ceased for the past 12 days (minus a couple rigs), and they're telling customers to piss off when asking about it.

KNC will be on their own Gen2 products by the time all these "ifs" pass, which will likely be even better than the mythical Monarch.
2596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 11, 2013, 01:13:24 PM

My theory is this: They won't announce anything. They'll simply start providing tracking numbers to customers. Let the customers spread the word like fire to a pinetree farm. That'll be the best announcement which could ever be made.

Paul Revere's ride would hold nothing compared to KNC customers screaming they have tracking numbers.

You had me at hello....this would be an awesome way to let the news drop.

We'll actually see our units hashing on our pool accounts before they send them.

I don't think so.

Remember they stated that they ship on the day of production.
Put in a tracking-number for a day1 order, then you'll see  'Shipping on day 1 of production'
for ex. http://i43.tinypic.com/29e6p8p.jpg (found via google)

They will tell us some days before they start shipping, to ensure everyone can take a day off in order to be at home when the postman rings the bell.

I think it's likely they'll at least make sure the boxes connect to the pools and hash for a minute or 2 without HW errors. They're programming the mining info into the boxes prior to shipment, so I'd imagine it wouldn't take much more effort to test. Unless they're using SD cards or similar storage to hold the mining stuff, and someone will simply be doing that ala text file
2597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 11, 2013, 11:22:14 AM
I stand corrected regarding the SO-DIMM.

fwiw I can say that I was sure they would have used the a SO-DIMM device developed by OrSoC...

That's my fault. I said they would be using their ORSoC SO-DIMM based on the fact they told me they were doing so at the open-day. I'll fire Marcus a mail, and see if he responds with the reason behind what ditching their own Linux based controller for the Beaglebone was. It's got to be cost, and/or performance related.

If I get a response, i'll share it here. Wink

Could be a really good move, especially for the HDMI-out as another member pointed out. This would definitely put this into a high class mining group. If I had money I'd order Jupiters haha, I love the simple/efficient design, and it seems like every change is always for the better. This is why I love working with engineers so much.. it's always an improvement.
2598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 11, 2013, 11:19:13 AM
[12:06 AM]   Searing : although kncminer and others offerting regular credit card stuff etc plus paypal etc may have to be addressed by bfl someday ....people are (less monarch upgrades who are stuck ) are gonna be cautions on pre-orders from now on and use cc imhjo
[12:06 AM]   BFL_Josh : We'll see if they are still in business in 6 months.

I'm sure BFL will still be in the business of scamming n00bs in six months, which is sad.

It's kind of amazing he doesn't even believe it's possible for a company to just say what it's going to do, when it's going to do it, and then actually deliver.

I question if BFL will be open in a year's time to even be taking orders, though I'm sure they'll do their best to continue taking preorders from court even while sitting at their hearing. Enough complaints are piling up that it's reaching the right legal ears. More folks need to file official complaints to break the dam. Their entire production line has all but come to a halt over the past 13 days (minus a rig or two), and it's gotten even some stalwart BFL supporters worried.

Maybe I missed it, but there shouldn't be a bitbet on KNC delivering, it should be on how long until the folks at BFL are hauled off to court, and their location shut down.
2599  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WILL BFL BE OFFERING A SMALLER VERSION OF THE MONARCH? on: September 11, 2013, 03:33:38 AM
Better question: Will BFL be around in a year? It's looking unlikely. There's mounting legal force against them in their state, and they're already being monitored. They can delete my posts about it on their forum, but they can't do it here. Easily. LOL.

Their production lines have almost come to a halt over the past 12 days minus a few large items (go check their daily work log). That's always a good sign right?

Could surprise us all and ship out like 200 things tomorrow, so who knows right?

I'd imagine SPI for the interfaces. BUt that's just a total blind guess.
