2682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: June 13, 2014, 04:09:44 AM
Ugh... Are you kidding me? Are there bots prowling the network with a boatload of password-account combinations stored watching the for transactions to known addresses or something?

I got some NXT a long time ago and kept it tucked away, but with the updated client it seems I didn't have a public key, so I sent a message.. easy enough... my balance was there, but I couldn't forge because it was unconfirmed... so I figure this has something to do with old balances being 'unconfirmed' under the updated protocol until it's seen activity.. So I flip my NXT into another account that I used in the past (tx 3603756272827733121), wait for it to confirm, and as soon as it does the NXT has moved on to an account out of my control (tx 10738856805317237622)...!!!

WTF? I sat here waiting for a confirm to flip it right back, and it vanishes before my very eyes! We're talking within 2 seconds of the first confirmation!

If the network is this compromised, how do you ever expect mainstream adoption... I've had an eye on NXT since the beginning and was really into the new look and feel, the asset exchange, etc.. My interest was building in NXT again (initially less than impressed by the distribution, but it seemed a lot of great work had gone into the protocol..) Too bad.. Nxt looked cool, but as it stands I'm out.. Not sure that this can be called a 2nd generation crypto when it's this vulnerable to theft. I'd say the target audience is even more specialized than bitcoin; the average joe can hardly remember "Password1"!

You should use 2 passwords. One that you save locally or on the cloud that has back ups and redundancies and that you dont actually memorize, and one that you do memorize and never save on any computer that touches the internet. Then simply concatenate the two passwords when entering your wallet. The first will protect you against rainbow tables (thats what got you) and the second will protect you against hackers. Its a pretty simple concept but it really should be spelled out, its certainly not peoples fault for not knowing this. Heck the client should even come with two password fields and concatenate them for people imo.

If anyone has any interest in using paypal, credit card or debit card to acquire NXT, my silver bullion gateway project makes it possible. I made a thread dedicated to this here: https://nxtforum.org/silver-bullion-gateway/my-gateway-allows-to-aqire-nxt-using-a-credit-card-and-make-a-profit-doing-it/ pm me if you have any questions.

For people with no patient, there are other coin out there with faster confirmation.

What can I buy with those coins, other than bitcoin? Cheesy

I sell silver for nxt.
2687  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins are not user friendly what-so-ever on: June 11, 2014, 04:20:17 PM
I find the blockchain.info smart phone app to be very user friendly. press receive button, bitcoins come in, press send button, they go out, add a fee if you want faster processing, don't if you are willing to wait. That's pretty much all there is to it. You are saying its so complicated but thats only because you somehow managed to miss basically the only thing that you need to know. Roll Eyes

How long does it usually take gdex to process a NXT withdrawal request?

Use cryptsy next time. I used them today and man was it smooth.

dgex did send me my NXT. I tool about 14 hours after the request. But, that's fine. Better than the 3900ish that was stolen from me buy sharexcoin.

I've just heard to many bad things about cryptsy. Seems BTER has the least "complaints" but they do charge .5% + 1 NXT to withdraw.

yes ive heard those same bad things. i only used cryptsy because bter wasnt working at all for me. the buy and sell buttons were inactive for what ever reason. it didnt even show the button depression animation when i clicked them.

My gut tells me this might be legit.

Download the client and play around with it, then you wont have to rely on your gut, you will be able to trust your eyes Wink. Tell me your address and ill send you a few nxt.

Well Anon, I saw this and followed your advice and downloaded the client. Wow. Had to actually register here on the forum (lurked forever, never needed to say anything before now though) to state how damn nice it is. Saw the asset exchange tab, did a bit of googling and found some details (what assets are, how to use them, how to play with them) - double wow. A "stock exchange" from within the client?

Guess I need to grab some nxt to play further, asset exchange looks way too much fun. I'm guessing most alt-coin exchanges have it if it's #3 market cap? Also, what's the official forum for NXT? I've found a few.

Dan from Aus.

