2701  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 24, 2014, 11:42:13 PM
@toptek

Unless you have fan pointing on S3, removing the cover may do more harm than good. Point of cover is to force air through heatsink fins.

OK,  i removed it once it seemed ok . but then again i also push pull the fans. then why does the upgrade run better in open air over the closed one . well any way some thing he can try to see .

so ILL reword it take off the cover and run some fans on the  S3 blades .I can give all  kinds of advice you can try but the main one lower the OC  to start, to see. then go with a new  PSU . I won't give much advice on OCing other then don't unless you know what your doing .
2702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 24, 2014, 11:35:43 PM
To clarify:

1) Download the updated firmware from: https://bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=007201407180243004432lBQW28O0633
2) SSH/Putty into S3
3) Paste the code in below.. Will replace Save&Apply with Save&Apply.

Code:
sed -i 's/Save\&Apply/Save\&Apply/g' /usr/lib/lua/luci/model/cbi/cgminer/cgminer.lua
4) Execute the following code
Code:
/etc/init.d/cgminer restart

This worked great but i like the  boot strap skin now that i found it, i may just keep that view.
2703  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 24, 2014, 11:29:45 PM
HW still too high... How can I lower those?

S3  ?  set it to defaults for while see if its a  OC issue , is it heating up if so remove the cover for  a while to see if open air helps . make sure both fan are turning .I have a upgraded S3 i upgraded that runs better then the S3 i bought from butmain all most no hard ware error with the upgrade .I may just pull the boards on the S3 and re paste them its my Second S3, first one just stopped working they replaced it no questions asked .
2704  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: October 24, 2014, 10:20:41 PM
Hello,

I have point my two Antminer S2 to nicehash but as I see it get 20-30% rejected

17************     450.97     214.75 (32.26%)
18************     645.05     175.92 (21.43%)

Miner has latest firmware and diff is regulated by miner itself.

I have try whit  --queue 0 --scan-time 1 --expiry 1 but still have same results.

Can rejected rate be reduced somehow?

Thank you

Unfortunately AntMiner S2 is know to have issues with our stratum servers due to a specific version of cgminer used in it which has a bug regarding handling of extranonce2 (as used in our stratum servers). You can try to use stratum-proxy and see if you get better results. btw: other Antminers (S1, S3, S4, etc.) are known to work good

also set DIff to d=2048 i read some one place that might help for the  S2 and S4  .I wish bit main would either put both BFGminer and CGminer in the Ants or give Luke the info he keeps asking them for and  let those who want to use it in the ants use it.

the new Firmware works great but to use it right now with  the S3 i had to  use the boot strap skin sense the open writ skin wont let you access the Miner conf page.  sense i switched over to http://stratum.westhash.com:3334/#xnsub  with Cgminer 4.6.1 a few days ago my payout got better and rejects got less and less hard ware errors.
2705  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 24, 2014, 12:41:33 PM
if anyone wants to use the new firmware just change the view till its fixed go to

The System page then look under Language and Style, change design from Open writ to bootstrap, if you don't like that look you can change it back after you make any adjustments till they fix it .

SO far so good the new firmware seems to run the ants way better no HW errors at all if i stay at defaults with the old firmware even at defaults i was getting HW errors. Now so far i only start seeing them when i try to do any Over clocking. it even look  like now by the UI we might just be able to over clock like we can with  video cards either tweak the firmware /bios or use the UI like we do with MSI  afterburner if you game or use video cards to mine.)"!.  no more need to pencil it, if you like to under volt to keep the  heat down and then over clock.

Which miner and to where are you trying to get shipping?

Shipping for 2 S3's is 0.386 BTC  135.536 USD for me. I live in the US, so no customs or taxes.

That is quite a bit of money. I understand the shipping costs to and from China, but a company that ships as much stuff as Bitmain should have a better shipping rate.

IF this Helps any try there us site

2707  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5 Speculation on: October 22, 2014, 01:44:28 AM
There won't be an S5 available for retail sale, in my opinion. If BitMain develops an S5, they'll stock their DCs with them and if you're lucky they offer some cloudmining up for sale. But most likely it will be just another massive private mining operation.

Home mining is dead. But don't lemme stop ya'll from speculatin' & dreamin'.  Wink

Mining is still alive with cheap electricity.  I will agree it's no longer the 3 month roi guarentee.  At one time I could be sure to be in profit at 90 days, now my calculations are going longer. I think Bitmain will continue to sell to public as it is a benefit for both, with them selling public the gear is cheaper for them as everything is in bigger quantity.

I do agree there will be a day when most are "cloud mining".  As i like hardware i hope it is still a little ways away.  Cloud mining is getting cheaper though and will continue to be more and more attractive.

nothing is ever dead till its dead and gone and we no longer here about it . how i see it . right now its not dead depends on what you term as dead  . but my thought on dead is dead and is no more .

like gold mining by some one off the streets that is truly dead . Some still try it and lose all they have etc .but home mining is it not dead in the sense of how you do it and what you want form it .

oyea  How greedy are you  ! Smiley .

At the mods I thought my joke was funny, but I understand the deletion.

