2681  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 28, 2014, 08:15:38 AM
So I did a little experiment with one of my Antminer S3+ units (One of the better performing ones that is able to hold any frequency setting for long durations without any 'Xs.' I essentially tested out each of the frequency settings and compared them to the wattage numbers used at that setting with 110v power, then tested again at 230v.  The results of my testing are below:

In essence, what I found was somewhat obvious...that you get better Joules/Gh at 230V than you do at 110V, regardless of the frequency the miner is set to.  I also found that the 'sweet spot' of energy used per GH/s is around the 200 MHz mark (200 MHz @ 230v and 206.25 MHz @ 110v.)  I noted that in green, which incidently was the only reading that matched the 'published' efficiency numbers.  A few notes about my testing:

1. I left each of them at the specific MHz frequency for exactly 3 hours, then recorded the Wattage and Average hashrate at that time. I was off by a few minutes sometimes, but suffice it to say I left them for at least three hours. I did note that this number is more accurate the longer you wait...however, I didn't have so much time to play with this, so there may be some variation that I couldn't account for or the numbers may change more significantly over time.

2. I used the same Antminer for every setting, the same PS (Corsair CX750 with all four PCI-E cables plugged in) and the same Kil-a-watt unit for each test.  I was using the 8/11 firmware on the unit with the updated cgminer version (4.6.0-140908) posted by ckolivas.

3. The one major variable I couldn't control for was ambient air temperature, which was generally about 5C warmer in the 230V location than in the 110V location, plus during the day there were fluctuations. This likely would affect efficiency, though probably not by too great of a deal.

4. I used three variables which you don't see here...the price per kilowatt/hour ($0.10,) the current price of BTC in USD ($351.59,) and the amount of BTC/Gh/day based on difficulty (0.00001398 currently)

5. I included the power usage of the unit above when it is not hashing (noted as 0) just to note the overhead that the system takes up if it is on but not running.

Anyway, hope you can get some use out of this...at a minimum it taught me that it's not just a myth that 230V is more cost-efficient than 110V, but when it comes down to it, it's only more efficient by 1 or 2 cents a day...

wow nice and ty man  I applied this some what to my last 2 S1 till i replace them sense i don't like the idea of penciling them  . it actually dropped my power usage like 100 watts or a little more per S1 at these setting .

        #option 'freq_value'    '0b81'  #300M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '300'
        #option 'timeout'       '45'

and my two  S3 are set to

231  i get little oC in there with kind of nice saving on power .

Why is the S4 $400.00 more than bitmaintech.com website?

it is  the US your ordering from  over sea you pay for shipping so I'm guessing it all even out don't know , i don't buy much from over seas.

don't want a s2 or S4 waiting mostly for the L1 and  C1 to see how they fan out Smiley .

It doesn't cost $400.00 for shipping from China for the S4 from bitmaintech.com

It cost $42.47 for shipping.

Total: $1292.47

I don't know why . I just  linked it for some one who wanted a S3 fast on this forum. as much as i hate to I'm temped to but two more S3 from china off the china site in about a month i want to replace the rest of my S1 i have two left to replace then im gonna set tight and wait for n the L1 and C1  to see just how they do.

And bc i luve in canada.    Nine of these bitcoin miner manufactureres operate in canada meanibg... long wait for shipment, big shipping cost. And ppossibly customs fee.

Such a pain.  But bugger is better

check it out they also have canada links . for shipping Smiley .

I see so many that complain  that live in the US till they see that .

I love this pool, from time to time it gives a very good yield but its like anything it comes and goes i keep looking for the best poss fastest way of mining .

damn   $522 for 2 minets with shiping or $380 /w free shipping...    not bad if ur buying singles at a tine.   But not worth it for bulk buys.    Still beats the cist if my first s3s which cost me $450.00.   I got like 1500.00 worth of s1s and i only paid for 3-4 of them.no joke.

S4s for ne are going to wait till like b3-5  s3s fir biw.  Mke a rickminer to pull 800gh/s

But hmm.   This gets ny hopes yp

I don't think it is intended for bulk buys you have call for that to see what they will do in the US .. BUT IT IS THEM with US support and sells go to the S3 thread it tells you that .
even links that link.  they even now have a ebay store and Amazon store they told me about when they replaced my defective S3 in the US with free shipping to them and me .

and gave me some prices on

one s3 + controller 75 USD
One hash board  175

i forgot the price for one fan then

with shipping  5.85 .

