2581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The Hack and The Rollback on: May 09, 2019, 06:21:51 AM

The recent hack of Binance which resulted into the loss of 7,000 Bitcoin valued approximately around $40 Million shocked and dismayed many people in the world of cryptocurrency all because we are assuming too much that as the leader Binance is employing the best security technology they can find but alas hackers are always one step ahead of the game.

Now, there is this talk about the "rollback" which can possibly reverse the 7,000 BTC transfer. This is considered to be conroversial since we don't know the possible consequences and there is the need to get the support of at least 51% of miners.

I think that it is really about time that the industry find an acceptable solution in case of a major hack as it can be frustrating to just watch the hacked Bitcoin moving from one address to another while you are helpless about it.

2582  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin just broke $6000! (2019) on: May 09, 2019, 06:11:35 AM
Back over $6000 for the first time since November!

Finally, the time has come for Bitcoin to break through the $6,000 level and from there the sight is towards the $6,500 level and once we get there I think it can be easier to go up, up and away. Is this already the big signal that the bull run is coming back? Well, a lot of coin hodlers, lovers and enthusiasts are getting to be excited though cautious of what can be the next in the ongoing Bitcoin saga. I am sure that there are also who are wishing that Bitcoin can dip a little so they can get in with the bandwagon before it goes up into the "moon".
2583  Economy / Economics / Re: Btc stability and volatility question? on: May 09, 2019, 05:54:53 AM
It's just a fantasy that some people think is real. It becomes more obvious because it's a currency. Like any other currency, it's exchanged for another currency, it is something that is unavoidable in an exchange system, and everyone needs 1.
All currencies are volatile by nature, the same goes for Bitcoin so. It's just at another level. Also we could say like we're used to with gold. It's not Bitcoin that is losing/gaining value, it's the dollar.
Not exactly agree with what you are saying. It not really the dollar that is losing/gaining so much of value everyday. Yes perhaps dollar is fluctuating but by an extent of inflation which is merely 2-3% if we call about the USD whilst Bitcoin is much more than that. You are right that every currency is volatile in nature and bitcoin too is volatile but the main thing is that it's volatility comes from the fact that people use it as an asset than to use it as a currency. Speculating it as an asset is what makes it more volatile everyday.

Big volume of speculations is what brought Bitcoin to almost $20K in 2017 and by that time almost everybody was rejoicing and proclaiming to the whole world the beauty of Bitcoin. I did not hear too much that speculations can be bad for Bitcoin unlike now...maybe we realized that too much speculations can hinder the massive adoption of Bitcoin. People are hodling on to their Bitcoin because they are expecting that its price can go up and up and away. And for now there is nothing we can do about it as we are in the free market. Maybe we should just let Bitcoin be as it is and see where the whole boat is going.
2584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEWS] [Yahoo Finance] [Metamask+CoinSwitch] on: May 09, 2019, 05:47:26 AM
CoinSwitch, the leading cryptocurrency exchange aggregator, has announced a partnership with MetaMask, the most popular Ethereum wallet, that will enable users to convert 300+ coins into ETH and deposit it directly into their wallet. This new feature will allow over one million MetaMask wallet users to receive deposits in the form of almost every major virtual asset, all thanks to seamless integration with CoinSwitch technology.

Here is a step by step tutorial to convert 300+ coins into ETH using MetaMask - https://blog.coinswitch.co/coinswitch-is-integrated-into-metamask-wallet-db710001c2b3

You can read the complete news here -
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coinswitch-makes-markets-easier-metamask-024000272.html
What a good news this day. It looks like that will be very easy to do that. just curious about is there  a fees to do this service? And can I only convert my any other coin to the ethereum? I can't convert it back to the ethereum? it looks like there was no more information about that.
Another question can we swap ethereum asset to the ethereum instantly or this is only working for coin with another platform?

This is a very interesting news and one that can make many of us happy as this can be a very convenient service. I have many tokens in my MEW account but for me to convert them to Eth they should already be in an exchange at least and I have to transfer them which can sometimes be time-consuming and tedious. With this partnership between Coinswitch and Metamask I can easily convert my digital assets to Eth as long as they belong to the 300+ listed.
2585  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Scams are a global issue on: May 09, 2019, 05:39:43 AM
Scammers enter empty space which is a weakness of cryptocurrency ...
and being careful is an absolute thing
and possible Scammers in cryptocurrency due to lack of government support retention in all countries of the world and many newcomers who act carelessly in dealing with transaction cryptocurrency and this is the empty space used by Scammers
Even if there is a government who protect our money, people nowadays will always find a way to scam those who lack of knowledge. If you ever handed a cryptocurrency you should always think your security of it first because you are now the government of your own investment. Stop defending the government because you already know what happens when you leave your money to them.

