2621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][QBC] Québecoin - A currency for the Québec nation - X11 - DGW – IPO on: April 01, 2014, 11:03:25 PM
I hope you take this as constructive criticism --

First off, why does Quebec need its own crypto?

One can argue that the majority of nation coins don't need their own crypto, but at least they can come up with some semi-valid reasons. Maza ... govt. interference with bitcoin ... Aurora... the same ... that Dutch coin can play the sentimentality card. Even Greece coin can pretend they are helping those in poverty (which they really aren't, but it's an angle to play). I don't get why Quebec needs or would benefit from its own crypto, to be honest.

Now, if you said you had a dozen merchants willing to accept the coin, and more lined up. And some sort govt. approval, or some official body supporting the coin, then I'd say the coin at least could serve a purpose. Not that it's really needed still, but there would be a point to the coin.

X11 + Dark gravity wave are nice additions, but why wouldn't people just invest with the dev who created them to begin with (Dark Coin)? I'm a supporter of that coin, and most of my miniscule coin portfolio is in Dark Coin, but I am not sure what benefit your coin would have over it. I mean, if you promote those features, wouldn't people just be better off buying the coin from the dev who created those features?

A lot of new coins don't serve much of a purpose, nor have merchants lined up, or have benefits right away over any other coin -- so it's not like it's mandatory to announce those things right away. But most new coins don't do the IPO thing either, and besides nation coins, don't have a 50% premine.

You need to give people a valid reason for the coin existing, info on how it will be used, and then get the coin into the hands of those who will use it locally. I think your timetable is off (as mentioned earlier) and really don't think the IPO idea will be worth it, but that is of course up to you.

Got it. Thanks.
In fact, China is the least impacted by the 2008 economic downturn.

It is a shame to repeat this scam again again and again, and still think some newbies are going be scammed.

If a joke, nobody will be harmed.

If not a joke, all we have to do is point out the fact the devs copied the Greececoin description, so either are the same devs churning out junk nation coins, or they like to steal other people's work. Either way, I don't think any sane person would invest in this.
2623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE][ANN] MandarinCoin (MAC)- A coin for China - Launch 6pm Est Time april 1st on: April 01, 2014, 09:22:11 PM

You claimed in 2008, China was "worst hit countries it was believed " , are you sure about it?
Where did you find this from?

Check out earlier in the thread. I posted the Greece Coin ann as a comparison ... same wording.

All they did was copy what was said in the first paragraph of Greece Coin's announcement, and changed Greece to China. That is why it says what it does.

That's also why I assume this is just an April Fool's joke.

As otherwise, they are just extremely lazy devs churning out coins, nation by nation. Or plagiarizing. Right now, I'd vote for joke.
2624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Death Of Cryptorush.in on: April 01, 2014, 09:11:14 PM
Damn it...I still have some BTC left there.
Which is the best altcoin to buy and transfer from cryptorush now?
Lets hope it comes back somehow.

Not sure if anything is left, without taking a big loss. The bones have been picked clean.

Last night I checked the site again and realized I forgot and left some crumbs behind. I ended up picking something called 888 ... which I was able to sell on Bittrex for about what I paid. Check out weird coins like that, if any are left, and maybe you can take just a minor loss. Look at small exchanges (bittrex, atomic trade, sci-fi exchange) as to where to try to sell whatever oddball coin you get.

keep questions coming.

Will you announce this is an April's Fool joke when the countdown timer hits, or tomorrow?
2626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: April 01, 2014, 07:32:06 AM
no and repeating yourself doesn't make it any more true either..
....

Thanks for bumping the topic and attacking me personally again (and avoiding any on-topic reply in the slightest)

I simply posted that people in the ann subforum tend to troll coins, rather than educate. Whether you feel it's true or not, that's up to you. It's hardly a startling revelation. The point I was making, originally (in a post that didn't even involve you, or bring you up at all) was that I am all for educating people against scams/shitcoins, but rather than troll people, it'd be more effective to state arguments rationally.

I repeated this, because you evidently did not take away that same message (and you asked for an example, so it's on-topic). For some odd reason you act like it was an attack on you -- only way it would be, is if you troll in that subforum under a different name. Beats me if you do or not.

And, again, I meant the comments about your posting style as constructive criticism. I am hardly the first person to comment on your grammar or posting style. Nobody is perfect, but maybe write in paragraphs? Maybe try not to insult people in every other post? One guy above simply asked for an update, and you went into troll mode on him.
2627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][QBC] Québecoin - A currency for the Québec nation - X11 - DGW – IPO on: April 01, 2014, 07:19:46 AM

One last thing - Québecoin is the best nation coin in existence on a technical level. The features are cutting edge and it will be a great coin to mine at release.

The maple syrup is really just an extra, I'm not in the maple business!

Keep in mind that the nation thing probably will work against you at this point. The market has become over-saturated and people are tired of seeing country coins.

