261  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can what happened to Samourai Wallet happen to Electrum ? on: April 27, 2024, 11:26:31 AM
Governments can always take down any website they want as history has shown us, but it doesn't necessarily make the software inaccessible. If for instance the authorities shutdown Electrums website, I'm pretty sure the software will still be distributed elsewhere.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First ever epic sat sold for 33.3 BTC on: April 27, 2024, 08:53:58 AM
Would I pay 33.3 BTC for that? Nope, simply because I'm not even close to having 33.3 BTC lmao. Am I surprised? Am I against it? Not really. People pay for dumb shit every day from overpriced handbags to unnecessarily expensive NFTs, but to each their own. Free markets innit?
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Post halving, why are altcoins the most affected on: April 27, 2024, 05:40:38 AM
Altcoins are heavily affected negatively simply because bitcoin has been bearish in the short term and that altcoins in general have had huge multipliers already lol so it's just right for altcoins to have a huge correction. Even in fully-fledged bull markets, prices don't just go up in a straight line.
264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your favourite exchange can be nowhere to be found on: April 26, 2024, 04:27:31 PM
We're talking about exchanges, but only two out of five of what you've mentioned are actually exchanges lol.

But yea I get your point; don't get too comfortable with exchangescustodial services because from hacks alone — nevermind insolvencies through other causes, is already a huge risk in itself.
265  Other / Meta / Re: How can someone know all the signature campaign he has joined before on: April 26, 2024, 04:16:15 PM
Other than these solutions above this reply:

You can check out Archive.org and hope that some of your posts in the past got indexed. You can just check X monthly/yearly increments depending on how frequently you changed signature campaigns in the past.
266  Other / Off-topic / Re: Microsoft doesn't seem to want to keep Windows secure unless you pay more for it on: April 25, 2024, 07:44:24 AM
But that is not the point. Windows can be breached in seemingly innocuous ways, without your knowledge even just by clicking on a link.

I mean yeah, never said it was the best OS, but you're unlikely to get infected(but definitely not impossible) if you're careful.

Personally, Linux > MacOS > Windows. I'd recommend MacOS for the masses personally because Linux can be too intimidating. MacOS is definitely not the best but it's still better than Windows imo.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rate of abandoned projects on solana on: April 25, 2024, 03:46:59 AM
The solana blockchain has a lot of supporters hence why every project released on it seems to have “potential” even if in reality they really do not have. It’s a matter of credibility and confidence that these investors have.

Solana has been releasing memecoins left and right and people who can not identify red flags will surely miss them and be blinded by its name. Even though the blockchain it was launched on to has had successful projects not all of them would be.

"Solana has been releasing memecoins left and right"

 Huh

Fun fact: Any person savvy enough can create their own tokens on literally any trustless layer-1 blockchain with smart contracts like Solana. It's literally no different with Ethereum. Solana just became memecoin land simply because of the cheap tx fees.
268  Other / Off-topic / Re: Microsoft doesn't seem to want to keep Windows secure unless you pay more for it on: April 25, 2024, 03:20:52 AM
I've used Windows operating systems for literally a decade without almost any problem(besides when I was in high school and pirated everything, hence malware everywhere). You'll just need to watch out for what you're installing. Don't just install shady/pirated software; and if you really need to, do it on a virtual machine.
269  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Exchanges Nowadays on: April 24, 2024, 05:02:25 PM
It's going to depend on what country you're in.

United States: Kraken
Everywhere else: Binance

Alternatively, if your trades are made within days/weeks/months, just do on-chain through the likes of Uniswap so you get rid of exploit risk.
270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don’t like the term “crypto” on: April 24, 2024, 04:48:02 PM
Not a fan of it either because cryptography aside, 'crypto' sounds so edgy like it's some sort of teenager counterculture thing. But yea what can we do — it's now pretty much a household word that it's too late to change. Even 'DeFi' and 'WEB3' didn't stick as much as 'crypto'.
271  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If all your wages were paid in USDT, would you accept it? on: April 24, 2024, 04:38:57 PM
If your salary was not US dollars, but USDT, would you dare to ask for it? Although USDT can facilitate transfers and cross-border payments, thinking about the fluctuations and risks makes me feel a little panicked! It can’t be used everywhere in daily life, What do you think? Come and chat!