We already have many laws against frauds and scams and yet from time to time we hear of victims of different fraudulent schemes and ways enriching the operators and leaving the victims with empty bags. I think that this is already part of human nature -- that desire to get rich as fast as possible and that desire on the victim not to miss out. This is very true in cryptocurrency but this is truer with the fiat money. Scam is not invented by cryptocurrency nor by fiat money. Now, this is an stigma that the industry has to address squarely otherwise the damage can be long-term and can affect the dreamed massive adoption of this technology.
2586  Economy / Economics / Re: The BIS has attributed the volatility of bitcoin to the lack of a central bank on: May 09, 2019, 05:33:32 AM
Volatility will never be removed on bitcoin and crypto and we certainly don't need any central banks to control the flow of coins in circulation and the value of each coin as well. That's the beauty of a decentralized, deflationary currency: it cannot fail since it has no central point, but volatility is also a boon of cryptos as due to this, merchants can't meddle with it, more so accept it on their platforms as a form of payment. Should they accept it, they still need an intermediary to ensure profits which basically just removes yet another portion of the profits, too.

Having a central bank to control Bitcoin will make it just another fiat money...it maybe can solved the extreme volatility happening from time to time but will make it controlled by few people and therefore going against its very nature. As in anything man-made, there can be advantages as well as disadvantages depending on someone's views of things and that is the same thing with Bitcoin. In my take, this is a free marketplace so we let Bitcoin be volatile though I am welcoming regulations to make sure that all players are behaving well and not doing shenanigans that can undermine the trust and confidence of investors and traders.
2587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what we can buy with bitcoin ?? on: May 09, 2019, 02:31:10 AM
It all depends on your country. If you live in the USA or Canada, you can buy a lot of things with BTC

Japan has a lot of businesses and stores that accepts cryptocurrency. Since their cryptocurrency adaptation, they really had adapted crypto not just as an investment tool but uses crypto as how it was supposed to be. There are groceries, bars, restaurants, and even airlines accepting bitcoin in Japan.
But, for some countries, there are hardly no merchants or service provider to use bitcoin to. It will be convenient to use bitcoin as an alternative for cash, since all you have to do is use your QR code to pay for goods or services.

I heard that Japan is one of the leading countries where adoption of Bitcoin is growing steadily. Though the revenues generated for merchants' Bitcoin operation may not be that spectacular, still it can be viable and given some time there is always room for growth. Here in my country, there are now schools and many service providers which accept Bitcoin. One of the many factors that hindered the use of Bitcoin in commerce is its volatile nature...though this can be a big advantage to traders.
2588  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Merit "trading" - buying and selling Bitcointalk merit on: May 09, 2019, 02:23:45 AM
pretty interesting threads....may be some time soon we may see merits getting listed in exchange
That's bad idea on your head. if you mind merit source will be listing on exchange and some of member here bought some to follow up them rank here, it is very confused. merit aren't blockchain, you can't trading it and compare into your self.
It is not fair to buy the merit because merit and high rank depends on our own hard work if we will work on it we will be able to get fair and huge earning. This forum is for all of us to make money we can make useful post about the topic and it will give us good result at the end, trading is another thing as for trading you will have to spend money but to make merit you will have to use your ideas and thinking about related topics.

Trading merits in this forum is something we should not allow because this can be counterproductive to the intention why we have this system implemented right now. Though I have to be honest that the merit affected me just like many of us here, we have no choice but to unite with the forum on this thing. We should not buy and sell merits as this is against the policy of the forum and this can never be helping the forum in anyway. Admittedly though, it can be difficult to impose this policy against trading because transaction can be taking place outside but then we can determine with the quality of the posts if one is deserving of a merit or not.
2589  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-08] Hackers Are Shuffling Binance’s Stolen Bitcoin on: May 09, 2019, 01:54:14 AM
It appears that the BTC from the Binance hack is now being moved around to new addresses. The transactions are continuing to be sent out in smaller and smaller amounts, from one account to the next. Amy castor, a block-chain analyst, answers why the BTC is being moved so quickly with such a high rate of activity:

“Money laundering 101: breaking the transactions up into smaller and smaller amounts making them more and more difficult to track”

It is amazing that with the modern technology we have, people can be able to see and watch the movement of the stolen cryptocurrency but there is nothing we can do about. The technology we are employing is helpless in stopping the said movement...this is one thing I realized that no matter how advanced we are essentially we are still limited and sometimes powerless. This is akin to watching people being murdered while your hands and feet are tied. Such is the irony of a society relying so much in technology.
2590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs USD Storing Value on: May 09, 2019, 01:48:09 AM
Quote

Do you agree that one of the reasons why USD value is dropping is also because of cryptocurrency?