Again, IPO + Nation coin = bad idea. At least in my opinion, anyway. As for the maple syrup, just suggested it, as... well, even if a scam, maybe people would like the maple syrup at cost.  Cheesy

2628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE][ANN] MandarinCoin (MAC)- A coin for China - Launch 6pm Est Time april 1st on: April 01, 2014, 06:48:37 AM
I'm not even sure this is a scam, seems more like trolling. Launch on April 1st aka April Fool's Day...

I wondered that too. A joke makes more sense than this being real. Although then again, I could say that about a ton of coins here.

2629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][QBC] Québecoin - A currency for the Québec nation - X11 - DGW – IPO on: April 01, 2014, 06:40:09 AM
If you are serious about the coin, which I assume you are, I offer a couple of suggestions:

Space out the airdrop, but provide some coins to Quebecers relatively soon. I'd say provide some coins within a month or two, then space it out every 6 months or so (until premine is gone). Arrange for some coins to go to local merchants, so long as they agree to take the coins back as payment for merchandise (or at least some merchandise).

Personally I think you may be a bit optimistic as far as public attention goes. Two years from now, I expect many existing cyrptos to be dead. By the time the first airdrop is supposed to occur, the coin may not even be around anymore.

I also think you should drop the IPO. It probably will cause more problems than it's worth. IPO pretty much spells scam to most people here, and then you include nation coin + premine... let's just say you'd do better without the IPO. Or at most, sell that maple syrup at close to cost, along with coins.
2630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE][ANN] MandarinCoin (MAC)- A coin for China - 6pm Est Time Launch april 1st on: April 01, 2014, 05:38:08 AM

That is a basic format that most people follow. And if you get some concrete evidence that we're tied to any other country coin feel free to share it but that might be hard to come by because we're not. Thank you for your time Mr. text analyzer.

The basic format most nation coins use is the same exact wording, for every single nation? Either you just stole Greece Coin's exact text, which is plagiarism, or are the same devs making multiple coins -- neither option is so great.

Mandarin Coin is arriving soon to provide a new innovative crypto currency for citizens of China. This new currency will bring confidence and belief back to the people of China so that they can continue to prosper in our so ever changing world. In the year of 2008 when the global recession occurred, China was one of the worst hit countries it was believed to have been caused  by a combination of structural weaknesses of the China economy along with a many year long pre-existence of deficitits and debt.

In the year of 2008 when the global recession occurred, Greece was one of the worst hit countries and it was believed to have been caused  by a combination of structural weaknesses of the Greek economy along with a decade long pre-existence of overly high structural deficits and debt-to-GDP levels on public accounts.

Look familiar to anyone? They used the same announcement for both coins. AP/Boxxa has been linked to Greececoin, via a thread here saying they ripped the idea off from HellasCoin. They also made Maza and MapleCoin. And Australia coin looks similar in text formatting too.

So, question for devs ... are you basically just going country by country? You'd think you would at least change the opening paragraph when describing the coin.

Overlooking the IPO, which in my opinion is a pretty horrible idea, something else I found peculiar --

Quote
We will wait until the end of the mining period in approximately 10 years to give each Québecer his share of QBC.

Umm... 10 years? Is that a typo? Did you mean 1 year?

Slow distribution does make some sense, but 10 years is insane.
2633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I win and always do becuase i am smarter scammers ;) on: April 01, 2014, 03:53:20 AM

@poornamelessme
show me one crazy argument..
any of the ones i posted against scam coins have been very rational and thoughtful i think.
your game and your diversion is not working.. feel free to counter and address any assertion i have made ..if you have the balls that is Wink

the only crazy replies i see is from people like you and memescamscoin who think you have the right to scam people and rip them off.

PS: You don't.

I think you misread or misunderstood what I wrote. I said people writing in the ann subforum, speaking out against coins quite often post in a trolling manner. There are plenty of samples there. I didn't say you posted there, as I have no idea if you have.

As for examples:
Pick a random nation coin in the ann subforum  and you'll find someone just screaming scam over and over... it just produces noise. A more rational argument would work a lot better, in my opinion.

I do find it peculiar that anytime someone posts something negative against this group, you say they are scamming someone. I never made a coin, don't particularly think most nation/meme coins are a good idea (and have so), don't go around recommending coins to anyone... so it is a bit difficult for me to scam or cheat anyone.

As for what you have posted, in general, you will probably take this as an insult, although no insult meant --

If you are on amphetamines, you may wish to cut down/stop while posting. A great deal of your posts read like someone who is on something. Many of your posts are sort of a rambling, semi-coherent freeform type of trolling, not bound to any rules of grammar or logic. Yes, you can make coherent points, but they get buried beneath insults. So even though I half expect you to follow up with with one of your trolling types of responses, I hope you reconsider how you write. My first thought when I read one of your posts is that you must be around 14-15 years old, on drugs, and/or have an emotional problem.
2634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: April 01, 2014, 02:47:31 AM
What price target do you have planned for the coin?

