flip a bitcoin for it.

By the way? What's on the back of a bitcoin?

Ok, what about this.

Whoever reply to this message closest to the time when we pass $35k at Bitstamp will recieve 0.01 btc from me

How to tell the exact time of the $35k breach? Down to seconds, at least. Minutes wouldn't be a problem.

Hey, let's play a game. I'm willing to give away 0.01 btc. Anyone has any suggestion for a fun game?

Truth or dare?

Who's first? Me or the ladies?  Wink

EDIT: $34k flatten some curves... C'mon bitcoin, you can do it!

Hey, let's play a game. I'm willing to give away 0.01 btc. Anyone has any suggestion for a fun game?

Predict the word count of JJG's 22.000th post?
Closest match wins. Quoted content does not count.
IF JJG IS OK WITH THAT, because he would of course have to be excluded from the contestants.

EDIT: A "word" must be well defined, like if every syllable, if not a "real word" counts too, and so on.

Last spam pic for today. I decided on this one to show how much color can be incorporated, the filter i used here was Tiffen Red #25, which cuts off everything below 695nm wavelength, iirc. Maybe 680-ish, thus letting some visible light pass along with the infrared.

One might ask: Why isn't there any Red in the photo?
It's because the red and blue color channels are inverted to better match the remaining colors to real life conditions. In the original pic from the cam, the sky is red, the foliage is light-green. The higher the wavelength, the more flat the colors appear, from that chrome look at 720nm and 750nm (the most popular ones), to that soft B&W near the borders of sensor spectrum capturing ability. There's also infrared 35mm film, which is B&W only.

EDIT: I wish i could shoot things like this from a drone. I'd need a drone that is capable of easily carrying about two pounds of payload and i would have to pre-adjust focus and other camera settings, shooting images blindly, like trial&error. Maybe i'll pick that up in the future, idk. This would set me back some more $k and make it even more time intensive, but it would also be unique (and so would it make me worry a bit more about OpSec again, i think).

EDIT2: Posting this pic here, along with my thoughts about drone photography, made me think more about it. If i note the positioning of the drone, while checking out views using the onboard cam, i could match zoom/focal length and vertical angle to the IR cam when on the ground again, which would save me from too many unwanted results of the blind shootings. Just send the drone back to the snapshot position and trigger the IR cam. This would work in my favor. Damn, i think i have to reconsider this project. Images may be well worth the resources i'd have to use.

I should also stay with my choice of weed strain for the next weeks but maybe vape a little less of it  Grin

Thanks for your input. And yours as well @Wekkel

Living in rent is always cheaper. And nobody needs to buy an apartment. But I see it as an investment that will not lose value here since its an holiday location. People making shitloads of money with AirBnB here. My plan was to cash out some BTC at 30k€ and buy even more apartments and rent them out on AirBnB. Thats an investment for life. While, I know most of us here dont want to hear it, BTC could go down to $0 tomorrow if every country in the world would put it on a blacklist. Will it happen? Probably not. But two brutal bear markets teached me something. And there will be a third one as well for me, thats sure.

I got into Bitcoin in 2013 and ever since hold my coins. Not even sold $1 of BTC. So at some point in life its time to enjoy a bit of that life. I am 39 and aint getting younger. I mean I could wait another 5-10 years and yes BTC might be at $1.000.0000 then. But then again, I could wait another 10 years and BTC could be at $2.000.000. It never ends. I could drive a Ferrari with 70. But will I enjoy it as much as with 39? Probably not.

You are right, I could invest and wait couple months. But I put all money I ever had into Bitcoin since 2013, besides that $70k on the bank. I never diversified. And what if I invest and we drop down to 4 digits for another 2-3 years? I know I know will probably not happen. But that MtGox and the 2017 crash still sits very deep.

Edit: I agree with your sentiment. I also dont buy BTC to make Fiat. If I cash out BTC, I would asap invest it into something else.

If you have survived 2 full BTC cycles you should have learned when the real fun starts... and if you are seeking advice here it means you're not sure if buying that apartment is the right thing to do in this situation... and if you aren't sure you don't need it trust me... so stop your weak hands whining and HODL private!!!  Cool

The fun should start in about 8-12 months. But thats just a small amount of BTC I sell now. Its not that I ask for advice if I should buy the apartment. I ask for advice if I should hold another 3-4 days, wich could mean a nice LG OLED TV or worst case $2-4k less. You see, I waited an hour now and its already $500 more  Tongue And I cant decide if we might see 40k until Monday or maybe 28k on Monday.