Sorry, this is obviously not Bitmaintech themselves.  This is an approved distributer (middle man) of theirs... maybe.  Not paying the extra "juice" for a middle man.  I had no problem with bitmaintech getting six S3's shipped here straight from China.  Much cheaper from bitmaintech.com

It is a bitmains site in the US honestly i called them for support they replaced my miner here in the US like i said up farer .  don't know what to say if you don't beve me it is .

I like the setup compact but seems to work great.

Probably a year or so from now if iv got a warehouse owned or a small 50x50x20 room   i will be setting it all up wit miners.      My goalis to be a smal btc farm that has obe of the highest amounts of hashing power.

Working on college for IT which is my start to owning my owb small business.  My goal is to reach  is extravagent but the thigs iv seen and heard.   I believe i can make  50x50x20 structure with 15-20+ th/s

Hardest part is finding the funds to make this all happen while faceing the debts of schooling

I find it INCREDIBLY fascinating seeing others mining setups.   Its quite interesting.

I understand how student loan debt goes.  My wife is an accountant.  She had a lot of student loan debt at one time.  It's paid off now.  I go my education from the United States Marine Corp.  However, the economy has slowed down my business of training telephone technicians as of late.  They've cut budgets a lot over the last few years.  When they do, "training" is one of the first things they cut.  So, I had to come up with something to make up for lost income.  Mining was the ticket... I HOPE!!!

Yes, I too like to look at other set ups in the forums on here and on youtube.

I'm determined to get between 23 and 30 TH/s going eventually in this closet with temperatures on all rigs no higher than 43 or 44 degrees Celsius with the door closed.

I REALLY BELIEVE that 14 inch exhaust fan with 16 inch filtered return grill will get me there concerning the temperatures.  I may end up selling the S3's on eBay some day and replacing them with S4's as well in the future.

Thanks for the comments.

I did make a mistake buying the 8 inch exhaust fan.  Hopefully, others can learn from my mistake if they too decide to do their set up inside a small 3.5 feet x 5.5 feet closet similar in size to mine.

That was ny concern to.   I needed a source of income while in school  when i dont have an income atm.    As u said     Bitcoin was the answer.    Its been slow.  But its helping.

Thinking of ordering 2 s3s from bitmain and possibly sell some of my s1s.   Or create a better setup for my outside on the balcony setup( id shiw picsbut its bot near me)

The downfall.    That setup  in the summer.  That hit 55- 60c  theres s1s with 2 200rpn coolermaster fans in each(which i think rises the heat)

But once winters comes, wont have to worry about them getting hot.   I think the heat will just nelt the snow. Im at 1.4th/s atm.

THank god i have yet to worry about hydo cost D

Spent $3.00 on btc when it hit like $320/btc.    Cashing it out when we hit $450-600/btc+   turn 3.00 into 10 is my plan.

WOW...  55 to 60 Celsius was getting pretty hot.  I would try to replace those S1's with S3's as soon as possible.  They both use the same watts but the S3's are more than twice the hashing power.  Of course, you know that.

My power costs are really outstanding compared to most other States:

Summer (June-Sept)               Winter (Oct-May)
Base Charge   $14.50               Base Charge   $14.50
First 1000 kWH   $0.077823       First 750 kWH   $0.077823
Over 1000 kWH   $0.080352       Over 750 kWH   $0.065823

Haha.     Not bad.   My old housewas .08centkwh so i always win.   Now   i run all my miners on hydro i dont pay Cheesy.

Ye it is hot.   Gets scary.   There gonna be ny s3 soon(ill pist a  pic of the setup this weekend(morr mods coming)    i have all the stock fans off of these 2 miners which doesnt help much.

I run an s1and s3 at home in ny bedroom..... lol weird right..... naw ny oen freeheat source(which iv got reduced by about 3 -5c.    Got a small intake from in my window to force in the cold air and a medium sized fan industrial grade (but quite)   on the intake side if my miners blowing the  heat up.

(Been thinking if anither fan to pull the heat and vlow it through my houses duck wirk.

Meh.   Its a slow WIP. But i live by spend money to make money.

