But why use 2 power supplies? Is there not enough power in the server power supply or is there no adapter to power the motherboard?
The 500-700w ATX unit is only good for 1-2 video cards, but the rig has 8-10 cards, so obviously more power is required. If I had a 10x RTX 3060 rig, it needs 2000w total. The ATX supply will cover 500w, so I need 1500w extra, which can be covered by two HP-DPS750RB supplies. Or I could have an 8-card rig and use a single HP-DPS1200FB supply. I like to have enough wattage to cover the full TDP of the cards.

With 8x RTX 3080 Ti video cards (2800w) a single DPS1200 won't be enough. I will need two of them, with the remaining 400w being covered by the ATX unit.

Why not a 1600w ATX supply or even a 1200w one? Because they are double the price-per-watt of the server units. An EVGA 1600 P2 will cost $220 which is 13.8 cents/W. But a HP DPS-1200FB+breakout board+12v cables costs just $70 --> 5.8 cents/W.
A cheap power supply is not suitable for video cards. It can be used to power the motherboard and hard drive. I do not build a mining farm with a consumption of 2-3 kilowatts. It is better to make 2 mining farms with a server power supply of 1200-1600 watts. Maybe it will be more expensive by $ 100, but it will be more reliable.

Who makes chinese asics PSU?..asics are expensive and they rely on those PSUs, maybe there are good chinese PSU out there.
It seems to me that it is more profitable to buy a proven server power supply

I do not build a mining farm with a consumption of 2-3 kilowatts. It is better to make 2 mining farms with a server power supply of 1200-1600 watts. Maybe it will be more expensive by $ 100, but it will be more reliable.
I have had no problems building mining rigs with two or even three power supplies. As long as the video cards are the exact same model and power sources are not mixed, the uptime has been close to 99%. I have had success with this method since 2017.

A cheap power supply is not suitable for video cards. It can be used to power the motherboard and hard drive.
The EVGA 500GD is more than reliable enough with enough power for a single RTX 3080 Ti as well as the system components. It has 4.4 stars on Newegg. Why not make use of that capacity?
Many miners built their farms with two 850 watt power supplies in 2015. I don't install many graphics cards in my mining farm due to cooling issues, because they heat each other up. I don't have 1 meter raisers Smiley

Is a graphic card with 6GB memory like 1660 super a good buy for 200$ right now? What about buying 6700XT at 300$
The price is very good for both video cards. But there are about 2 months left until the end of mining. Read about the announcement date of the POS algorithm.
How long will it take to deliver video cards and start mining?
In 2 months it can be cheaper in your market.
2663  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is this video card? on: July 15, 2022, 04:59:12 PM
the last 15 months I grabbed 3 cards on ebay used all work well.
I have had more problems with new video cards than used ones. In total, I have purchased 150 used / 300 new GPUs over the past 6 years. The new ones had a DOA rate of 2-3% while the used were only DOA 1% of the time.
I received video cards from miners, they had lower hashrate or it crashed during overclocking. Such situations are very common. The end date for Ethereum mining has been announced and the suggested prices are dropping. Perhaps in September new video cards will be very cheap.

philipma1957, thanks.
2664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How bad can it get? on: July 14, 2022, 03:11:57 PM
There are a lot of video cards in mining, so even manufacturers are postponing the sale of new models, because the secondary market is crowded. For video cards to be in demand, a new coin is needed, and there are no such coins yet. Ethereum mining will end and the price of other coins may fall in a bear market, then mining on video cards will be boring.

Yeah it’ll be 2015 all over again. GPU mining was so boring and unprofitable that i switched to Bitcoin ASICs because there was profits there while with GPUs there wasn’t.

There were more POW coins then, much more than today. However the miner supply and the low market cap made them a waste of time to mine prettt much. Dash was probably #1 POW coin then, however the profits weren’t that great.

Same will happen now most likely.
In 2015, asics did not have a consumption of 3 kilowatts, and they could be used at home. I even remember silent models.
But modern asics consume a lot and are noisy. They are not suitable for most miners.