At the op there is no way an s-5 will be built for many months to come.  Now if some one puts out a .2 watt miner

the s-5 may show up as a competitor.

Builders don't need to build miners faster if they have a good miner on the market.  Once some real .2 watt gear is built something like a .25 watt s-5 will appear.

This is almost exactly what I said a few days before they announced the S4...lol

or just improve what they have now and sell more for less and make more .
2709  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5 Speculation on: October 22, 2014, 01:21:42 AM
I'm waiting for the 10TH miners for $500 to come out.

What do you guys think, like a year from now?

count on it  when who knows but it will but will that 10TH really be all that then .
2710  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty slowdown: Is this turning into a long-term trend? [Discussion Thread] on: October 22, 2014, 01:04:27 AM
To be clear you believe in diff decreases of 3-5%?  or increases under 5% say 3 to 5

My thoughts are as long as price is in the    300 to 425 usd a coin range we will continue to see very small diff increases.

I also think that unless an asic builder comes up with a really big power improvement   say a drop from the  .6-.8  watt per  watt machine to a .1-.2 watt machine  diff will stay the same range of 5 to 7 percent .

you also need to understand most mining is by the big builders.

 ASICMINER
 BFL
 BITFURY
 BITMAINTECH
 KNC

yeah bfl has a lot of gear mining
as do the others above.

You want to add in
DRAGON MINERS 1.5th in chinese data centers
 Spondollies 10, 20 ,30, 35 hosted here and there.

I think most of us home miners are lucky to add up to 50ph world wide  more likely 30ph in gear.

So the big builder is making money right now and really can only f up by building up his mining ops too quickly.

Like PC's are now i remember way back when how much it cost for one stick of 1 MB  memory that was lot of memory to have then   if you had a 120 MB not GB hard drive  you were top dog those were the days .

I don't doubt they don't all ready  have the hard ware they  just won't sell it for the above reasons in this post not what i said .
2711  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty slowdown: Is this turning into a long-term trend? [Discussion Thread] on: October 22, 2014, 12:49:35 AM
Sady its not gonna stop any time soon unless the hard ware slows downs in how fast its made and what it can do .

I'm seeing more and more every day no more bitcoin  home mining unless its scrypt or alt coins  mining till that's start rollin then the big guys will fuck us again or  alt coins will  become the home miming way which i have np with . .

right now  alt con or script mining  its not to bad I'm doing pretty good but if i do just Bitcoins  forget it.it is gone for the home miner unless you have  23 PH In your home .23 PH is a example of my point to make a profit at home doingBTC mining.

i really enjoy doing it but don't want to waste my time on paying either when i have better things to use that money on .
2712  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it possible to do BTC solo mining and get an entire block with 100 Ths? on: October 22, 2014, 12:38:39 AM
I saw an ad(item #361075867956) on EBay claiming that with 50-100 Ths its possible to generate 25 BTC or entire block alone  in 1 hour.

I've been thinking about it and looking at algos on the structure of BTC and if possible with 100-300 Ths can generate 25 BTC in short period of time.

Now in order to test this BTC theory I will purchase the item and come back here when the 1 hour is finished.

Is it *possible*? Yes. It's technically possible to solve a block with even just a single hash per second.

100TH/s is roughly 0.04% of the ~245PH Bitcoin network at the moment. Using a pool, you'd expect around BTC0.06 an hour for that amount of hashing power...

To add it's  all about luck .
2713  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it possible to do BTC solo mining and get an entire block with 100 Ths? on: October 22, 2014, 12:36:10 AM
one of the  Solo mining site did it with a 160 th  a few weeks back in fact if they weren't leing he did 3 in about  four days with 160 TH  over the summer but that gear then must have cost him .
2714  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer U3: Decentralization continued on: October 18, 2014, 10:29:25 PM
Reserved for Q&A and technical support. [Official from BITMAIN, don't delete]

Setup requirements:
  • Requires power via PCI-E or via the included AC/DC adapter. You will need to purchase a power cable [connector type to be confirmed] for the AC/DC adapter.
  • External controller [PC, Pi]
  • USB cable is included
why is it so hard to not include a power cable for the ac/dc adapter. Even though the original bitmain post doesn't even
mention supplying that either.

most cases its Customs won't allow it to be sent with one, don't know Thu if that's the case here .

why we had to buy our own paste for the upgrade kits  s1 to s3  customs had issue with the paste .

With good reason .
2715  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN‘s Liquid Cooled Miner C1: It is not only cool, but it is cool on: October 18, 2014, 04:23:18 AM

This is interesting, but I would be more interested in buying more S1 upgrade kits.

Or C1 upgrade kits . sense it the same thing as a S3 So I'm guessing why not just sell them as C1 upgrade kits  for S1, it looks like it would would work .

extend the S1s just a tad longer  Tongue) .

2716  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BITMAIN has horrible customer service on: October 08, 2014, 07:23:15 PM
Well, in the grand scheme of things, yeah their customer service is quite basic; the next step down is not having any.

As an importer, once the item leaves their yard, it's no longer their responsibility.

