2761  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: December 29, 2021, 11:51:27 AM
The money used to buy Ferran came from a bank loan. You may not like it but it's a hard financial decision they have to make for the future of the club. Only time will tell if that will pay off or not.
The decision to get a good player is justified in my opinion but increasing the wage volume shouldn't be accepted too. They have to get ride of some useless players for real and bring young and useful ones to guarantee the future of the club. Other than that, it is a suicide.
If the transfer took place, then Barcelona knows how it will be able to compensate for this acquisition and this does not contradict the principles of financial fair play. Also, do not forget that in addition to the transfer of Torres, Barcelona is trying to seriously apply for the purchase of Haaland. In any case, we are talking about borrowed funds, which will then need to be returned, despite all sorts of preferential loan terms and Barcelona will have to earn these funds. And in order to earn these funds, Barcelona must overcome its problems and start winning titles again as before. Another question is that it's scary to imagine what will happen if it doesn't work out.

Barca is getting just one shot to correct their poor performance this year and if it misses the effects will be felt next year as well. In fact it may be too late to correct at all the current year. Too little, too late... not the best move, not the best financial situation. All this is not proper for a team like Barca as they should have enough managerial talent to better understand the situation and use the resources more wisely. This is making La Liga a bit boring as Spain mostly depends on having Real and Barca in good shape and then the rest.
2762  Economy / Economics / Re: The Crypto Rich Are Flocking to Puerto Rico on: December 28, 2021, 11:35:22 PM
Seems interesting this Puerto Rico situation. There are a few caveats on regards to moving there for the wealthy. It has strong relationships with the United States which is well known to keep an eye on assets and any day may decide to impose sanctions or freeze accounts on citizens of country XYZ because of political issues and I do not imagine Puerto Rico opposing such decisions.

Also, all American countries have a marked economic class difference, some people feel comfortable with it, some others don't.
2763  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans overestimate social mobility in their country on: December 27, 2021, 05:03:57 PM
I would not say that most US citizens and Americans in general overestimate the social mobility. There are some very powerful economics behind the idea of the "American Dream" - the idea that there is no limit to what you can achieve if you work hard enough and have talent.

This idea was never true an now is less than ever. The success stories are widely promoted by the wealthy to make sure the nation has a can-do attitude and everyone works hard... mostly for them in the end. If you look at the success stories of capitalism and ignore all the bad ones, it looks great of course - you can probably even find these in Turkey, Venezuela or Iran if you look hard enough.

Notice that the conservatives in US are interested in NOT promoting social mobility, so the battle is already half lost if there was ever one.
2764  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto lobbying is going ballistic on: December 26, 2021, 09:25:59 PM
Business as usual in the USA plutocracy. Once an industry, sector or company becomes significant enough, the need to create competitive advantages, fooling the public, spreading biased arguments (weapons, tobacco, pharma, sugar,... you name it) becomes a necessity and lobbying is just another cost of doing business. I guess this is yet another sign of maturity in crypto, growing pains if you will. It must not be that easy to create a full new asset class in which to throw the rich and no that rich investors wealth.
2765  Economy / Economics / Re: Would you like to become a co-owner of a world bank? on: December 25, 2021, 07:44:48 PM
I am a co-owner of many banks already. Firstly of many commercial banks due to index investing - I do not even know which banks I own bits of at this moment! And, as a fiscal resident of a certain jurisdiction I do have a stake in all international organizations in which this country participates, thus, you can argue that I have some degree of control.

Now, if you think this argument is silly, so it is owning a part of a World Bank when you do not actually have significant assets, which, for this case, would only make sense if they are in the billions. Else, you have a stake on something that some else manages for his own benefit.

2769  Economy / Economics / Re: The Central Digital currencies will make monetary policy more difficult on: December 24, 2021, 02:31:54 AM
The CBDC concept that is being planned by Central Banks in all countries is currently still unclear, for example in my country.  However, China can indeed be considered a model for the follow-up to this great program.  In accordance with the Binance CEO's view that, if CBDC will be released freely in the market then it will be a good choice and for the market but don't let the government with all its political forms limit CBDC in such a way just to beat BTC.  That should be avoided.

