2621  Economy / Economics / Re: "Looks as if #Bitcoin is eating #Gold". Good idea to buy some Gold now? on: February 19, 2021, 10:21:04 AM
Tbh I prefer platinum but gold has a value in history (and then less of a value if you drop murcury on it 😁).

Gold saw quite a dramatic bull run though. When I first looked at buying some I think 100g in 2015 was a lot lower.
It mightve been pushed up because of negative interest rates too (or no interest) and people needing a hedge.
Hard to find a market for platinum and street value isn't really known in my country but gold and silver are some of the big ones in my country. I think that this is an opportunity to buy gold now that its bull run is over the prices is slumping back, the prices will definitely go up someday and I think that anyone who passes the opportunity to buy one now is a fool.
2622  Economy / Economics / Re: Citi Can’t Have Its $900 Million Back on: February 19, 2021, 09:02:07 AM
Seriously though, this does give a peek into the complexity and outdated-ness of the softwares that run world finance. Its funny how the bloomberg chat ultimately worked to the benefit of Revlon. "No jokes for one whole day". LOL
That really depends, if the company is a private one, I think that it will be up to date but if it is in any way connected to government, it will have a problem being up to date. But you are right, their system is old, it's just packaged differently so people think that they are getting something new when it was the same thing. It was Citi's error if I may be honest, they did initiate the transaction and there should be some steps before they could send that amount of money to somewhere, Citi has to face the music even if it is not sang for them.
2623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lucky Bitcoiner on: February 19, 2021, 08:23:14 AM
I'm really not feeling comfortable flaunting your riches coming from crypto or bitcoin itself.

You can be a target from criminals and you don't know that you can be physically attack and force you to cough off your bitcoin address and the private keys. So for me, it's better to keep a low profile specially if you become a self made millionaire through bitcoin, just saying.
Nothing wrong that you are celebrating the rewards that you earned for all the hard work all this time. The only time that you will be a target for the criminals is when you directly say what you have and where your house is located. I do agree that being lowkey is good but you sometimes need to indulge yourself a little, not doing so is like punishing yourself over something you do not even know.
2624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Silk Road Film has been released - shows what happened on this forum 2 catch on: February 19, 2021, 07:38:14 AM
They are going for a theatre release rather than releasing it on the OTT platforms? I want to see how honest their depiction of Silk Road and DPR is. Perhaps they should mention that the real reason why the FBI went after Silk Road is because the Mexican drug cartels were losing money due to competition from the dark market.. or perhaps that is too much to ask for. I hope at least they would show what happened after the arrest, including some of the rogue FBI agents stealing BTC from the silk road wallet and transferring them to their personal wallets.
Where there any corroborating articles to support that claim because that is a pretty big conspiracy if there really is although I don't think that they will be putting conspiracy that makes FBI look bad to the public in a movie.

I don't know why I sense that bitcoin will be shown as an evil in this movie! Probably yes! Probably not! I can see only one mention of Bitcoin in the trailer but I really hope it doesn't show bitcoin in negative light. The trailer is already popular with 62k views but the problem is, bitcoin can be shown as an evil money which connected the dots with silk road and its customers.

Not good! Especially at this time when bitcoin has started generating a lot of interest among the corporates!
If it is Hollywood then your hopes will be for nothing, if it fits the narrative and it sells more tickets then bitcoin will be on whatever light they want it to be. I just hope that this movie will show the highlights of the story and make it follow what really happened as much as possible.
2625  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How did people buy bitcoin and other cryptos back in the old days? on: February 19, 2021, 06:58:10 AM
I started buying in late 2013 and there were major exchanges then, wasn't any harder than it is today. Was probably harder back in 2011. I think Mt Gox did the majority of the global volume back in 2011 so basically you'd just go use Mt Gox I'm guessing.
Mt Gox is the one that is always on the headline back then, being the biggest exchange and being always attacked by hackers, they sure do love the headlines. AFAIK people buy bitcoin the same as today, the only thing that changed is the exchanges that they used, you don't even have to buy because back then the problems to solve to mine blocks are far easier so if you want bitcoin back then, you just have to mine it in your computer.
2626  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam]: Fake 5000 BTC Airdrop - Chamath Palihapitiya on: February 19, 2021, 06:16:00 AM
I checked those bitcoin address:

https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1PFjPpBurRiz4BZY1RSQU8nv6zK5UJ7xBo - with 0.04610204 BTC

