I was very happy to see steam getting blown off though.
Where do you think BitPay got the dollars to pay the merchants for all that record high sales volume they processed this weekend?
2582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Auto payment on: December 02, 2013, 06:57:08 PM
Are there any wallets that can do automatic payments? For example if I wanted to pay a charity 1 mbit every month, the wallet would simply make that payment as long as it was running. I think if this doesn't exist, maybe it should, this would make it easier for people to donate or pay for services.
There's a service called ReDonate that sends you an email every month reminding you to donate.

It's not very good, but it's the best that exists so far.

or there will be an anti-trust lawsuit
Good luck with that.
2584  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alex jones calls Bitcoin a "Bubble" & "Globalist NWO" Creation on: December 02, 2013, 05:02:51 PM
He things his idas are original (they have been debated years ago), always thinks he is smarter than you, is apparently very religious, and thanks to this thread, is apparently racist, too.
That description fits the description of a certain blogger I know:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=162318.0

I refuted you over at the other linked thread. The solution is never stop coin rewards. That also improves the distribution problem, which fixes the fact that BitCON can never be a currency, as I explained in my rebuttal at the other thread.

"Bitcon" used deliberately (instead of a typo) is fairly rare on this forum.
2585  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alex jones calls Bitcoin a "Bubble" & "Globalist NWO" Creation on: December 02, 2013, 04:44:48 PM
I've been wondering for a while whether or not we should come up with a formal response to the inevitable fire & brimstone evangelist argument that Bitcoin is the global currency of end times. Maybe it's not too late.

Of course, if we even argue against it, it could just fan the flames and lead more people taking the position that Bitcoin is some type of antichrist currency.
The less of the world's future purchasing power that ends up in the hands of the delusional, the better.

2587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for Remittances on: December 02, 2013, 05:19:51 AM
In many lesser developed countries, holders of BTC can sell them for local currency at above-market rates via LocalBitcoins and other OTC methods.

Depending on the details of the countries involved, the cost of the remittance can be effectively negative.
2588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where did Satoshi first announce Bitcoin? on: December 02, 2013, 02:43:41 AM
Surely this forum didn't exist before Bitcoin was announced. So I'm curious where Satoshi first released Bitcoin. Anybody know?

Some time after having helped himself to a massive chunk of the Bitcoin monetary base.
Huh??
Just Ignore the troll.

As mentioned above, Satoshi announce Bitcoin a couple months before mining started in early January 2009.
2589  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 01, 2013, 09:26:49 AM
Do the same with the signed-tx file to transfer it to the online PC for broadcasting.
That's overkill. To move offline->online burn the transaction to a mini-CDR and discard the disc after broadcasting.

If you ever pick up a copy of the Bible, please remember that it's a collection of parables not to be interpreted literally fiction.
2592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 01, 2013, 05:16:14 AM
You could say that.  It's a DYI job.  The main components are an empty soda can, a length of mono filament fishing line*, and a used paint brush.

* I only use 20 lb test.  If you are after bigger fish you need stronger line.

A true fisherman can catch bigger fish with a lower test line. I use 4 myself.

i dont even use a line, i use dynamite.

Only hillbillys and rednecks use dynamite. Why am I not surprised, GOAT? Wink
2593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain size/storage and slow downloads for new users on: December 01, 2013, 05:14:33 AM
I thought maaku got a fair amount of donations for a well defined project aimed at addressing some of the scaling issues?  No idea how that effort is progressing, but it seems like there is some interest there.
It's still progressing.

According to a recent email conversation he's financially set, "through the end of January at least" and will be posting updates on the progress thus far shortly.

Apparently those who try it can, in fact, support their development via donations.

Time spent complaining that "donations don't work" in spite of evidence to the contrary would be better spent building a superior alternative to redonate.net, IMHO.

2595  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Ashamed to be a bitcoiner – Bitcoin Expo London on: December 01, 2013, 01:34:16 AM
This is a pity because:

Bitcoin != Libertarianism
Bitcoin != Anarchism
Bitcoin == Bitcoin
It really is too bad that such an amazing invention as Bitcoin has to be usable for those who want to enslave fellow human beings via institutional violence too.
2596  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: December 01, 2013, 01:25:44 AM
The authoritative opposition to Bitcoin will likely be along the lines of this:

e-Gold Founder Launches New Gold Backed Currency

A  transitionary solution at best.
All the downsides associated with electronic money combined with the counterparty risk of traditional banking in a single package.

Truly a visionary product.

2598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2013-11-21] Alpha Technologies Announces ASIC Miners for Litecoin are Coming on: November 30, 2013, 06:38:31 PM
I can't agree more. Although Litecoin was designed to be resistant to ASIC design, Scrypt (as best I understand) was a cryptographic tool designed specifically to be expensive to design and build ASIC devices to target it. The inventors of scrypt never claimed it to be ASIC-proof, they claimed it to be ASIC-cost-resistant. The designers of Litecoin were probably more aware of that than anyone. there's great technical explanation of scrypt as a crypto-tool with regards to ASIC design cost here[1].
Bullshit.

Litecoin was designed to be resistant to GPU mining.

When that didn't work out, they just quietly pretended to have never made those claims in the hope nobody would notice.

Anyway, this thread should be in alternate cryptocurrencies. The story does not meet Wikipedia's Notability guidelines with respect to Bitcoin.
2599  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 30, 2013, 08:16:25 AM
I always wonder what possesses someone to dump like that.  If they wanted profits they could have bled it into the buyers a little at a time and made more $, although on a slightly longer time frame.

Unless they are plumb dumb and thought it would change the market sentiment.  ::shrug::
What if it was BitPay or something similar?

Get ready ladies... Gox is about to take off.
Which way?
Up, but slowly over the next day or two.
You misspelled "down, very suddenly".