NXT-WU35-C6JC-MP9B-HMEYX

awesome story! ill send the nxt in a bit. the official forum is nxtforum.org

Did cryptsy really resolve their withdrawal problems?

Of course this is only anecdotal evidence, but my experience was tops. Very impressed.

*edit* oh also i did do a withdrawal. seems like important information given your question.

Banking systems differs quite a bit from NXT, borrowing creates more money and money multiplier formula, so i dont quite understand how thats suppose to be good thing that, guys how have allready huge amount of nxt are the ones who benefit most.

Someone with 1000 nxt doesnt "benefit more" than someone with 100. He only receives 10 times as much in forging rewards, but he has ten times as much stake, and 10 times as much opportunity cost. Inorder for him to benefit more, he would have to recieve 11 or 12 ect times as much as someone with 100 nxt. Each unit of nxt benefits each individual exactly as much as any other unit of nxt. If each one of us had a million dollars in assets and i decided to allocate 900 thousand to bonds and 100 thousand to nxt and you decided to allocate 900 thousand to nxt and 100 thousand to bonds, you wouldnt be "benefiting more than me" because you sacraficed 900 thousand dollars worth of bond yields in order to acquire that nxt stake. Now of course if just generally wealther than you and so am able to afford more nxt than you, than sure im in a better place than you, but that has nothing to do with nxt specifically, that just comes from the fact that i am wealthier than you in general.

Would be possible that whale who owns big amount of NXT can have lets say 5% "interest" by forging ? Because in this case he would not borrow any of the money for less interest rate ?
well its not a big deal because its entirely negated by the fact that the person recieving the funds has the exact same expected return on investment as the one lending would have had had he not lend the funds. So sure the recipient would have to pay a higher interest rate, but that would be canceled out by the gains the he himself is making on the funds that he borrowed.

I dont mean to be againt nxt, but just dont quite get it how that POS system will under terms of monetary system.
no offense taken. these are rather complicated questions that surely require a little bit of serious thought to think through from anyone, no matter how smart they are.

Thats sound little odd, when NXT is suppose to be a currency system, where you get somehow rewarded when concentrating units?

How can a monetary system works if it kind a againts spending ?

People borrow money at interest dont they? even though they have to pay back more than they borrowed later. Money spent now is worth more than money later. its called time preference. sure forging will cause some people on the margins to chose not to buy something they otherwise would have bought, but only people on the margins. To take an extreme example no one is going to starve to death because they could have more money tomorrow if they dont buy food today. This same principal applies to less extreme examples. A new computer will always be cheaper later than it is today, yet people still buy computers every day, LOTS of them infact.

Thanks for all the information guys. I have much to learn and even more work to acquire enough bit coin to make it worthwhile. I do appreciate the time you guys have taken to explain in some more detail.

I did reach one whole bit coin today finally so that is a start.  Cheesy

That is a pittance compared to most people but I started from scratch in March and built it up using faucets and then small investments so I feel kind of proud of it.

7billion/21million=333. You have 333 times as many bitcoins as the average human being. If bitcoins ever become really big and used by most of the people in the world, you will be in a VERY good position.

Dark Escrow

Would anyone be interested in this? The idea is that i would run a nxt orderbook but unlike a normal orderbook it would be kept secret. If you placed a buy or sell order you wouldnt know whether it would be filled, you wouldn't know who filled it, and most importantly it wouldn't move the price of nxt. This sort of thing would require a very high degree of trust granted, but i think i have worked very hard to earn the trust of this community. My fee would be higher than normal, im thinking 2% instead of my usual 1% because i would have to manage the orderbook and everything also. Also this service would be for serious players. Small fish can just go to the exchanges and they dont have to worry about moving the market, so this would have a minimum order size. What do you guys think? would anyone be interested?

Granted that since protecting peoples privacy would be an important part of this service, if you would be interested feel free to tell me so in a pm instead of in this thread. If i get enough people to agree to place orders than ill go ahead and start this thing.
