These stupid people at CNN right now seem so confident that US is going to see 0.1 million deaths. It's like... if US (hopefully not) gets to see 0.1 million deaths, Trump will come out and tweet, "told you so!".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch7_t2Ri2Zg&feature=youtu.be

Such a shame the phukking moron wasn’t thrown out of office after impeachment.
Then again if he was and that evolution denying god preaching idiot took over
we’d all still be phucked.

You can't blame it all on one person.  There are countless levels of elected officials in the US all vying for your hard earned wages and various ways to control you; why concentrate all your energies on just one?

Bruno's final exit scam. Please help.

I managed to get it under the 4000 characters and I think time is of the essence here so for the time being, this is the sig if anyone wants to wear it.  I'll continue to tweak it if possible and post any new results here as well.

I'm working on a signature but I'm quite new at it.  Four thousand characters isn't much to work with!  So far I've got this but it's 10X the allowable size:

*removed due to size constraint

 Working on it!

I wanted to point out that those counties seem to have peaked - we're going to beat this thing.  Stay safe.

Even if it's peaked, we shouldn't forget that there are lockdowns across the globe. What's the guarantee that we won't get to see round two of the virus once every place opens again? Undecided

There are experiments happening now using blood plasma from recovered individuals in hopes of transferring their immunity.  Some of the greatest minds in the world are working on potential cures, vaccines and other countermeasures as we type.  The WHO is running a program called SOLIDARITY worldwide using hospitals and patients to test existing antivirals for their efficacy.  Not only that but we have already at least one experiment showing that Macaque monkeys can't become reinfected with COVID-19 which is promising for herd immunity.  Much has already been done by unsung heroes while the rest of us shake in our boots.   We only really have to limit the number of new infections so as not to over-fill the ICU spots we have available; maybe that means isolating the elderly and the otherwise already-at-risk individuals for slightly longer while a vaccine is developed.  Maybe we eradicate this thing just as we did with smallpox.
  This is fine.

Here is the daily increase in the number of cases for the top 8 countries with respect to total number of confirmed infections.  The China graph looks contrived IMHO.

Adapt or die.

Honestly, free market healthcare capacity would be smaller.  Free capital would flee from any institution with unoccupied critical care beds for something more profitable.  Only a government could waste your money on something as frivolous unused infrastructure.

I think the point is we didn't know this was a thing before January. Now that we know, we can better prepare for it. Right now its spreading like wildfire, and we need to contain the spread as it is already overwhelming healthcare infrastructures worldwide.

Want to be clear here: We knew this was coming. We had dress rehearsals with SARS, MERS, and H5N1. We knew what needed to be done. We just decided not to listen, and not to prepare.

This is the logical outcome.

Sorry, but I believe strongly that Reality exists and facing one's errors is critical to ensuring they don't happen again. The problem isn't that "we didn't know" the problem is people willingly choose to ignore facts.

Bingo! All these denialists are doing is adding to the problem. If more people had listened and understood how serious this was in the beginning we wouldn't be in this fucking mess

The initial release from the World Health Organization (Jan 9th 2020).  Read it and weep.

 TL;DR
"According to Chinese authorities, the virus in question can cause severe illness in some patients and does not transmit readily between people."
"WHO does not recommend any specific measures for travellers. WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information currently available."

Right -- totally bizarre lapse of judgment on their part. By now you've probably seen the video of a senior advisor at WHO ignoring questions about Taiwan's handling of the illness. If you haven't, you should watch it, its weird AF:

https://twitter.com/ezracheungtoto/status/1243869774410469376

Sure, as a whole, we should have been better prepared. But we weren't. All we can do now is learn some lessons the hard way and apply this newfound knowledge the next time around.

As my dad said, "it's amateur hour everywhere." Next time we won't be so green on what to do.

While I respect your dad, I don't have his faith in humankind - as a whole, we have an extremely short memory.
 Thanks for the link!

OK, so I'm questioning the quarantine request...

- People remain at home.
- Those who are carriers can't spread the virus to other people.
- Those who don't have it can't get it.
- In total isolation with 100% follow-through rate, it would only take 14-28 days for the problem to subside completely.
- Seeing as how that is not a viable alternative, I think 60 days of fairly stringent quarantine measures is reasonable. People do have to go out to get food and supplies, and people do have to be present at workplaces to deliver them.
- Everybody else whose employment is deemed non-essential will suffer financially.
- A relatively large amount of people are going to die from inadequate medical care.

This is the best case scenario.

Do you disagree with any of these premises or conclusions?

- Not a bad idea. For safety sake just in case this is not a total shitshow.
Do you know anyone personally, to have died from COV19? Does anybody know? (talked to my French buddy yesterday, he knew one 70 year old)
- Yes. How about the carriers before this thing went MSM viral? Or after this outbreak has settled.
- Yes and no. Those who don't have it, will eventually get it. This year or the next.
- Yes and no. Define completely.
- Better make that for the rest of the year, just to make sure that we're all safe.
- Definitely yes. Just because.
- Unfortunately yes. It is a shit world that we live in.

My thesis is that we all (most of us anyway) have COV already. And if we don't have it, we will definitely get it. Maybe not the latest mutated strain, but what ever.
This is how pandemics work imo.

Looks like we mostly agree.
Call me crazy, but tell me why we can't get rid of the regular flu for like decades.

I saw some stats a couple days ago from a Canadian news publication.  Of ~180,000 tested, ~5500 were positive (~60 deaths).  The prerequisites for getting a test are severely skewed in favour of those already infected or exposed to someone infected.

Curious how much of the recent price action has been due to a miner "war" (speculating)? The hash-rate has dropped 45% since the ATH - any thoughts on why?

It's simple, the average cost to mine a bitcoin is higher than the current price so miner's with a higher cost shut down.

It's not quite that simple, some will continue to mine and not sell the coin.  Some have hedged against the price drop by short selling so they can continue operation.

I thought so too at first but it was because I thought she was naked.  Then I realized, you can't legally do that in the USA (and it looked messed up) so she's probably wearing a "nude" bra and panties.

Well, at least plumbers have job security and I would suspect are doing brisk business with all of the replacements people are using to wipe their ass. Only problem is that I am sure plumbers would have difficulty obtaining PPE.

Plumbers probably have a natural immunity to everything based on their work environment.

Newsflash!!!

The Dude bought himself some toilet paper  🧻 today  Grin

I'm jealous Mr. El duderino.  I've had to cut back on fiber to conserve toilet paper.  There's none available in these parts!

so U.S. folks you have to be brave now:

RAMMSTEIN singer Till Lindemann has Covid-19 and is in a hospital in Berlin because he developed high fever but it seems he is not (anymore) in mortal danger.

Well I may have lost my job here as well as access to my own computer.  My daughter took over my computer room, kicking me out until she was finished, and look what she made!  I'm impressed.

Ike is a brown bear with an orange face. He has a constant frown on his face and his eyes are half closed, showing his cranky personality. He initially wears a jungle-camo Shirt.

For a grumpy old bear with an orange face, you sure know how to create a lot of joy for a youngster!  Lots of dancing and celebration here seeing you wear that hat  Smileysimilar to my reaction each time as well.