Thanks for your input. And yours as well @Wekkel

Knowing that background now, and the additional details, i'd say: Stick to your plan.
Leave some of your stash on your cold storage and offer me a discount if i want to take a break at your future apartment  Grin

EDIT: And in respect to serveria's reply: If you had that plan, why do you even question it? Afraid to lose again? I'd say you can live off the Airbnb and let the rest of the Stash grow in value. Not the worst decision, in my eyes.

Hahah dont worry, I´ll give you a nice discount. But only accept BTC as payment Tongue

Word  Smiley
So your plan was to sell at $30k and you already have that OLED TV included?
What does your gut feeling tell you? In my case, it was right most of the time. When i decided to wait... my trades went bad most times.
But that's only my experience. I'm born to hodl, as it seems  Cheesy

True, but at the very bottom of this cycle.   Tongue
I like JJG's approach: Take your profit when going up, if you need to and stick to your plan, only make little adjustments at a time.
Would fit here, don't you think?

Guys, I need your opinion.

First I want to make clear, I hold most of my coins. Dont freak out.

I had some fiat sitting on my bank account for some time now and decided to buy me a nice small apartment with that money since I missed to buy BTC with that. Around 70% of the money for the apartment comes from fiat. Now we agreed with the owner to pay the rest within 2 weeks. But I dont want to wait that long because he could sell it to somebody else if the offer is higher than I pay. The interest is high in that building. I did only pay him 0.1% as a down payment with the option to cancel from both sides.

The maximum I want to wait is next week. So, I am just watching the price all day. And currently we peaked pretty good. The 30% (around $30k) for the apartment will come from Bitcoin. Now, the higher the price, the less I pay of course. But I really cant predict the few coming days. I cant decide if I should sell now at almost 34k or just wait a bit more. Risk is there we dive deeper next week. Or even in the next hours (yes yes I know, long term is bullish etc.). But I would fuck my head if we go higher and I sold at 34k. I mean ok, 2-3k more is not that much some would argue. But 2-3k more is a fridge, a nice OLED TV and a chilly couch Smiley

Usually the rally is on the weekends the last 2-3 weeks. And currently I feel bullish. But January was never a good month for BTC. Any opinions? Sell now or hold couple more days?

That's the wrong approach, imo.
Do you need and want the appartment?
If yes, sell BTC. If no, buy BTC.
You can sell half a coin now, decide about the rest later next week. This way you are half secure.

BUT

Covid's impact on economy might lower apartment prices in 2021, so if you can wait, why not invest and wait?

So if you need and want that apartment, buy it.
If in doubt, forget it, buy some BTC and don't look back. That's how i would do it.

EDIT: Remember, i don't buy BTC to make fiat. That might differ from your goals.

Lockdown 3 announced in the UK tonight.

They raised Covid alert to lvl 5. One hospital in London already went full Covid, suspending all regular care which is not good news for people who needs to be treated.

Stay save LFC_Bitcoin.

I'd say look up "empty hospitals" on Youtube but they have all been taken down.

But Bitchute...

https://www.bitchute.com/video/EBpezGTu08Fy/

If they're telling the truth, full transparency should be encouraged. A simple video of the full ICU would show people how serious this is (not using fake dummies in beds).

Elwar, it's less a problem of getting more ICUs, it's getting qualified staff. Intensive care is not nursing.
It's the same in my country, theoretically thousands of ICU's possible to set up, but only staff for a little more than one thousand. Additionally, you can't teach this in a course, it's a qualification that needs at least two years to be mastered, more like three to four years.
Feel free to go and ask a doctor who is working in the intensive care field about things you hear or see on the internet about covid and what the "truthseekers" claim is "really" happening. It would be best if this person is somebody you personally know and also trust. I know more than one, and i know what's going on in our hospitals. Don't fall for the conspiridiots.

Find some peace in these stressful pandemic times in beautiful nature....

Every digital consumer camera has an infrared filter in front of the sensor, to cut off some blurriness, which would be removed easily by sharpening algorithms and also not only be visible to the human eye through long exposure imaging. So in astronomic photography many galxies would be invisible on photographs, that's why astrocams don't have any filter built in, as do night vision devices. Now, if you take a digital camera, take out the infrared filter and replace it with clear glass (to keep the focal path intact), you have a DIY astrocam. Now put a filter that cuts off all light but below certain wavelengths (715nm - dark red), the sensor is capable to catch only infrared light. At about 900nm no more color is there to be recorded, only lightness information. The data from the image has to be processed to deliver good results with much contrast and vivid colors, due to the nature that only a narrow spectrum of light freqencies is captured through the filter.
Older cameras have weaker IR filters, some even had removable ones (like the Sigma SD), so you just needed the screw-on IR-pass filter and longer exposure without a useable view through the viewfinder (very blackish red). The Nikon D70 was especially popular back then.

