Good fkn god.  Can anyone, I mean anyone, who is a buy-and-hodl person buy a SINGLE bitcoin in the year 2014 and NOT be in the red the following week/month?
Money of the future?  Jesus fk.  No wonder people are now leaving the bitcoin community and not coming back.

I bought in 2013 and I in the green like damn green.

Wait for 2015 if you bought in 2014.

Is one year like impossible for you guys to wait ?

I bought 7 bitcoins on June 9th, 2011 for $30.49, almost the very top of that bubble. I was in the RED about an hour after I bought them until February 23rd, 2013.

And I still have those bitcoins.

And you should have bought 1000 knowing what you know now. Wink

I am sure it was painful for that long period of time though.  There was even more uncertainty then about where Bitcoin was going and how successful it would be than there is now.  Now we can see the infrastructure growing everyday.

Oh no ! Things never changes no ! Bitcoin can only fail !

[say the schizophrenic from the mental institution]

-There always were and always will be people exploiting loopholes in laws and regulations.  Like Bitcoiners managing to circumvent AML and taxation for a while.  That's why teh law is in constant flux, constantly updated by your betters to better serve you, criminal scum
-Duration can not be extended indefinitely.  The ability to extend patents/copyrights is also in flux to best serve you, earthling.
-We are neither innocent nor corrupt.  We is [were/are/will be].

Stop thinking.  It gives your flesh a sour aftertaste.

  ~Your Beneficent Reptilian Overlords.

Oh I love people using "there always were and always will be".

Wow
Much order
Such authority
Very respect

Yeah, keep believing that the world doesn't change.
The more you believe, the more you get butthurt by reality.
That's where you get pleasure from, right ?

World change, people's mind change. Humanity evolve.
There are the ones who anticipate changes and adapt to it and there are the ones that get butthurt...

There is no way governments stay is their current form simply because they do not do any effort to adapt to change.
No Kingdom or Empire ever lasted.

2825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: October 24, 2014, 05:23:22 PM
We are about to go below 0.002 as a long trend.
Is this coin dead? Feeling kind of crap as my investments in CryptoNote coins have been smashed against Bitcoin, which isn't even doing too well itself.

Monero never been so alive. Don't believe that the marketcap at a moment say anything about the future.
We need to focus on development. Developers need funds as an incentive to do their best.
We also need ideas and side projects.

I plan to sell some of my altcoins to buy Monero as it is cheap.
Unfortunately other altcoins are low too. Monero is not the only one.
Remember : Buy low, Sell high
When the price go down, buy more. When it goes up, sell some.

Anarchism has never existed in Western Culture because Christianity.
It did and it existed just fine for several thousand years here and strangely enough the records exist because Christians moving here to escape the inquisition made them. Liquid democracy is a suitable platform for the same system on a global scale.
It's amazing what people consider a wonderful anarchistic society. Their dirt roads and short disease filled lives must have been paradise.
The form of government has nothing to do with scientific progress.
Or... actually yes ! Governments work hard to stop progress and maintain status quo : cut in scientific research to fund social benefits.
Patent anyone ?
A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a sovereign state to an inventor or assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for detailed public disclosure of an invention.
Patenting is totally opposed to open-source.
Open-source come from people, not government.
Says the guy on the internet somewhere in the world using technology his anarchistic heros would have considered god-like.

disclosure : I am not an anarchy dreamer but I don't believe we're going anywhere with government in its current form.

Anyone sucking government balls is just a whore.

You don't need to be. You chose to be.

I respect the life choices of everyone.

Peace. Let's get back to speculation.

2829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The fall of Bitcoin nodes. Why nobody talks about it ? on: October 24, 2014, 04:02:35 PM
What is the cost of running a full node? on VPS?
I have mine with We Love Servers.  60GB SSD (for now rapidly expanding blockchain size) -- price: $2/month. And I can pay in bitcoin.
I could miss $2 a month to support the network. But to me it looks like centralization of bitcoin nodes. Do those nodes share the same ip address? Of so, what's the benefit of running them?
Wouldn't it be better for the network if the nodes are geographically spread around the world, all using different hardware and ip addresses? Or are vps' considered "better than nothing"?
In other words, what's better? A low end home server running a node or a shared centralized node on high end hardware?

Each VPS has a different unique IP.
With most providers, you can chose the location between many countries.
Yes, a VPS does its job as full Bitcoin node.
VPS are great node.

You are looking for a fast and stable Internet connection. The hardware doesn't matter much. You just need enough space on the HDD.

EDIT : As ranochigo said, you must be careful about the settings in bitcoin.conf
You need to ask help and advices from knowledgeable members.

A small government (minimal state) is what is needed before trying anything anarcho-something.
I am for a minimal state as defined as Minarchism.
When most governments will be minimal, we'll see what we can do.
You wish smaller governments, earthling?  Write letters to your local authorities and vote.  Run for office.  We're fine with that, as long as your flesh is tender Smiley

I know exactly what to do.

This is what we must fight. This is the perversion.
You don't get anything by being passive and submissive.
We must fight against corrupted obese government by shutting down the infinite free money generator : the banking system.

No social care bulshit is possible without the ability to print money !

No one will support strong obese government when the FIAT they use to corrupt people will be worth nothing.

USA used to be a minimal state.
USA was never an Anarcho-capitalist state.  Small government is fine, no government = unsustainable, quickly evolving a government or falling under an existing one [pwnge].

