Is also a safe bet that Intel would not bow to customer demands to know specific process parameters and chemistries.

/* snipped a case study of attempted theft of the intellectual property */
<snip for brevity>
Which basically means that Intel had shared very detailed electrical and mechanical information with Mentor Graphics to build a detailed analog model of the actual circuits manufactured. The analog SPICE models are electronic, but many electrical parameters have direct equivalence with the mechanical and thermal parameters of the process. In turn anyone licensing Mentor Graphic's toolchain would easily reverse-engineer those.

So when you say "customer demands to know specific process parameters and chemistries": they will get the final specifications of the finished products, but won't get the access (or just very rough access) to the intermediate steps of the fabrication.
snip
Ja. There is no doubt the models can be reproduced but the 'recipe' of what the fab steps are such as the exact chemistry of the photo resists, exposure intensity/time, supplier of equipment used in critical areas, etc.is a whole 'nother story. I highly doubt Intel would release that other than in very general terms.

In our case with our main customer in Taiwan,  the process we developed for them in 2007 is still unmatched in the world. They and the few other much much smaller 'boutique chip' companies that use our systems to make ceramic heat spreaders/interposers hold tight to how we do the voodoo that we do so well. Initially they went as far as covering all machine make/model graphics for when they give dog and pony shows to their clients.

A year after our 1st customer's exclusive use clause expired we published a short bit about it here. While our patents on it of course describe what we do, they *do not* give any info other than chemical family names on what the secret sauce that only we provide is nor any laser parameters used. That very particular bit is what Phillips LumiLEDs needed most to create a 2nd source vendor for their components. Now just past the halfway point of the patents life AFAIK no one has yet replicated it though I'd think that any good  chem lab could easily break it down if they got a sample of it...

As for NODEhaven, ja unless they have connections in the semi biz that can put in a good word for them with Intel they are in for an uphill battle...

edit: hmm. That short blurb and the more detailed PR description really need to be updated.... We've progressed far beyond that...

^^ Well I stand corrected. At least I did preface with 'As Far As I Know'...

Is also a safe bet that Intel would not bow to customer demands to know specific process parameters and chemistries.

In our case Phillips-LumiLEDs Lighting tried to do that a few years back to a customer of ours by saying that they needed all of that info "for their in-house QA records as part of six-sigma". Both we and our customer flat-out refused. Process yields and production records dealing with their product - fine but no way in hell do they need specific 'how-to-info"...

Kicker is -- a few months later when Phillips was in a meeting with that customer during a presentation one of the reps had a brain fart putting it together and somehow an email mentioning their efforts to get process IP to develop a 2nd source popped up on the projector screen for all of management there to see. Needless to say they were pissssssed!
2883  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Intel Hardware Accelerator for Mining on: April 20, 2018, 05:54:54 PM
I am reaching out to Intel labs.  I will report back if I find out anything interesting.  I don’t currently know of anyone using their foundry for BTC ASICs.

Edit: haven't heard back from them at this point
AFAIK Intel has never contracted out their fabs to anyone outside of the Intel family.
I can understand why - doing so inevitably leads to process IP leakage. One way it happens is from a customer pushing to get enough information so they can leak to another fab under the guise of "creating a 2nd source 'just in case'..."
2884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: April 20, 2018, 03:00:13 PM
Hi guys,
Did anyone received yet tracking numbers or machines themselves for batch 2? I got "DragonMint 16T Miner (April Batch 2) × 5" and it's still showing as "processing".
I also have an order for the second batch, order # in the high 1800's, and it still shows as processing. My guess is that they'll ship on the last possible date in April! Good luck and keep us posted. I'll post if I receive a tracking number.
Just in case, anyone getting their BFL-style pitchforks ready?

Thought I would leave a post regarding my experience with Halong and MyRig's customer support (it hasn't been positive).