Dk if illl find any s3s for .42-.52 btc with shippping included.   But i hope so.   Im afraud to buy from bitmain bc of the thibgs iv heard about their lack of care or support etc.     But itl all work out i hope.

Ine thing ill need.. for sure is A/C.   S3s dont rlly need anymore cooling besided a cool area aroubd them(even then mines never breached 46)

Yea the s3suse 5-10% less watts and using 750w psus for all of mine Cheesy

Arg.   I got 2 s1s just sitting in ny closet collecting dust bc idk whrre to put them.

If anyone here is intersted in vbuying some s1s    fir cheap let me know.  Ill accept btc and paypal.

I didn't know if everyone with multiple miners were doing this or not.

Don't mind seeing GHash on here.  I'm mining with rigs 1 through 12 on Slush and rigs 13 through 16 on the dark side.

What I wanted to point out were the "bookmarks" on the left for all 16 miners and 16 "tabs" at the "top" of my browser.  I have the tabs in order from left to right for rigs 1 through 16.

Just thought I would share this with other newbies like myself with multiple rigs.

now that's some nice power cost . best i have all year is 0.0919 per KWH one tier, new plan is  due to happen next year, I'm going shopping  once i get that renewal letter .  Sep this year i got a 352 $ bill in the mail for power cost i had been mining all summer  24 /7 and the highest bill was 220 in the summer till sep . but what jacked it in Sep was a bad wire out side my house it took it them three hours to replace now my bills
seem  ok power doesn't go over 8 bucks a day it was going over 12 to all most 16 a day with that bad wire i had no idea why till my power went out and no one else did. i wish i could get those cost thu i would  invest more in to farming . its just a hobby for me.

If you are located within North American Regioin, Please return this S3 to the following address with a tracking number and PM your shipping address, phone number and the e-mail address in the original shipping box (if possible)

Bitmain Warranty
3700 Quebec St. #100239
Denver, Colorado 80207

Phone: 844-248-6246

Thank you!!

Did you do it this way?

Quote
First: Disconnect the cable connected to Chain#1 to test Chain#2 hash board.
Second: Disconnect cables connected to Chain#1 and Chain#2, turn over the control board, and then connect the Chain#1 to Connector#2 of the control board, to test Chain#1 hash board.
Note: Since there is no +12v in the Connector 1#, you have to turn over the control board to test Chain 1#

Thanks to point that out. Those are the small things that the eye sometimes skips.

Gonna test it that way and post the results here.

I turned over the control board and connected the connector #1 to the chain #2. It didn't worked. I quite don't get why do I have to flip the controller over since I see the screws holding it to the case are only grounding the PCB. I checked the cables were connected correctly.

Quick Recap: So far:

  • Both Connector #1 and chain #1 connected; Connector #2 and chain #2 connected: Machine boots, Status>MinerStatus>AntMiner is empty. Red and Green leds on.
  • Only Connector #1 and chain #1 connected: Machine doesn't boot, fan attached to the chain #1 blows at 100%, the other one 0 RPM. Both red and green leds are off.
  • Only Connector #1 and chain #2 connected: Machine doesn't boot, fan attached to the chain #2 blows at 100%, the other one 0 RPM. Both red and green leds are off.
  • Only Connector #2 and chain #1 connected: Machine boots, Status>MinerStatus>AntMiner shows the info of the Chain 1. Asic status: "oooooooo oooooooo". Red led off. Only green led is on.
  • Only Connector #2 and chain #2 connected: Machine boots, Status>MinerStatus>AntMiner shows the info of the Chain 2. Asic status: "oooooooo oooooooo". Red led off. Only green led is on.
  • Only Connector #1 and chain #2 connected, PCB turned over.: Machine doesn't boot, fan attached to the chain #2 blows at 100%, the other one 0 RPM. Both red and green leds are off.

Thanks,

EDIT: Fixing typos.

Tough question... Would say.... start plan for the S3+ unit...   Cry  sorry  or may be miracle would happen but S3+ be the best bet!

Does anyone know if Bitmain will sell the S1 upgrade kits again? I'm very happy with the couple I purchased and would like more.
There is something strange, you service the Bitmain warranty yet you do not know that Bitmain expressly said in these pages that the S1 upgrade kit has been discontinued ..... anyway, there you have it.

maybe here : https://www.112bit.com/product/s1-upgrade-kit-september-20th/

but not to sure if you can buy them it lets me put it in the cart etc but i haven't tried to actually pay it . that is kind of to much for me with shipping sense if i shop around i can find a full S3, i don't care what B# it might be for less by maybe 40 to 60 $ with free shipping and have in the US .

