You do realize that your estimate is incorrect? If BFL started shipping in January, we'd have the difficulty we have today by January 15th.
I didn't make a quote based on BFL having shipped everything. I only made it based on the curve we had up until now. Then on to what the curve will likely look like in the future. You are correct in that if BFL had shipped everything then the difficulty would have shot through the roof and probably by march the ASICs would not have produced anywhere near on track to 107 BTC. If that was your point then yes, in that you are spot on. Which if you look carefully at your own statement it is a self defeating means to profit. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Exclusivity or scaling is the only way to remain profitable. (unless you actually think BTC will reach 1000 USD and great inflows of dollars flow through the system) P.S. In which case, just buy and hold BTC rather than buy ASICs. It makes much more sense.

Each 500Gh/s unit should be around 2,300 to 2,400 watts. We are going to take some measurements after we get some food.
That is amazing. BFL came through. 500 Gh/s!!! Can be run from a double pole 15A circuit. Very nice. "Came through"?! It was supposed to be 1500 GH/s @ 1500 watts in October '12. Now it's 500 GH/s at 2400 watts in June '13. They didn't "come through". They blew it. I am working on releasing an estimate of how much the BFL owners lost before they actually got their shipments. So far I have only done some rough number with what a Jally should have made from January 1st, of 2013. The Jally should have produced roughly 107 BTC from January until now. But should only produce about 7 to 13 BTC for the rest of it's [useful] life. I based it on halving my own ASIC and estimating what it would have produced back in January 2013. I do not know how much (for certain) an ASIC was making back in January (or even October 2012 before the block halving). But if correct, BFL hardware (actually any ASIC hardware) has lost about 80 to 90% of it's generating value over the last year. Which means you will only get about 10 to 15% of the value of your hardware before it starts spitting out fractions so small that the fee to make the transfer is probably bigger. My numbers may be off, so that is why I haven't yet released that rough estimation. But they should be in the neighborhood.

What kind of cooling are you using for this room?
12 tons of high powered dc hvac. How much power does each unit actually take?

By the way, in normal businesses, people test their production environment before they make it live.
It seems like BitInstant failed to do proper testing of many different services before going live with the updated website. The issue to be seems kind of obvious.
I don't want to dislike your company. But every attempt to use your service always ended in very long delays. (none of which were my fault) I didn't even know I could get my fees back if you failed to deliver in 24 hours. I lost my fees on that previous transaction.
I assumed at first it was just a single bad experience. But after looking through the forums, it is extremely easy to see that these issues have been around for a while and they are simply never fully addressed.
The new website just exacerbates the issues that seem to have been long known on the old website.
Your website should be known for it's extreme reliability. Yet looking through the forum there are tons of cases where people did normal transactions that never finished and in some cases apparently lost their money after they gave up.
(see the post above mine to give you a good example)

Hello,
Just used BitInstant for the first time. Everything worked out nice and quickly. Unfortunately, in the half hour it took me to run to the store for the money gram, the price of BTC went up a bit. When all was said and done, I ended up with ~0.978 instead of 1.0 BTC. I guess there is no way to make up that difference? I'd hate to do another full order + fees + trip to the store just for that tiny amount.
Thanks.
Your price is not locked in when you create a quote. Regardless, if you think you have an issue that needs correction then it should go to support.bitinstant.com What do you mean it's not locked? Do you mean if we created a quote when 5 BTC equaled 500 USD...if it took 1 day for you to process and the price per BTC drops to 75...then we will get 375USD (before fees)? Our system has a hard deadline of 24 hours, past which customers are entitled to fee refunds and compensation for price changes. The soft deadline (which is what we aim to deliver the majority of orders in) is 1 hour, and between those 2 timeframes we don't make a formal commitment to prices other than market rate as determined by our partners at coinapult. You do realize that this is not directly implied on your website? That is one hell of a bombshell to drop on people. So basically, we don't actually know what rate we are getting until after we get it....? Everything about the BitInstant website leads a person to believe they are going to get a fixed transaction (1 BTC for a certain amount of USD) as soon as finalized or as soon as it is paid in full. You'd better make it more obvious that prices are honored when executed rather than when paid. (huge variance right there) Anyway: Order: df07ed15-e31f-48be-9d0f-da85a3a59c58 There was some hickups with my order getting processed. Apparently customer service alerted me that the blockchain took its sweet time to confirm my payment. Even though I made the payment a few seconds after receiving the BitInstant address several days ago. You can check the timestamp to confirm when the transfer was made. My order is still in limbo and I am definitely invoking the 24 hours clause. (fee free) This is all covered in our terms of service. Sorry for the delay on your order. We are working on a solution. Thanks. Any updates to my order? Order: df07ed15-e31f-48be-9d0f-da85a3a59c58 Please issue an immediate refund for my order. I lost count of how many days I have been waiting. It is probably my seventh day (7th). My issue wasn't even related to zipzap or coinapult or whoever. Been ignored by BitInstant support for the last 2 days. So just send the exact BTC (including BTC fees) back into my account. I have already found a reliable partner who can do this for me with almost no delay. (And no, they are not automated!) I can try to add additional instructions to your order that indicate a refund but that will likely add additional waiting time to your issue. Your call. Resolve it in any way you choose. Whatever is shorter. Just make sure whatever the resolution it is, it ends with 500USD at a Paypal account (without fees as it is past 24 hours) or a refund of 4.56xxxx BTC. Whatever is shorter. Time is money as your website header says. You lateness to deliver on the transaction has already cost me 35 dollars so far. Make sure to tell me what you chose and what you were capable of as a company. (P.S. I don't hold it against you URSAY, I simply hold it against BitInstant.)

