2641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: altcoin launch prices ??? on: February 01, 2014, 07:41:52 PM
A list like this would be great in determining whether it's a good time to invest in a coin or not.

I think you mean the price when the coin was first listed for trading. This information is available on the all-time charts for most coins at exchanges like Cryptsy.

The best indicator for coin investment is the community. The coin is the community, the community is the coin.
2642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: February 01, 2014, 07:04:18 PM
Are these any volume requirements to become listed on coinmarketcap.com?

I noticed today that YbCoin is #15 in the World (mineable) on $76 dollars volume last 24 hours. If seems that for a coin to be ranked so high it should have at least some level of volume.

Thanks and I love your fantastic website!  Cheesy

I was thinking about mining HBN and DOGE.  Are there any others that a newbie can grab.  What are some of the trustworthy pools?

This is a great pool for mining a great coin: http://gld.cloudmines.net/
2645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Legit Altcoin summary website? on: February 01, 2014, 05:31:23 PM
Does anyone know of a site, or sites that summarize *all* altcoins, and breaks down their history, mkt cap, total coins in circulation, % premined (if any), % mined in early days, and basically summarizes their legitimacy? Something like an altcoin investment site, or "motley fool" for altcoins would be invaluable in this community imho.

What a great idea!

This is a website that tracks all the various cryptocurrencies and has some coin data: http://com-http.us/ But it doesn't contain investment advice.

With decentralized communities the main metric you're interested in is "quality of community".
2646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do coins and their founders start a foundation for the coin on: February 01, 2014, 05:04:01 PM
Hello.  What are your thoughts and reasoning why there is a creation of a foundation for the coin?

These types of organizational bodies are helpful in protecting, overseeing, and propelling the evolution of the currency.

2648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin Killing Bankers? Third prominent banker found dead in six days on: February 01, 2014, 03:14:14 AM

Bloomberg is reporting this morning that former Federal Reserve economist Mike Dueker was found dead in an apparent suicide near Tacoma, Washington. Dueker, 50, a chief economist at Russell Investments, had been missing since Jan. 29 and was reportedly having troubles at work.

Normally HousingWire wouldn’t cover deaths in the industry, but what’s strange is that Dueker is the third prominent banker found dead since Sunday.

On Sunday, William Broeksmit, 58, former senior manager for Deutsche Bank, was found hanging in his home, also an apparent suicide.

On Tuesday, Gabriel Magee, 39, vice president at JPMorgan Chase & Co’s (JPM) London headquarters, apparently jumped to his death from a building in the Canary Wharf area.

2649  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CampBX Has Been Dropped By Their Bitcoin Fearing Bank on: February 01, 2014, 12:59:12 AM

This exchange in located in the Atlanta, GA vicinity.

My understanding is the exchange has experienced issues with ACH reversals. Maybe that was a contributing factor in the bank's decision.

Campbx didn't accept deposits via ACH.  So if they had reversals, it means they were overdrawn on their bank account.  That is a disturbing claim that you are making.  Do you have any evidence to support your claims?

Actually the ACH reversals were indirect.

This was reported to me by a company official during a period when they were supported by Dwolla. Basically when Dwolla got an ACH customer reversal they would pass the buck and reverse the customer's CampBX deposits in an attempt to recover funds. Recently, CampBX was telling customers ACH deposits were coming.

Perhaps the bank was concerned about ACH exposure on some level?

2651  Economy / Service Discussion / Bank Pulls Plug on CampBX Due to ‘Regulatory Uncertainty’ on: February 01, 2014, 12:13:35 AM

US bitcoin trading platform CampBX has announced that it has temporarily halted automated clearing house (ACH) and wire transfers effective 31st January.

Alpharetta, GA-based CampBX indicated in a blog post to its users that its bank has “made a business decision to not work with bitcoins and bitcoin companies”. The bank cited regulatory uncertainty, as well as recent negative bitcoin news, as the driving force behind the decision.

The decision is notable as CampBX became the first bitcoin website to obtain Payment Card Industry (PCI) certification in 2011, signifying that it implements specified controls and safeguards to protect consumer data. CampBX allows for quick buy and sell trades, provides customers with SMS notifications and secures its platform with two-factor authentication, its website says.

2652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How is established the value of a new coin ? on: January 31, 2014, 10:47:08 PM
What make a new coin "valuable" ?

The value of a coin is mostly tied to the size and quality of the community. The bigger the community (aka adoption) the more valuable the coin.

