301  Other / Meta / Re: Creation of a new .onion url for bitcointalk.org? on: September 26, 2015, 04:27:21 AM
Is there any possible downside to it? Also, how many resources would have to go into making the .onion site? I only ever once used TOR, and went to the darknet wiki... Also, not to derail this thread, but what are some good .onion sites I should know about.

302  Other / Meta / Re: Creation of a new .onion url for bitcointalk.org? on: September 26, 2015, 02:59:06 AM
I agree, that would be just an add-on.

But a very nice add-on such as:

Facebook: facebookcorewwwi.onion

Blockchain.info: blockchainbdgpzk.onion/

DuckDuckGo: 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion
303  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Joinmarket - Coinjoin that people will actually use on: September 24, 2015, 03:16:46 AM
How about publishing some (weekly/monthly) "traded" volume statistics at Joinmarket in the (near) future?

That would be good to spread the word and to get more attention (and liquidity) to this project too.
304  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] BitfinexLendingBot - A bot for automated lending at Bitfinex on: September 21, 2015, 03:23:48 AM
Interesting statistical data about your Bot: "BitfinexLendingBot Strategy Evaluation"

Last record is from 2015-05-17, do you have it updated with recent data?
305  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitgen 0.4 released on: September 19, 2015, 02:51:03 AM
Interesting, just another tool for generating addresses? Can it do vanity addresses? It would be nice to have a tool other than vanitygen.
This one has tons of features over vanitygen.

[...]
Salt and KDF would certainly improve the security, should hopefully be included before version 1.0 is released.
Nice to hear that. It's good to see that you worry about security.

BTW thanks for developing that dice feature to help improve random key generation. It's almost like Diceware feature. It's very helpful!

Consider creating a Github/Gitlab repository for Bitgen.
306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinCap.io- Realtime Market Data of All Cryptocurrencies and Digital Assets! on: September 18, 2015, 03:33:04 AM
Nice project. Full of (realtime) statistical data.

I liked that "Dominance Index" thing: DOX??? :-)

It's good to see the Bitcoin (BIG) weight over all those altcoins. I never visualized it so clear before.

Congratulations!

I suggest that you show only 100 coins per page. Otherwise it's an endless (heavy) list for just one page.

Keep up the good work.
307  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Coinbend: a functional decentralized cryptocurrency exchange on: September 17, 2015, 03:13:27 AM
[...]
How it works
[...]
Since micro-transfer amounts are designed to be as small as possible: any potential losses that might occur will be negligible and the impact of a hacked exchange would have minimal effects. In order to further reduce the risk of p2p trading: Coinbend also includes a secure refund feature. Refunds ensure that an owner's coins will eventually return to them in the event of a broken trade and work by using a new cryptographic construct called the timechain instead of traditional malleable refunds.
[...]

Nice to know that you created some kind of refund feature and found a way to implement it into a decentralized exchange. I guess implementing that idea took a little time and some additional effort, didn't it?

[...]
(Also, please let me know if I should keep working on this as I've already put in a huge amount of time with no reward and a lot more is still needed to get this to beta.)
[...]
Sure you should carry on!

Congratulations for your great project.

P.s. don't forget to publish some account for receiving donations.

Keep up the good work.
308  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Joinmarket - Coinjoin that people will actually use on: September 16, 2015, 02:29:58 AM
This is a nice project.

So interesting that IMO It should even be suggested as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal - BIP.
309  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [LIST] Compilation of Brainwallets, Paper wallets & Multisig Address Generators on: September 15, 2015, 05:21:15 AM
Thanks for putting this together.  It's nice to see brainwallet.io on the list!

I'm surprised to see bitaddress.org ranked so low.  Is theirs not considered true random?
Those distortions have been corrected by using new calculation method.

i.e. Security features are 3x more important than collaborative development (Git points) AND Security features are 6x more important than everything else...

Maybe I'll raise that Security weight even more (to 8x OR even 10x).

Let's see how everything "behaves".
310  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] B&C Exchange - A decentralized exchange paying BTC dividends - 89% funded on: September 14, 2015, 05:40:28 PM
If shareholders vote to burn undistributed BlockShares, the relative percentages for each group would change, but every group would have a higher percentage of equity of the network.

I see. Tks for clarifying. It was not really clear since the ~ is difficult to interpret correctly.
So there is a still an incentive for everybody not to go far beyond 200k total at least from a financial perspective since you get more shares for the same money invested but this is to be decided by shareholders ultimately.
Also, what would not change is the price that seed investors got: 2 usd a share whatever the total raised money.
I guess I misunderstood that...and got the wrong value paid by 1st seed investors...

Unnecessary piece of comment removed...
311  Other / Archival / Re: SearchTrade.com Using Bitcoin to Reinvent the Search Engine Business on: September 14, 2015, 02:19:41 PM
How much did keywords like "sex" and "porn" cost?

