261  Economy / Speculation / Re: Help me to understand current BTC fluctuation on: March 07, 2013, 09:34:42 PM
This point is invalid, I am sorry. All exchanges are already artbitraged and have been for couple of years.
...
Welcome to the future where bots trade for us.
This point is not true; i am sorry. If they were really arbitraged that long, the volumes and spreads would tend to equalize, the cheaper exchanges would gain volume, etc. A 1000 exchanges would have to be all preloaded with fiat, because it's not as easy as B to move...

Welcome to the world where there is no exchange transparency, and MtG first and foremost has significant incentive to trade against itself.

Reasonable people can disagree on this though; if 70-80% of a "fully-decentralized"  Roll Eyes currency trading at 1 exchange is ok with you, then run with the herd and party on!  Cheesy
262  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox is bitcoins weakest link!!!!!! on: March 07, 2013, 08:56:28 PM
Not really.  Day traders are going to trade on the exchange with the consistently lowest spread.  Because MtGox is the most used exchange, it'll have the lowest spread.  And because it has the lowest spread, it is the most used exchange.

Exchanges already exist with fees below MtGox, but they aren't as successful, because they all have various problems.  Bitfloor was hacked and not smart with security.  Coinbase has issues with downtime.  Most other exchanges aren't available for one particular main currency or another - MtGox has the most world-wide currencies supported AFAIK.

MtGox isn't nearly as good as it could be, but nothing better has yet presented itself.
+1 I agree with General Spike for once.  Cheesy

Speculators go where the volume is. It's the easiest and most lucrative place to separate amateur "investors" from their money. It's like trying to catch salmon during their run up the river, rather than trying to catch them in the ocean.

Plus, for the big pump-and-dump artists, they can control the reference exchange rate for the entire Bitcoin world there.

This is the "good" MtG now. For those who remember, it was a real POS with dark pools (to make things easier for the pump-and-dump brigade) in 2010-11, before the 611 crash and the Karpeles era.  Cheesy

Cheesy

267  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox is bitcoins weakest link!!!!!! on: March 07, 2013, 01:42:55 PM
Sorry but you need a centralized exchange that way you can use others to gauge what's worth what...
Right, so that the pump-and-dumpers can gauge what's worth what for you, and eventually .gov regulators can come in and start manipulating that gauge even more, the way they do on traditional exchanges.  Cheesy

Maybe YOU need that. I don't want Bitcoin to just be more of the same old system.
268  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people think one Bitcoin will be worth $1000 (or more) on: March 07, 2013, 12:44:23 PM
New trolls and astroturfers, (might be same people under different usernames) such as the OP keep arriving with the same worn-out, debated, and redebated arguments, and you regulars keep wasting NEW time from your lives rehashing the same crap with them...  Cheesy

Pathetic! Let Bitcoin, and other virtual currencies speak for themselves!

I think ripple will go a long way towards decentralising bitcoin exchange.

Your argument makes no sense to me.

If the price fluctuations are caused by professional 'pump-and-dump teams', what would prevent those teams from spreading their pump-and-dump strategy across several decentralized exchanges, if mtgox were not available to them?
For one thing, there would not be all these people who couldn't execute their orders because MtG was so overloaded and lagging when it really counts.

More importantly, there would not be a reference price set by the pump-and-dumpers, which the "traders" at other exchanges blindly follow. If you think it would be just as easy to manipulate that reference price at 5-10 xchanges simultaneously, i am not surprised my argument makes no sense to you.  Cheesy

I think it would be geometrically if not exponentially more difficult to simultaneously manipulate price discovery at 5-10 xchanges, rather than one.

273  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally back on track on: March 07, 2013, 04:13:55 AM
how did you know to do that??
It's the same as asking gamblers exiting a casino about whether they won.  Those that did will proclaim loudly how much money they made.  Those that lost (the majority of punters) remain silent.  He didn't know any more than a roulette player knows the ball will land on black next.
+1  Unless he was the member of the pump-and-dump team that set this up.
274  Economy / Speculation / Re: Help me to understand current BTC fluctuation on: March 07, 2013, 03:59:57 AM
My opinion is that the fluctuations and instabilitiy is caused first of all by the centralization of Bitcoin USD trading at MtGox.

That exposes the entire Bitcoin system to the artistry of every pump-and-dump team that operates at MtGox.

It's great for the professional speculators, but it's not good for the system as a whole.

However, given the usual human herd mentality this idiotic situation persists.

Serves everyone right who continue to perpetuate the trading centralization around MtGox. So, party on!  Cheesy
275  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox should halt trading when Order Lag time is this long. on: March 07, 2013, 01:14:21 AM
Why not just set your own buy/sell price on orders, then you don't run the risk of selling at an uncertain market price....unless you are yourself a panic seller trying to unload your bitcoins for whatever anyone will give you...in which case you get what you get.

because sometimes the market price leaves what you expected and you want to place/cancel an order.
Serves everyone who got damaged right for continuing to crowd on MtG.
So many other great exchanges now.

If you insist on having the usual Wall-Street style centralization, enjoy the periodic pump-and-dump fleecing at MtGox, and the consequent Bitcoin/USD instability in general!  Cheesy

Cheesy
278  Local / Трейдеры / Re: Теханализ и не только on: March 07, 2013, 12:41:24 AM

Cheesy

Cool