Hello,

I have point my two Antminer S2 to nicehash but as I see it get 20-30% rejected

17************     450.97     214.75 (32.26%)
18************     645.05     175.92 (21.43%)

Miner has latest firmware and diff is regulated by miner itself.

I have try whit  --queue 0 --scan-time 1 --expiry 1 but still have same results.

Can rejected rate be reduced somehow?

Thank you

have you tried downloading the newest firmware upgrade from bitmain ?  if not, try it, it may help.

set diff to 2048  if you want that Post from bitmain why it might be it I will find it for you, i saw it again today the on  mining.bitcoin.cz forums even with the new Firm ware the guy  said he had to set it . unless  you did it all ready  d=2048

he said S4 but i did read some place else were bitmain said for s2 as well .sadly i don't want a s2 or S4 if i did id Polly have one . i d fix it right way by playing with it to till  i did.
I want maybe  a c1 and L1  which I'm working  for now , i don't see much else coming but maybe  the ASICMiner Block Erupter Tube i may build one for fun . or buy more S3 they seem to be the best thing atm .
its more of a hobby for me by that i mean i  watch the smart meter stuff on BG and G site , usually shut down all but one miner a few days out of the week , then once I'm OK with the power I use at that point i mine for 2 or 3 days then shut all but one down and that works well for me i control my power cost better that way  and actually get a lot of coins that way.

14.10.2014
Dear Bitmain Antminer S4 owners, we have had reports about incorrect hashrate being displayed in your profile. After investigating this issue, it turned out that the S4 firmware ignores difficulty lower than 2048. You can now set the minimum difficulty in the worker registration table. This ensures that our stratum servers will NOT attempt to give your workers lower difficulty than this threshold.
2696  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 27, 2014, 03:08:42 AM
i think that new FW somehow messed up my miners..

since i got them they have been steady at 453 @225.

since i updated the FW and put the FW back to the 826 FW, reset them and put them back @ 225 one is 446 and one is 438.. also they keep beeping..

what do i do??

You can always downgrade to the prior firmware.

M

i did that.. and i updated the cgminer with the new 4.6 one..

they just arent working as hard as they were Sad

its just not numbers either, my payouts have gone down.

My payout got better i get less errors and rejects with the new Fw then i was . or maybe it seems that way to me .  but it does indeed seem that way .

I love how  a lot of company's not just company that deal with bitcoins  think just because its on paper there  aloud to do and say what they please.

what I mean is if you take some one money with no intention of giving back what that customer paid for then tell the customer the above . were and what law  makes it OK to take some one money in a misleading way then tell you  no refund and  you get nothing to me that's  stealing and plan against any law any place on the face of earth eve in jail were it Polly not as bad due you can lose your life over it there .

Yet they still  think it OK to do. I don't even know were that policy came from no refund due to the nature of the business.

well to me  that's stealing and fraud. makes even bitcoins look bad to some who other wise  would put big amounts of money into bitcons because of some of the acts of others in this business.

I hope you guys get some kind satisfaction out of it  i don't do any kind of per orders out side the US even then its risky in side the US as well you still have to watch who you buy form here .  ( BFL). just one of the many who do it every day in the US , we don't hear about the other ones because they do it in a such a way you can't prove it .

the crime of fraud involves the use of deception for financial or personal gain.

@aclass

Reduce frequency or possibly change PSU.

How high is too high?

S3 with latest FW
High as in the ballpark of accepted high. Not an OC issue as its high at that level as well. Tried to UC with the same result. Temps are at 35 and 39.

I'll try with another PSU tomorrow but this one is a 1200W gold with all 4 sockets full on the S3

try this to it might help mine with  http:whatever not with stratum+tcp just to see if that helps any
set D=1024 as your pw no x or PW it should let you mine  and set /#xnsub after the url port #

and /#xnsub  seems to work with CGminer now lets me use CGMiner with that in the  URL after the port number.

Anyone know if you can get the fans to sync?

Doesn't make sense in a push/pull config to have one fan running at a different speed than the other.

wish i could figure out how to make both show up with the upgrade and sync them as well .