While the vanity address, https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1ChamathjZAYU66Ex4TgkKYbiESCCBeYTu - hasn't got any bitcoin yet. Although the first address has bitcoin on it, we can't be sure if they have victimised noobs already or it is their own bitcoin to make it more persuasive and think that it is indeed going to give back to those who are going to send. But this is obvious a trap and we do hope that no noobs are going to fall for this scheme.
Now that it is posted in this board, I think that there will be less noobs that are going to be a likely victim of this scam although that hope is riding on the fact that they are reading this or at least referring to this board whenever there is something like this land on their lap. To the noobs out there that are still having doubts that this is a scam, think of it, how it didn't come from the mouth of Chamath that he is giving away 5k bitcoin and it is not making headlines, he is a big deal venture capitalist and I think that when he says he is doing something like this, I think that it will create news.
2627  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Fake Chipmixer website on: February 19, 2021, 05:39:20 AM
The reason that it is around the first page of Google is because of SEO or something like that where they pay to be on the first page. This is the most legitimate looking spoof website that I have seen and I would've mistaken it for the real thing if it weren't for the domain name. To all newbies out there, before doing any transactions on a website, make sure that they are legitimate by looking at their domain name, those that doesn't end in .com or any legit domains most of the time are spoofed websites.
2628  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Damgam is phisher/scammer on: February 19, 2021, 04:57:53 AM
While it looks like Damagan is a scammer, this guy DreamerBT is also a scammer who has at least 6 different accounts on the forum. He probes almost all new currency exchangers looking for someone that can easily be scammed, but he will eagerly report other scammers in an attempt to make his account seem legitimate / trustworthy / etc. He has zero intention of completing any deal with anybody and is just looking for new suckers that he can scam through Telegram.

Because I am only 90% convinced they are the same person at this point (well, 95% now that he sent me the usual PM about my tag minutes afterward), I gave him a neutral tag.

I absolutely recommend everybody stay away from DreamerBT.
Too bad, a lot of people are supporting OP in this thread and now OP has alts for scamming too? This is like a movie plot twist, it hits you out of nowhere. I was reading through the replies while ignoring the negative trust on OP to give benefit of the doubt but in the end, OP is someone who you can't trust after all. This is actually good though, with OP reporting his competitors then OP will be doing the job for the scambusters far easier.
2629  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitcasino.io blocked account with 1.6 btc. on: February 19, 2021, 04:21:55 AM
have you tried contacting their forum representative again or address on their thread that the issue is still ongoing and 2 weeks have passed since the issue arrised? Karl(Bitcasino.io Support) is active at responding to issues against their gambling site. he might be able to help update you about the progress of the issue you are currently experiencing. good luck I hope your issue can be solved soon.
Hopefully that is what OP did because I know Karl is an active user in this forum, replied to some of his threads in the Gambling Discussion and hopefully that this issue can be resolved.

