Can we agree instead of mentioning shitcoin speculating/mining in WO to accumulate more BTC to just say

"bought BTC"

to replace

"converted shitcoin X to BTC"

and the likes?

Because $ and € (and co.) are shitcoins as well, right?
And it's called "buying BTC" then, right?

For me, if i ever hold some shitcoin and convert it to Bitcoin, i will only write "bought more BTC", "bought this dip" or whatever in here.
It's basically the same as converting fiat to BTC, isn't it?
Would just tidy up this thread a bit more while shillers are kindly asked to GTFO, as usual.

Of course this thread initiated in regards to watching dollar btc walls.. but sure, there has been some evolutions over the years including greater appreciation that the dollar is a shitcoin.. but it is still a standard upon which we measure BTC value.. even though there have been other means of measuring BTC's value proposed through the years.

I surely do not believe in the bullshit assertions that all value needs to be held in bitcoin, even though such practices might work for some people.. most people need some kind of balance of value to be maintained in one kind of fiat or another, just to accommodate the ongoing living (and even luxury) expenses that they are paying in such fiat.. whether daily, weekly, monthly or some other period in which some of their various living expenses arise.

Or maybe, your opinion above is an erroneous assertion.
In a hypothetical scenario of a large purchase vs annoying DCAing I know which one comes ahead. Fact.
Borrow against and you don't have to sell. You don't have to sell the best asset for the worse, unless you can think of a better investment.

I also have too much time on my hand so I looked into the Levan Polkka.
It's a Finnish polka about a girl who goes out partying against her parent's will.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yh9i0PAjck

It then apparently somehow made it to Japan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU4wnVrZXo4

And was then picked up by a Turkish blind drummer sitting on a bench drumming, and that then got a life of it's own, resulting in the video we all love.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAyWN9ba9J8

there is also tropical/eastern european techo-Levan Polkka:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utud81Xc-fA

and a farmer version (old):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8fW2n_ma9Y

some WO's are trying to counterfeit it.  Grin

More polkka:

Hutsune Miku (anime)-previous japanese version was human singers pretending to be Hatsune Miku:

Same in hardstyle remix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f23SOgDxx6o

makes me wish i can go out and freaking do something, including dancing, lol.
someone needs to drop Elon into Bilal's polkka session.

BTW, when 44?
EDIT: now
EDIT2: man, Elon is there already:

Any idea what was TESLA's average price for bitcoin they bought?

Elon Musk had that public exchange with Michael Saylor, that Micg posted, on Dec. 20. So, they probably bought sometime after that, unless Musk was just feigning ignorance. If they bought between 12/20 and 12/31, their average would be in the mid to upper $20Ks.

Their public release says that they change treasury policy in January, so I assume it was later than 12/31.

From what I understand, they purchased the $1.5B in Q4 2020. They revised their treasury plans in January, 2021 to allow them to trade other cryptos, etc.

From their SEC filing:

Quote
In January 2021, we updated our investment policy to provide us with more flexibility to further diversify and maximize returns on our cash that is not required to maintain adequate operating liquidity. As part of the policy, which was duly approved by the Audit Committee of our Board of Directors, we may invest a portion of such cash in certain alternative reserve assets including digital assets, gold bullion, gold exchange-traded funds and other assets as specified in the future. Thereafter, we invested an aggregate $1.50 billion in bitcoin under this policy and may acquire and hold digital assets from time to time or long-term. Moreover, we expect to begin accepting bitcoin as a form of payment for our products in the near future, subject to applicable laws and initially on a limited basis, which we may or may not liquidate upon receipt.

Says that updated policy in Jan 2021 and thereafter invested.

Sorry guys I got caught by life a lot lately but still this is the best time to be alive really. I remember when a few of us where here during hard times, giving strength  to one another, always sharing why at some point we would have been inevitably where we are today.
Thank you all!
Enjoy the ride WOers!

We can tell you cure for corona if life dominates you! Cheesy Cheesy
No corona, just simple and plain life.  Smiley

Before Corona, I always felt depressed and down. It was a vitamin deficiency. And after Corona... I've been taking 3x dose of daily "recommended" vitamin dose. And I feel great, almost feels like cocaine!!! Cheesy Cheesy

many young people experience vitamin deficiency:
vit B-because they don't eat enough green veggies.
vit D-because they don't spend enough time outside, spending a lot of time on computer games inside OR a strictly vegan diet.
Both vit B and vit D deficiences can cause mental problems (B) and bone pain, muscle weakness and insomnia (vit D).

I think most likely at $30-32K (during Jan 21-28) because he added btc to his twitter on jan 29 causing a pop to 37K.
I don't think that he did that before the buy, lol.
If so, he already "made" >$500mil (30%) on that investment.

Yes you are completely right, I was on a shit reporting drive and mixed up your avatar with that other Bitvest participant Indymoney god dammit shame on me! Hope my publicly apologizing here (+per PM) is sufficient to you, it won't happen again!