I think that many miners sold for 60,000 dollars, otherwise the hashrate would fall and the miners would go bankrupt. Inexperienced miners will go bankrupt, other businessmen will take their place, because the profit in this business is good. The article says that well-known mining companies are doing great.
2667  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: this is a bear market, what's mining is better to get an income? on: July 14, 2022, 02:54:51 PM
agree with you, maybe the price will be dump again.
for me,i need to research on where the yield is coming from before staking,i thing it is very important.
if the protocol charge gas fee and this is the source of staking reward, then i will count the amount of gas fee,so that i can know that what's the real reward and apy.
There is more profit in mining. Even now there is equipment with a payback of 6 months, even in the worst case scenario it is 12-15 months. This is better than mining unknown shitcoins, the price of which is unstable and can nullify all your profit.
2668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is this video card? on: July 14, 2022, 02:51:25 PM
I remember the suggested retail price for the RTX 3090 was around $1500.
https://www.nvidia.com/de-de/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3090-3090ti/
Where do you buy these video cards for $1,000?
FeeBay (no referral link)
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=RTX+3090&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=RTX+3060+Ti&_osacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_sop=15

The price of used RTX 3060 Ti's is <$400 for me now.
Thank you, but these products will not be delivered to my country at the moment. This is a good price for such a video card, because it will be relevant in games and mining for a very long time. Are there any risks when buying these video cards? I prefer to do tests before buying used video cards.

In August of this year, the ethereum dag file will be equal to 5 GB and 5 GB video cards will be mined with a lower hashrate. These asics now look good with a payback of 200 days, the situation is worse for bitcoin asics and video cards.
2670  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: newest risers on: July 13, 2022, 08:13:37 PM
And why use 500-700w ATX for the motherboard, if an inexpensive, good quality power supply of 300-400 watts is enough, and connect the rest of the video cards to the server power supply?
Or does your server PSU not have enough power?
Because it only costs $10-15 more to get a 600w ATX supply than a 400w unit. That is a price of 15-20 watts/$ which is excellent.
I agree with you that modern computers use 500-700 watt power supplies and are easier to sell later.
But why use 2 power supplies? Is there not enough power in the server power supply or is there no adapter to power the motherboard?
This adapter costs less than a second power supply.
2671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RTX 2060 Super GPU BEST GPU for Mining? RTX 2060 Super Beat 1660 Super Mining? on: July 13, 2022, 08:09:14 PM
P106-100 6GB very old video cards, analogue of GTX 1060 for mining. I don't want to compare hashrate and power consumption
What's wrong with comparing hashrate/power usage between generations? Pascal only has 25% worse H/W compared to Turing on FLUX or XEQ. ETH is irrelevant because it will disappear one day.

If I can get a P106 6GB for $70 or a RTX 2060 super for $300 while I pay just 5.4¢/kWh effective for power, the choice is obvious. Even when accounting for the price of the system parts, the P106 has more profit per dollar.

The P106 6GB is not the same with the RTX 2060 Super which is 8 GB and can mine Ethereum more than the P106 6GB,the difference in hash rate is almost double in RTX 2060 Super which can do like 44.25 Mhsh compared to the near 25 Mhsh of the P106 6B so I don't see any real comparison between the two cards with RTX 2060 Super clear being the superior.I am thinking seriously to upgrade my mining rig with 1 such card or two of them and I will get almost 90 Mhsh for just 240 Watt which is not that bad, definitely the best card to buy now in our time as it is really cheap in price now.

Even if Eth disappears one day,ETC surely will be with us until the end of time as the developers of ETC told us they will keep it in PoW for as long as it will exist.
I would not bet on Ethereum mining classic because there will be a lot of ASICs that will go there after Ethereum mining.