Upon receiving my 5x T1's, I noticed two of them had seemingly defective hashboards (one on each, chain 1 wasn't appearing on either miner and they were only pulling 2/3rd wattage). I sent an e-mail to Halong letting them know the issue and they suggested I try the new firmware update, which I did, but continued to have the same issue. After going back and fourth a bit they finally suggested I reach out to MyRig.com and submit a ticket for repair. I e-mailed MyRig over a week ago with all of the pertinent information. After a bunch of back and fourth they agreed to pay the return shipping to have both miners sent back for repair. They gave me the address and told me they'd send the UPS labels shortly after. That was about 4 days ago and have yet to get a response, even after sending them 2 additional e-mails. Needless to say I'm extremely frustrated, having waited several months to receive these just to have 2x not working properly. Then on top of that getting the run around from the service department. I will keep everyone posted on what happens. Hoping someone from MyRig sees this post and expedites the request.
And so it begins. Will be following this to see how/if they respond....

Ok, who has one of the s7's I donated to Sidehack for him to uv/uc and resell, specifically the one with Ant45s7b6 written on it?

At least one of the pool settings is still pointed at me as a failover and it came alive about 8P Eastern last night. While I appreciate the brief added hash rate ya might want to make sure it remains pointed at your user name and not mine... Wink

Why mining here works. I had a power outage on Sunday and it messed up my internet so I was disconnected from Kano for 2.5 days. In those 2.5 days we hit 4 blocks. Now because it was ramping down my rewards were a little less, but not nothing. Took a little bit of the stress out of being down for a few days. Im stoked to be here and am adding TH as fast as I can. Hope to find a block here one day. Thanks everyone and Mine On!!!
Ahhhh, the beauty of 5Nd...the same 5Nd that newbies view as the bad guy for some strange reason!

Ja. as I said earlier today
Quote
This is where the 5n comes in very handy -- despite dropping about 100THs for 24hrs my N avg rate (what ya get paid for) only dropped to 287.85THs vs 298.73 before the outage.
In my case power is never a problem as the miners at home are fed by always on-line UPS's from Cyberpower and Tripplite to hold over until my whole house LP gas genset kicks in about 20sec after power fails.

This has been the first time the DSL has ever been down for more than a few min at most and even that is rare.

Anyone aware of a way to have OpenWRT email you on the temps reported by cgminer for the Avalon miners?

on a related note, is there an add-on or something that can be used to have cgminer email temps?

As far as I know, nope.

You would have to code system like that yourself.
Only thing I can think of is to use monitoring software like Awesome Miner
Which can be set to monitor various miner conditions by looking at the cgminer API and yes can send a text/email when alarms thresholds are exceeded.

On a side note, rather surprised that Frodo has moved the AM thread to the altcoin area....

Currently I have one S9(13.5) running on Kano and I have room for at least one more S9 by my calculations . (I briefly looked at the Dragonmint 16T but the extra cost for the power doesn't seem worth it to me)  I do wonder like most, if something will be released soon that would make me wish I waited a hair longer but I'm not a patient person Wink
<snip>
Forget thee not that the Halong Dragon mint only works with pools supporting AB. So far only 2 pools support it and Kano is NOT one of them. (yet)
2891  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: April 18, 2018, 05:53:56 PM
These miners have surprisingly exact same design and exact same technical specifications as the Dragonmint altcoin miners.  Roll Eyes
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3345156.0

Innosilicon equals Halong Mining.

Ref.,
in some car brands and models, including the VW Up that I have,
VW Up, Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo. Three different car brands,
but this is the exact same vehicle.

Different brand name, but the product is same.

I was about to post the same; these newly released Blake miners have the exact same specs as the Halong counterparts.  Never mind the fact that they look the exactly the same, too.

At this point I wonder if Inno is going to spin off their crypto business.  They build other electronic devices as well, perhaps this is a move to "realign" both brands.

I shot them an email to pick their brain, we'll see if they respond!
That would not surprise me. Inno is mainly a custom IC design house and got into the crypto coin biz when Bitmine.ch hired them to design the A1 chip back in 2013. Despite the Bitmine.ch/AMT debacle they saw Gold in them thar chips which led to them doing the A2 script ASIC and others. Spinning off actual miner making to others like Halong makes sense to let them get back to their roots.