As of now, there is still no direct effect cryptocurrency (especially Bitcoin) has on the price of the USA Dollar but this can be changing if and when central banks of other countries will prefer to get Bitcoin as one of the reserved currencies alongside with gold. And since this is not yet happening, cryptocurrency is existing alongside with the dollar as friends and not as a competitor. The real reason for the continuing drop of the real value of the dollar is because of inflation and that tendency of the government to just print more fiat money (called as quantitative easing which is a fancy name for printing money).
2591  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance #safu fund on: May 09, 2019, 01:42:55 AM

Does anyone know if Binance can take care  of the 7,000 + lost btc by themselves, or are they going to need help from Justin Son. Also I heard somewhere that there #safu fund is in bnb. Can anyone confirm this?

I have not yet heard anything on that matter by Binance but on my opinion I think they can easily take care of this problem as we know that Binance has been very profitable right from the very start. So we should not expect any solvency problem that Binance could not face with flying colors. This can be the biggest test of Binance's resiliency as the top cryptocurrency exchange in the marketplace. Their number one job for now is to make sure that the trust and confidence they are enjoying will not be diminished so that no competitors can take advantage of the situation.
2592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: how hard will Binance coin (BNB) get dumped? on: May 08, 2019, 01:59:12 PM
with all the drama about Binance today after they got hacked and also the fact that BNB was already in a big bubble after its pump, how hard do you think their token is going to get dumped now that their business is facing a crisis?

The recent hack which many are disappointed and even shocked to learn can have some effects on the BNB token but of course this can easily be  remedied by Binance people by being open about it and the things they are doing to prevent the same thing from happening again. Binance remains to be a very profitable operation and this may not be making a strong punch on their finances...the most important for now is to make sure that all the coins/tokens of the users were not touched so that there will be continuing fear by its customers. I am sure that Binance can easily survive this and if I have the money this can be the best time to enter into BNB.
2593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Address can now be as Simple as Domain on: May 08, 2019, 01:53:33 PM
I've just learned about unstoppable domains https://unstoppabledomains.com/ which is a pretty cool concept in my book. Instead of having a long key to share with people it can be as easy as a domain name ex: hellothere.zil

What are your thoughts on this concept? Will this make crypto less intimidating?

This is actually my first time to hear of such a good concept. I must be living in my own cave, so to speak, to have miss such a good idea. This is another excellent way to propagate cryptocurrency instead of those boring and very long lines we can just deal with a domain which is more classy, easy, smart and more convenient. I am hoping that soon this can be accepted by the many and become more popular. This is like having your own website address.
2594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MOST PROJECT ONLY INTERESTED IN USING HUNTERS WITHOUT CARE FOR THEIR HARD-WORK on: May 08, 2019, 01:49:25 PM

How bounty hunters are gonna be paid with their efforts and time is something at the discretion of the project owners and most of the cases they do not want to consult this thing with us. That is the sad reality...more so if a project is a scam right from the very beginning. Though there are always exceptions from time to time...those managers who are really establishing community connections and are pro-hunters meaning they are not just thinking their own side but also taking on the sides of the hunters. I am suggesting that there should be a way for both sides to make a dialogue on this matter otherwise bounty hunting can slowly die a natural death.
2595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IEO is not that bad as stated on: May 08, 2019, 01:40:57 PM
My own reasons why I think IEO is better than ICO

1)IEO projects are legits ,scam free but
 i) don't always expect the IEO tokens to double after IEO instant sell out ,many are complaining about IEOs losing value I think this is possible and normal too

2) IEO is here to fix scam issues only don't expect that all IEO will be a success on the long run, they might still fail but far from scam like ICO projects

3) it's wise to do better research even if the IEO is launching on binance ,don't just invest because the IEO is from popular Exchanges because what the project is introducing might not even make lotta sense

When ICO became less popular for doing crowdsale, many leaned towards the STO platform but so far it failed to generate the expected interest and enthusiasm from the crowd. So now we are seeing project doing the IEO thing...which can be advantages because the crowdsale is done under the watch of an exchange so there is no need for one that can carry the trading of the tokens or coins after the crowdsale phase...and this is why many investors are getting interested with this set-up. But of course, just like any project, there is no guarantee for its success. A project can still fail even if all the advantages are accorded into it and the price of a token can still plummet anytime. I think it all depends a lot on the project and the people behind it.
2596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Funds are no more #SAFU! Binance lied? on: May 08, 2019, 01:33:44 PM
Either binance lied or not is out of question

How do you expect just 7000 btc to crash bitcoin? This is not 2018!, no body panic sells that easily any more. Bitcoin with billions cap, you expect a less than 50 million stolen bitcoin to dump it ??

