281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 23, 2018, 10:14:32 AM
No, I merely pointed out LN is not the only game in town.

you're comparing lightning networks to paypal. if lightning networks had the barest resemblance to paypal they wouldn't be worth discussing here and would not have been developed in the first place. i truly can't believe anyone who's been here a while would make this comparison.

lightning networks do have the potential for centralisation just as bitcoin or bcash does, but it's not baked in and people can work to make sure it's not a certainty.
282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EMAILS AS POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO MAKING CRYPTOCURRENCY MORE ADOPTABLE? on: May 23, 2018, 10:10:09 AM
it's a great idea and byteball can already do this - https://medium.com/byteball/sending-cryptocurrency-to-email-5c9bce22b8a9

everyone has an email address. you don't need to verify anything. this means that right now anyone with an email address anywhere can be inducted into crypto by sending straight from a byteball wallet.
283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 23, 2018, 10:03:50 AM
Offchain scaling requires nothing more than a 3rd party that processes transactions in their own internal system that does not use a coin's blockchain,

wow. you've come up with a brand new system there that's gonna change the world. i know for a fact that the human race has been waiting for a centralised payment system controlled by a third party.

let me suggest a name. something friendly and something that implies money...

paypal?

yeah. that's a great name. good luck.

truly amazing that this has any nominal value. that means someone somewhere out there is actually still buying it from someone.
285  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If I was to offer you on: May 22, 2018, 09:31:55 PM
What else would you want?

full regulation, a banking licence, several years of successful operation and total accountability.

stuff like this pops up all the time. funnily enough we rarely hear anything about them again.
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best coins for profit on cryptopia on: May 22, 2018, 07:23:56 PM
it wouldn't matter to me how good the coin was or what the potential is, i wouldn't trust cryptopia to not fall apart or freeze me. when there are enough reports that they have their operation together i'll take a look.

until then there are many other exchanges where potential money can be made without having to worry about whether you can get it out.
287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is bear mode good to the market? on: May 22, 2018, 05:18:35 PM
it's inevitable and people who believe something will rise forever are fools who are usually the last to the party and the first to leave at a huge loss.

the longer bear mode is avoided the more scary the eventual crash is. compared to other ones in the past we've gotten off pretty lightly but of course it may not be anywhere near over yet.
288  Other / Archival / Re: How to complete a payment process in Amazon by BTC? on: May 22, 2018, 05:15:50 PM
one word of warning: you have to set your miner's fee to "normal" or higher, and it's a very high fee. it's totally overpaying. i paid over 100 satoshi/byte last time.

the upside is it's instant; no waiting for confirmations.

i don't remember doing that myself but i might have been getting rid of bcash instead.

is that high fee mandatory? i'd be tempted to pay the lowest possible to teach those assholes a lesson.
289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 21, 2018, 01:31:42 PM
Ok I see. So the chain is only increasing of the actual size of the blocks an not the theoritical 32MB size.

yep. they've got the luxury of making extravagant claims while not having to deal with the problems they'd bring from maximum usage.
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 21, 2018, 12:35:43 PM
With the new fork, the blocks are at 32 MB now. Does that mean that the Bitcoin cash blockchain is increasing of 4.6 GO everyday? Seems a bit exponential, no?

nope. that's the theoretical maximum and you need real users doing real transactions to reach it. there's no way bitcoin itself gets within 10% of that turnover, let alone a fork that's less known and less used.

at the moment blocks are often less than 0.1mb so blockchain growth is small. i'd love to know how a maxed out chain would pan out but i'm not sure we'll ever find out.
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you in for the TECH or MONEY? on: May 21, 2018, 10:48:27 AM
both.

i find the tech fascinating. the money is very interesting too. in truth i don't know enough about the tech to fully comprehend everything. i'm hoping to learn more but who knows if my old brain can take it.

i hope people are aware of the fact that the tech can triumph just as the amount of money you have tied up plummets. nothing's guaranteed in this.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 18, 2018, 02:42:56 PM
But all of the unbanked people in the world, especially Africa, are supposed to be buying up this coin due to the 32MB blocksize increase. Or do we need to wait for the blocksize to increase to 1 GB? Is that plan a go since nChain stopped funding the Gigabyte project?  Huh

why aren't you buying it all to donate to them? man, some people here are selfish. i've heard the entire third world is gonna be a sidechain on there soon.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 18, 2018, 02:32:11 PM
Why is this strange? Isn't this the fork that is supposed to make BCH make every other cryptocurrency obsolete?