Hallelujah the internet at home is finally back up after being out for just over 24hrs
This is where the 5n comes in very handy -- despite dropping about 100THs for 24hrs my N avg rate (what ya get paid for) only dropped to 287.85THs vs 298.73 before the outage.
Was weirdly quite during the outage... Gave me a good non-mining household power reference as well, meter read 0.683kWh consumption vs the usual 6.34kWh with the miners running. At least with DirecTV satellite and OTA TV still had the telly Wink

My s9 is back online....now to raise the hash rate again!
MINE ON WITH KANO-SAN!
The s9 b23 at my main farm is also back up. Sorta.
Replaced the control board with one from a batch-13 (non-auto tune) that I had been using for spares. Works perfect and even better yet now that Frankenstein once again has Freq. control Smiley
Ohhhhhhh, I didn't know that was possible - non-auto tune control on a new S9.   Any chance you have other older controllers around?  Would you be interested in a swap?  (newer for older)
Wasn't sure if it would work but so far the combination is very happy.

Sorry, that 1 s9 was my only spare. I have s9's from batch-1 on up but am not about to cripple the older ones by dropping in auto-tune controllers...
Bumped the freq up from 575MHZ to 600 and hash rate climbed from ~11.8 up to 12.9THs. Happy happy happy!

I don't get these HalongMining haters:

1) We have one of the world biggest chip manufacturers (Samsung) entering the miners race
2) 100% legal by Innosilicon confirming they are in partnership with Halong
3) Confirmed lowest W/GH on the market after the firmware update
4) Shipping date respected from Halong even for series 0 equipment
5) Price of  Bitmain gear drown down significantly because of healthy competition
6) Finally a realistic chance to break evil monopoly on mining gear

Instead of jumping up and down Halong did all this in a few months, I see constant nagging and whining and bad energy. What more do you want?
Samsung has 'been in the miner chips' biz for several years - not new. They made the 14nm chips for BW.com. What is new is they're now taking more clients since TSMC can't supply all needed.

What 'we' want is the the miners to work on ALL pools - not just ones that have their code tweaked to accept Little Dragon's AB design that Halong is using. Nothing at all was said about this until 3 months after sales started. Folks purchased them under the impression they would work on ALL pools - not just a very select few.

Then there is Halong and Little Dragon Technology LLC's (holder of the AB patent) intense secrecy as to who actually owns/runs them. Hell they won't even give a City/Provence/street address for contact. All they give is their Lawyers:
Little Dragon Technology LLC
c/o Getech Law LLC
203 N LaSalle, Suite 2100
Chicago, IL 60601

And once again the 'net at home is down, so far for the past 40 min. There goes 78-80THs again...
Narf

At home I use a failover from Fibre to wireless LTE since bandwidth usage isn't that high for the miners - did that after the first time my primary network disappeared for a few hours.
Actually, since I started mining in Feb. 2014 this is the 1st time the 'net at home has gone down for so long. Usually might rarely be out for a few min but that was it. Got monster on-line UPS's and NG fueled permanent backup generator to handle power outages but the 'net being out like this is a 1st for me.

Just lost an s9 batch 23 here at work as well, for the past couple months this one has had a weird board reporting >20THs. Now not rebooting...
When it rains it pours! Glad I have 2 more A841's arriving on Wed to start taking the place of dying s9's...

Looks like we lost CryptoBoreas about 45 min ago...I saw a maintenance outage for NFLHydro for today, but it was for earlier...

Always sumthin'... Cool
ja. Last week our companies new Xfinity biz internet service went down from sun 11:45p until my partner showed up at 6:am Monday and had to cycle the power to the cable modems to bring it back up. That of course took my main farm @210TH offline...

Today thanks to the lovely ice storm we had Sunday morning there are still tree limbs coming down... You guessed it. Lost internet at my house for 6 hours dropping 78THs. At my GF's house where 2x 741's reside the 'net has been out for the past 20hrs....

Damn that really spoils the look of my shift graph...