The hack in Binance will not be affecting Bitcoin or the whole cryptocurrency market for sure...this is just a drop in the bucket, so to speak. Now having said that, I think this can be affecting Binance itself because we are assuming that it is the safest cryptocurrency exchange in the whole world being the number one and the most popular as well as the most pro-active of all them all. However, I am sure that days from now people will start to forget what happened to Binance. This should however be serving as a big warning to all exchanges big and small to be careful and to make sure that their defenses are always alert, alive and enthusiastic (borrowed from a song no pun intended).
2597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is FuturoCoin worth? on: May 08, 2019, 01:27:22 PM
Hello guys im new here, I just want to ask people if FuturoCoin is a nice cryptocurrency because a lot of friends are talking about this right now and I just want to know other opinions of people who knows better than my friends about crypto currencies. Thank you guys! Sorry for my english xd

The ultimate questions are: does it have any special use cases and is wide adoption likely? A quick look at the website shows it has speedy and cheap transactions, but there are already coins boasting that. So adoption will be difficult. It looks like the volume of trading of the token is good, but it's not listed on major exchanges. I personally would pass on this, as I see stiff competition ahead.

This coin is coming from a platform that is also into revenue sharing model and has its own social media offering. I am a little bit familiar with this platform because I used to be a member of this though am definitely not a technical expert. So far they are doing good though nobody can be sure as to its sustainability and wide adoption however it can be suffice to say that it has its own captured market because it has many users in many countries. And as usual we should be taking everything with some grain of salt on it...we have to vet well so we will not lost our money into the wind.
2598  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Make Sure You have 2FA enabled on your exchange accounts on: May 08, 2019, 09:25:57 AM

Hackers are now really using their talents and genius in order to inflict pain to others and to gain wealth for themselves and in today's cryptocurrency-loving society they are finding a big paradise to explore and exploit. Hence, we users have the responsibility to do what we can do on our side in order to protect our digital assets which can easily gone with the wind once these evil people can gain access. We should always use 2FA in all our exchange accounts...this should already be one of the basic protection measures we should adopt.
They are all talented ever since and they are smart because they can hack anythin they want. 2FA is still not a guaranteed but we must always use the top security on every exchanges to preven from any hacking incident. Exchanges are always prone to this one, just put money on exchanges enough for your trading activities.

The thing here is that we should not be using the exchange accounts we have like a wallet because that is not the purpose of the exchange anyway. Though a hack on the site can mean that we can be refunded still it can be sending some chills on our spine when we learn that the exchange we are trusting is suffering some serious breach of security. Having the 2FA done is now becoming very basic both for our protection and that of the exchange itself. As they are always saying, nobody can be careful too much because we can be proven to be two steps late.
2599  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is HitBTC scam? on: May 08, 2019, 09:21:02 AM

I have an account on this HongKong-based cryptocurrency exchange and though I never had any issue on withdrawing coins, there was a single transaction that it took for the site maybe at least 2 weeks to be done and by the time that the token arrived on my account in HitBTC the price of the token was almost zero. I understand that there are many complaints on this site and I think their customer service department is not doing a good job resolving them. Consequently, HitBTC is not considered one of the best exchanges in the market. Just be careful.
2600  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance hacked AND proven to be wash trading on: May 08, 2019, 09:08:36 AM
Binance is still one of the greatest crypto exchange ever

I have never understood the reverence Binance attracted and still don't. And the guy in charge tweeting about researching doing a reorg of the bitcoin Blockchain to claw back his poxy money is a glaring demonstration of his lack of understanding and egomania. It astounds me that anyone who's spent more than five minutes reading about BTC believes it's a viable idea. If you weren't sceptical about them before you should be now.

https://www.coindesk.com/binance-may-consider-bitcoin-rollback-following-40-million-hack

I am sure that the security breach and eventual loss of Binance is a great reminder to people behind Binance to avoid feeding their ego too much. This is a very big lesson for them and should be serving a big notice to all players in the cryptocurrency exchange industry that it is time to inspect all aspects of their platform so no hole can be found gaping and just waiting for a disaster. This recent breach has been sending shock waves to the whole industry and rightly so...let this be like a vaccine the industry needs from time to time.
