261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to mine scrypt with ASICMiner Block Erupters? on: January 09, 2014, 06:06:16 PM
There are no suggestions.  The AS part of ASIC states  Application Specific.   ASICMiner Block Erupters can only mine SHA-256 coins.  They CAN NOT do anything else but that.  So my suggestion would be to find another alt SHA-256 coin to mine.

That should be the OP's math is wrong, and it should be changed from a 3 hours retarget to a 5 hour retarget.  Since 600 X 30 seconds is 5 hours not 3 hours.  Or just Re-targets every 600 blocks to make it easier.

Just wondering if we can get some official word on when the retarget is supposed to happen.  3 hours is not a correct time.  Considering 3 hours was mentioned and the block time is supposed to be 30 seconds, this would equal a retarget every 360 blocks, but we have passed 5760 a while ago, and no retarget.  I see the coin is at 5809 right now, almost 50 blocks past the retarget, and it's still sitting at almost 8.  This coin is going to die if it doesn't retarget soon.

Also what coin did you clone the wallet off of, as I have a feeling there is something in the code that was missed, as it seems to be reaching out trying to pull down a large blockchain from somewhere.

Lol, what block is the difficulty re-target???  Its working on 5763 now, and it's still got a 7.822 Difficulty.  Lol, I hope there isn't a clause that doesn't allow the difficulty to adjust downwards or something silly like that  Smiley

Weird I have the same problem on my Windows build.  16 active connections, Usually sits at Up to date, but occasionally jumps to 1% of the history, and 415918.  Almost as if the wallet is syncing with a different coin?  Maybe when they cloned it, they forgot to make a change and its syncing to the old coins blockchain?

For the answer to the question if it will retarget in 24 hours.  No one can say for 100% sure, but we are now sitting 13 blocks off the retarget.  With the current Network hashrate of 50 MH/s we are averaging a block found about every 11 minutes, but each one can still vary greatly.  So going by that we would be about 2.5 hours away from the retarget.  If the mining power continues to drop, as it has been the blocks could take a lot longer to find, maybe even 24+ hours.  If a few more people jump on to push Bacon to the retarget, it could take a matter of a few minutes.

What happened was to many people jumped onboard to get as many coins as possible when the coin was launched.  The difficulty shot up through the roof, and everyone seeing that the coin was now running at a normal level jumped off.  It's very common for people to jump on coins when they launch to get a few thousand before anyone gets there.  That was more then I have ever seen come to a launch.  Right now, the coin is stuck at a high difficulty, and cryptocurrencies don't retarget until a predetermined block is found, this one being every 360 block I believe (30 sec block times and 3 hour re-target).  So the time to find the blocks is now about 20-30X as long as it's supposed to take.  Once the coin hits the re-target, the coin will automatically change the difficulty to where it's calculations estimate will bring it back to a 30 second find time, or block time.

Problem is the coin started off way to strong.  Had about 750 Mhash of power on the network off the bat, and blocks were found every 2.5 seconds.  This caused the difficulty to ramp up way to high, and the majority of the miners have left.  Bacon has 68 slices yet to be found before a retarget, but the network hashrate is sitting down in the mid 60's and every few minutes I watch as yet another miner stops mining bacon.  At this rate, bacon may never hit it's retarget, and no one will be able to sell their bacon bits.  After the retarget, I hope people don't jump back onboard, and ramp it back up to a difficulty about 7 and leave again, or the coin is as good as dead.

You know, if you don't volunteer some of your hashing power to help push baconbits past the difficulty readjustment, there won't be a reason to sell your bacon bits.  Just wondering if a few people can help nudge it past.  I looked and the network rate dove yet again.

Just wondering if someone can verify for me.  Does the next difficulty adjust at Block 5760?  I'm going to keep pushing my power towards it, but everytime I look, the network hashrate drops and the avg block time is growing quickly.

Maybe a donation to the people keeping this coin alive in these hard times  Smiley

271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So many coins, wallets and network syncs.. on: January 07, 2014, 09:50:33 PM
My fix is to pick about 5-10 of your favorites, and not jump from coin to coin as they are being created.  Then my active ones like Bottlecaps, I have synced all the time, while others like BTC or LTC, I sync them whenever I transfer coins in, or transfer them out.  Sure it takes a while, but they don't need to be up to date if your not using them atm.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multipools......the real coin killers? on: January 07, 2014, 09:46:02 PM
Yep they really screw up these coins, especially the small ones with a low network hashrate.  Boosting the difficulty to astronomic numbers then once the numbers change, they drop, and it then takes weeks to get the difficulty back on track.

Even without things like Multipool, websites like Coinwarz or Coinpolice do the exact same thing.  And even if those were not up, alot of greedy people would still jump to whatever coin they felt made the most money per day.

There aren't many people that are willing to mine coins they believe in, so count yourself part of a rare group.

Open your wallet, open the console and type getdifficulty. That will give your the current difficulty.
