I'm going to rudely butt in here and say that I think this discussion is very important for Darkcoin right now.
I am a masternode owner. I therefore pay to have servers that perform a service at a cost to me. To pay for that cost, I occasionally get 20% of a mined block. Now that we have RC5, my masternodes cover costs and make a small profit. Right now, electricity prices are so high in most places in the world that mining is becoming a decreasingly viable venture. We need miners to mine (the more the better!), the network needs masternode (the more the better!). If we can make mining more profitable by refining the algo for the miners then it is a win win situation.
As a miner I agree, However I read here somewhere of some idea or concept of getting rid of the need for DRK miners as the master nodes could be allocated the job in some way !! I wouldn't worry about idle speculation. If anything I get the feeling that the popular consensus is that the masternodes and the miners need each other just as much. Absolutely. There will always be people in both extremes, but Darkcoin needs miners and masternodes. All changes will be done with Darkcoin's best interest in mind, not to favour any particular group. If we do this right, the pie to distribute will be much bigger and all parties will be happy. Fernando, please see my conversation with you on DCT! EDIT: I saw you already have! Have you ever heard the phrase "buy the rumour, sell the news" ? Well we're now at the "news" bit. EDIT: But there's going to be a reprieve now because the 15 min MACD just punched sharply through signal line to the upside and the decline's been on barely discernible volume anyway - apart from about 10,000 DRK which got offloaded a couple of hours ago (that might've been shojayxt's 'toys' flying past actually). Don't worry, just get used to it. If you had been a long term NxT holder like me you'd easily go 2 weeks in a dinghy in a typhoon without a hint of sea-sickness. |

This is fascinating. The little rusty gears in my head are churning at full speed. It's a workable plan, but heavy-handed... It leaves me confused about enforcement... If manipulating the coin reward is treated so flippantly, but actually getting those rewards we treat with kid gloves... We're messing with the fundamentals of coin creation and supply way, way too much here. Sure, it'd probably work, but I think effort should be put into finding a better way. I think that simply decreasing the number of coins needed to run a MN would be a much better way to get more of them. If it only takes 700 DRK instead of 1000, people can still lock away the same amount of DRK that they want into MNs, there's just more of them in a direct and controllable proportion. Why hunt for equilibrium by tampering with the coin supply, when you can very predictably increase MN count by observing current MN count, look at desired MN count, and divide by N. No screwing around with the coin supply needed, nobody can troll about a tax, and you know exactly what you're getting... Both from the dev side and the MN operator side... Predictable, simple, get what you want without dicking around with coin supply... Tell me where I'm wrong? The Masternode network can be thought of as the Darkcoin amount it takes to subvert the network. Decreasing the amount of coins required for a Masternode to operate does increase the number of Masternodes, but it also maintains the same level of security. For example, if you change the rule to 100DRK per Masternode, we'll end up with 5x-10x more masternodes but the cost of a sybil attack will actually remain the same or even decrease. This is the consensus we are seeming to reach on DCT... |

Am I missing something here? Why is Darkcoin the only coin in the top 10 to have dropped significantly over the last 24 hours? Over 5% lost.
You have all these great announcements and features (anonymous sending, open source, instant transactions) and yet the price just either stays the same or goes down.
The volume on fucking Dogecoin (that as far as I can tell offers jack shit) was 6x Darkcoin in the last 24 hours. It's like a bad joke. The market cap too is looking like it will drop below Namecoin.
Before any calls me a "troll" or "hater" (I hate people who do that), you should know I own a pretty significant number of Darkcoins and have for a while. It's the only coin I own aside from Bitcoin, because I believe in the principle of an anonymous currency and I like how Darkcoin has been developed. But what the hell? You have HUGE developments and virtually zero price movement or greater adoption.
I think it's time to face reality... Darkcoin seems unable to break out of a small core group of believers. Something obviously needs to give
Oh, the price issue AGAIN? The open-source era is just beginning. The average person can't do much with Darkcoin right now, and that reflects in the price. Build the Darkness (infrastructure) so Darkcoin is truly useful in a real-world sense, and then the next step will be adoption, and the slow growth that comes with it. Do you realize that the entire Darkcoin marketcap couldn't even pay Alex Rodriguez's salary for a year? Think about that for a second. I don't think people have any inkling about how huge, massive, and titanic this project has the potential to be, IN TIME. If you don't have the patience, get out and sell your coins. Bitcoin's problem is that it is getting tons of corporate adoption, but relatively few client (average person) adoption. This lack of demand reflects the price in a negative way. Use your price-worrying energy to sing the praises of Darkcoin to anyone you encounter, every day, all day. Start a twitter or facebook page, get people in to the Dark! This is the only way our investment will succeed. If you decide to stick it out, put your coins away, use them when it is easier to, and come back in 5-10 years and see where you're at. I don't usually swear, but for fuck sakes, stop worring about today's price, and think about the bigger picture! /rant |

What do we know about DRKLord's situation? Anything we can do to help?
Last I heard, he was having health issues but he hasn't even logged into his accounts since mid-August. Apparently, Evan couldn't even get a hold of him so it looks like we don't have much choice but to find another QT developer. I talked with evan this morning about that QT/C++ issue, there is a good plan in motion, he is on it and we will update regarding that soon .....> Time to get that wallet (and everything else) on the road .....> Edit: hope DRKLord is ok though ! I think the Dev I recruited on Twitter got a hold of him. That's what he told me (the Dev, not Evan).... |