From the auction: For every 1K under 25K on the final sales price will cause a delay in shipping by one week. Please do not bid if you have a problem with this!
Creative, but really? I'm not sure you can actually do that and not violate EBAY ToS... It would totally violate Ebay ToS. You have to ship it as soon as the buyer pays. Unless you have multiple days to "ship" it set on the auction.

Looks distinctly... old, scratched and used, not a nice polished surface. Maybe it's just the photos...
Have fun mining! Make sure to update with power usage.
I noticed that as well. Perhaps it wasn't painted well? The discoloration is kind of odd.

this is a four module tho :/
unfortunately, batch 3 probably won't arrive until july. and by then, the margins are razor. cloners coming out with 4 module avalons @ 36btc for 88g/hash. and terrahash and kncminer taking preorders, risk is pretty high for asics. let me know if price drops though, there is still opportunity if avalon gets there shit together. but i paid more than 100 BTC for this.. You got burned by the times.

Hey,
it seems that the fpga board of my avalon doesnt work anymore. So iam thinking about to resell the 3 modules of my avalon (batch1)
How much BTC would you offer me per modul?
They worked fine until i hit the "reboot" button in the webui
Candoo, Make your case that your buyers will be getting a good deal @ 70BTC for 22Gh/s) for this module. Do it with hard math. If not, you'll simply fail to justify it like Yantis units. @ 250BTC ---------------------- You are selling your unit for 70 x 3 modules = 210BTC. The estimated return for an entire overclocked Avalon @ 71GH/s is about 105 BTC. Divide that by three and you come out to ~ 30-35BTC per module. Now choose a given percentage of that you think is reasonable for that future production of BTC.Will you sell it at 35BTC...? If so, then this be like a miners shortcut to getting his profits for the next year from some dupe/fool who didn't do his math! Let say 50% of that future reward. (not including the electricity costs or internet fees to keep the miner going) 15 to 17 BTC? Sounds like that offer was made. I prefer a 25% ratio of future profits. 8.99 BTC. --------------------- From what I see, you have dilema yourself. A) You want 70 BTC. about 200% of the future BTC production of the module. B) You have a broken Avalon that isn't mining anymore. So the buyer will have to pay you double what it will produce in the future for you to feel satisfied. They will never see the return for their purchase.
|
|
|
I ask 70 BTC per module
You paid $1300 for this first batch Avalon... made a lot of BTC (200+) and now asking 3x70 BTC ... You're way to greedy for my taste. So you would sell me Your avalon for 80 btc?? I buy it! It's not "would you?" It is "you have to" if you want it to actually sell.

Day 6. Nothing.
Bitinstant you suck ass!

Sigh, Day 6 maybe 7.... I finally asked for a refund and am ignored by customer service for over 2 days.

This is all pretty standard for bitinstant - has been for a couple years now.
If you're still using them, you're either a total noob or very stupid. Either way, STOP USING THEM!!!
Indeed. Excuse me for being a noob and failing to see this. I humbly apologize for being their customer.

They switched packaging facilities afaik. Maybe one is from the new one?
Cheaper but less precise I take it??

Does it have the flux capacitor working?
Can the box travel back to 2010 and mine for me from back then?
If so, I am in!

this is really serious, I've thought that BFL was doing this, now AVALON just went to my red-zone as well, it seems that ASICMINER is the only honet company (but with extreme prices)
Uh, ASICMiner also mines with their blades. They openly have a farm and continue to expand it. Apparently, all three companies do this. Which is surprising coming from Avalon.
