American brands such as the Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds are quite popular in Russia. So I really doubt how much successful this boycott will be in the major cities of Russia.

It opens new business opportunities for Russian companies: Stalingrad Fried Chicken  Wink

and gorbachev chicken chops. but yeah, russians boycotting coca cola isn't going to do shit.. and no one over here cares, except for coca cola. maybe they'll come up with their own red army soda. i wouldn't be surprised if putin on a horse were the logo  Cheesy

They already do. They make an abysmally bad knock off of a traditional Russian drink - Kvas - and sell it under that label!

Kvass is tasty and I like to buy mine at the Deli but that's unfortunately the only place to get it, and it's a hassle.  $6 for 2 litre bottle but I can get 2L Coa Cola for $.99 cent when it's on special.

Ironically I am almost certain rye bread is cheaper than sugar but meh.

No, these would be unaffected by a hypothetical ban.    Those companies are a component to a regional company and they likely source most of their ingredients from within Russia.  Maybe the Colonel's Secret Spices could be banned, though.   Grin

A hypothetical ban would affect

Raw Products (Grain / Fruit / Meats)
Liquors (American Whiskey / Scotch is a luxury item across the world)
American tobacco products
American chocolates / candies (unless made in Europe)
2604  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russians boycotting US food industry. on: May 22, 2014, 07:02:42 PM
What food does Russia import from US anyway?  Not counting raw products (grain / fruit), I imagine it's all imported luxury items which only the Middle Upper Class can afford.

WW2 - fought to contain Germany and prevent them from conquering Europe. . .

2014 - Germany has conquered Europe.  Germany they get 100% access to all the 'colonies' (EU) and also get the best and talented of the Eastern Bloc and Iberia.  Germany gets all the Arbeiters (Slave workers) they want from Europe and Generalplan Ost also happens too (Germany assimilating Slavic and other European migrants)   Like in Lebensraum plans, Germany products face no competition in Eastern Europe and German firms get 100% access to natural resources and agricultural lands in the east.

Germans also had sexual slavery during the war - contemporary times, who knows how many sex slaves there are in German brothels.

Looks like Nazism won WW2 to me.  If you looked at Nazi Germany, the radicals were only a small percentage anyway, so the results would had been the same had they won it back in 1945 (instead of winning it when the EU treaty was signed)

Cold War - It is claimed that 'Communism lost' but future historians will regard the Cold War as having been won by China, not the USA.  USA is dying while China is poised to supplant it.

Curfew after 10 PM?

Looks like the nightlife and tourism economy is going to take a hit.
2607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: May 22, 2014, 01:00:32 AM
Fellow NEMers, anyone have an opinion on NXT Lite? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=590421 Their IPO is ending soon, should I take a chance or is it a scam?

Their are better projects to put your money in. No one will tell you them because they are waiting for the projects to be released. Once they are released they will start promoting them like crazy and by that time it is too late to make big profits. That's all I can say.

NXTL also seems like it has a probable huge number of sock puppets, something which people raised issue over but nothing was really done about it,

Are there better projects?  Honestly hard to say, I read the ANN section all the time and don't really see any.  Most of the alts coming out are still first generation $hitclones
2608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 200k USD to invest? on: May 22, 2014, 12:56:52 AM
I would avoid throwing money at NXT.  It still hasn't recovered to the capitalization it had back in January / February, largely due to the public being aware of the scam-like distribution.   Anything NxT has isn't proprietary (patented) either so it's generally a bad investment as other coins will take on their best ideas.  The only thing investible in cryptos is community, it's the reason why a $hitclone like Doge is worth more than NxT, Counterpart and Mastercoin.

Not sure if it would merit a full $200K investment but, if I were you, I would try to buy two shares of NEM at the upcoming auction and then at launch purchase more of it.
2609  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Putin sells GAS to china on: May 22, 2014, 12:03:24 AM
Gas prices in China and Japan are way higher than they are in Europe.  Russia was effectively giving away charity to Europe for several decades in return for capital investment, lessening up on visas, et cetera - but it seems like relationship is dead now due to the Ukraine thing.

European gas bills are slowly going to be hiked up minimum 3 times within the next 10 years, so there isn't protests on the streets when Europeans have to pay international rates for natural gas.

Europeans will have to get used to wearing coats indoors, less they want to return to coal or frack more in Romania.
2610  Economy / Economics / Re: Collapse or dollar= collapse of Rome= armagedon, but WHY!? on: May 21, 2014, 11:58:49 PM
If Rome Collapse - then it didn't occur to the people who lived through it ~ historians regard the 'collapse' of Rome as having lasted 300+ years at a time when the life expectancy was in the 30s to 40s and after the collapse did occur general nutrition and living standards actually improved.

