281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 02, 2014, 08:32:05 PM
Is it credible to say that XCP should be worth at least half of what mastercoin is worth?
If so, that is currently worth more than 0.01 BTC!

I just posted this analysis in another thread.

Valuation

MasterCoin Price -> 80$
CounterParty Price -> 1$

Product
MasterCoin -> Under development
Counterparty -> Working Prototype

MarketCap
MasterCoin -> 40 Million
CounterParty -> 2 Million (approx)

You can estimate the Counterparty market cap at 25% to 50% of Mastercoin.

Which could value it at -> 10 to 20 Million.

282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mastercoin vs Counterparty - Which one to invest in? on: February 02, 2014, 08:25:43 PM
Valuation
Counterparty Price -> 1$
MasterCoin Price    -> 80$

Counterparty -> Working prototype
Mastercoin -> in development

MarketCap
Counterparty -> 2 Million
MasterCoin -> around 40 Million

Counterparty seems undervalued right now, with potential to raise to 25% to 50% of mastercoin market cap.
283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Exchanges on: February 02, 2014, 08:22:46 PM
There's FLUX and Counterparty Protocol.

Any others?

What is flux, can you provide me with some info?

Counterparty is a great protocol by the way. The developers didn't take a single dollar in funding and the entire amount was burnt.

I think burn is over

Block number: 283810 is in. Burning Period is officially over.
285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 02, 2014, 07:13:20 PM
Is there a way to transfer and sell XCP allready for BTC ? Anyone tried it ?

Not yet.
There is an internal inbuilt exchange, where issuers can issue any form of asset - gold, stock etc... However, just like colored coins the issue is with the trust of the issuer.

Perhaps, as the founder of eToro, you could be that trusted issuer for various assets like - BTC, stock etc....  on the counterparty platform. Smiley

I have some press contacts that would be interested in the Counterparty story after the burn period has ended.

With Wwat press story should we lead?
  • Counterparty and the end of Proof of Burn.
  • Counterparty and creating your own currency without mining
  • Counterparty: Satoshi Nakamoto is back with a new shadowy group

I am curious and seeking new ideas from the community.

From a professional standpoint, I like 2. From a "sensationalism sells" standpoint, 3 sells.
XCP is most differentiated by its proof of burn origins. It is the first ever crypto that did this isn't it?

The other things are stuff other crypto can claim and with limited PR ammunition, I would think it best to go with strongest point. Proof of Burn is so radical, just getting that out there should get a lot of coverage.

Once people find out about proof of burn and they want to dig deeper, then all the other stuff can be presented.

James

Yes and thank you. So you're looking at #1. The Proof of Burn idea is the first evert for a project of this size. The Proof of Burn story can have radical perspective and the coverage would be interesting. Yes, the bait will bring more eyes to the project and more work with XCP.

Your thoughts are helping here. Good work.

Depends on who the audience is, if it is a general audience. Not familiar with Bitcoin, they might not have a clue as to what proof of burn is.
In which case, describing uses cases like -> trading assets (gold, USD) in a decentralized manner and the betting platform might help.

I'm interested in signing up to BetaTest as well. Have an entire network of lab machines, with different operating system versions.
288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chicago Sun Times Experimenting with Bitcoin on: February 01, 2014, 08:41:04 PM
The weird thing is they don't seem to have a paywall up, every article I click on is there to read without donating?
I also don't see any paywall on any article, tired of clicking random news.

You may want to delete your cache and restart browser. (perhaps a little bit too much work).
289  Economy / Economics / ChicagoTimes Experimenting with Bitcoin Donation Paywall on: February 01, 2014, 06:31:44 PM
Chicago Times is experimenting with a Bitcoin paywall/donation address (for today only).

Send a small donation their way - all funds go to Charity.

Many cash strapped newspapers will be watching this, wondering if they should adopt this model or at the least write articles about this. This could potentially help spread the word and bring Bitcoin to the masses.

Guys send them a small donation today. You know every newspaper is going to be writing about this in the coming days. (All the funds go to charity)

I agree, if a lot of people donate it will appear across the news.  If very little people donate that will also appear as well.  Currently they are sitting at  $23.42 raised on 15 donats... you can view the donation address here:  https://blockchain.info/address/1FoxNT4Nh15bVUZu59w6oRpNABKm74dxG4

They use coinbase, so they probably generate a random address everytime. (Just checked my transaction history and I donated to a different address).
291  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Portfolio on: February 01, 2014, 05:47:28 PM
The Counterparty (XCP) developers didn't take even a single cent in funds. They have a built a working product that can do assets, bets based on centrailized feeds etc... I almost feel sorry for them as the donation address hardly has any funds.

