2681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient Proof of HDD Capacity Mining | No IPO, No Pre on: August 12, 2014, 04:13:39 PM
So, in order to use more HD space, you just have to make another run_generate.bat and run that? You can up the 800000 to something higher in order to use more space, this is correct, right? Just want to make sure I know what I am doing. I have 12+ TB I can use, so I would like to use a lot of it. Thank you in advance for answers  Tongue

You need to pick up from where you left off. If I remember correctly the filename will tell you the nonce that you stopped at.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I am not quite sure what you mean... right now I started my test with the default of 800000, it's currently generating from nonce 37500, once this is complete, I assume it will be at 800000... at that time, can I just start another run_generate, or do I have to do something to add to the one that is already done?

My overall goal here is to use 5-10 TB of my hdd space on this server, thank you for the assistance!

You can then replace the starting nonce in run_generate with 800001, to start from there. If you just restart it, it'll start at 37500 again and basically wipe all your generated data.

So, when this one is finished, I start another with 800001 to start from there, how do I up the amount of space it uses? I want to make it use more.

2687  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s1 ($130 a piece) Worth it??? on: August 01, 2014, 08:31:34 PM
Thank you very much for all of your replies.

I am not new to mining, I am a GPU miner, who is selling his 17 GPUs and moving into the ASIC realm.

My reasons for mining are to hold, and hopefully have a decent savings later on in life. (unfortunately I have had many issues come up recently that forced me to sell every coin I have made, which would have been around 20 BTC, this is very upsetting, but life goes on)

I think, after this post and many others reading, that I am going to wait until I sell my hardware, and pick up some s3's, it seems like the best way to go, as no, I don't have free power, but I do have relatively cheap power, and a really nice circuit in my house that's capable of running quite a bit of hardware.

The s1's I am speaking of are a local deal, so there would be no shipping.

I just think that the power usage of the s1's is too high, and that getting s3's is a better idea.

Thanks again everyone who replied!
You're certainly correct on the power usage of the S1.  Stock clocks call for 360W at the wall.  Most everyone reported the S1 consumed at least that amount.  Overclocked, and you're 400 plus.  The S3 is 340W at the wall for 440GH/s.  Less power, about 2.5 times the hash.

I really appreciate the effort you put into your response, and thank you for not immediate jumping on the whole "OMG IT WILL NEVER ROI, NOTHING WILL EVER ROI MINING IS DEAD STFU OMG!!" bandwagon. I am not looking for immediate profit, I love mining, and I love supporting the bitcoin network/community. Even if they don't ROI, I will have had fun and made at least something back, and hopefully btc will go up in value when I have a nice stash, and a good little savings account for when I'm older.

Thanks again!

PM sent. Thanks!

The reason I want to win, is to take my now 8 month old baby, and the rest of my family, on a disney world vacation in 2019. So I will hold the winnings until then, and you never know how much it's going to be worth at that time, and it will help contribute to our vacation. Thanks for the awesome contest! Grin

2691  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Antminer s1 ($130 a piece) Worth it??? on: July 31, 2014, 07:03:41 PM
I have the opportunity to acquire 5 antminer s1's for 130 dollars a piece. I am simply looking for advice here as to whether you guys would go for it, or wait a little while and buy some s3's? Those are my two options, I know the s3's would be better on power, but overall what do you think, should I go for the s1's or pick up some s3's about a month down the road?

Thank you in advance for your opinions!

2692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is one GPU mining even feasible now? on: July 27, 2014, 03:53:51 AM
You asked if one GPU mining is feasible.

The problem isn't lying with 1 or 10 GPUs, but rather that generally speaking, GPU mining isn't profitable anymore unless you're really vigilant as Amph said.

Setting and forgetting doesn't cut it anymore (for the most part).

Okay, got it. Thanks for a straight answer. Now extension, was it ever?

Oh yes, there were a few different times where gpu mining was VERY profitable, but I'm afraid those times are gone, I for one, am selling all of my gpus, about 17 of them, so that I can buy asics. They are pretty much the only way to mine anymore, and even they aren't that profitable, but I just like mining, so I will continue to mine. There were times when I made 75 a day with only 3 280x's, then times where those same 280x's made me 1BTC in a day when MAX came out. Good times, but those times are long gone. Sucks for new miners, but it is what it is.

2695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 99,9% ARE SHITCOINS - so don't waste your time or money on: July 21, 2014, 08:57:31 PM
I think there are a few out there that can do well.

With that said, there are just too many shit coins coming out by the day. Pretty much if the "dev" has the name of the coin as their screen name, I pass up 99% of them.

Plus, people need stuff to mine, without the interest BTC would be on the slow track. Think of how many newbies coins like DOGE ( gag ) got into the crypto game....

+1

This is exactly what I was going to say, you completely beat me to it. Most of the new coins are garbage, but there are that 1% that actually have true innovation and good devs etc.

I believe one of these to be Monero. That's all I will say on this. But definitely don't fall victim to all of the nonsensical bs coins out nowadays, we would all be much better off if most of them fell by the wayside...
2696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: LATIUM on: July 21, 2014, 07:02:35 PM

so i say thx karlb keep up the good work and if your thinking of joining get in soon  Grin

2697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: LATIUM on: July 18, 2014, 03:56:00 PM
I am sorry but this is a "Lifetime" membership and is not refundable. Don't worry, ALL member's will see great result in time. This is not a service that makes a thousand referrals in a day because you can't do that... at least not with real referrals (people that will join, download the wallet and get referrals of their own). My system is pure marketing and that takes time. I have about 30 lifetime members and some have seen 5 referrals in a few hours and some have not. Things will even out over time.

Think of your purchase as an investment into your Latium network and don't forget you get paid on 99 more levels from the referrals i get for you so you will make more than that 5LAT from just one referral. (I made over 1000LAT from just one referral so I know).

Just trust in me and I will deliver but it takes time..not 24 hours.

I just wonder in something sir , Why not contract with LAT Admin , and Lets Say make Deposite in 3 times , 0.01 BTC for each ? so you tell the your clients when they have for example 65 LAT They Pay You and that by Latium admin moderation , And So You can Get Your Earnings from clients in less a month when they have a specific amount of LAT , This is just an idea , If I was this promo owner I do like that , so my client can trust me.

The admin doesn't have time to mess with my projects.

You can trust me. As time goes on you will see better reviews. This person joined 24 hours ago and already got one referral. Some days are better than others but over time this will make you way more than you put in.

i don't need lifetime membership or something like that.

i just need my Latium Please

and you can get 40 my Latium in 24 Hours than give me 150 Lat.
i was sent you total 190 Lat

please get back my Latium

Did you not read dude? That's not how it works. He won't give you a refund because as is stated, there are no refunds, and it is a LIFETIME membership. So just wait it out man, you'll get your money in a slower fashion, everything isn't all about right now!

I am very excited to be part of your group, and look forward to your skills helping me gain LAT, thanks again! I so far haven't seen anything show up in my wallet, but on the site it says I have had like 12 hits or something in a day, so i'm already stoked, as it's apparent that something is going on, and all I did was give you .03 BTC. So I know it wasn't me who did it. Gotta be you! lol.

Anyway, thanks again, and even though I have yet to see any lat in my wallet, it seems like it's working, and I appreciate your efforts. Continue the good work!