The problem with China is that information is never clear, so big problems may not really be that big and big successes are most of the time difficult to believe. The centrally issued currencies are absolutely terrible for privacy. The control of the issuing entities over who does what and when is nearly absolute. That, in Europe or US, may be a concern, but in China is simply a terrible problem as the CCP as clearly shown intent of controlling the individual micro-behaviour of individuals even by means of a "social credit" systems that require citizens to be "good and loyal".
2770  Economy / Economics / Re: Only 50% of the college Class of 2020 had full-time jobs 6 months post grad on: December 24, 2021, 02:28:28 AM
Degree is losing its value even before the covid started because companies started to recruit people based on the skills not based on what degree they have so many people complete and get graduated without actual knowledge left stranded in the competitive world.
And this is what happens when the education you receive is worth nothing, decades ago when the school system still cared about preparing people for the future a degree was worth something, however students and the education complex came to the conclusion the value was on the degree itself and not on the education that you supposedly received, so people began to chase all kind of useless degrees to the point the market is inundated with them and now many companies are ignoring degrees and instead hire people based on skill alone, which in many cases that is the only thing the companies care about.
Probably until 2000 there is high demand for the degree graduates but after that everyone started to think that they eill become rich if they got a degree which resulted in atleast 100 times more than actual demand so only few people are actually working in the field where they got degree after than entrepreneurship became famous now everyone wants to become an entrepreneur, don't know where it will lead us to. Shocked

it is curious that not all economies are actually going the same way. While Japanese grads tend to be offered more non-permanent jobs, many students in USA are now being well received on STEM requiring jobs as the market seems to be seriously overheating. It is a confusing situation in my view, because there are, at the same time, fears of the market suffering an "stagflaction" which traditionally kills employment. At least is going to be interesting to see how this plays out next year.
2771  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. Contemplating Isolating Russia from SWIFT Banking System on: December 24, 2021, 02:25:26 AM
This forms part of the pack of threats currently being considered by US and NATO due to the massive concentration of troops on the Ukraine border as you say. The geopolitical problem here is complex. Rusia is quite used to consider Ukraine as a possession and a critical one if you consider food supply. Europe is as usual trying to increase its influence on this country as a measure to contain Rusia and prefereably keep it away from sensible European borders.

The problem is that Rusia may just be too big for these type of sanctions - they only work well on small economies... or perhaps never work well.
2772  Economy / Economics / Re: Advice for the season. on: December 24, 2021, 02:21:44 AM
Recently on the first week of the December most of the coins fall down because of the season of holiday they pulled out some of their investment just to celebrate this season well I guess some of the people know the thing they are doing but again it's better to have their plans we don't know what will happen for the next coming month. Well still this is the team they need to celebrate for all of those hardworks they made over the year.

The concept of advice for the season should not even be asked when it regards to crypto. You know what you have to do if you even bother to look at the bitcoin cash to flow models or have a hint of what happened in the past. The problem is that people want to trade and increase their positions but they do not really understand that they key here is to be patient, promote the bitcoin project and others perhaps and let the magic of deflation and limited supply to work in your favour. It does not take a season, it takes at least a few years, but is as certain as rain.
2773  Economy / Economics / Re: NFT and art theft on: December 24, 2021, 02:19:03 AM
I'm so curious what will happen if somebody mints two identical NFT on different chains and two different poeple buy it, so they've bought the rights for, what?
You supposedly trust the author/artist that they won't reproduce their work. Don't you do the same thing in real life? It's just that in real life they're much more discouraged to make many copies.  Tongue

This has been answered: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/111054

I have an other question:  What happens if in the far future, tangible items are sold as NFTs, but the owner decides to burn them? The market has to imply with the government's laws, 'cause I don't see the opposite happening; you can't just sell a house unofficially. Even if you do, what happens if the owner of the house loses the private key?
You do not really trust them exactly... I mean yeah they can sell you "one of a kind" thing but then create 10k more of the same thing a day later, but you are holding the "original" in that case. If it is just one thing that they minted, and then they go ahead and water it down by minting more, you are not really earning anything else here because technically the imagine is the same image but at the same time the NFT is a different one so you are not getting screwed here. Of course, it is distasteful and of course you need to have some smart people to see the difference but you still hold a rare one in that case anyway.

We had cryptokitties the same way, it was said to be rare and only a few gen 0 will be available so everyone attacked and bought for high prices years ago, now we all know how many new  stuff they keep on printing and devaluing it. So, it is not that easy for sure.

That is not really exclusive of the NFTs, although you can actually insert a contract limiting the amount of digital goods that can be inserted, so that would be advantageous for the investors. It also happens with card games such as Magic the Gathering. You have black moxes, double lands and the like selling for a fortune that only depends on the will of the Intellectual Property owner of not producing more at any time. How can you be sure that they would not eventually create, even if by mistake a card that is just too good and eats up the value of others?
2774  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] World Championship 2021: Carlsen Vs. Nepomniachtchi on: December 24, 2021, 02:15:47 AM
I think that the odds favour Carlsen, but not as much as to give the advantage that some of the bookies are giving. Nepomniachtchi (heck... let's call him Nepo) is particularly good at beating Carlsen, while only being the number 4 officially, he is the one that can actually cause trouble to the all powerful guy Magnus (has anyone noticed that the name means "overly great" in Latin. Well, the show seems to be over now with so much advantage from Magnus, but that is perhaps when the best may be more interesting and rewarding.
2775  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: December 24, 2021, 02:11:16 AM
Oh my god, Di Caprio again in there. Please, tell me he is not going to win again. I am not surprised about the movies odds - for example who was the guy that woke up one morning and decided that the world needed just another version of Dune? Really? Is like waking up in New York and thinking that the world just needs another Italian restaurant. Regarding actresses, I dislike most of them and I really do not see how Lady Gaga fits at all even in a nomination.