This is going to be totally dependent on personal situations. If for example, I was in a country with a really really bad government, I'd most likely take the USDT so I can leave the country immediately with fewer problems with banks if I wanted to. Otherwise, maybe not.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will cryptocurrency create peer-to-peer transfer problems in the future? on: April 24, 2024, 01:56:47 AM
it has a shit ton of weaknesses. the governments have shown they can block ex's some of the time. what will happen in the long run when they come after pools or miners.

How is it surprising to know that the government can shut down exchanges? They can literally shut down almost any business if they want to, regardless if it's bitcoin/crypto-related or not. Even them going after pools/miners is totally expected.

There's a reason why this quote has been used a lot when talking about Bitcoin: “First, they will ignore you, then they will laugh at you, then they will fight you, then you will win.”
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will cryptocurrency create peer-to-peer transfer problems in the future? on: April 24, 2024, 12:18:44 AM
It is indeed a disadvantage (all advantages like Bitcoin's decentralization have some drawbacks), but it's pretty much the same with things like cash. It's totally up to you to make sure you take extra safety precautions to make sure that you don't get scammed.
274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World Of Crypto Has Changed in Last 6 Years. on: April 23, 2024, 11:29:20 PM
Since when has taxes stopped most people from doing anything? Yes, it will stop some people, especially in countries like the United States, but most people will just end up not declaring their transactions — especially those that do things on-chain, not on centralized exchanges.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rate of abandoned projects on solana on: April 23, 2024, 11:19:14 PM
Why do you seem surprised? Remember the scam-filled Ethereum ICO mania of 2016-2017? It's the same this year on Solana, just with memecoins. At the very least with memecoins, expectations are far lower because everyone knows they're literally useless in the first place; not with those ICOs that pretend to be something big.

Ang Bitcoin transaction fee today na hindi near-instant — more or less 1hr, is around $25.

278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Introduction to Crypto Airdrops on: April 23, 2024, 04:01:01 AM
It isn’t deep but it looks like a programmer error where the code is meant to insert the name or something. Instead of that it could be made to look and sound better. “Why isn’t my project’s airdrop listed?” Or maybe “Why isn’t a project’s airdrop listed?”. You said you’re genuinely asking, do you think it’s a bad suggestion?
Makes sense. I'll consider it.

For the people I’ve seen around, they tend to know what airdrop is. The ones that don’t know are 98% likely not into cryptocurrency, really.
If you're on niche crypto forums like Bitcointalk and/or are around people who are genuinely interested in cryptocurrencies, then I'll understand why you'd think that. But trust me if you go out and meet crypto normies that get their information off of YouTube and TikTok, yea they're clueless.
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what do we think of LMEOW token? on: April 21, 2024, 11:55:50 AM
There seems to be some well known twitter guy called GCR who once said this token will go to 1USD. The owners of this token use that as a so called prophecy.

GCR said nothing about price, and while he mentioned LMEOW, he just mentioned the ticker way back then just an example of a catcoin. Don't dig too much into it lol.

"waiting for $LMEOW token that catalyzes a paradigm shift in meme investing away from dog tokens to cat tokens". https://twitter.com/GCRClassic/status/1623311308241108994

And followup tweet:

"disclaimer this was a shitpost, and when a 16 year old launches lmeow inu in 36 hours, it's going to be a quick rug and i don't believe we see a bid in cat tokens in general, until the next bull cycle" — https://twitter.com/GCRClassic/status/1623312082820075522

But if you want to take a bet on it, then feel free to do so.
280  Other / Archival / Re: Exchanging crypto to fiat. I need a new system. on: April 21, 2024, 10:38:02 AM
I haven't used it, but I'm pretty sure swapping coins<->coins using atomic wallet is going to be bad in terms of fees and slippage.

Outside of the typical centralized exchange, you can try out ChainFlip and ThorSwap. I have personally used both with no problem. Just check which is better in terms of fees.
