301  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crowdfunding Help Me! 41.103% FUNDED! Buying a DSLR! on: August 07, 2014, 11:05:43 PM
Even a mid-rang DSLR can produce some nice shots and then add some post-processing to jazz it up. Here is an example I took using my Canon 600D.

302  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Safest country for exchange? on: August 07, 2014, 02:10:52 AM
Australia because;
1. The federal government have declared btc / crypto a legal currency.
2. The Australian Taxation Office treats btc as per fiat.
3. Trust already exists between Australian banks and existing btc exchanges.
4. Melbourne, Australia is already a btc hub for software developers.
5. Australia has a healthy btc economy e.g. you can buy 4wd racing cars right through to a cup of coffee on a smart phone QR reader
6. Cool people reside in Australia, namely me   Grin
303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is My Rig good for Mining? on: August 06, 2014, 11:37:21 PM
Invest in your own power supply for mining rigs and anything is profitable over an extended peroid (post power source payment).

I started BTC mining in 2010 and poured my 1st gen of profits into a 1.5kW solar panel array for my house. That was when GPUs were profitable and ASICs were stilla pipe dream.

With the advent of current ASICs, a hybrid power source (300W solar + 300W wind turbine) for about $500 will see you with an independent power supply. Set up your miner via an UPS, I got 3 for $1 each on evil bay (2nd hand), and use the RS232 interface to wake & sleep your mining rigs based on battery power levels. Depending on your current draw, you could get 24 hours use for something like a 30GHs R-box or 12~18 hours for a couple of mining setups.

306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You ever wonder...? on: August 04, 2014, 01:48:46 AM
unlike fiat, there are no central organisations looking to 'take the cash'. End result being less BTC on the open market and therefore price rises
307  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Rock Miner R-Box won't OC in BFGminer 4.5.0 on: August 01, 2014, 02:40:06 AM
in the start up command line you need to add
--anu-freq xxx

were xxx is the desired frequency. Default freq is 270.

I started running mine at 280 last week and is stable, hash rate and temp, so might bump it up some more.
308  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoind 0.9.2 uses 800MB of RAM at 30 connections! on: July 31, 2014, 10:49:10 PM
If developers think 800MB is acceptable and trending higher is expected, how in hell does the BTC community expect to become an everyday mobile app for commerce?

311  Economy / Economics / Argentina defaults on: July 30, 2014, 11:22:53 PM
In breaking news, a US hedge fund has refused a deal with the Argentina Government thereby forcing them into a debt default. Consequences are that a handful of businessmen are forcing  several million people into a deeper recession.

I smell a chance for BTC to push ahead in a similar manner as to Cyprus.

313  Economy / Services / Re: Aerospace Engineering graduate looking for work on: July 30, 2014, 02:08:51 AM
Nobody else noticed that he mentioned he will work for a relatively cheap rate of 1 BTC/Hour?
What kind of rates would you charge?

It depends on the job to be honest... but it won't be expensive (~1 BTC/hour). Send me a message if you are interested.

Back when this thread started, BTC was only $10~$40 each. Given an Aerospace Engineer typically earns $60~$100 per hour, the rates charged at time of writing were cheap.
314  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there room for a State Run Cryptocurrency? on: July 29, 2014, 05:36:28 AM
Canada was setting up a state run crypto currency called MintChip - I think it went on hold due to pressure from the US Govt.

318  Economy / Digital goods / [WTS] cyber crime & thriller ebook sale direct from the author on: July 28, 2014, 11:57:28 PM
With an Engineering background of over 20 years in high tech aspects of the Australian defence sector (e.g. Electronic warfare, aviation & armour) as well as Autonomous mining, I have launched into writing fictional ebooks in these genres.

Also being a bitcoin 'early adopter' since about 2010~2011, I accept BTC / LTC for these novels. I am currently in the process of developing a 'crypto point of sale' on my blog however until this is up and running, I am processing direct sales.

Please have a look at my smashwords https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/shaynetwright collection or my blog www.shaynetwright.wordpress.com to preview the novels then contact me with a PM if you like what you see and want to purchase.

Excerpts:
Cyber Nightmares #1: For the sake of nine million. --- FREE
A hi-tech cyber-criminal outfit, an underground gas storage facility and blackmail… Chris Whiteman and the Australian Computer Emergency Response Team might be ready but are they able?

Cyber Nightmares #2: Autonomous Chaos --- 0.01BTC
A rising power block fuels the flames of global cyber-warfare, the Australian outback is the newest battleground. The war of ones and zeroes spirals out of control, autonomous train operations for the iron ore super-pits of Western Australia are targeted for chaos. To the victor go the spoils, economic prosperity or financial ruin, which will it be?

Nature Abhors a Vacuum --- 0.005BTC
As winter grips New York, three newly homeless men descend into the cities dank underbelly in search of shelter. Mike, Leroy and Miguel discover that the upper sewer system is already overpopulated and are forced to descend lower into the cities bowels. Urban legends eagerly await the arrival of fresh flesh... Will any of them survive another winter?

Sisters of Salvation: Cult of Z --- 0.005BTC
The Sisters of Salvation, an 800 year old militant order within the Teutonic Knights, stand as the last line of defence for the human soul. Mother Superior Katherine Drexel has received reports, via the confessional intelligence network, that the most vile Cult of Z has arisen. All will have their faith tested however the Zombie hordes shall be halted! Well, that is the plan...
319  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are the reasons behind Bitcoin staying at $400-600 range after $1200 bubble on: July 28, 2014, 11:13:32 PM
Simple fundamental of gwp
.01% of gwp is 8bil
Mkt cap of btc

Thats 700k people
.01% of 7bil

So when btc has 7m users thats .1% of world pop

.1% of gwp 80bil

That is 5k btc

Now that blockchain is in apple app store

7m users gonna come fast

Blockchain my wallet data showed 700k users at peak of last bubble 1k

They got 1.8m now

Now they in apple so when their my wallets shows 7m user
Btc b 10k spike 5k floor

Thats what money people are saying

I like the logic.
320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin fading away? on: July 27, 2014, 11:02:48 PM
Every week I get asked by another few people about this BTC-thingy and how it works. I commonly tell them it is like an open bank ledger with miners performing the work of a banking mainframe, balancing the books. They want to know the advantage for them, I respond with practically zero fees or forex costs when purchasing from overseas - saving around 9% by $AU > $US (3%) + Credit card fee (3%) + bank processing fee (3%). After that talk, they generally want to sign up...
