1865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 01, 2015, 03:50:30 AM
I am kind of hoping for a shake-out event.  Perhaps too late though.  Definitely not inclined to undertake or support any manipulation.  But when it happens, I will definitely seek to exploit it.

Moneroj will be shaken out at a higher price. Right now this is a mere flashback for those holding since last summer. It provides validation to keep the mental strength to hold for longer, not to cash out. Cool

This is a very astute observation. You are describing me quite well. I myself am feeling this way. If the market goes parabolic enough I will look to sell and buy back at better valuations. But what I'm seeing right now is only giving me confidence to hodl.

1868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR vs DRK on: March 31, 2015, 04:55:16 PM
A consequence of "more" redundant systems is an increase in probability of component errors, and in Dark's case having more components only increases probability of overall system failure.

When you plug up one hole the juice just squirts out another. You will always need more eye patches (see components).

no way man. the science of cryptography is a never ending battle of attrition. the ring signatures that monero uses will be broken some day. count on it. that doesnt mean we cant have a hell of a party while they hold and make some great use out of them before they are broken Grin

that would be after BTC tho, since the crypto algos behind XMR are "safer", quite literally at the elliptic curve (doesnt mean BTC isn't), btw I dont expect BTC to be broken any time soon (aka I doubt it will happen before quantum PCs are the norm).

Probably it will be a while i agree. As an analogy, even if hammers are useless 100 years from now does that mean that everyone everywhere should stop manufacturing and using hammers right now? I think not. They are pretty damn useful right now, and will continue to be for some time so we should definitely get as much use out of them as we can so long as they are useful.
1871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 31, 2015, 05:20:30 AM
188 btc wall got eaten at 0.004 and then another 40 btc wall went right back up in its place. Taking some profit was tempting but there hasn't been an opportunity to buy back lower after selling in weeks. Even 5-10 btc will move the market 5% most of the time.

We've never had anything like Monero before, in terms of added value. Litecoin was the previous bar set and it has no fundamental difference over Bitcoin.

Nxt is pretty damn cool if you take the time to understand how it works under the hood. I got lucky on stumbling upon nxt early because i was trying really hard to solve a problem and then bcnxt came along and solved it for me. (i thought it was insoluble) I was so impressed i bought a bunch then and there. This is not a plug for nxt, it seems to be dying. I sold a ton to take my monero position. Its still cool tech though. Really cool.

*edit* with the exception of one time pads. those are a priori secure forever.

Get excited over Monero's recent price climb
https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/monero/btc/max_days
Remember its peak, it used to be more than 2x its value today  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Yea but it isn't a particularly meaningful data point considering altcoins do that. Everyone gets excited when they first come out yet there is almost no supply, then interest wanes at the same time that more supply comes online.

Monero Off-topic - A Thread For the Monero Community to Discuss Non-xmr Topics

Have something that you wish to discuss with the monero community that would be off topic in other threads? This is the place.

Something wrong with your link.

The monero.cc forum has an off-topic board Smiley

Sure I know that. Still doesn't necessarily mean that people wouldn't be interested in the idea.

What idea is that? You mean an off-topic Monero thread on BCT? You create and I'll follow!

1 person is good enough. i mean whats the worst that can happen? the thread dies on the vine? they don't cost anything to make Smiley

*edit* i dont think i can get away with putting it in the altcoin section. badbear will probably chastise me. it will have to go in off topic i think.

Sometimes im tempted to want to talk to people who are involved in monero about non monero related topics and i feel awkward doing it here. What do you guys think of the idea of making a thread for this community for off topic discussion?