Is the company going to publish info like that?

BTW how do you intend to fight back serchbots that's gonna make repeated searches with the same keyword in order to profit from that?
312  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] p2sh.info - Monitor pay to script hash use and spread on: September 13, 2015, 02:03:09 PM
A good source of statistical analysis about P2SH use over the blockchain.

Nice project indeed.
313  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitgen 0.4 released on: September 13, 2015, 11:51:53 AM
Bitgen version 0.4 has been released:

http://bitcoin-gen.org/

The bitgen software generates bitcoin addresses from a given or generated random number.
The generated addresses can be used for cold storage.

I've just added this precious piece of software to my list here (if you don't mind):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1164163.0

Tens of features, very well done! Congratulations for the effort!

Do you have any Github/Gitlab repository for that?

If not, I suggest that you create one.

Keep up the good work.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Options for Securing your Bitcoin wallet on: September 13, 2015, 05:08:15 AM
One Question:

What do you recommend?

There isn't one recommendation as people should use multiple wallets and be willing to weigh risk/convenience.

What I do now -
Spending - Use Mycelium HD wallet(with pin) on my android with 200 usd of bitcoin max. HD seed backed up physically in safe.
Spending - Use Bitcoin QT wallet on my primary computer with 200 usd of bitcoin max with a completely unique and high entropy password. There are many security practices that need to be done with primary computer.
Savings - Entropy with Shamir’s 2-of-3 Secret Sharing Scheme for my cold storage savings where 1 key is encrypted in my password manager, the second key is laminated in my safe, and the third key is laminated and secured in an offsite location.

What is slightly less secure but acceptable for many-
Spending - Use Mycelium HD wallet(with pin) on my android with 200 usd of bitcoin max. HD seed backed up physically in safe.
Spending - Use Bitcoin QT wallet on my primary computer with 200 usd of bitcoin max with a completely unique and high entropy password. There are many security practices that need to be done with primary computer.
Savings - offline computer with clean fresh linux install that never touches any external HD / memory/ network that the primary computers touch and with no extra software installed and just used to store your bitcoins. It is better to physically disable your network wifi card but acceptable to simply not connect to the network unless needing to download the blockchain.

Or using a hardware wallet, or using multiple paper wallets/coins with different ballances on them and properly secured(if they are created securely.

In other words you need to read the information in the first post and use cold storage for security of your savings.

It's very nice to know that Shamir's Secret Sharing Scheme is getting more popular as a tool for cold storage.

There's an implementation called PassGuardian that helps a lot with that task.

I've added info about it under my list here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1164163.0
315  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: brainwallet.io on: September 10, 2015, 04:40:44 AM
@unchi

How many characters are allowed at passphrase field? Is there a specific length limit?

I couldn't find that info while reading your code.
316  Economy / Gambling / Re: www.chopcoin.io - The new interactive Bitcoin game! on: September 09, 2015, 12:42:18 PM
Nice to see more skill based games around.

Very well done. Congratulations!
317  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Bitmessage - P2P Messaging system based partially on Bitcoin on: September 08, 2015, 12:36:16 AM
@Atheros and Bitmessage related developers,

What's the hash algorithm used in order to generate deterministic addresses by inserting a passphrase? Is it: sha256(passphrase)?

Is the "Address version number" and the "Stream number" used like Salts?

P.s. I didn't find that info while reading your whitepaper.

That's a kind of a Brainwallet. Interesting.

Congratulations for all your hard work throughout those years.

* Edit.

I just found this info here: https://bitmessage.org/Bitmessage%20Technical%20Paper.pdf

Code:
Else if calculating an address deterministically using a passphrase:
private_signing_key = first 32 bytes of SHA512(passphrase || "\x00")
private_encryption_key=first 32 bytes of SHA(passphrase || "\x01")

If SHA512 is used for that matter, wouldn't implementing KDF + Salt a safer way to generate those deterministic addresses?
318  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitaddress.org Safe JavaScript Bitcoin address/private key on: September 07, 2015, 11:22:17 PM
Hi guys.

What is the best method of sweeping the paper wallet?

I don't want to use blockchains android app, what other ways can I withdraw from my bitaddress paper?
Do you mean you want to do a offline transaction?

If so, there are some alternatives to sign tx offline but they tend to be buggy sometimes. They're more tech oriented features.

I still recomend you use Electrum, import priv key, transfer to new addresses and NEVER reuse a previous address.
319  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitaddress.org Safe JavaScript Bitcoin address/private key on: September 07, 2015, 11:13:07 PM
Did you (at least) saved the QR code corresponding to the priv key?
320  Economy / Securities / Re: Offering to invest in companies/businesses on: September 07, 2015, 08:48:56 AM
Interesting initiative.

It's like an investment diary.

This will become a good educational source.

Good luck, gentlemen!
