QUICK UPDATE

The kobocoin android wallet is now available on both Google Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tribesman.kobocoin_android_wallet
&
Amazon AppStore
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kobocoin-Wallet-BETA/dp/B00XR73N9S/

I'm just waiting for BlackBerry World to come online (regulation and legal things needed to be resolved - almost a week talking with BlackBerry now). Once the link comes online we'll start publicizing the whole Kobocoin project.

iOS is a conundrum, but I'm in talks with the relevant people to resolve this. Apple don't seem to like cryptos (apart from DOGE). I have to find a way around this, or change their minds (yeah, right).

UPDATE

I've now added the BlackBerryOS wallet to BlackBerry World and I'm waiting for it to be reviewed and published. I'll post details once it's online. There are new desktop wallets (v2.1.0.3) which I'll update links to. This is not a compulsory update. The update only changes the trust verification to 7 stars.

Once I've updated the links, and the BlackBerry wallet is online, we'll start to publicize the release of the mobile wallets, and availability on Play Store and BlackBerry World.

I've been looking at API's in getting the KOBO > FIAT price information (plus exchange rate functions) for the mobile wallets. There's been some progress.

You can now check the USD price on the http://kobocoin.com website. I've added a live ticker.

UPDATE

Kobocoin has now gained 7 star verification.

Will it increase the value?

I can't predict that. I'm just grateful we're still on the exchange.

2. At present it's not possible to add labels to QR codes (i.e. on desktop wallet, QR codes cannot have Address label, Amount, Label or Message populated).
3. The unstable syncing issue is now workedaround. It is not yet fixed. It is utilizing a truly brutal workaround which seems to be providing some form of stability.
4. Exchange support (i.e. KOBO > FIAT conversion) is not available for the beta release.
5. When first installed, please allow 3 minutes for the wallet to start syncing and approx 30 mins for full sync (as of 05/2015).

Next Steps

1. Update website
2. Announce on Social Media
3. Add wallet to BlackBerry World (already started)
4. Look into Exchange feature for KOBO > FIAT conversion
5. Continue investigation into syncing issues
6. Start iOS development

I'll also look into applying branding and tidying anything else up. I'll try not to post too many updates to the mobile wallets. Updates will be bundled.

Please follow @kobocoindev on twitter. Now the mobile wallet is released, social media will be the main publicity tools for news and giveaways. Get your QR screenshots ready!

My androidwallet is syncing better I see Smiley
Yes, I'm now preparing an update. Mobile wallet and new QR enabled desktop wallets. Next step is getting the mobile wallet onto Google Play (and possibly BlackBerry World). Once this is done, an update/release will be posted and the rollout to users begins.

UPDATE:

The new MAC and Windows desktop wallets plus beta mobile wallet are ready but I'm trying to get the syncing issue fully resolved before releasing them.

Mobile wallets sync and follow blockchain for up to 1 hour before dropping away and needing a restart. Every time a change is made I have to reinstall the apk, sync the blockchain, and test for a few hours so it's been very long and slow progress but most android wallets will be performing a lot better now.

I can see that interest has dropped off a bit but I'll continue resolving this issue. It's not in anyone's best interest to release a buggy wallet.

It's a long game. We're still in it.

How things going with the syncing issue?

Which syncing issue , mine is perfectly synced...

A main update plus updated OP will be posted on the android sync issue is resolved.

I was just wondering of there still issues.

If i check network monitor and i look under "peers" block 141952 ATM . If i look under "blocks" i see 139876.
Yes, this is the syncing issue. Some wallets are fine. If I restart Apache, then all wallets will catch up, but some will continue syncing and others won't.

I've optimised fcgi (which is used by the wallets to get the block information you see in Network Monitor), but apache seems to be the cause of the stuttering. I could write a script that reloads Apache every few minutes but it's not really a solution (and each time it's restarted some wallets need to be restarted as well - I tried it already).

The personal issues I mentioned are now finally over so I'm back on the case properly from today. This one is a conundrum (so what's new eh?).

UPDATE

Windows Wallet with QR capabilities (v2.1.0.2) released

Click here to download the v2.1.0.2 WINDOWS wallet (full Installer)

MAC wallet to follow. Please backup your wallet before updating to v2.1.0.2.

I've tested with QR codes and it works (to an extent). It is able to scan the QR code but produces an error when any amount is requested. This needs to be fixed, but it's not a showstopper right now. The updated wallet now allows you to send coins from the android wallet to desktop. Unfortunately KOBO amount has to be inputted manually.

A main update plus updated OP will be posted on the android sync issue is resolved.

Android wallet works fine on my old G2.  Smiley

Do the mobile wallets do the PoS staking thing yet or just the desktop clients?

Any chance of the source please for v2.1?
At the moment only the desktop wallets can stake. We are looking into mobile staking but the current mobile wallets don't have that ability. The v2.1 source code is not going to be released at this time. It's being worked on (see update).

UPDATE

Apologies for the lack of updates. I've been dealing with some personal stuff. Please download the latest mobile wallets. There's a number of code changes. These will sync much more reliably. Once the backed issue is resolved they will sync properly. Please remember to backup your wallet before you update the app.

The mobile wallets may stall over the next few hours. I have things to deal with. I've narrowed down where the problem is coming from. It's from the backend, not the wallet itself. I've been using a workaround to keep things syncing. I'll look into possibly scripting it later today if it's reliable.
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: April 24, 2015, 06:10:21 AM
I've been working on the wallet sync issue over the last few hours so your wallet may have problems syncing.

I'm guessing that only affects the mobile wallet, as you have not specified. I have 13 connections on the windows client! Blocks are staying up to date as usual since the new desktop version.
Yes, all the work I'm doing is only for the mobile wallets. The desktop wallets will not be affected.

Jumia
Kasoa
GoShop
OLX
Konga

hoping these e-commerce sites will use Kobo as an alternative payment scheme in the future. OLX is fairly popular in the Southeast Asian region.

Thanks for this. I'll definitely be contacting those sites. It looks very promising.

Give you credit for persistance.

There be this thing in West Africa called a phone.
It has many advantages over the internet.

1, If fucking works all over the place unlike the internet.
2, All those folk know how to use their  Samsung and Apple apps.
3, There be something called M-Pesa that is proven, works and is not a scam ,

Why do you bother with this scamshit of yours.  Roll Eyes

I think the dev is doing a great job to promote the future of digital currency, payment technology and communication. teppupkcos; I respect your point of view and your strong belief in the 'status quo' of things and your reluctance to experimentation and progress. What I do not respect or understand is your feeble attempt to impose your narrowness of mind and vision on others.

This is not a scam in any way and the dev is working to better life for all, even you...

Don't pay any mind to those sorts of statements and comments (I certainly don't). They're not going to make one bit of difference to our progress. Everybody is allowed their opinion.
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: April 22, 2015, 05:57:12 PM
It looks like the syncing issue might be near to being resolved. My wallet is now between 3-10 minutes behind the blockchain. Other mobile wallets are probably performing better now because the wallet on my phone is loading hashes more quickly (and they're getting the benefit via cache).

Lag should be down at 0-3 minutes behind (in line with other mobile wallets), so I'll see what can be done to bring it down further.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: April 22, 2015, 02:38:42 PM
OK. Your wallets should have moved on now. I can see what the issue is. I'm working on it. Mobile wallet syncing may be a bit start/stop over the next few hours while I work on this.
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: April 22, 2015, 02:02:21 PM
OK. Glad to hear we're all at the same place. I was going to kick off the workaround earlier but at least now it's a larger test. I'll get started.
