301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk Tech Grin Asics on: April 17, 2019, 08:54:28 PM
So how long would you consider this asic tech to be profitable before difficulty goes through the roof? Should I invest in one of these? What do you guys think?

Some calculations on grin forum showed that if the price of grin is still at its current price (obviously unlikely), 2500 Obelisk units get sold, AND no other company comes out with a competing asic that the break even point would be a little over 500 days.  Of course they will be obsolete before then as there will be algo changes

That calculation is wrong.

From what Taek stated on Grin forums (https://www.grin-forum.org/t/obelisk-grn1-full-sale/4773/30), there's potential to mine 12 million grin before C31 phases out between April and August 2020, with mining starting in October.  So that's about ~270 days to put in the middle. At that point each of the 2500 machines would net $11,800 after electricity. So break even would be around 225-250 days.

Of course the AND conditions apply, which mean this will not happen.

Obelisk seems to be pricing the GRIN1 at some highly inflated value of Grin in the future. In which case you are better of buying grin directly instead of going through all the drama with Obelisk.

That is way to long for me to risk buying it. Inflationwise I expect Grin to drop in price going forward, when that were to happen second hand prices for the asic would drop pretty hard I guess.
302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do to recover your losses? on: April 17, 2019, 08:45:30 PM
First of all, a very hyped ICO might be somewhat overpriced to begin with. Second of all I would try to look behind all the hype and focus on the core tech behind the coin/token and also the team behind it.
303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you borrow in cryptocurrency? on: April 17, 2019, 08:42:38 PM
As long as I join a crypto currency, I have not heard that there are parties offering loans in crypto currencies. If indeed there are parties who offer loans in crypto currency then this is a great breakthrough because it can provide capital to those who have financial limitations. If indeed there is borrowing in the form of crypto currency then I am one of those who will take advantage of this convenience. Besides that, I hope there are also those who offer crypto currency insurance. In this very volatile crypto currency, insurance is an option to guarantee our crypto currency.

What cryptocurrencies would be best suited for such an business? Or would it even matter if you were to borrow in BTC, LTC, ETH or any of the bigger cryptos out there.
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What coin should I 'mine' with my laptops? on: April 17, 2019, 08:39:55 PM
You can, but you will not get big profits.
Use pools in not very popular coins you can recoup your equipment. But again, I'd rather have bought something stationary that was made specifically for this.
And buy coin directly is much better rather than burning our laptops for nothing. I can say that it will not give any profit and that will destroy his laptop and it will decrease the performance of laptop itself.
Mine through any laptop or notebook is worthless
even if the laptop or notebook have a good spec, it's better not to do it. because its durability is lower than a computer, even though it imposes a time limit for mining, it will waste of time. Trading is much better even with small capital.

High specked laptops are expensive, at least the new once are. Profits mining on a laptop would be slim at best and you risk damaging your expensive laptops. I say it's not worth the risk.
305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you borrow in cryptocurrency? on: April 17, 2019, 08:37:36 PM
Crypto is not unpredictable in short term, so if you would like to borrow, then better to look for s long term like a year or two.
Before borrowing, think of it that the money you will use for buying crypto can swing from time to time. And as much as possible, not just a long term like around those years but you should be able to understand on what you are buying.

You mitigate the risk and you are dedicated with that decision because once the market dip, you may never know on how long you need to wait and when it will start to recover. These are the few points before borrowing and actually there are plenty of it.

Fluctuation risks could be at least somewhat mitigated by borrowing in a stablecoin or a basket of stablecoins. Maybe stablecoins are the future for cryptobanking. Who knows.
Yeah you can mitigate it that way but we are all in crypto because of the volatility, usage and the potential profit that we may get from accepting the risk of being volatile.

What would be the purpose of investing with borrowed or your very own money if you will just by stable coins? their value never change and you are likely to get exact amount with what you invested.
I don't see any good reason taking the risk without any expected outcome benefits, most of us if not everyone are aiming for potential profits so it's really about making money with your investment or even with the lend money that you will be investing inside this market, if you really believe and you have passions to learn more about this industry, borrowing money for the sake of much better results can be performed.

Well, lets just think about borrowing in for instance BTC, you invest that borrowed amount in fiat account, BTC drops, you buy back BTC at lower price and pocket the profit.

307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome to the future on: April 16, 2019, 08:57:07 PM
People getting forced to embrace to use cryptocurrency i think its just possible in the future, but it still takes alot of things and efforts for bitcoin to be accepted by the government  which is needed in order to push bitcoin as one of our official currency in the world
The future is now in the use of digital technology that reaches the whole world in one hand, namely Android phones. All available and connected to do any activity as long as internet access is available.
Therefore cryptocurrency users don't have to worry about having problems when investing or trading because they can be done anywhere for 24 hours, so they can keep up with the latest developments that will be analyzed when making a decision.

