1981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.0 Automated Transactions on: December 26, 2014, 02:31:32 AM
Forgive me for asking but what is the purpose of using hard drive capacity to mine anyway? Is the free space put to some use? Like for storing files and such? Or is it just a proof-of-concept for an alternative to the traditional proof-of-work schemes?
It's an alternative to POW schemes that should discourage the increasing centralization that's been occurring with them. By having mining speed bound by standard hardware users already have and drawing negligible electricity to mine with it, normal users mining with their existing hardware while they are using it can mine effectively for free, and as farms have far more overhead to operate and are unable to gain efficiency advantages with specialized hardware, farms shouldn't be able to achieve as high hashrate/operatingcost as normal users, which should help keep the network decentralized.

Ah, excellent explanation thanks. So I would think that proof-of-capacity is ASIC proof then?
While it is possible an ASIC could be created that achieves better hashrate/W than actually storing the plot files, the advantage could easily be taken away by increasing plotting complexity, which would decrease ASIC hashrate/W, and although it would increase drive plotting times, it would have no impact on resources required to mine with HDDs after space is plotted.

Every time I read anything from our amazing dev, I realize that he's the best dev in crypto. Thanks again dev, for everything!

If you have multiple disks on the same PC, what's the best way to mine? By multiple I mean a dozen or more. Are there any more user friendly miners for such mining? It seems like most miners you have to run multiple instances in order to mine on more then one drive.
Burst.today is a good one to try.. always gives me problems and I've heard complaints though... hopefully that one gets fixed up soon because it would be awesome to have an easy plotter.

We will pretty soon publish a new Win guide written by crowetic. Should be before new years at the very laters.

I've been looking at the google doc guide, but it doesn't outline multi-HD mining very well and even after reading it, I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to do for it.

Like plotting they don't mention overlap nuances, but how do you do that for multiple HDs?

It's the same exact process, just with multiple drives. you can just make sure you don't overlap on ANY drives that are in the same account, and you're good to go. The guide explains exactly how to do things, just literally follow it exactly, and you'll get it.

Anyone want to open burstcoin casino? I am intrested in play texas holdem poker with burstcoin.

I have already proposed the idea of live BURST texas hold em, however, I am unable to find a developer who has the time and knowledge to accomplish it.

If anyone knows someone who would be able to do something like this, I would be the first person to donate 250k.

Let's find someone who can do this for us! BURST is the perfect coin to use for poker!

All these new pools popping up it's crazy! Are there any pools not based on uray's source that aren't the official pools? Do you guys think the uray source pools are better?

http://burst.ga is in development of COMPLETELY NEW POOL SOURCE. This means that we will have completely different pool soon, we will have more stats, more features, and different possible options that the other pools do not have. We are focusing on making the pool's stats be the main portion, and fix the bugs in Uray's code. We are also going to change the payout system, to make it more fair for everyone. However, I think I'm going to make the payout system lean towards larger miners, most likely. Then, if it goes like I plan. I plan to open another pool or two.

This will be made into a legit announcement soon, but I just wanted everyone to know my plans for http://burst.ga and we're going to have the only pool with source that no one else has. I'm VERY excited about this.

The new code is currently in test phase, and there's already a server up and running with the test pool on it.

The next step will be a closed beta, which I will post an announcement for, and allow people to sign up. Once the closed beta has been completed, and everyone is happy with the outcome, I will do an open beta. Then, once the open beta is good, we work out any kinks that are still there, and get all the miners to a place where they're happy, I will shut down Uray's source completely, and move over to the new code permanently.

I believe wholeheartedly that the new source code will provide us with the edge on all other pools. The stats we're planning will attract miners, because the current pools don't have much in the way of stats at all, so we went the opposite way, and did as many stats as possible.

The front end isn't done, so the front end looks kinda silly at the moment, but it will be fixed. We're more worried about the back end of course.

Anyways, I just wanted everyone to know what my plans are with the pool and the future. I will keep everyone updated with the status, and right now, the status is "closed testing phase". No one is currently mining on the test pool, it's taking submissions from the other pool and manipulating them to test payout system, etc.

The closed beta will be started as soon as possible.

BURST to the moon!

I'd have to agree. The price seems a little high especially with S5 units on the very near horizon. I'd think $170/per is pretty good shipped. Then bulk discounts could possibly go lower?

Thanks!

agreed, and I will be interested if the price goes to this.

Also it would be nice if some of you can contribute towards the lottery (as initial capital) , so we can have a better reward for the first winner of the first decentralized, trustless lottery ever.

I need both YOUR wallet for your 50k donation I'm giving you, and the lottery wallet for the 25k I'll send there. Thanks!

edit : I see yours in the sig. just need the other.

edit2: I just sent you 75k donation, awaiting the wallet ID for the lottery, so I can send 25k there as well.

Sorry for thread hijack, but everyone who owns LTCGear Shares may be interested in this.

YES, EVERYONE LOG INTO THEIR LTCGEAR ACCOUNTS AND CHANGE THEIR ADDRESSES, MINE WERE CHANGED AND MY OVER 1.5 GH OF SCRYPT POWER WOULD HAVE BEEN PAID TO SOMEONE ELSE, THIS IS BAD!

Thank you pilot, and sorry for yelling, but it's important!

Also Max Keiser doesn't have a public email address. I have tried to contact him before.

max at his full name dot com
stacyherbert at the g mail dot com

but he has his own crypto so may not be the champion that you seek.

Yea, I was just gonna say that, he's got his own coin, so why would he be interested in ours? I mean, given, his coin sucks. but yea. lol.

I just had an idea. http://startjoin.com is one of his pet sites. I think that he is part owner. Maybe if the marketing group was to start some sort of crowd funding project on his site, he may take notice and start talking about it. Taking it to the extreme, he may even go so far as to want to do an interview with the DEV...if he is willing to step into the public eye. There is a whole cryptocurrency section:

https://www.startjoin.com/projects/discover/Cryptocurrency

I would suggest if you want to start a crowdfund better to do it with an AT. I have the crowdfund use case ready. So if anyone wants to use it for crowdfunding his projects just tell me and I will modify the case to your needs.

Fantastic, use the ATs for the crowdfunding, such a great idea.

I am interested in having this ability, can you please provide me with whatever is necessary? Thank you!

Also, I think the stuff for automatic asset payouts would be useful as well.

Thanks!

got this private message Today and my response, big up for trying though as I quoted before cost of running BURST mining (> 5,000$) and attention that has to be given to it (pretty much every 4 to 8 hours one needs to check if USB flow is uninterrupted for example, btw USB drives <in a frequency once a day or every two days> do disconnect on occasion)

--[ANNOUNCEMENT]--

I will be updating the http://burst.ga server today to the new version. So there will be downtime. I will do my best to get everything back up and running ASAP.

Thanks!

Edit: Server is back up with 1.2.0, everything should be fine. Thank you for your patience!

I also added another processor core to the server, so responsiveness should be better, but I'm really just awaiting the new pool code, which is in development and testing. I will be making more announcements regarding this soon, but I'm extremely busy with both BURST and non-BURST projects. So yea. But I always keep people updated.

Accept Paypal from me?  Grin

Do you have any references from well known forum members?  I am willing to consider it.

I traded with him before, he paid me upfront(in BTC though), I shipped.  Quick and easy and solid communication throughout.

Thanks for the rep Smiley but I think I may have spent all the money I'm going to spend today. haha.

I may still be interested in this post, but I have to check a few things. I'll keep you updated.