How / Who establish its value vs BTC / LTC ?

The markets establish the price which is based on supply and demand.

How can be listed a new coin on sites like Cryptsy, Coinex, Bter then on BTC-E, Crypto-Trade, Bitstamp, etc ?

Each exchange has its own requirements. Build a strong coin and community and the exchanges will list the coin.

What make people to adopt a new coin ? I mean, look at DOGE.

This is the toughest nut to crack. Marketing and timing are essential elements.

The persons involved in launching new coins shouldn't be worried about the "value" factor ?

Value is always a concern. If the coin has no value, it has no reason for existing.
2653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin to buy or mine ? on: January 31, 2014, 09:33:27 PM
In my opinion, you want to buy/mine a coin that has yet to be widely discovered.

Once the media and the whole world has jumped in, there will be less upside potential. The trick is to find the coin before the massive run up in price.

How to find the next winner:

Take a look at the list of coins on coinmarketcap.com and look for those that are undervalued. The trick is to find coins that have a disconnect between underlying fundamentals and market price. Do your homework and realize that coin value is derived from; coin name, size and quality of community, and developer genius.

Then read, study, and research, and find the coins that the markets have not yet found.
2654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi or Satochi ? on: January 31, 2014, 09:05:31 PM
No one knows who he is.

Satoshi was a time traveler from the year 2075 (or so) that came here to rescue the earth from a financial takeover.

He has now reentered his time warping vehicle and returned to his time period of origin. He was originally scheduled to stay until the 51% attack defense was implemented but was forced to return early due to unexpected health issues related to his time travels.
2655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York wants to regulate Bitcoin on: January 31, 2014, 02:09:19 PM
Will be interesting to see what if anything can be done to make it so consumers would want to buy bitcoins to spend them. Or maybe there's simply enough people who will buy bitcoin and hold them and then spend profits that thats still enough to create a decent sized amount of consumers using bitcoin. who knows.

You not wrong but it's worth noting that current options are rather pushing consumers away to any alternative that would offer what Bitcoin can.

I dont know about other countries but when I use my debit card or credit card... it just works. No extra fee's no extra steps needed. When I use cash...same thing.

I don't disagree that people are getting more and more weary of banks, and various fees here and there are pissing people off.  But when it comes to your typical day to day transaction, there simply are no fee' on the consumer side.  Except in cases of using plastic on various micotransactions.

The problem is that fiat is not decentralized and is artificially inflated. With Bitcoin (and other altcoin currencies) you can use it for financial transactions and your money does not become diluted by a central authority.

This will be the main driver of consumer adoption as transactions become more streamlined.

2656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people work in Bitcoin? on: January 31, 2014, 02:03:05 PM
Wow many people u think are dedicated to Bitcoin mining, trading... etc
If this is the greatest forum and has only 230000 members ...
300000?
1000000?
100000000?

If you expand the scope into the altcoin sector the numbers are huge.
2657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi or Satochi ? on: January 31, 2014, 02:01:17 PM
I was reading the following article on examiner.com ...They are calling the founder as Satochi. Is it the correct spelling ?

http://www.examiner.com/article/free-bitcoins

The correct spelling of Bitcoin's infamous time-traveling founder is "Satoshi".

2659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which one will make us rich in 12 months? on: January 31, 2014, 01:48:38 PM
So, for the ones who know nothing about other cryptocurrencies, why should they try them instead of others?

My suggestion would be to support purely open-source decentralized currencies only, and to find the ones that strongly believe "community comes first". The key to building a successful coin is in building a vibrant and healthy community. Other strategies can work but they will inherently be restricted in scope and scale.

The strongest trees are those that grow slowly and have deep roots.

2660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Now Colorado Hipsters Can Fill Up Their Tanks Using Bitcoin on: January 31, 2014, 01:40:02 PM

A gas station in the US now lets customers fill up with bitcoin, making it likely to be the first business that allows the purchase of fossil fuel using cryptocurrency.

The station has completed eight transactions since it began accepting bitcoin at the start of January, according to the store’s owner, Shahzad Sarwar.

“I started taking bitcoin, above all, to support the bitcoin community,” he said.

The gas station, in Greeley, Colorado, is called Cosmic Market and also has a convenience store attached. Here you will find proof of Sarwar’s fervent support for the digital currency writ large on the wall. “Bitcoin accepted here. Take the power back. Let the banks eat cake!” a poster proudly proclaims.