Is there any difference with Mastercoin, besides the burning approach?

Are you all invested in both?

The main difference is that, right now, XCP has working features while MSC does not.

Also, investors of MSC paid to a address which was controlled by its founder, whereas XCP uses a address noone controls.
Also, big difference in valuation. MasterCoin has a price around 80$, XCP is around 1$. (Even if you compare marketcaps instead, it is still a lot cheaper for a working product).

How do i go about investing in the IPO?

Cannot find a link anywhere.
Send your money straight to the developers pocket.
295  Economy / Speculation / Re: A BITCOIN PRICE THEORY on: January 31, 2014, 02:30:19 AM
gbianchi, great work on your model, it is not very often we see such detailed numeric analysis on this forum.

However, I have some comments I have to make on this model.

The number of addresses will always increase with time. It is not possible for this number to decrease. However, this model assumes that the price is proportional in some form to the number of addresses. So, that means the price can never decrease.

While the general trend has been up. At some point in the future Bitcoin will reach its ultimate or peak price (the final bubble).
If a trader or a long time investor where to follow this model, they will not know when to divest or get out, as the model will predict a price increase towards infinity.

What we need as a community to expand adoption
a) A WebSite -> www.counterparty.co
b) An easy to use intuitive GUI -> in progress bounty on Feb 14th
c) Block Explorer -> http://blockscan.com/
d) Information material -> PDFs, info graphics, short videos etc... explaining the end user use cases etc....

297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: January 31, 2014, 01:57:59 AM
I'll sum it up for you

Great potential in this product, but a god-awful IPO was scheduled to begin on the 1st. Seemed awfully greedy on the founders part with the investors taking all the risk. Regardless of if the project failed or not, the founders would still make good money.

However, they have since delayed the IPO (and are hopefully restructuring it, because if they come up with something respectable this thing could really have a future) and so on the 1st there is a tesnet release instead.

+1

The presale investors have to take all the risk of project failure, while the founders take none. Also, the presale investors will get their shares diluted every year by the mining supply coming in from Botnets and cloud mining.

Possible Scenarios:
a) Ethereum is wildly successful and outperforms BTC (despite its inflationary nature)
Probability: 30%
b) Ethereum is moderately successful(the technology works, but there are some security issues etc.. or adoption is low), out performs fiat but underperforms BTC(due to inflationary nature)
Probability: 40%
c)  Ethereum - takes too long to come out with a viable and secure product. While competitors take the lead. All the while Ethereum's value dies a slow death due to inflation.
Probability: 30%

298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: January 29, 2014, 05:53:05 PM
many people in the thread saying ipo scam, wait to buy coins after-market. during ipo phase 1btc = 2000 ether. how much do you think an ether will be after market?

if btc = $800, that means 1 ether = 40 cents. do you think they will be more or less than 40 cents after market? of all the coins on coinmarketcap 22 are greater than 40 cents.

This isn't the point. The point is the valuation or the market cap. here they aim to raise based on a 24M valuation post money. It can be with a million or a billion coins. doesnt matter. it can also be 5 cent after the IPO and still a good $3M valuation which what I would give in a normal world for a pre-seed concept with good management
Yes, the real issue is the valuation of the company and the dilution of the said share at 40% per year (forever).
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: January 28, 2014, 07:01:24 PM
I've added a question to the list:

(#) Ask them to make the case for why we need Proof of Work and the inflationary model of crypto-equity distribution? If Proof of Work is necessary for securing the blockchain, why aren't they going with a deflationary model which requires Ethers to be destroyed when spent to offset the justified inflation if it must be mined by Proof of Work?
+1

Ethereum might be a victim of its own success. If they end up raising 30 Million. Given that equity will be diluted at launch and there will be 0.4X (12 million supply coming in) + funds divested by investors + salaries payed to ethereum members etc...
We need a fresh infusion of 15 Million just to hold the price. An increase of 10x the price will require - 150 Million coming into the system.
I would say this is a great idea, however not such a good deal for investors.