Rome itself didn't disappear - people continued to live within Rome itself and the 'Roman Empire' technically got bigger, if we regard the Roman Catholic Church as being the proper continuation of the Empire.

True collapses rarely occur in history - they're more like fades into obscurity and often whimpers at that.

Maybe the one exception was the Soviet Union where the collapse was almost instantaneous to the American perspective, although the Soviet people themselves were well evident it was a dying institution at best.
2611  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Denver Murder Rate Cut in Half After Marijuana Legalization. Coincidence? on: May 21, 2014, 05:57:57 PM
Maybe weed is most common drug, legalie it and then the gangs largely dissolve due to less business?

Not only are there gang wars but gang initiation.  Some gangs initiate their members by telling them to kill a stranger or w/e.

Pyschologically, gang members are trained / have confidence to ignore the law.  Take away the gangs and you're stuck with normal kids

There's like 300 coins now and they're technically all better but Bitcoin remains king.

A Russian billionaire has been ordered to pay more than 4bn Swiss francs (£2.7bn; $4.5bn) to his ex-wife to settle a six-year divorce battle. The Geneva court's verdict means Dmitry Rybolovlev, the owner of French football team AS Monaco, will lose around half of his estimated fortune.

His net worth is estimated at $8.8 billion right now, and this settlement means that his wife will be richer than him and he loses the custody of his younger daughter. Would like to hear opinions from others.

If you are a man and value your wealth getting married is insanely dangerous... we live in a world were we are always wrong.. always.  Don't get married with out a rock solid pre-nub.

They're pretty solid.

Tom Leykis been married 3 times and hasn't paid a dollar to any of them.  They hold up as long as they're written by a lawyer and her lawyer views it and explains it to her (to remove any: "I signed under duress" claims)

Marriage with prenuptial is safer than cohabitation agreements as the latter hasn't been tested as much in court

Like with most things geeky, it is usually predominantly male. I wonder about Facebook though (due to all the gossiping of course) LOL

Facebook prototype wasn't Facebook but posting pictures of female classmates and rating them, IIRC.
2616  Other / Off-topic / Re: Most expensive divorce settlement ever: $4.5 billion on: May 21, 2014, 02:21:00 PM
Gold digger got what she wanted, on the other hand if he had that much money he should've included that in the marriage contract. So either he didn't - in which case he must've known earlier that in case of a divorce they split the money in half, or he earned the whole amount while being with her.

There was almost no family law in 1980s Russian.  Most of the FSU still doesn't recognize what a prenuptial is

Russian women look good but they only dress up for oligarchs and English / Germans staggers with first world money.  Sucks more to be a man in the FSU
2617  Other / Off-topic / Re: IF YOU HAD 1,000,000 DOLLARS WHAT WOULD YOU BUY??? on: May 21, 2014, 01:56:04 PM
I'd buy either the Fossil Canyon Ranch or the Wickiup Creek Ranch.

The Fossil Canyon Ranch costs $950,000. 944 ± deeded acres.

The Wickiup Creek Ranch costs $699,000. 637 ± deeded acres.

'Murica.  I would be a Christian if I lived in your paradise.

I would only get 30 acres in a desolate valley here, on a property which has been uninhabitated for decades and is owned by god knows who. .  Probably some rich old German broad with Nazi gold (serious - they bought mountain ranches all over the Americas).

2618  Other / Off-topic / Re: Most expensive divorce settlement ever: $4.5 billion on: May 21, 2014, 01:52:18 PM
That's outrageous! If she didn't contribute to wealth she deserves nothing.

On the other hand: Why should a billionaire marry at all? There's no real benefit just a high risk to be ripped of.

ya.ya.yo!

It's mostly an image thing. A lot of the time, they want a pretty young thing hanging on their arm. The rich people I actually like are the ones who can go backpacking anonymously and talk to ordinary people while doing it and not be all, "Look at me, I'm Bill Gates."

Yes, but billionaires can pay for a whole group of high-class hookers 24-hour all day. Even that would be a lot cheaper than to marry a gold digger that takes away half of your whole fortune. A marriage makes absolutely no sense if you're that rich.

ya.ya.yo!

They don't know.  Stock prices and their equity is dependent on public image and stability.Too much risk in organizing escort orgies.  Sexual affairs (including with hookers) have ruined businessmen and politicians for centuries

Not all of us live in Guatemala, OP.  Million bucks here wouldn't even buy you a moldy two bedroom crackshack.  Overpriced non-American First world FTW.
