2621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin developers will NEVER fork to reverse transactions from theft on: June 28, 2016, 12:58:18 AM
I'm a miner and I support the litecoin network. Ethereum and theDOA is a business, these are shares, not a currency, this should be clear. By definition a business is centralized in its interests. Litecoin has dudes working for free to propagate satoshis vision.

This is why ltc is my main alt to go to, when I hold alts. It's the closest, project vision wise, to btc, and has been about as stable in development and acceptance. It's solid, it's been here, and I never have issues transferring ltc between exchanges, which I can't always say for my old pal btc.
2622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is now getting negative coverage in the mainstream media on: June 28, 2016, 12:55:02 AM
Someone must be in it so deep he can't exit anymore and the only thing left to the trappd pumper is to support the price and hope for the best.
No other way to explain this hasn't dropped below ico-price yet.
He'll run out of money eventually thanks to the high inflation. Hope he'll be okay once he gets roasted.

Amen! Every time I check the ticket on this I'm like "wtf?!" Something is propping the price of this asset up, it isn't even correlating with the news on Reddit anymore. Price was tracking with public confidence in the "DAO Wars".

Science fiction.
2623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it a sin to gamble? on: June 27, 2016, 04:21:27 PM
It is the intention behind the gambling that dictates this. If you are gambling out of desperation or to excess, that is a lack of faith and respect for the Creator. Gambling small amounts for fun, however, is not wasteful of disrespectful, it's simply a way that passes the time that doesn't really harm anyone. Foolishly throwing away the resources the Lord has given to you doesn't seem like that would be high up on His thank you list.
2624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin have lost more than $100 in a day... on: June 21, 2016, 02:27:56 PM
Looks normal to me. Speculators drive up the price then sell off when they fear a dip. No mystery here.

Yezzir, it always seems to recede a little  when we make some solid progress. I think we still have some more upward progress to achieve, but the uneducated fear selling in this market is the only reason why btc is so volatile ATM.

I also think the DAO has shaken general trust in cryptos. Most people aren't savvy, they just lump all coins and related techs into a single basket.
2625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cyber Crime on: June 20, 2016, 06:55:48 PM
What is Bitcoin cyber  crime and how to stop it?

Crime involving Bitcoin on the internet. I could give a better explanation but I'd be wasting breath.
2626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people use/hold bitcoin in 2016 on: June 20, 2016, 06:54:37 PM
I would say that the amount of people that use Bitcoin probably numbers among 1-2 million total, and yes, we do have a long way to go.

The thing is Bitcoin, as it is right now, is still too technical for a lot of people, and a lot of the things we find obvious or easy simply aren't easy or simple to a majority of other people. I know it sounds dumb, but that's how it is.

My theory is assume that 25% of /r/bitcoin users also use this board, and assume this board is ~30%-45% representative of the total population of Bitcoin (e.i. user number multiplied by ~0.75 to account for multiple accounts) and then assume it counts for ~40% of the entire count of users, multiply the numbers and get your answer.

I also pulled that theory out of my ass so no guarantee is means shit.

But it was a good theory  Grin agree with this, alot of exchange users don't use the forum, and there are also coinbase users that don't even know this forum exists. Basically, given the difficulties of Bitcoin for the average user, there are a lot of users that use the protocol without actually being involved in the ecosystem. Via hosted wallet services.
2627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to get Bitcoin inside North Korea? on: June 20, 2016, 06:48:17 PM
I wouldn't play with this. Political commentary aside, NK is one of the more sophisticated state actors when it comes to internet technologies. You have to be in order to pull of some of the madness that's going on over there at the moment, to shield it from the greater public. Is it really worth it?

The danger of breaking a law that will actually be enforced, and with malice, is too much imo.
2628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Bad for the environment, taking the worlds energy - yes? on: June 20, 2016, 06:45:53 PM
What ever happened to that new bitcoin mining technology in India that was supposed to reduce time and power solving blocks? I don't remember the specifics, it made more educated guesses is what I remember gleaning from the article. Was coindesk or one of those.
2629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: smart contract systems need to come with a smart lawyer system on: June 20, 2016, 08:33:01 AM
This is off topic, but good time to bring up the fact all contracts need an 'oracle"' to report binary options to the block chain, so the contract know which condition is met (the Ethereum block chain can't watch the playoffs, someone human will have to report the outcome to the smart contract in order for it to pay gambling winners, for example). Humans are notoriously easy to subvert/bribe, we will be right back here all over again one day Grin
2630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik and Tual going to end up in jail? on: June 20, 2016, 08:20:54 AM
If the "attacker" exposes him/herself and he/she is in the US as he said in the open letter, I think he could be sent to prison for the hacking with bad intent.

I think a decent lawyer could fight that, as the code was supposed to be "golden", this is a feature Grin now, despite the bug being openly disclosed, I still think the SEC might have something to say about that massive short. They will poke around at least.
2631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should Ethereum and DAO be bought now? on: June 20, 2016, 08:15:17 AM
ETH will most likely go up after BTC halving. don't purchase before that unless you want to kill your profit.

Amen! Btc uptrends still tend the indicate alt downtrends. Until all this fork bullshit and the halving is done, you most likely aren't going to be buying the cheapest eth you could have. Basically, price is in the air til next month IMO.
2632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exactly 1 day before the Bitcoin Halvening I am dumping all BTC into ETH on: June 20, 2016, 08:12:08 AM
As title.

