2701  Economy / Services / Re: I'm Building a Better egift card service ... on: September 16, 2011, 05:38:19 PM
The only thing I can see this service being used for is to get ones bitcoins into a 'currency' that you can buy things off popular sites... Amazon etc. But when there are several businesses which process btc -> usd/eur/gbp I don't see anyone using it for that reason.
Unless you make your profit margins so small that it would be benefitcial for a user to use your service then I can't see many people using it. And by that I mean profits smaller than it would cost a user to trade btc -> usd then to withdraw to a bank account.
Of course you might get a few people buying gift cards for others as presents but its not going to be a huge amount of trade.

I doubt a site like that would need any real maintenance once its all set up and running, so you could set it up and see what happens.

Noviz thanks for the feedback. Trust me I was as skeptical as you about getting into this and thought out what you have mentioned regarding the fact people would just cash out their bitcoins say to dwolla and then go to the merchants and buy the goods so what is the point of a service like mine?  I don't think I can compete with that I do agree. I guess people just don't want to hassle with it ? With this system you get a egift code within 24 hours or less to go spend at the merchants you care about amazon, newegg etc., etc.,  ... like I said I'll put up what I have so far so people can get a better idea because I don't think I'm clearly stating all the benefits for the service.

Yeah the speed will also be a big incentive to use your service. The quicker you can make it the better.

Just a thought you could do a reverse system where you sell MTGox USD vouchers for cash. Although why someone wouldn't just deposit to MtGox would be the downside to that.

I did think of something like that where you sell MTgox USD vouchers for cash there is something to it just haven't put my head around it yet Smiley thanks for brainstorming!

Incentives - Thinking of doing a "rewards" or "bitcoins back" or "winner contest" for choosing us.

Your only saving grace is probably by introducing incentives like these ones above.

....and yes that is why I threw that in there even though there is very little profit margin if any so far I've seen but I do have some ideas.
2703  Economy / Services / Re: I'm Building a Better egift card service ... on: September 16, 2011, 04:42:16 PM
Is there even a real market for e-gift cards where you live? Serious question, I see the spam often enough but is the demand real even for $? Personally I would never even consider buying that. What kind of gift is that? Giving a gift card is lame enough as a present, making it electronic makes it even worse. I think even giving an envelop with (old fashioned) cash has more style, but I guess thats just me?

Perhaps a suggestion; I dont know the english word for it, but if you get married, people tend to have a "list" somewhere, where you can select the gifts from or donate an amount. Something like that for bitcoin might be neat. I guess it wouldnt be easy to pull off without help from existing services, but if you can,  Im sure there some bitcoin nerds about to get married who might fancy the idea.

I know what you mean I had the same thoughts as I was doing this as if there is a market for this. After looking around it seems people do use it. Basically, the advantage is liquidity of bitcoins into something you buy at your local store.

Yes, the list you are referring to is a "registery" for wedding etc.,etc., ....

I do appreciate the feedback every little bit helps! Grin

2707  Economy / Services / Idea ? on: September 15, 2011, 03:32:30 AM
I have an idea that I would like to run it by with some talented programmer in this forum. If you are a person who is looking to get into bitcoin and didn't know what service/product to start let me run this one by you! I think it could generate "exchange type service commissions".

Equity stake would be preferred as I'm flat out broke! but we can discuss please use PM if possible. Thanks everyone! Grin

2715  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mtgox and bruce wagner on: September 01, 2011, 04:31:16 PM
I've talked to Bruce and watched his show several times, and he is a really nice guy.... From my personal experience, it seems unlikely that he is the conman everyone is claiming him to be. He has a very open and honest character... Not at all 'shady' IMO.

Are you serious?  You can't think of any reason why a con man(who makes a living on getting people to trust him with their money and well-being) seems like a really nice guy?  A con man who seems shady isn't a very good one.  And he was a good one, no idea how much he got but he was ordered to pay back over 350k so it was a lot.
Then why the hell did he get caught?

I bring this point up because if Bruce was hiding ANYTHING, he wouldn't be using all his REAL INFORMATION in the first place.

You guys are absolutely INSANE, and you wonder why people won't take you seriously?

I agree, I think that if this guy really was a pedophile sex-trafficking mortgage scammer he would be WAY TOO SMART to just use his name like this. IDIOTS. I mean, sure he's admitted to it being true, but that's because you trolls put his back against the wall.  BACK OFF, AND LET THE TRUTH COME OUT.

+1+1
2716  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bruce Wagner and the surrounding drama. on: September 01, 2011, 04:13:10 PM
Why can't people display the truth in a more sincere manner? Why must the truth always be portrayed in a deamining and inflammatory way meant to intimidate the entire community? The SA trolling has been going on for MONTHS long before ANY of this Bruce stuff started to happen.