To OP, I think that you should understand that there is a bureaucracy behind so it is taking slow. They might want to properly review your complaint or they are receiving a lot that they can't process everything at a timely manner and in your case, I think that they might be prioritizing it because the amount that you are being locked out of is a lot of money.
2630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Physical Attacks getting more serious on: February 18, 2021, 10:30:08 AM
- Never talk in public how much Bitcoins you own, or maybe don't even say that you even own any Bitcoin.
To be fair, those people that talk about their bitcoin and how much they own especially in a condescending manner deserves to have their bitcoin stolen, braggarts have the loosest lips so I don't mind them losing what they have.
- Try not to reveal your private information with various KYC procedures, or for ordering any crypto related stuff like hardware wallets.
This is a no brainer thing to do, it is your private info, keep it private as it is. It is enough that your government and those that need your info has yours.
- Don't keep all your Bitcoins in one wallet address and use multiple decoy wallets with small amount of coins.
I get it in a way but my question is why do we need to keep small amount of coins on it though?
- Use better security for your seed backups.
This won't matter if the person is a tattler and careless with their devices because when opportunity strikes, the attacks will happen no matter what.
2631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin goes mainstream as institutions hold 3% of BTC’s circulating supply on: February 18, 2021, 09:45:38 AM
You need to understand that mainstream does not mean that a few institutional investors are holding 3% of BTCitcoin in circulation. In my view main stream should mean when majority of people enters the market and not just when a few institutional investors hold majority of the coins.
The rally is based on these institutional investments in the past one year and some of the multi national companies are trying to incorporate BTCitcoin in their business.
I am kind of confused in this one, there was a thread about this about the amount that the institutional investors are hodling and it was around <=1%  so I can't believe this number exactly because there is a conflict. For me, mainstream is a combination of the companies and the public adopting bitcoin. We can't really blame that they buy a lot of bitcoin because the public individually is very weak and can't afford a lot of bitcoin. Can't be worried about it though, as more of this companies continuously buy bitcoin then the more the price increase because there are less in supply.
2632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin at $50k: Looking back at the price perspective on: February 18, 2021, 08:49:51 AM
This was back in 2009 though, we never knew that it will get this far and only a few know about bitcoin back then, it was still a talk underground and most people that were interested in bitcoin back then were programming and math people, not to mention that there are times that the people who bought those bitcoin in 2009 have sold it when it was around 1 USD or 1k USD because they didn't know that the prices will go up too. We can only imagine those what happened in the yesteryear, and this hindsight hopefully becomes a lesson to everyone that when an opportunity presents itself then you should grab it, not too late to get in the train because it is always open for everyone to hop in.
2633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I accept Bitcoin for payments on my online store? on: February 18, 2021, 08:04:01 AM
Yep! There are loads of people now who are using Bitcoin and accpeting bitcoin on their stores but ofcourse there will always be a risk on it as the price is volatile, it can go pump and dump at the same time...If you arent sure about it, then why not just go with USDT?
That is a pretty debatable statement, for example, in my country, wet and dry markets are not even connected to electronic payment apps that are used by a lot of people that I know which means that bitcoin transaction will be far lower than that. Remember that if you have a small circle of people then you wouldn't see the whole picture that there isn't a lot of people who knows about bitcoin. The quote above mentioned volatility which means that we need to address that first before integrating it into a local market but in regards to OP's online store, I think that you can always put it there so as to give people an option.
2634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many bitcoin is left ordinary people's hand? on: February 18, 2021, 07:22:15 AM
First of all, the number of confirmed lost bitcoin is far lower than the amount we are estimating as lost. So, you don't know whether people are not touching their bitcoin for long time or they have lost the access.
And the result can not be correct because you don't know which coins belong to which person/institution exactly unless they publicly announced it.
We can't exactly get a data so we use assumptions on that part because inactivity could mean anything. To me, it doesn't matter whether there are a lot or there are less bitcoin that ordinary people like me can get because getting even to 1 BTC is a difficult thing to do so we don't have to scramble over what to do with it because with the current numbers given by OP, I think that there is still a lot of bitcoin for every ordinary people.
2635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After Tesla, others began to pay attention to Bitcoin. Is this the future trend on: February 18, 2021, 06:43:02 AM
I think that it is definitely a future trend, Elon musk is a freaking huge public figure, he had an early hand in Paypal and cashed out. Now he has Tesla a budding electric car company with luxurious top of the line models that can damn near drive themselves. Musk has Space-X and now even a big Bitcoin Investment. Shortly after many celebs started buying in, like monkey see, monkey do. Fortunately for us, that drives more traffic into the market and our investments grow!  Cool
It is not the future trend, it is already a trend. Companies pouring money into investing in bitcoin has been around 2013, that was around Grayscale time. The only difference is that the Fortune 500 companies are looking at bitcoin's direction. Hopefully with Musk's as a spearhead for other celebrity entrepreneur, this will drive up the prices so high. As mentioned in the quote above, with celebrities buying bitcoin the market prices will increase because not just the celebrities are buying but their fans that want to imitate what their idol does.
2636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin $1Trillion Market Cap questions on: February 18, 2021, 05:59:42 AM
To put this into context:
Bitcoin was created in 2009 -> 12 years ago
Apple was created in 1976  -> 45 years ago
Sure Apple was old but the current marketcap of 2 trillion USD was only achieved in 2 years and I think doubling your marketcap at a short amount of time is impressive. But with the current scaling in bitcoin compared with the timeframe that it reached I think that given more years, bitcoin will reach bigger marketcap than Apple. The only reason that Apple has this marketcap is because they have a big market and the notion that owning one of their devices makes you look rich which is good for them because more people will buy their overpriced products that are mediocre at quality.
2637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Margin Trading versus Investing on: February 18, 2021, 05:19:15 AM
In my honest opinion, diversify your investment in top coins, hold the major part of your portfolio in ETH or BTC.