Where do you live?  Poland?  Netherlands?  Can't think of a country with such a high import tax rate.

It's also always a good idea to set up a business importer account with UPS or DHL, you'd save a lot on time, brokerage and save on import taxes.

Most countries have an import tax, you pay sales tax as you would be buying the same item within the country.

There is also a significant price difference between importing as an individual and importing as a company.

For Bitmain to be able to export they are bound to working by the importer's country's rules and for a broker to clear a shipment, they need to have a clear idea of the product.

You can import an RV to live in but you still need to get insurance to put it on the road and then home-owners insurance.

Also, companies who deal in Bitcoin, report their Bitcoin earnings to their dollar equivalent.

You're complaining about stuff you should be doing in the beginning, none of that is Bitmain's fault.

Commercial Importing 101

You'll be much happier with Bitmain if you just buy the product and never deal with them unless you need a fix.

They're not bad but CS could be a lot better and be more transparent on their website because most new miners don't understand importing at all.

I live in Canada, import under my corporate name AND have a UPS importer account.  All three are really nice savings Wink

Last order of 5 cost me less than $100 which is really nice compared to what I used to pay ($200+).

This means I pay no brokerage fee and pay the federal corporate tax rate instead of the full sales tax.

Importing paperwork and reporting is your duty, regardless the country you import from.

Like, seriously, I agree Bitmain should be more transparent on their website on the importing process, definitely.

Especially when they cater to home miners who doesn't usually import from that far away.

Importers should do their homework before importing anything, don't blame Bitmain CS.

Yeah they suck but it's not their problem if you don't know what you're doing.

If you don't study, never did homework and failed the exam, who's fault is it?  Teachers?

Yeah they suck too but no reason to make either look suckier than they already are.

I'm not a fan of Bitmain CS although I buy a lot from them but seriously, all you accomplished in this thread is say:

-I am ok with buying bitcoin miners
-I don't want to pay import fees my country imposes
-I don't want Bitcoin Miner shown on the box despite all clarifications made
-I don't want to pay 33% import tax but didn't check to see how much it would be
-I never attempted to view the experiences of previous buyers despite them posted all over this forum
-I likely never bought any other mining machines and never tried any other manufacturers
-I want to get everything but do no work whatsoever

That last statement seem to be "new miner" mantra which is why my position in mining is secure, I'll be mining full capacity profitably even if the price drops to $20 a piece.  It's the same in Gold mining, always those bozos who come in acting like big shots, wanting everyone else to do the work, collect a fat check but for some reason end up leaving broke as a joke.  They laugh at my small operation but I keep going to my claim taking gold out of the ground and putting it in my gold jar.  They failed to properly test, bring in the wrong machinery type or cheap out and to only see them at the welfare office the year after.  See where I am going?

Mining is no longer a hobby, either you get serious about it and do your damn homework or fail like the rest who are shutting down their machines and complaining about everything else other than themselves right now.

Nice but to the point i agree you either do or you don't if do you don't watch the numbers it only makes it seem worse . if hes agree or not on watching numbers for me if I watch the numbers  i might as well stop now. I Know I'm gonna lose but sooner or later it pays me back and so what if it doesn't.  Smiley . I also see those that are complaining as either had it  to good to long or used what they made the wrong way but I will  let that go ..

Yeah, Price + Difficulty = S1 and Jupiter retirement.

The home mining is dead sometimes ago.
This isn't your example of home mining now is it? What I was reading was that his equipment was in a warehouse and he would be paying a different type of electric (probably commercial rate) This is usually a bit higher than your regular rate. Regardless homeminers shouldn't be looking to make a quick profit but a long one, if electric is low enough they can beat the price of coins by mining. (undervolted s1's and possibly s3)

At the end he isn't a farm , so this category is "home mining" with 1 - 2 or 50 Ths . Because he bought this asic hardware and he  hasn't produced it , but the big farm produce the chip and mine whit it .

+ that tells me he still may be farming just doesn't know what to do with lower end hardware . so is he still farming but with 1 th 2th hardware took those  off line because of Price + Difficulty = S1 and Jupiter retirement. Just those ?!. I don't see any S3 in those PIC.

I offered some one 170 on ebay for a S3 upgrade kit they want all most 300 for  I'll see how that goes .
2718  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 08, 2014, 06:53:52 PM
Just an update on my Bad fan. I tried the bad fan on another one of my S3's as tech support suggested to prove it was not the board. They then shipped me out a new fan very fast. They also send me a t-shirt and lots of bitmain and bitcoin stickers. It was very nice of them to do. I am happy to report my S3 is working fine now.

they replaced my S3 no question  asked they  were very nice to me even offered me the T-shirt i said don't worry about it . Smiley. but did get what i asked for a price for parts if I wanted to buy some as a back up for my S3.

Was told they Plan to start selling parts they won't be as cheap as some hope but will  save you if you need it fixed out of warr right then .
2719  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Minning is wasting money, why still minners? on: October 08, 2014, 06:40:45 PM
194.00 or 0.58 BTC about for S3 b10 on bitmains site at least there stying with in coin prices. Should be lower  guess they have to eat to.