And again, any HK merchants approached about accepting the coin, either locally or online?
2635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: April 01, 2014, 01:05:46 AM

Edit: if someone is here really concerned about other people, I suggest posting in the [ANN] subforum and alert/educate the ones that invest into IPO's/premine/scams, instead of fueling this flamefest.

This is the way people should go.

But there seems to be two problems. First off, the point to this group has little to do with cleaning out shitcoins. Otherwise, the threadstarter wouldn't have made his own shitcoins, supporters wouldn't have made shitcoins, and they would use a rational way of defining what a shitcoin/scam is.

But if we ignore that little fact, there is another problem.

While some people do go to the ann subforum and alert people,  that instead of rationality describing why a coin is scam or bad investment, they go into insane troll mode. They just yell out SCAM over and over. They attack any supporters with crazy arguments, when regular discussion would suffice. Their noise overwhelms real concerns, so I think in many cases people just ignore them.  Rather than educate, they mostly just annoy people.

When an exchange adds a feature to short cryptos the lies and fud will grow tenfold.

The way people behave now, it's almost like they can already short them.

I really hope they never do add the ability, as it'll really be the wild west then. And I don't mean in the forum, but teams trying to ddos pools/fork/destroy coins even more than they are already trying. It'd end up with a situation where no sane person would want to put any money into cryptos at all.

Following the deletion of my message by the scammer (BCX)

I have created a scam accusation thread in corresponding forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=551875.0

One of my posts was deleted in one of his self-moderated threads, as well. Although BCX claimed he didn't delete it, and let me repost. He's actually been pretty good with allowing most comments in his threads ... although I guess he might draw the line at people calling him a scammer, I guess.

As for this forum, when I first started here, I assumed it was like any other forum. Quickly I found that not to be the case. Forum moderation is close to nil.

So we get tons of trolling, fud, false information, shill accounts, etc. And I expect it won't be fixed, as this little alt section is looked down upon by whomever owns this forum. It's a weird situation, especially for those new here. I just sort of take it for what it is... more or less a hunt for real info, while trying to ignore all the garbage.

2638  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: March 31, 2014, 07:26:14 PM
AUR set out to scam a whole nation of innocents, using them as poster-children to motivate scamming money out of foreigners into this scam.

So I guess it is a particularly eggregious scam, not only targetting altcoin insiders like the members of forums such as this one who should know better thus maybe could be said to be deliberately participating in something they knew to be a scam, hoping to rake in some of the profits of the scam as fellow scammers promoting the scam (and thus maybe to have only themselves to blame if they made a loss instead of a profit) but also targetting a whole nation of innocents and heavily involving the press in promoting the scam and encouraging innocents to fall for it.

If the fact that the gravity well was broken was already established, and someone had already came up with a fix for it, going ahead and adding the gravity well to this coin seems a kind of weird move for a developer to make, doesn't it? Like huh why deliberately add broken-ness?

-MarkM-

I am not sure if I have read a post with the word 'scam' used so many times. Just repeating the same word over and over doesn't make it true. It's almost like these threads read like someone shorting stock.

I view the coin more as an experiment than a scam. Yeah, the dev could steal the premine (although no evidence shows he has), and the coin could fall apart and be worth nothing. Or they might actually adopt and support it. We shall see. Many of the same arguments against AUR could be used for BTC, when it was new -- well, besides the part about giving lots of it away.

I will also add that I own no AUR, never owned any, nor even think nation coins are a particularly great idea. It just seems weird to me to see how much FUD being spread about.

As for the gravity well, again, I am not an expert, nor know what the dev has actually done there. I just find it odd that other coins use it too, yet haven't been singled out like AUR has been.
2639  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: March 31, 2014, 07:10:39 PM
Also that the coin is supposedly more insecure than just the normal vulnerability to over-fifty-percent attacks, due to using the gravity well thing that supposedly creates extra vulnerability that causes the chain to need significantly more hashing power than the attacker to resist the attack that gravity well thing makes possible?

-MarkM-

Hmm... okay, again apologies in advance if I say something stupid, as I am hardly an expert on coin attacks.

But wouldn't this same vulnerability occur with most other coins using the gravity well? So why was AUR chosen as the one to attack, or the one to focus on?

Didn't DarkCoin's dev come up with sort of a solution to the gravity well exploit and opensource it? I assumed they did, or were working on it.
2640  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: March 31, 2014, 06:56:37 PM
Apologies if I am asking stuff that has been spelled out, but I stopped reading this thread like 20 pages back. Is the following more or less a brief synopsis of what occurred?

BCX claimed the coin was attacked, and forked to death.
In reality, all that occurred what the planned fork took place at 5400, the one the dev announced previously?
BCX claims he is instituting a time warp attack, although there is no current evidence to support it.

Argument changed, so now the fault with the coin is no longer that the airdrop will fail, dev automatically will steal premine... to the coin is insecure since it's new and lack of miners... so let's try to kill the coin before they can secure it?
