So now it's five votes for Rfd1 (languagehasmeaning, jjacob, abacus, neochiny, and myself) and three for a4 (Timeloard2067, actmyname, and Taras). I hope I've got it right this time.
So has the community decided on Rfd1? Or are people still debating the choice?

More than 24 hours have elapsed from the last vote...

hehe... voting for Rfd1... it is the best move i can see...
a4 is useless for me... even if i am black..i can crash white when white do it...

Do we all agree we've reached the consensus for Rfd1? It seems so to me...

(Rfd1: recursive acronym of Rfd1 for de w1n!!!)  Grin

Your move bitcointalk. You have the white pieces

I don't know why they're talking about how they're going to eventually surrender, my suggestion for a4 hasn't changed.

Sometimes move order means everything, other times it is less important. Although there are some important differences between Rfd1 and a4 it is possible that some future positions could transpose.

If you plan on playing two moves at some point try to compare the options available to your opponent based on the move order you choose. Sometimes the answer is obvious (when one move order involves a check or capture with a forced response and another move order gives an opponent multiple choices) and sometimes it is not. Giving your opponent a choice could be good (if their best response leads to a transposition while other responses are mistakes) or it could be bad (where the best response leads to a position better for your opponent than would occur with the more forcing move order).

Sometimes you will see a good player repeat a position several times before making a different move. This could be to gain time on the clock before time control. It could also be to give an opponent a chance to make a mistake knowing that their best response would be to repeat. The concept is similar. If you are risking nothing to give your opponent a chance to make a mistake, it might be wise do to so.  Of course exceptions could exist such if your opponent is the one in time trouble and repeating a few moves would help him/her reach time control.

Did anyone attend this event: https://scalingbitcoin.org/montreal2015/

It is something I have been thinking about more lately.

So far we have four votes for a4 (Timelord2067, actmyname, languagehasmeaning, and Taras) and two votes for Rfd1 (abacus and myself). There is also one vote for Rac4 (jjacob), but that is not a legal move. We will wait until everyone's done debating a4 vs. Rfd1 and for jjacob to correct his vote before deciding.

It also looks like our esteemed opponent does not wish to confirm or deny that he is Bruzón Batista. I figured I was right.

I prefer not to confirm or deny every guess or I may reveal myself quickly.   However I can deny in this case since I already provided a clue that eliminated him as a possibility (based on current ratings):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1148538.msg12179763#msg12179763

Interesting to see another tie vote! I will say that the next several moves for each side will be important in deciding the direction of the game. Keep considering not just your plan but the likely plan of your opponent.

11. Bf4 is unanimous.

Sorry Foxpup, but I'm not sure if I've well understood your meaning... Did I refuted Nh5?   Huh
Refute, as in to prove incorrect or unsound. Nh5 is unsound because we can just move the bishop away, leaving the knight poorly placed. Not only was Black's move useless, it has significantly weakened his position. Or did you just figure "Black attacks the bishop, White saves the bishop, so we're equal" without considering the other effects on the position?

Beginners often make moves such as that in the hope that their equally inexperienced opponents will not see the attack (which works often enough that they don't understand what they're doing wrong), but any half-decent player would never even consider such a move. Experienced players always assume the opponent will defend correctly, and will not attack unless it gives them an advantage even if defended (or there is no defence possible). For example, Black did not play 8... b5 because he expected to take our queen (although he obviously would have if we didn't move it!), instead he did it to get his bishop out while we were busy rescuing the queen.

266  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin dead? on: September 13, 2015, 04:28:29 PM
Bitcoin is very much alive as demonstrated by continued adoption and venture stage investment.

I think prices are temporarily facing downward pressure because of Bitcoin XT related questions.  Once a consensus is reached about how bitcoin should be scaled, I believe the price of btc will recover.

Blockchain analysis and regulatory questions might have a bigger long term impact than the block size limit. I think we all know the blocksize limit will eventually need to be raised. The question should be when and by how much.

Regulations cannot kill bitcoin but they will impact where bitcoin companies choose to incorporate or do business. Blockchain analysis will bring more attention to privacy questions.

If nobody else is interested in Bg5, my second preference is Nc3.
That being the case, we have four votes for Nc3 (Timelord2067, jjacob, languagehasmeaning, and myself) and two for b3 (actmyname and Taras). Ordinarily I would wait to see if Taras is convinced to change his vote, but at this point it doesn't make any difference. Looks like we're going with 10. Nc3.

1. Nf3     d5
2. c4      e6
3. g3      Nf6
4. Bg2    dxc4
5. Qa4+  Nbd7
6. Qxc4   c5
7. 0-0     a6
8. d3      b5
9. Qc2    Bb7
10.Nc3    Be7

Another small hint regarding my identity. I won my round 1 match in Baku:

I don't plan to announce my results from my round 2 match because that would significantly narrow down the number of people I could be.

