Looks like we lost CryptoBoreas about 45 min ago...I saw a maintenance outage for NFLHydro for today, but it was for earlier...

Always sumthin'... Cool
ja. Last week our companies new Xfinity biz internet service went down from sun 11:45p until my partner showed up at 6:am Monday and had to cycle the power to the cable modems to bring it back up. That of course took my main farm @210TH offline...

Today thanks to the lovely ice storm we had Sunday morning there are still tree limbs coming down... You guessed it. Lost internet at my house for 6 hours dropping 78THs. At my GF's house where 2x 741's reside the 'net has been out for the past 20hrs....

Damn that really spoils the look of my shift graph...

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

ja. 2 weeks ago our companie's new Xfinity biz internet service went down from sun 11:45p until my partner showed up at 6:am Monday and had to cycle the power to the cable modems to bring it back up. That of course took my main farm @239TH offline...

Today thanks to the lovely ice storm we had Sunday morning there are still tree limbs coming down... You guessed it. Lost internet at my house for 6 hours dropping 78THs. At my GF's house where 2x 741's reside the 'net has been out for the past 20hrs....

...and that is why I have a backup connection from AT&T wireless.  Comcast Business works most of the time, but it is cable service. So it fails from time to time. When it works, it is great. But it takes a while for them to roll a truck. Cell service is much more reliable, but not particularly high performance.

Fortunately you don't need a high-speed connection for miners.   Most home cable speeds are "overkill" for moderate-sized mining farms.

Install Bitcoin Core on Linux, they say. It'll be fun, they say--actually nobody said it'd be fun per se, but I am learning a lot! Grin

Stay tuned... Looks like I'll be using Lubuntu on an old machine. More updates to come in the future.
Update: Lubuntu installed and updated with Bitcoin Core! Just need another day for the blockchain to download, and "I'm ret ta go!" Cool

Amazing what you can accomplish during an evening without the wife and kids. Wink

I dont understand

Block 516020 : 26.02 th = 0.00340062
Block 518453 : 34.85 th = 0.00304761

What is this Huh

Block 516020 - Pool N Avg 96.95 PH/s
Block 518453 - Pool N Avg 144.95 PH/s

Your % of the hash of the pools hash decreased as the pool grew faster than your hash rate average
... and the most important point ...
When the pool hash rate goes up we expect to average more blocks per time period.
So you expect to average the same reward.
e.g. if the pool hash rate doubled, you'd find you'd be getting half the reward per block as before, but the pool would be expecting to get twice as many blocks ... same overall expected result.
Thanks

Announcement from Caanan concerning the A8

Quote
821Annoucement

Yesterday in  Hangzhou we announced our Avalon 821, and laid out the roadmap for the 841, 861, 921 and Avalon 10 series.

Avalon 741 is end of life: the last batch is being produced and is promised to customers/distributors who will receiving their final shipments shortly.

Avalon 761, our solution with integrated PSU  is likewise End of Life. The last batch is being built and will ship out in early Jan.

821:  The Avalon 821 will ship at 11 TH (terahash) and 1200 Watts for a power efficiency of 109Watts per TH, a great improvement over the 741 which was rated at 150 Watts/TH.

841: the Avalon 841 will ship at 13TH and 1200 Watts for a power efficiency of  92 Watts/TH. I expect this to be a Q2 Product.

It's too early to talk about the 861 (integrated PSU), the 921 and 10 series, but 2018 promises to be a great year.

821 Prices:   We have not yet settled on price for 821, but it will be driven by market forces and the price of Bitcoin. Demand for product is more than 10X of the supply and the pricing in the spot market clearly reflects this. As well, the price of BTC has drawn in many new customers. As soon as I have pricing I will communicate it to you. Please do not ask for it, we will tell everyone at the same time.

Ship dates: After we finish the last 741 and 761,  the 821 will go into production in January. I wish I had exact dates, but as of today I only have estimates. We should be able to ship to a small number of customers in late January. We will contact the customers who have been selected for January shipment, so please be patient.

In February and March volumes will increase, but be advised that February has Chinese New Year and we will shut down between the 14th and the 23rd.

Distributors:  We are no longer accepting applications for resellers. Given the constraints in supply, we will only add a small number of new distributors. Hopefully in Q2 we will be able to open up the opportunity. If you have signed up, we will be going over our list and making our selections.

New Forecast:  When I have pricing I will be asking everyone to do a new forecast based on the pricing. A forecast is your estimate of how many machines you will order. Do not simply put down a large number to get my attention. We select customers both large and small and if you do not order what you forecast your entire order will be cancelled.

So capabilities outlined but no prices yet.
Looks to be an interesting 2018.

Please forgive me if this has been asked and answered.
Can You chain together an Avalon 821 to an Avalon 841? Not sure if there would be any firmware issues?
Thought I read something here a while back about the problem of chaining different Avalon models together?
Thanks in advance for any input.

It did a disconnect/reconnect at 9:58 UTC and beeped at me Tongue
It reconnected immediately, so yeah you would have failed over and back.
The code for failback waits for 5 minutes so you have to put up with that long (useless) delay.
No idea why it didn't failover to the 2nd pool - I guess the miner failover code sux ... yeah it has for years Tongue

No worries... If I had the inclination I'd take a look at the failover code...but I prefer to spend my free time playing with Lego instead  Grin

A - Perhaps next time post this in the Official Canaan Avalon thread?
B- Yes the 821 and 841 can run together. Just DO NOT apply any firmware upgrades as it is applied to ALL miners on the controller.

Good Tuesday! Greetings from Kano. Is(land), where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the hash is SHA256.

The first 1TH-4-5Nd hash giveaway run is complete. Congratulations to BSGMiner!! You're ramped up an additional terahash!
There were a couple of blips on this end, so I ran a little over, just to be sure we got the full 5Nd in there.

Now that the first 1TH-4-5Nd is done, it's time to unharness the mice and let them rest. They did an awesome job of getting the hash out.

Okay, at the risk of repeating myself:

Who wants one terahash for 5Nd?

If it's YOU, send me a PM with your Kano Pool user name. (if you mine to an address, that's okay - you're eligible, too!)

The second round of 1TH-4-5Nd entries will close at 23:00 UTC Thursday, April 19. The winner will be announced shortly after 00:01 UTC Friday, April 20.
That's right! Just in time for a BTCig BTClock Weekend!

Good luck to all!!

It's time for me to attend to the cubbyhole in the sub-basement. Igor from Überwald, and my new assistant, Billy Miner, await. We have to do a few updates and upgrades down here before I can grow this operation.

Until next time, may all your shares be below target!

Just lost an s9 batch 23 here at work as well, for the past couple months this one has had a weird board reporting >20THs. Now not rebooting...
When it rains it pours! Glad I have 2 more A841's arriving on Wed to start taking the place of dying s9's...