Should all the abuse that you guys have inflicted on this community be forgiven because you brought us a few "good" facts? I say "good" because these facts were not brought out to protect the community from people like Bruce, but instead were brought to light to cause damage and pain to anyone who is part of the Bitcoin movement.

You want proof? You guys have 481 pages of it.

I don't know. I think you have a pretty low bar for intimidation.

On the other side of the coin, just yesterday a prominent member of the community was banned for making veiled threats of violence against SA members. He also tweeted similar threats.

How many SA trolls have actually threatened Bitcoiners with violence? Because that sounds a lot more like intimidation than anything you're talking about.

You seriously don't know about the violence SA has done to  forum members ?  Bitcoinmedia is having his family  threatened by SA members!
2717  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has Bruce talked at all about the accusations of fraud against him? on: September 01, 2011, 04:09:23 PM
Yes Bruce Wagner has responded multiple times. Here and in IRC. He has responded with dodges, lies, and half-apologies. The mortgage fraud was just mismanagement and he's really sorry for it, he never said he called the fbi just that he talked to them, etc,etc etc.

--

Really, I honestly wish the Thailand/child prostitute stuff never got brought into the whole mess, because while it is certainly alarming, it is mostly completely circumstantial and somewhat ambiguous evidence and makes the whole thing look like a bad talk show episode. (Yes, I realize it is alarming and Bruce somewhat brought in on himself by his freakishly vociferous defending of Pattaya as the next location for a bitcoin conference. Why? I have no idea.)

--

Mostly it is clear that he is a dodgy guy with a dodgy past that quite possibly screwed a lot of people out of money. This plus the fact that he was not only the biggest promoter of mybitcoin but supposedly lost 25k coins to them AND was supposedly paid back but refuses to provide any confirmation of that transaction makes me a lot more worried that he is currently scamming lots of people out of their money.

I have no idea why anyone in the bitcoin community would continue to defend him at this point. This project went from interesting open source project to some sort of shrill tribalism and cultishness in just a few months. Quite breathtaking actually. One minute bitcoin was a prototype, the next minute it was being sold as the One True Currency. One minute the forums were a useful place to talk about bitcoin, the next minute they were Our Home and Under Attack.

There are other places where interesting talk is happening around complementary currencies and both the advantages and limitations of the current blockchain technologies. But that place isn'[t here.

I applaud the developers for remaining largely clear of the fray and still focusing on the big picture of what is important about bitcoin.

Why do you hate bitcoin?  You are obviously a troll who seeks to destroy it by simply accepting what has been planted.

Gerken your a troll aren't you ?

I dont give a shit about Bruce.

So far today someone has called me a pedophile, that I am harboring a criminal and then posted pics on twitter and insulted my wife.

What exactly did I do to deserve this ? You think that means nothing then wait till you are the next target. These assholes are attacking the innocent.

Its all fun till some internet vigilante knocks on your door because some idiot posted lies.

libel
1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others.

Calling someone  a pedophile on twitter is an act of publishing.

I think they are just trolling you because you're a reactionary dweeb who antagonized them by sending instant messages to one of their moderators, and now you're flipping out in amusing fashion which is fueling the fire.  And now this 'vast sums of anonymous money' line, implying that you're gonna hire a hitman or something because of mean words on the internet?  That's pretty hilarious.

I do love how every lame-ass who gets trolled for acting like a weirdo interprets it as an attack against bitcoins, though.  That never stops being amusing.

Go back and design a project you never complete.  These dickheads contacted me and started with the pedophile shit.
Get your facts straight...thats right you never get past first base.

You seem unable to read or comprehend. You should look at who is posting things, at least. It'll avoid making a fool of yourself in your nerdrage.

I, for one, think that the SA crew is fucking hilarious and their interaction with this forum is probably the most interesting thing on it. It beats the pants out of a bunch of pussies whining because the internet got too real for them...'I lost money! I got trolled! I am a fucking cock-toothed retard!!!'

Wow, look at the SA retard!   wow, you guy's are so cool over there at SA  just sit at your computers and post stupid shit all day like a bunch of idiots ....we are all MISSING OUT on so much!!!

what a moron this randyfolds guy is.
2720  Other / Off-topic / Re: A message for the something awful trolls. on: August 31, 2011, 05:11:25 PM
wow, and I thought I was the only one who thinks SA is up to no good:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40340.0;topicseen

They still haven't offered up what value they are bringing to this community.

I'll I've seen is attacking other bitcoin members ?

Anyone seen an answer yet?

edit: don't put pass yourself if SA is part of this also behind this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40483.msg493866#new  FBI is hiring people to bring down Bitcoin.

You are precious. Do you wear pillows around yourself when you go outside too?

awwww what a cute little comment.