Oops, I couldn't contain myself and made more charts.

Vote summary
The dotted line here is 2 times the second most popular option.

Game statistics
I will be measuring three health indices of the BitcoinTalk team: Confidence, Synchrony and Integrity.
The Confidence Index is the percentage of votes that went to the winning move. If it is high, then that move was obvious or planned. If it is low, the community was unsure or divided about how to proceed.

The Synchrony Index is 1/n, where n is the number of options that received a vote. Low synchrony means many options received votes, and high synchrony means that everyone went for the same few options. Low synchrony is not usually a bad thing, especially if confidence is high.

The Integrity Index is a measure of how seriously the game is being taken. It is the percentage of how many votes cast were for serious moves. Absurd and invalid votes, even after being revised or removed, are included in this index. If integrity is any lower than 50%, BitcoinTalk is likely to lose without moderation.

If the Confidence and Synchrony indices are equal, all options had the same number of votes. If they are both at 100%, only one option received any votes.

If all three indices are at 100%, and many people voted, well that's a perfect world.

If Confidence is extremely high and Integrity is extremely low, we're being trolled.

I will probably modify the Synchrony algorithm later to be more readable on the chart. Honestly I just like playing with graphs. Wink

I like the graphs!

You're 11 minutes too late, but I'll let it slide. We need a tiebreaker. d3 or Nc3?
TY, I should have post immediatly just the important part, I would have gained at least half hour.  Roll Eyes

Waiting for a tiebreaker to pop up.

d3 please

It looks like 8. d3 is the community choice. My response (which some of you already guessed) is below:

1. Nf3     d5
2. c4      e6
3. g3      Nf6
4. Bg2    dxc4

270  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 08, 2015, 05:36:21 AM
Okay, so we have three votes for d3 (jjacob, languagehasmeaning, and myself), two votes for d4 (abacus and sourgummies), and one vote for Qb3 (actmyname). I actually prefer Nc3 or Qb3, but I'm still going with d3 to break the tie. If there are no new suggestions in the next 24 hours, Team Bitcointalk is going with 8. d3.

I am happy to see more players participating. I will wait another day or so to see if the consensus changes since the votes are so close.

I will be busy with the World Cup soon but will still visit bitcointalk every few days to make a move.  Thanks Foxpup for tallying the votes.

If I have time I plan to talk to a few more players about bitcoin. The last person I spoke to seemed very receptive.

i dont like chess game!

Sorry to hear you are not a fan of chess. Nobody here will force you to play against your will.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin stress test on: September 04, 2015, 10:25:39 PM
The stress testing will drive the price down significantly but it is not intended to kill Bitcoin.

I also have wondered about possible ulterior motives of such a test. Purposely trying to drive down the price could be one possibility

273  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lets play a game of Chess on: September 04, 2015, 10:20:25 PM
I will wait for a consensus before responding but I am happy to see more players getting involved and debating possible moves.

In other news I spoke to another highly ranked Grandmaster about bitcoin this week. Turns out he is fairly interested. Next week I will try to get him to download a wallet and buy his first bitcoin.  I will keep approaching people one by one until I think I have enough interest to ask a tournament organizer to pay appearance fees and prizes in bitcoin. BTC is such a better solution with players coming from many countries to play.  One day I hope that BTC can become the preferred reserve currency for global commerce.
274  Economy / Economics / Re: Low BTC price is good for Bitcoins at the moment. on: September 02, 2015, 08:04:23 PM
If Bitcoin's success depends on the ability for people to buy full coins then it's fucked.

I think one of its biggest mistakes was not to start off with a larger number of units. Yes, I know it's divisible but that's not how the average mind works and unless average minds are aroused it's not going far.

Long term success has almost nothing to do with the ability to buy a full coin. The psychology issue can easily be addressed by wallets using milliBits (mBTC) by default

The blocksize debate and fungibilty concerns related to blockchain analysis are far bigger concerns

275  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2015, 07:42:25 PM
Its interesting please post here  Wink Wink

How much BTC do you have now ?  Huh
How much did you spent?  Roll Eyes
How much did you lost or scammed by someone?  Cry

Thanks

Some additional comments:

Bitcoin must be spent regularly to be considered a major currency

By avoiding most alt coins and putting trust in 3rd parties most scams can be avoided

Always use best security practices

I don't know how to play chess but I really interested to it. Hoping that someday I can play that game.

7. 0-0.

Thank you for actively participating. Would you be willing to announce once the community reaches a consensus? That way I wont have to count votes (which I hope will come along with more players) or worry about any disagreements.

If you do not have time for this maybe someone else can volunteer.  I only want to worry about my moves, not those of team bitcointalk.