because you'll be able to buy it and use it just fine after the upgrade too. it was obvious this was a pump and nothing but. these aren't the market conditions for any coin's pump to stick and grow into something more significant.

i can understand a fork/airdrop inspiring people to pile in but this wasn't it.

it was a bit of excitement for traders to latch on to. now it's back to business as usual.
294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 18, 2018, 02:20:53 PM
when next BCH pump?

that was a strange and pointless pump, though no one should be complaining unless they bought into it of course. i really hope it wasn't because people were expecting some type of free fork coins again but you never know there might be a surprise fork anyway.
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a database of inaccessible bitcoins? on: May 18, 2018, 01:41:28 PM
sounds like a great database to put yourself on if you're going through a divorce. nothing worse than putting the family fortune into bitcoin and 'losing' it.

OP, how did you lose your bitcoin? if you tell us maybe someone will learn something.
296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Power consumption of Bitcoin mining on: May 18, 2018, 12:38:05 PM
or will there be any new energy-saving mining method for Bitcoin or other coins? How do you think about this?

the only energy saving will be less mining competition and it's hard to say whether that'll happen in our lifetimes.

hopefully more miners will head to places like iceland where the power is geothermal and basically limitless.

i don't care what anyone else says, i think it is a crazy waste of resources. the number of actual users is maybe 0.1-0.5% of banking and gold users.
297  Economy / Speculation / Re: Current steady growth will result in $20K by end of August? on: May 18, 2018, 11:24:55 AM
I still dont see that the market is really in bullish condition, so im not sure it will reach $20k again in August 2018, but maybe at the end of this year.
Its been a long time since i enjoyed a beautiful green day  Cry

you didn't notice it adding over $1000 in the space of a few hours a few weeks back?

the fact that it got to $9990 on that run when the ATH was $19990 tells me we're under the control of some jokers who enjoy making a point. what's needed is an army of rabid newcomers to drown them for a while.
298  Economy / Speculation / Re: Current steady growth will result in $20K by end of August? on: May 18, 2018, 11:09:24 AM
20 grand by august feels unlikely in the extreme to me. you don't have the biggest bubble ever, noodle around for a few months, and then return to the height of the bubble again.

we'll hit 20 grand on the way to the next top and that could be a couple of years away. until then it'll seem like a distant dream. all that's left in the market is bots and scalpers. there's nothing to inspire them to push for the stars again.
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: May 18, 2018, 10:46:21 AM
is it true that we will be listed on binance?

the last price i saw for a listing on there was $7 million plus a bunch more every year for the honor of staying on there. i'll guess the devs ain't too keen to be paying out that much.

the best option is to keep working on it until binance decide they're missing out by not listing it for nothing.
300  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-05-12] Millennials Are Buying Cryptocurrencies to Save For Retirement on: May 18, 2018, 10:25:44 AM
I'm sure they aren't saving ONLY in crypto. Millennials are smart enough to know their dough needs to be divided. People are getting richer younger, and new avenues for investment are always in demand.

i really wouldn't be surprised if many are entirely all in. one thing young people usually have a shortage of is long term strategy.

Do you think that the pension system will exist in next 30-50 years from now, or people will be forced to work while they live? Why would anyone be crazy if invest in cryptocurrency then in a pension fund, trust more to governments then crypto?

It is true that that crypto is just 9 years old, but for anyone who invest less then 50$ in BTC back in 2010/2011 and if he kept coins untill today, we talk about millions $ of profit. That means these people are retired today, and enjoy without stress and fear for their future. I'd rather risk my money in crypto for next 10-15 years, then trust that money to my government - they will fall much sooner then BTC.

i wouldn't be surprised if there are no government supplied pensions in a few decades. they're all effectively ponzis and lifespans, or rather expected retirements, are too long to sustain them.

as for the 9 year old thing, the thing you read anywhere regarding investments is the old past performance is no guarantee of future performance.