I would agree that Android phones can be key to the future of cryptocurrencies. In the world in general, more people have got Android phones than pc's. Phones are usually always on too, pc's not so much always on.
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are Mining Still Profit? on: April 16, 2019, 08:53:42 PM
Depends on your electricity price and a bit of luck. If you don't go to mine the mature coins you can try to mine some altcoins... maybe you are mining a future gem. if you are only mine to sell in an instant you have to try it by yourself. mine a day and check your return vs your electricity costs.

Nobody would know for sure what cryptocurrencies would be a future gem. If you pick the wrong ones, you might just end up wasting your time, electricity and hardware on a dead duck.
309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you borrow in cryptocurrency? on: April 16, 2019, 08:50:14 PM
I have not borrowed in cryptocurrency before but I think when the need arises, its not bad to borrow in cryptocurrency. That's the advantage of being an investor in cryptocurrency.

Another (better) question would be why would you borrow in cryptocurrency in stead of somewhere else? Also who would let me borrow in cryptocurrency?

So whats up with the dashboard of x-bankbeing in maintainance for about a week. Is everything ok over at x-networks. I hope so i have high hopes for this team.

They are probably improving it, and a good thing that is too, quite a few bugs. Hope they fix a lot of those bugs and we will all be a lot happier. Exiting times ahead for X-cash.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] eBTC | The New (ERC20) Bitcoin on: April 13, 2019, 07:43:26 PM
Seeing long periods of gaps between posts and absence of new team from the thread don't know what to believe. They should have been highly active to show presence even if they dodn't have anything to share but showing up can change the perspective. I returned to this thread after long time just to see those claimed made by new team has been delivered or not yet but here is nothing on regular basis.

Long periods of gaps between posts and absence of new team simply means the token is dead. Just let it go, it was fun last year when this was all the rage, now not so much.

313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are Mining Still Profit? on: April 13, 2019, 07:40:05 PM
Yes, you can still mine at a profit. Simply buy the most expensive gpu's you can find, move to a country where electricity is inexpensive and you're good to go. That wasn't so hard was it.
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lets be careful on what we are investing on: April 13, 2019, 07:38:02 PM
It's really hard to tell sometimes, often you have to simply cross your fingers and hope for the best. As always, never invest any more than you can afford to lose.
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lets be careful on what we are investing on: April 11, 2019, 11:09:20 AM
this has always been a major factor for any investor. before risking any amount or tokens into a project, thorough research and study on the team behind the specific project is a necessity. monitor their social media handles as well with their whitepaper and get a deep insight into the project before investing and I think with these requirements, you are good to go.

Depends on whether the guys that invest have ADHD or are impulsive in some other way, or even possibly drunk or high on weed or cocaine at the point on when they decide to buy into a project. Wont be much research or monitoring if that is the case, otherwise I agree with you.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome to the future on: April 11, 2019, 11:06:08 AM
In the near future people won't have choice but to embrace cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, whether you are in support or not ,whether you hate it or not ,you will be the one to stand up and embrace crypto yourselves without anyone forcing you to ,adoption is simply adoption ,love it or hate it

I think that cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, together with fiat backed government money will exist side by side for a very long time forward. I dont see that changing in the near future.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Stablecoins have a future? on: April 11, 2019, 11:02:36 AM
I can't see any reason why stablecoin could not have a future as long as they have their value pegged to usd and many investors still sort them out for reserve, it is essential to have stablecoin for sole purpose of the stability and has less fluctuation compare to other non stablecoin,
except when suddenly all stablecoin no longer pegged to the value of usd then who knows what will happen.

Stablecoins are kind of pointless in my view, what are they around for? You might just as well keep your funds in fiat. The real upside is in the newest tech crypto technology.
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will the governments ban all privacy cryptocurrencies ? on: April 11, 2019, 10:59:00 AM
Mostly China I think and maybe Russia. In other words most democracies will probably not ban cryptocurrencies, but it's hard to predict what the future will look like for sure.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk Tech Grin Asics on: April 11, 2019, 10:53:08 AM
Do not trust Obelisk.
I am a victim of pre-order their DCR1. I had paid $1,599 for each pre-order DCR1 in 2018.1 , delay and delay, more than a year later, their products are still difficult to produce. Now their solution is buy-back each DCR1 with $300. Nothing send to me, and i lost $45,000.
They won't come to a good end.

And all that from a newbie with a whopping 1 post here at bitcointalk. What proof have you got of your accusations? People need to back up their claims if anyone are to believe them.
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What was your biggest mistake launching your coin? on: April 10, 2019, 08:17:55 PM
I don't think there are lots of people on this forum which also created a cryptocurrency. And the ones that created won't be posting this thread probably.

I also think most of the guys here never launch their own coins. I think you would need a good idea and a good team behind your idea, otherwise it's a waste of your own and others time.