 Huh

You have some insider info? Because all signs point to this not being a winning strategy.

You already have the bitcoin, just keep holding them, dammit.

You have one job, we are all counting on you soldier.
2633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There is nothing funny in The DAO "attack" on: June 20, 2016, 08:09:07 AM
I agree, there isn't anything funny about this whole situation

Let me tell you why it's funny.  If you ever click the speculation forum, there are full-time, paid, anti-bitcoin shills.  Accounts like alias "lambchop" have created literally over 500 spam accounts that just post all day long saying "Bitcoin is going to die.  Bitcoin ponzi scheme is over.  Blah blah blah".  These same shills (who probably work for people like Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan) were also spamming "Ethereum is the new Bitcoin" at the same time.

The banker shills took this one right up the ass.  They bought a bunch of Ethereum IPO scamtokens and got raped.  How do you think this piece of shit Ethereum got to a billion market cap while being a scam?  Bankers were bankrolling it.  So for all Eth shills, I salute you:

That lambchop dude still exists? Shit! He was going strong like 2 years ago, around neobees. I swear someone had to be paying that guy, no one has that much time to type forum responses unless they are getting paid. There just isn't a troll spirit bright enough to do all that talking for lulz. There HAD to be profit motive.

Maybe bitcoin killed his family when he was a child.. Sad
2634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DAO raised ~$150M!! WTF is wrong with you people? on: June 20, 2016, 08:03:12 AM

Good point, thanks.
I should show more compassion for those who lost money:

Nah, they had this coming. If you did the diligence on the DAO in any meaningful way, there was no way you could not see the myriad people screaming "be careful"

Which leads to the answer for the question the thread's title presents. This is because of uneducated investors, children to speak plainly, being allowed to throw money at something they think will "go to the moon". The fact that we have so much leet/nerdspeak in our crypto terminology should speak to the perspective and maturity of the average investor in this space Smiley this is why the SEC exists, to protect investors from themselves as much as from the " wolves abroad".
2635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There was no DAO hack on: June 20, 2016, 07:51:20 AM
Maybe it is just all PR

The craziest conspiracy theory is the whales did this on purpose not just to profit by shorting and repurchasing cheaper, but also to create a massive amount of promotion for The DAO.

The any promotion is good promotion school of marketing.

$50 ETH here we come? (note it could also crash to $1 so please don't think I am offering any advice)

Normally it is best to buy when there is "blood in the streets". Ethereum isn't likely dead. So far, CC is a delusion of decentralization any way.

The ETH chart is looking very similar to BTC's 2013/14 crash.

Note after an extended deadcat bounce, then BTC proceeded to make lower lows and eventually found bottom @150ish.

Give this man a cookie. The enthusiast are still convinced this is the " bottom", we will certainly see Grin
2636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There is nothing funny in The DAO "attack" on: June 20, 2016, 07:42:30 AM
I don't think it's funny, it's savvy. A coder found an exploit and took advantage of it. Let's stop this good samaritan bullshit, if you had 3M ether you would travel, do anything you wanted really. You wouldn't have an aristocratic sense to return it, lol.

I would return them...

You are a good one Smiley I'm Christian, and they might have gotten some of them back. Not all. A lesson needs to be learned here, by everyone involved in this DAO business.
2637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum or bitcoin? on: June 19, 2016, 07:08:56 PM
What do you prefer to earn?

Honestly, because the confidence in eth is so shaken, I would like to be paid in that with my value pegged to fiat. Earn it before the market bottoms out, on the way down. Eventually it will spike, and I feel there would be more upside that with btc, percentage wise. If it was significant value, I'd just choose bitcoin.
2638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Delusion on: June 19, 2016, 07:05:11 PM
In response to Kiklo (was too much to quote), the current price hike in btc is a legitimate response to the halving. And won't price out. I would think it would be gaining market share, ESP since the value from eth is trickling back into btc.
2639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should Ethereum and DAO be bought now? on: June 19, 2016, 06:57:30 PM
Extremely dangerous gamble in the short term , Bat shit crazy for long term investment

LOL. He's right; it will most likely go down a bit more as the unbelievable news keeps pouring in about this. This is literally the plot of a fucking science fiction novel. We just need an intergalactic council to arbitrate Smiley But on a serious note, sort term, it will be cheaper (eth) in the near future, and long-term, the same applies. Why buy now when you know it will most likely be cheaper soon? Until they make a solid decision about the forkage, the price is hanging by a thread. Remember, eth was hovering under 9 not too long before all this DAO madness. And not for that long.
2640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Analysis of the DAO exploit on: June 19, 2016, 06:47:42 PM
If anyone is interested in how exactly did the DAO attack take place, this is excellent reading material. It is a bit technical.

http://hackingdistributed.com/2016/06/18/analysis-of-the-dao-exploit/

It will be great if we all just stopped caring about the DAO and focused our energy on something less dead.

But this is o so tasty at the moment, for those of us that called this sometime ago. But on a serious note, this is sound advice; besides being an interesting way to drive up my post count, we are giving this too much attention. It's like watching a ship sink with people on board, better maybe to walk away.