I see a lot of offers to sell the 1660S video card, probably because it does not give the best performance when mining other coins.
2672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer E9 Launching July 6th, 2022 - 2400M @ 1920W (1.25 MH/Watt) on: July 13, 2022, 08:02:25 PM
There is always an opinion that these ASICs were mined when the profit was very large, and after the end of mining, the company decided to sell them. If they mine Ethereum Classic later, the payback could be long. Video cards are now cheaper.

Buying that device now I agree is a very wrong idea, sure we have Ethereum Classic that we can mine with a 6 GB memory like the E9 is equipped for years to come but it could take some years to ROI with the actual price of Ethereum Classic near 15 dollars or somewhat more at best. For example with the actual profit of this miner if you mine Ethereum Classic it is almost 30 dollars so if the price of the ASIC is 20.000 dollars divided by 30 it takes 666 days or nearly two year to ROI.

The only possibility I would buy this device is if I have money to spare which I don't know what to do with and keep accumulating like near 2 Ethereum Classic daily for when the next bull run will come, and this is not something I recommend nevertheless.
Bottom line, not a good idea to buy an ASIC nowadays.
I don’t like ASICs, but after the end of Ethereum mining, their price will drop dramatically, because there is nothing else to mine besides Ethereum Classic. Perhaps there are a few more coins, but there is no profit and no trading on the crypto exchange.
So soon it will be possible to buy cheap ASICs.
2673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is this video card? on: July 13, 2022, 07:51:48 PM
Now a very good price for video cards GeForce RTX3060 TI
https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90835112
2 RTX3060 TI video cards are more profitable in mining than one RTX3090 TI video card. If the 4000 series does not make outstanding results in mining, then the 3000 series will be popular in mining for a long time.

I got an evga 3060ti ftw from lenovo 502 usd after all coupons 440 which is cheap
I envy you, in my country it costs 900-1000 dollars.

Gamers may complain but I think gamers should not complain, the 3090 24 GB is capable of running anything paired with a good processor. For the miners,we would be happy to see the soonest the 4000 series hitting the market which would cause another drop in price in the 2000 and 3000 series
The RTX 3080/3090 series prices would be hit the hardest by the new generation. They have been the cards that have held their value the worst so far, with the RTX 3090 being $3000 last year but now you can get them for only $1000. The RTX 3080 10GB was $2000+ but now just $650.

Some AMD models like the RX 5000 series will suffer greatly because they're not good at non-ETH coins and are heavily used by miners. Radeon in general is more exposed to the crypto market.
I remember the suggested retail price for the RTX 3090 was around $1500.

If I were building the same mining farm, then I would put the coldest 3070 Ti video card last, and put the hottest video cards first. This will work if you use an open case and ventilation. But I would not build such a mining farm, very hot. I wish you good profit.

Don't you think it's a normal FUD?
The bitcoin hashrate chart does not show the termination of the miners. Mining gives more profit than bank loans. But I don't understand why companies didn't sell bitcoin at $60,000

Mining brings little income, the payback for ASICs and video cards is high, and when Ethereum mining ends, it will be even worse. If you have inexpensive electricity, then you might consider mining. But now there is no need to rush to buy mining equipment, because it will cost even less.

If it's not internet problems or overclocking, then why are you using this miner?
This miner works for me with about the same losses as other miners, so the reason for this result should be looked for in your settings and mining farm.

It has to be one motherboard that can put at least 2 power supplies, yeah I know that you can do a diy here but for maximum safety, is better done internally. A great motherboard is the asus b250 mining expert, you can put 3 psus and up to 13 gpus without issues.
I have had bad experiences with the B250 Mining Expert back in 2017/2018.

I like using a 500-700w ATX power supply for the MOBO + 1 or 2 video cards, then HP server power supplies for the remaining video cards. That is the cheapest combination while still having Gold/Platinum efficiency.
And why use 500-700w ATX for the motherboard, if an inexpensive, good quality power supply of 300-400 watts is enough, and connect the rest of the video cards to the server power supply?
Or does your server PSU not have enough power?
