2641  Economy / Speculation / Re: how many BTC is enough? on: November 12, 2013, 12:19:06 PM
I'd bet everything I could afford to lose. I'd still be able to live if I lost but I would only just have enough to cover rent, bills + food for the next few months.
2642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Protoshares (PTS) pool is working the best for you? on: November 12, 2013, 11:14:06 AM
PTSPool, Alpha Miner Pool, Beeeeer PTS or Ypool PTS?

So far, I have the best success with Beeeeer. Ypool is still buggy and haven't tried the other two. Still it's viable to solo mine still, but the pools make it more of a guarantee to get at least some PTS instead of waiting to get a block on solo mining, if it's not rejected.

PTSPool for me finds shares infrequently but gives a decent return, seems to be working.  Alpha Miner has been up and down.  They find lots of shares but the amount per share is therefore low.  I haven't used beeer.
Ypool seemed good but isn't working anymore.  Is it normal that pools go down so often or is PTS a bit unique?
2643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Invictus Innovations ProtoShares Cheat Sheet | CPU Mining | Fork at Block 12096 on: November 12, 2013, 11:08:47 AM
amazing when they have experience mining primecoin that it dies after a few hours of ProtoShares..
2644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [GREAT NEWS] LTC accepted by SilkRoad on: November 12, 2013, 09:37:49 AM
Great news guys!! Many sellers on SR 2.0 accept LTC now.

I just bought some stuff with my LTC Wink

I believe this is a good step towards LTC going mainstream. Grin

I'm sure you mean to say that you bought something with LTC, but not on Silk road, right?
I don't think silk road can be classed as mainstream either. It probably won't hurt the price though
2645  Economy / Economics / Re: Could a government supplant Bitcoin? on: November 12, 2013, 08:27:43 AM
Let's imagine the US government is in real financial crisis. It's aware that it can no longer afford to pay off it's debts and can no longer print more and more currency.

That is all true now, except for the not being able to print more currency part.
2646  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's getting frothy, and I'm dumping 75% of my coins on: November 12, 2013, 08:24:41 AM
Why does it have to crash? couldn't the price just stay where it is?
Everyone talks like it is binary - to the moon or crash.  Long term i think that is correct but in the next few weeks it's not.
2647  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] mcxNOW.com : Deposit. Earn Interest. Trade. on: November 12, 2013, 08:21:41 AM
this site doesn't support fiat currencies.

There is good reason for that
2648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Invictus Innovations ProtoShares Cheat Sheet | CPU Mining | Fork at Block 12096 on: November 12, 2013, 05:16:52 AM
How do I use this one? downloaded the git, now I am lost!
Edit worked it out.
2649  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Was the government shutdown good for the economy? on: November 11, 2013, 09:20:26 PM
It certainly showed that lots of the government workers aren't necessary for the running of the country.
If that leads to the realisation that the government isn't required in every part of our lives, then yes it was definitely a good thing.

A more direct answer to you question is that it was probably neutral, why would it not be really?
2650  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins UK future looks bleak on: November 11, 2013, 08:16:24 PM
Reading the article, I would say the future of UK banks looks bleak  Cool
That is definitely true!

I can imagine the UK press saying that it is like the euro by the back door!  Save the pound!
2651  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy And Hold - the "hold" bit is easy, but when to buy? on: November 11, 2013, 08:12:01 PM
I find holding to be difficult, I wish I coiuld go a week or 2 without checking the price, then I would be a true holder.
2652  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: November 11, 2013, 06:06:40 PM

And people say that bitcoin is too volatile!
2653  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB Bitcoin in UK for UKBT or Cash on: November 11, 2013, 05:53:27 PM

2656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which currency do you think might turn out be the next Bitcoin ? on: November 11, 2013, 05:42:54 PM
None of the currently released coins will ever match bitcoin.
2657  Economy / Securities / Re: [IPVO] [Multiple Exchanges] Neo & Bee - LMB Holdings on: November 11, 2013, 05:01:07 PM
Thanks for sharing this with us, TAT.

NEOBEE is one of the few cryptocurrency related investments that actually takes the time to make simultaneous announcements both on the forums and on Havelock. I realize that the standards in bitcoin investments can be quite low where firms don't regularly disseminate their plans or do so haphazardly without official announcements. I really appreciate bringing this type of professionalism to the community.
But they don't use Excel spreadsheets...
I am out lol

This doesn't even make sense.
Sarcasm
2658  Economy / Economics / Re: Energy consumption could become an issue if bitcoin really breaks through on: November 11, 2013, 04:54:41 PM
Let's say that Bitcoin takes the place of the USD within 10 years and see what the energy consumption of the bitcoin network will be...

Bitcoin can be replaced by a proof-of-stake currency. Seems to be an elegant solution to the energy consumption issue, isn't it?

If you haven't spent thousands of dollars on mining equipment, yes!
2659  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 11, 2013, 04:47:51 PM
Gox must have so much money now.  They shouldn't go broke but that doesn't mean they'll stop being rubbish!
2660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Invictus Innovations ProtoShares Cheat Sheet | CPU Mining | Fork at Block 12096 on: November 11, 2013, 04:33:21 PM
Pools are a bit dodgy at the moment, not sure if I should just go solo and hope for the best (i.e. get nothing!)