I will say the "Alert levels" things are completely useless, no question there.
But media and authorities scaring peoples really feeling bad for this all because its nothing bad as they are doing this all.
Fail. I've had six people around me die due to COVID19, two who said "THIS IS NOT THE FLU" before they went. This is exceptionally serious.

The outcome also relies on the specific strain of CoV2. Most lucky fuckers are infected by less severe variants, so they say "it's not that bad, i had it too...".
Empathy is still underdeveloped in us humans, but as long as there are mysteries around CoV and Covid, people will construct their own "truth" based on experience and knowledge, also personality. We know especially about knowledge, that it doesn't spread as fast as a corona virus.
I'm still not tired to point out that most social and economic problems on this planet are results of poor education.
Take bitcoin as an example...
Sorry for your losses.

My last spam pic(s) (for today at least), but if some of you are into photography and can probably afford an infrared converted digital camera, you will discover some kind of new beauty.

Good night, hodl tight  Cool

These are some really cool pics, I dig it. Please post some more later.

Thanks.
I had to realize that i put everything on the NAS before migrating my windows installation after getting a new laptop.
I've got no recent pics locally, because IR photography is a summer thing, when there's a lot of (reflective) foliage, grass and IR radiation from the sun.
Will post some more colorful IR shots later on, as well as pics of human skin, which looks like the skin of elves in IR.

Photography is awesome for when you get older or not suited to serious exercise.  I know people in their mid 80s that take amazing landscape photos.

Also local wildlife photography can help advance science if you get the right niche for rare birds / critters in your area

My dad was heavily into photography. Landscape, supercars and these soft filtered 70's portraits. I grew into it, automatically.
Got my first Canon AE-1 from him at the age of 12, i also have two inherited lenses here, which i use occasionally. A Tamron push-pull zoom and a fixed focal length 24mm f2 lens. Both can't keep up with modern sensor resolutions too well, though.
Stepping into digital photography at 2 megapixels from 35mm film was awesome.
At the time you can shoot landscapes like this a lot:

I'm into photography too. This hobby can be expensive (esp. the lenses), but Bitcoin can take care of that. I kept postponing upgrading my aging equipment (Canon gear, but very old—body is a 20D, still works fine), but after my COVID-19 situation, there's going to be a serious reshuffling of my priority list. If/when this shit clears away, the first thing I'm going to do is buy a nice mirrorless body with a couple of good lenses. Below is one candidate (APS-C sensor, but I like the overall camera design), and also looking at the Sony Alpha mirrorless series (full-frame sensor).

FUJIFILM X-T4 Mirrorless Digital Camera

Enjoy it, it's an immensely rewarding experience.

The 20D is still a good cam, i had one too, it had pretty mild infrared-cut filters in front of the sensor, for nice long exposure within 1-4 secs for color-IR images.
Couldn't get under 20secs with the later D40 and 720nm filter, a nightmare. I bought a used Nikon D70 for compensating this caveat.
I have one mirrorless (two-thirds) body, an EOS-M converted for color-infrared photography. I can adapt all my EF/EF-s lenses to it and it allows to shoot much faster shutter times, sometimes too fast for that mellow IR look.
However, from my experience with this body, i can only urge to buy a mirrorless body which is BIG enough, like a standard DSLR. The EOS-M and most mirrorless bodies are too small to be held comfortably for longer times, especially with the heavier types of lenses mounted.

EDIT: The EOS-M is an APS-C, not MFT, sorry.

Made the most well timed and largest trade I've ever done yesterday and early this morning.  Literally had a "gut feeling" so, I consulted magic 8 ball.  I ended up selling a large chunk of BTC I held on an exchange at the price point of around $32k.  Also sold all of (shitcoin that shall not be mentioned) that I've had for about 4 years now while it was at a price point of $1,100.

Woke up from a deep sleep, checked my phone, saw BTC below $29k, bought with all the fiat sitting on the exchange, went to bed...  Increased my BTC holdings by 20% and finally cleaned my hands of shitcoins.

That's it boys... I'm retiring trading... can't beat that one if I tried... Grin

Hope everyone else made the best out of that fire sale.

Congrats. I had this gut feeling, too. I switched 10% of my btc holdings into two top5 marketcap shitcoins. When i woke up i checked the prices and saw them up roughly at 30% and 26%, wanted to sell but got caught in family business, managed to reverse the trades two hours later, still resulting in 11% gains.

reminds me of a sunset on Haleakala, Maui (US, Hawaii)

Never been there (yet). Fillippone may well know the mountains in the background  Wink