I know these feelings, i constantly mix up messages and messengers when names are involved. But this is a different story.

Maybe unrelated:

The following statements might not be directly connected, but the emotional quality of most discussions has changed quite much in here, and it has a certain time based correlation with

THE PANDEMIC

It's that Covid shit fucking us and our lives all up. Slowly, but constantly. I experience this every day now, in some form or another. In family, society, friends, politics...
Yesterday i was watching a movie, people were close distanced, no masks, and it was the first time it all appeared fucking unnatural to me, before i realized that this pandemic life slowly becomes "normal life". This is a manifestation of the whole virus situation and social approaches to solve it slowly fucking us over, just because we were never meant to life our lives like that. We are actually slowly degrading as humans.
I feel the sentiment in WO slowly changing too, precisely since the start of this global shitshow. We don't even talk about it any more in here, and it's not because it's off topic, because dozens of things we talk about each week are OT as well. Many former active members have slowly gone quieter and quieter.

This is the crisis. This is our test as individuals, as family members, as communities, for society.

Either we evolve and handle the situation with care and foresight, or we just give in to the primal instincts of our genetic ancestors.

What would YOU prefer?

We're at WO are a minority, tied together by our dedication to BTC, Satoshi Nakamoto's present to us.
We should stand together as strong as we hodl, regardless if we think all other's opinion is worth some mushy shit or not.
Together we're sitting in this train which is going to the moon, so let's get our shit together and ENJOY IT, because for many of us it might be one of the last things we will be able to enjoy anyway, at least for some more time. Most of the "fun" is even up to come, like the expected hit on global economy.
I could go on pathetically like this, but i just hope you all know what i mean, even if i look like a over-emotional clown to some of you right now.

Gentlemen!

out of merit, will do later.

it is a global crisis of a century. a natural disaster (well, scope-wise, not saying it did not escape from some lab) that affects all human beings on the planet. this virus is so contagious that every single human being on this planet will have to deal with it. you either get it because of infection or in form of a vaccine. the immune systems of all human beings must cope with it. no way around that. i know i rather wait for the vaccine. it is there, it just needs to get produced on scale and distributed.

in my opinion, without the internet, we would have all ran havoc by now. tech is saving us. (it is possible that tech also got us there, i dont know)

for bitcoiners it is very weird to see the world almost falling apart while bitcoin is getting so valuable. the whole world went in kind of forced hibernation. when covid winter is over, we will make it out of our caves. it will be beautiful to meet again. humankind will have a party. the little bonus for bitcoiners is the amount of financial independence they gained.

for some areas, like for example where i live, the darkest hours are yet to come. but the silver lining is clearly visible, and it is real.

we will pull through. this is the crisis, but we will make it. hodl bitcoin and stay healthy. the rewards are breathtaking.

edit: new ATH before February 14th. i take bets.

Could be tomorrow or Tue.
That said, there is a large increase in depression levels everywhere.
My coworkers (all working remotely) are reporting exhaustion.
This is what 10 mo of stress does to you. There is only this much adrenalin.
I am more concerned whether we basically going to normality only much later.
I already hear that we should still wear masks even AFTER getting vaccinated.
Well, maybe until most people are vaccinated as to not hurt their feelings of safety, but once >90% are done, f-k it, I would not wear a mask.
It would make no sense.

I'm just waiting for BBQcoin to make a comeback. It's due.

Namecoin is going to supersede DNS any day now...

Man, that brings back memories. What ever happened to Eligius and those "shelved shares"?

Those were major screw-up people with 90-92% mining efficiency, lol
Who knows where the other 5 or more % went.

I am with @JimboToronto on this.

Selling btc for fiat is just silly, unless some other investment (a farm, a parcel of land, apartment in a nice city or at the vacation spot) is the immediate goal.
Honestly, selling btc for fiat just to have it in the bank is almost the same as selling btc for shitcoins, maybe even worse, and I don't care much about DCAing in and out strategies, unless you DCA via mining. Much maligned shitcoins is a perfect vehicle to cash out to fiat, though. They are called "oscillators" for a reason.

I am riding the bitcoin wave with full understanding that I might "lose" 80% from the top in each full cycle.
The market timing does not work for me. Once I sell, I consider the chunk as "gone".
EDIT: found a great explanation re btc vs cash here:

IMHO, both @600watts and @Wekkel are both correct and not so in a sense.

I agree about "rich men gambling paradise" and "contenders rising" and "injurious attempt" (even betrayal -that would be a proper description, especially considering his rants about harm to environment-such horsesh-t).
What I don't 100% agree with is that it would be completely forgotten in a few decades.
Well, maybe in some decades, but my time frame is limited to, say, 20-30 years, being wildly optimistic.

