301  Economy / Goods / Re: [BTC] $1,183.20 Amazon Balance [BTC] [MINERS CAN BUY EQP!] on: May 31, 2012, 04:43:50 AM
OP: If you want to have an auction, I'd suggest listing an ending time and bid increments, at the minimum.
302  Economy / Goods / Re: [BTC] $1,183.20 Amazon Balance [BTC] [MINERS CAN BUY EQP!] on: May 31, 2012, 04:42:30 AM
1.1 BTC.

(BTW, since when was this an auction?)

2 BTC, probably when the OP said "bid"

OP said looking for 170 BTC, but I guess he changed his mind.

3 BTC.

The alt coins would be a representation of a stock. If you hold a coin, you really hold a stock.

Let us say Company Taco Stand wants to sell 1000 shares of stock to get funding to open a second taco stand. What they will do is premine 1000 alt coins and then trade them for BTC.

The free market would set the fair value on the stock of that company.

So each asset issued would require its own blockchain? Trade fees won't be enough to bring too many miners in. Someone could easily 51% the alt-chain and invalidate/steal the asset.

Not trying to play devil's advocate, just pointing out a possible problem.

I didn't meant that it was insecure, I meant that people tend to try random stuff until something works, like you said.

"What's this popup window?"
"eh I'll just click OK and get done with it"

lol

Sorry, boring day, over-analyzing everything. My bad.
306  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Another 2 BTC bounty for CGminer and BFL singles! on: May 31, 2012, 03:27:40 AM
Freebie.  The only reason I knew is I had to find out the same thing like two days ago. Grin

That is wild......how on earth did you figure it out?

thanks man, much appreciated.

It's Windows - the best troubleshooting strategy is trying random stuff until something works.

That's why trojans get installed so much on it also. lol

Windows is targeted by more hackers because it controls the highest market share, not because of any inherent security vulnerabilities. Careful of correlation/causality differentiation.
307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitForce SC - full custom ASIC on: May 31, 2012, 03:26:21 AM
I think the hardware subforum should get a new rule. I am going to ask all the manufacturers to make official product threads, I am going to sticky those threads, and then we, collectively, are going to feel sorry for anyone dumb enough to troll in said official product threads.

What does everyone think?

I do not think this is prudent. In principle, it works, but in practice we'll just inevitably end up in endless debates over what does or does not count as a "product", whose threads get stickied when an excess of products develops (as it eventually will), etcetera. Every single time you or another mod chooses to sticky a thread, many people would inevitably become infuriated; stating that said product isn't a product, is a scam, isn't verified, "Why isn't my product stickied when this one is?", and the like.

Even if people complained much less than usual, I do not think it would be a good idea to have moderators choosing which products do or do not count. You guys do a wonderful job with no compensation, but regardless, in my opinion, that power/responsibility to stick "official" threads shouldn't be afforded when the choice cannot be easily quantified. (e.g. GH/s with pools)

Manufacturers are welcome to post and lock product announcement/update/order information threads, and update them when and how they so choose. Discussion threads such as this one are mostly useless, but differentiating between serious gripes and FUD/whining isn't always easy and, for similar reasons to the above, shouldn't be the task of any board moderation/administration IMO.

In short, attempting to stop trolling/censor, in euphemistic and dysphemisitic form respectively, would be akin to walking a tightrope of utopian bliss above a gaping maw of chaos, censorship, and eventual destruction. A risk I think we should not take.

Seems like a lot of kicking and screaming going on.

That sentence would apply to the entire forums on most days.

Excessive hyperbole, eloquent phrasing, exemplary word choice, and most importantly the above sentence.

Serena, I salute you.

Kudos Kluge for being extremely professional, cool-headed, and proactive about this. You have shown exemplary conduct in an extremely challenging and perhaps unfair situation.

If Icehill ever launches an IPO, I for one will be an investor.

-s com 6 is the issue and no I am not reading the whole thread.

1. That was a typo.
2. That was already mentioned.
3. The issue is already fixed.

I think I have it.  Open up cmd prompt and make the window larger in options, try 85W 50H.  Close that out and try your batch file again, It should work now that everything fits on the screen. Cheesy

So ya....no fucking way that worked, right?  Wrong......that worked perfectly.

Seriously....WTF??!

Address for bounty, and it is yours baby.  I learn the wierdest shit on a daily basis around here......

LOL. Ahh, Windows...

People still mine on that shit?

Don't be making fun of us relics......

Erm, Unix is far, far older than Windows.

Code:
C:\Users\user\Desktop\cgminer-2.4.1-win32\cgminer.exe -S COM3 -S COM4 -S COM6

If that works, CGminer just crashes with 4 -S arguments for whatever reason. If it fails, you've got a bad single, a bad cable, or the wrong COM port.
317  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 25 Ghash - Solo mine? Or GPUMax? on: May 30, 2012, 11:51:20 PM
I mine with p2pool for the cool factor more than anything Cool

I like how it brings Bitcoin back toward its more primitive state, when there were not pools which could have influence on development.

Interesting choice of phrase. I'd probably go for "less centralized".

Whatever you do, don't mine at Deepbit. Tycho's a nice guy, but his pool controls way too large a percentage of the network for anyone's safety.

Well it appears that he has competition from other pools with slush at 12%, Deepbit only at 9%.

Also appears to be a large amount of "unknown" miners.
not sure where you are looking to see that (Ozcoin was biggest Bitcoin pool recently according to blockchain.info 24 hour chart)
http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/top.php is recognised as the most accurate atm

Deepbit has about 3 TH/s, or about 30% of the network. I'm not talking about 24 hour distribution, that's susceptible to a lot of variance.
318  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BDK IPO, Monthly Profit Split from Operations -- Next Offering: June 2nd on: May 30, 2012, 03:08:29 PM
Kludge: Maybe it's time you splurged the hefty sum of 20 bitcoin to move over to the one exchange that actually works. By "actually works" I mean charges 1/4 as much per transaction as GLBSE does, is down an infinity percent less and in general has an infinity percent fewer issues, troubles, problems, defects and so forth.

Nefario: You are obviously unqualified to be anywhere near a project of the complexity of an exchange, even for play money (which I suspect BTC are, for most of you here, at least judging on behavior records). I will make you precisely one offer to buy the thing from you, so you get to actually make some money for all your effort over the past year, as misguided and mismanaged as it may have been, rather than have to walk away from a worthless wreck (like Zou Thong/Amir&co have with Bitcoinica). If you have half the maturity you should have to be involved in all this you will take this offer seriously, and consider your options carefully. Feel free to make contact via pm or in #bitcoin-otc-eu.

I suspect you'd get a lot more usage of your exchange (I would certainly use it) if you didn't consistently slander Nefario/GLBSE. Regardless of perceived qualifications, most people don't like working with, and excuse my bluntness, jerks.

320  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: May 30, 2012, 05:21:17 AM
I wonder how much I could get for selling my GPUmax account... Grin

GPUMax emails cannot be changed, which would pose a problem.

The obvious solution would be to implement a GPUMAX pass-through, but that would effectively negate the control Pirate has over hashpower volume. (and probably bring GPUMAX out of the wonderful stability it has enjoyed these past few weeks)