When most governments will be minimal, we'll see what we can do.

you start with that and you end up with what we have today, because then you keep adding, for example education, health care.... the systems that we have today didnt just appear in one night, they are the outcome of development of centuries.
Yes, I also agree about changing some corrupt governments and improving things, but I don't think a free libertarian state is any kind of a help, in fact I think it will just make things worst.

this is why states and borders exist, and some kind of enforced regulation has to exist so people can live with each other.
Here's the problem - you're confusing yourself for humanity. That's called projection.
Maybe you need enforced regulations in order to get along with other people. If so, that's a personal problem you should discuss with a competent psychotherapist.
Yea, I have/had major issues getting along with people who have different visions and different life style that I didn't/don't agree with. thanks to the regulations that exists in my home country (Algeria) and here in EU I could still live with them, in other words I lived the CHAOS first hand between 1991-2000, so try to live in a system where having an Islamic orthodox fucking you up and slaughtering everyone against his vision then tell me how to get people to agree on something in a free of regulations state/world where you have many demographics, because you don't know shit about that, I lived it first hand.
Some of you have no fucking idea what freedom means, freedom is necessary but total freedom is CHAOS, regulations are meant for a reason... take Syria for example, watch how a lack of a government worked for these people.... take Iraq for another example, a total CHAOS, a government that cant do shit about losing territory to a terrorist organization that calls it self a state...
I would love to watch how your technological distributed libertarian state will work...

Minimal state would do for example.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minarchism

their only legitimate function is the protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud, and that the only legitimate governmental institutions are the military, police, and courts. In the broadest sense, it also includes fire departments, prisons, the executive, and legislatures as legitimate government functions. Such states are generally called night-watchman states.

USA used to be a minimal state.
2833  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 24, 2014, 03:27:16 PM
Stop worrying about the freedom of other people, just become free yourselves. You cannot change anything, so stop worrying. Stop trying to convince other people your method or theory of government will work for them, just disentangle yourself from the system you dislike and become free.

So true
It is a waste of time to complain about things that you cannot change.
It is just wrong to convince people of what you think is good for them.

We are hard wired to see order and system. Even when there are none. The world is relying on that. The illusion of order is what keeps society structured.

The voice of wisdom !!
Order is an illusion.
Stop giving up your freedom for the illusion of security.

>"In 486, Gaul ceased to be a Roman state by the Franks at the Battle of Soissons. Almost immediately afterwards, Gaul came under the rule of the Merovingians, the first kings of France."
Stay clueless Smiley

Don't try to look more retarded than what you are. There is no "France" in 486. This word has been created much later by historians. The idea of a state does not even exist.

I swear, this thread is worse than a Communist kindergarten  Angry

I swear some people should learn History before opening their mouth :

there are no historical examples that survived for a meaningful length of time.

Start from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 to Early Modern France in 1453 (beginning of what a state look like but still not a state).

There were regional kings and High Kings that sat on large Iron Thrones made from the swords of their slain enemies.
The hierarchy doesn't tell about your wealth or power.
It is only a title.
During feudalism, Kings where most of the time less powerful that rich Duchies.
Err...  Obama is less wealthy than a number of Americans, what's your point?

Obama is not a government. What's your point ?

My point was that (1) Europe used to be extremely decentralized for most of its History and (2) that the title of "King" did not mean that you own anything.

Sorry, I consider myself pretty hardcore libertarian. Feudalism does not really connote freedom. Sure, if you were a lord or king or whatnot, it was probably a pretty fun time (until your rival ran a sword through your gizzards) but the common man had it pretty rough. It wasn't really until firearms came along and started to level the playing field that that was redressed.
However, there were regions and times where freedom was more prevalent and we can see its positive effects within the societies that exist currently. Control? Soviet Russia, North Korea, Communist China. More freedom? South Korea, current hybrid China. Even more freedom? 20th century US and UK. Bit less freedom? Declining 21st century US and UK.

Yes that's right if you compare to now but in Feudalism, people were no more "slaves" like they were during the Roman Empire.
It was still very hard but they had the right to own land and trade which make a big difference.

You think you're kidding but it's true.
At that time, being a kind give no power at all.
There are no state and no frontiers.
Allegiance to the King is only temporarily.

Power is extremely decentralized between many European Noble families.
Each family divide land between members.
Anyone can claim a land at any time.

2838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The fall of Bitcoin nodes. Why nobody talks about it ? on: October 24, 2014, 02:45:17 PM
That's the problem. You are clogging the node's resources if you really do mine. There are certain providers which allow you to mine on their VPS but I could guarantee their price is high and the performance isn't good as people mine on the VPS, consuming the resources. Take a look at the TOS of one VPS provider.
VPS mining is usually forbidden on most VPS unless you have a dedicated server which only you use the whole node. However, they are quite expensive compared to a VPS. I have tried doing it once and I was banned within 24 hours for continuously consuming the whole server resource, this is classified under server abuse and I was terminated immediately.

Just try Linode and DigitalOcean, as long as you pay, they don't bother you.
I used to have like 100 VPS on both. Never had any complain and some of the staff knew what I was doing because I asked them for help few times.

Most VPS miners use Amazon AWS though (c3.8xlarge).
http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/
It is the best to mine and they don't ban for mining but you pay for the bandwidth used if you have too many instances.

The Gold standard was eventually abandoned in 1971.
Deregulation and globalisation : 80s - 90s
Since, the banking system is baked by centralized-obese-governments which is the reason it exist.
So what 20-30 years ? Wow that's all human History !
>Lists of things having nothing to do with anarchy<->governed society debate.
You realize we had governments and laws and consumer protection before 1971, right?  How old r u?
Money is power.
A government have no power if you separate it from bank and the ability to print infinite money.
A government is not necessarily a bad thing, it becomes a monster only if you give him power.
No, money is money, power is power.  But that's beside the point.  The point is centralized governments, in one form or another, existed throughout human history.  While Anarcho-capitalism remained a fiction.

Feudalism anyone ?
Oh I see, you're American.
USA before it becomes fat-USA then ?