Why not?
Well, it is 7 years old already vs 12 for btc.
It has grown as fast as bitcoin in usage and the chart is repeating bitcoin with one cycle lag, it is actually uncanny to what degree it does it.
The longer a technology survives, the longer it would likely to survive, so my argument has some statistical underpinning (Lindy effect and Pareto distribution).
Thereby, it is likely that bitcoin will still be around at least 12 years from now and "another entity" at least another 7.

Holy shit, I decided to purge out some old threads in my watch list and I deleted one from the alt section and just because I haven't looked at that board in years now I decided to see what was being posted and I ran into the funniest post I have seen in years!

I think you guys will get a chuckle out of this one! Cheesy

Just wanna share this with you guys...maybe...just maybe it will help calm my nerves down

I found what i consider a gem today, so i was in a hurry to buy some before more people discover it and the price begins to go up, being an erc-20 token and only listed on uniswap and 1inch, i needed eth and i had zero eth on my wallet, fortunately, i had about $163 usd in my local bank account so i immediately took out $150 usd to buy some eth, after successfully buying eth from a centralized exchange, i quickly withdrew it to my trust wallet, the exchange took about $22 usd for Ethereum transfer fees so i was left with about $128 usd when the eth hit my trust wallet.

i quickly headed to uniswap to purchase my precious new found ticket to the moon, with my $128 usd in eth, i could have easily purchase about 2000 of the tokens but due to eth high fees, i brought it down to 1000 tokens so as to enable have some eth left for fees but surprisingly, when i clicked on swap, i was told that i don't have enough eth to cover the transaction fees, how much was the fees??? behold ! $87 usd, i was shocked, i didn't want to buy less than 1000 tokens so i decided to adjust the fees, after adjusting, i was able to bring the fee down to $42 usd, i was warned that my transaction might take a very long time before confirmation o might even be cancelled, i took my shot and clicked the submit button.

so the wait began ...

1 hour -- i was still waiting for a confirmation

3 hours -- i was still waiting for a confirmation

4 hours -- i was still waiting

5th hour came and some where in the middle of it, i got a notification from trust wallet that my transaction has been confirmed... i was happy, i quickly rushed to etherscan to view the transaction. lo and behold,, the transaction was confirmed but the token purchase didn't pull through, it returned an error saying like purchase wasn't successful due to low gas shit shit shit...WHAT THE F...KING HELL .. my $42 usd gone just like that HuhHuhHuh?? i was so fucking mad, in fact, if i knew where vitalik was, i would have called security men to have him arrested, i was devastated, i felt like crying, i was so mad at my wife and kid like its their fault,...it wasn't funny, out of $128 usd, i had just $86 usd left, i couldn't buy my precious ticket to the moon no more, its really a bad day for me today, i lost $150 usd just like that, that was all i had left in my local bank account, and now its gone all because of Ethereum high fees.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5314741.0

That sucks. I'm fortunate to have the funds. Yesterday I spent $500 on moving funds to a new stake only to see today that that contract was being canceled and to move to a new stake. Which I ended up doing for about $150.

Yep, that stuff (even simple contracts) is unusable right now with $100-150 fees.
Tx cost to send is similar to btc in about $7 range.
I am not too happy to pay $7/btc tx, but sometimes you have to.
2677  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 06, 2021, 07:16:50 PM
So I've been playing around with DeFi with a small bit of some of my old ETH and I went to "stake" some coins and the gas fee was over $2k. I canceled the transaction but I don't see ETH lasting much longer as it is. I've warned people away from ETH due to how overloaded it has all become and it appears that it is unusable at this point.
I only wish I could get more mini gear to get more eth to convert to btc

I am paying under 11 cents to the dollar for my btc. to around 4400 for 1 btc.

obviously I don't have enough mining gear with this or I would not post here. As I would make Bob and Rick look like paupers.

Stupid cards are nowhere to be seen.
I have only two 1080 ti, one is in a gaming PC, another is mining grin (yes, I am a stubborn fella).
Sure, i am missing out on not doing eth and converting to btc, whatever, small potatoes.

That said, 3080 unavailability is starting to piss me off (I am not paying $1.5K for a $700 card) and and everybody are blaming eth miners for it.

ATH is right around the corner this Sunday Night.

I'm probably wrong, but I have a feeling we're going to see $50k over the next seven days.

Nope, I think you're absolutely correct

$53.65K is the "magic" number in $$, though (a tril).

Bitcoin is cool as a cucumber right now with other stuff going up 100% a day.

Not entering into overheating stuff-not my style, but I have something back from 2017-lol.
If the fever will not decrease later today, the weekend might get more frothy.
Unfortunately, our dominance dropped to 60.3% or so.
Hopefully, a temporary situation.

A thought occurred that Elon's tweets are like another stimmy, especially for dog-e owners.
Check their reddit -it's hilarious.
I think that he likes to stir trouble, but somehow wins in the end.
EDIT: tweets about some 1999 song, a stock with the same name apparently pops as a result (as per news article).