Should I place a bet... best movie Belfast.

2776  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who’s who in the gambling subforum? on: December 24, 2021, 02:06:53 AM
It is an interesting question. So far as the thread on the Spanish League (La Liga) is concerned, everyone out there seems to be an expert as long as they say Real Madrid is going to win  Grin Now seriously, Sterbens seems to make constructive comments, borovichok seems to follow the main teams and also contribute, but there does not seem to be anyone that has the type of information that would class them as experts. I guess this is soccer - no experts and difficult to predict.
2777  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: December 24, 2021, 02:02:46 AM
La Liga is getting a bit boring to be honest. Seville is far behind Real Madrid and the rest are nowhere to be seen. Perhaps is becoming more fun to watch the games of the teams in the middle table rather than watching Madrid grinding everything on its path. I would have never thought at the beginning of La Liga that it would play out this way: Barca was very well caught off-balance and everyone knew so, but the dominance of Madrid in my view was not something that could be expected since they were also impacted by the loss of Ronaldo and nobody could predict how the rest of team just step up easily and do great.
2778  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting to Risk Free Fights on: December 24, 2021, 01:59:42 AM
The only risk free is not to gamble at all. As per average, favorites do win most of the time, however, because of the odds, that would still make you unprofitable in the long run.
If you are good to go with just one shot of a bet, then bet on the underdog, but always remember that it could also lose.

Betting on the underdog will usually result to a loss. That's actually one way of not betting with minimum risk. If you are going to do that, just make sure you made enough research about that match and the potential winning rate for the underdog as well as understanding the gap from the odd.
Huge gaps usually an easy win for the favourite.
I can also say that betting with the favourite is actually profitable but with very less and minimal amount when you lost once, you'll have to get what you lost after several games betting with the favourites again.

Yes, it is right.  If you constantly place bets on favorites, then you need to be prepared for the fact that one day your bet will not win.

...

When betting in general on sports that actually depend on information to improve your odds over those of the house, you have to ask yourself the same as if you would be investing in stocks that are well known and followed. The key question is What is your advantage? For example, there are a million funds and people out there investing in Google. If you intend to compete with them, you should have better information or otherwise you will be the shrimp in the ocean ready to be eaten. Betting is similar, you need to find your advantage when betting for profit or expecting to have it.
2779  Economy / Economics / Re: Dont just borrow money but for the right reason on: December 24, 2021, 01:53:09 AM
-snip

I am very clear about my investment strategy, which has increased my net worth considerably over the years. My income has also grown considerably and I am clearly above average in both wealth and income where I live for my age.

Why should I pay attention to your multiple walls of text? You've even been red tagged for them.

The guy is just unable to set a simple message, I think is probably using multiple accounts as well. On regards to the content itself mixing metaverse and investment, I just struggle to make any sense of it.

Anyone can invest, it is not limited with people with lot of money and I would say that it may be even better if you do not start with much. It will not change your life in the short term, but you will be able to build progressively, just as you say. Compounding works well if you are patient and have a long term view on the results you expect. But you have to do a little everyday and try to avoid stuff that is simply too risky.
2780  Economy / Economics / Re: Why would we need a decentralized monetary system? on: December 23, 2021, 10:12:50 AM
Need? You only need air, water, shelter and food. All the rest is optional. Now rephrasing, why would a decentralised "monetary system" be useful?  The answer my friend is blowing in the net and is called bitcoin. You can already see how many people and even some countries are taking advantage of this system and many individuals are using it for, for example, low fee transfers to countries in which the usual middlemen charge a high fee.

So, I think your question answers itself and the rest... well, you really need to learn to synthesize your opinion.

Quote
Satoshi Nakamoto contributed the concept of Bitcoin to us. Today, we can clearly see the absurd fact that the value of the consensus of Bitcoin is still based on state-issued banknotes.

You are confusing an exchange rate with having a value determined in fiats.

What I would first ask is what short of advantage are your trying to achieve by the multilevel DAO and what realistic use cases are there. Most of the projects out there fail to have any advantage over traditional system or over what is already out there. Second, I fail to see the alignment of incentives.