Margin trading comes with its risk factor, you can make a 1000$ in a day with 50$ but you can also lose that 50$ in a minute. It's always your wish to do whatever you want with your money, If you are able to learn and trade then it's well and good. But if you don't want to take that risk then better go with long term holding or regular trading.
Diversifying helps you curtail losses, when one of your investment is doing bad then it is alright because your other investment is doing good, it is rare to see a diversified portfolio with all the investments doing bad, I would back the opinion of the quote above because I believe diversification is good way to make more money. Margin is a bit of a so-so, as the quote above says, there are risks but if you know how to trade and you can manage your risk then you might as well do it, a lot of people make money doing margin trading, some of my friends do it too and the results shows. To OP, you should move this topic to the Trading Discussion, you can see "move topic" on the lower left of this thread and click it to move it to that topic.
2638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Nigeria Come Late to the Bitcoin Party? on: February 18, 2021, 04:40:02 AM
Every third world country is facing the same issue. Government are not helpful at all and do not have any knowledge about cryptocurrency. They think it is being used for only illegal activities. If government are helpfull then only you will find entrepreneurs coming up with new projects. Untill then the situation will remain like this.
The problem with third world country is they are like that because the elected leaders at those countries are corrupt or incompetent. Nigeria will never be late to the party despite the ban, I think that the people of Nigeria will still be using bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. Only way that the situation will change is if the people were to act on it and choose who will lead them and that chosen leader is a competent.
2639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much bitcoins could facebook had bought instead of buying Whatsapp, in 2014? on: February 18, 2021, 03:51:38 AM
Around 50 million bitcoin coins, that would now be worthing: $ 2,617,000,000,000 USD
There is the money but there isn't a lot of bitcoin to go around though not to mention that there are more lost coins every day, Facebook could've easily monopolized on bitcoin but they didn't chose to do so and my guess is that they didn't see bitcoin for a long term investment and they had plans to develop Libra but my guess is as good as any guess. Imagine if they were to bought bitcoin back then instead of Whatsapp, Facebook could've been the biggest company to hodl bitcoin in history but they didn't.
2640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dubai's IBC Group makes largest investment in Bitcoin's history on: February 17, 2021, 10:25:19 AM
This will be big for bitcoin, imagine the 1.5 billion USD bitcoin did for the prices, it got up to around 10k and now imagine if 5 billion USD could do for the prices, the 100k pipe dream would surely be achieved. And that will only be this rumor on IBC group, other rumors like Apple, MasterCard and other rumored company that are going to buy bitcoin are not included.
