3001  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT for money laundering? on: February 12, 2022, 05:09:54 AM
Because of its high price, NFT has become a new way in today's era to commit money laundering crimes. so it's no wonder from now on some countries have started to make rules to prevent this from happening. One of the recommended ways for the US Treasury is to limit the volume of transactions to be made on NFT sales.

In some deals and negotiations between criminal syndicates, expensive paintings and other artworks are being used as collateral instead of dealing in cash. NFTs are the perfect methods for this type of deal making because they are very valuable but also very portable.
3002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WSJ: How the Feds Tracked Hacked Bitfinex Funds on: February 12, 2022, 03:41:58 AM
@franky1. Do you trust this official press release to be the real story? I reckon real hackers and moneylaunderers who have control to more than $3 billion in bitcoin might be more careful and smarter. The skeptical me is beginning to think that those people in social media who speculate that they are only scapegoats might be correct. Would it be shocking if the hackers was a group commisioned by a corrupt government intelligence agency?
Have the authorities recovered any funds or is it just tracking and arresting some people?
but the main lot the ~95k[Wallet 1CGA4] never went through an exchange not cashed out by the pair, nor seized in 2017-21.
but instead seized in 2022

Quote
Between January 31, 2022, and February 1, 2022, law enforcement obtained approval to execute a lawful seizure
supported by probable cause under exigent circumstances and used the private keys from
LICHTENSTEIN’s file to seize Wallet 1CGA4’s remaining balance of approximately 94,636
BTC, worth $3.629 billion

Are the authorities not supposed to transfer those coins to a more secure wallet? It might not only be the comedy couple who is holding the private key for the wallet hehehe. This clearly should be very head shaking for everyone. The official story is not very convincing.

I am inclined to think that they are just part of the hacking group, perhaps scapegoats or those who collect initial info but not mainly the brains behind the actual hack. They are so fond of social media, and they have done things that could obviously put their identities in peril, and normally those who do some hacking do not engage in these kinds of activities.

The true hackers are still yet to be jailed, I believe. These two doesn't seem to be the masterminds of the heist from their most recent activities.
I do actually have the same thoughts that these couple arent the masterminds but rather just some cover ups on the said crime. It is really just impossible to think that hackers wouldnt really
be erasing their tracks that could possibly expose their identity which they are fully aware of that and its just dumb that they would be making out actions without considering that those
addresses were heavily monitored and im bit sure  that they are fully aware of that but this situation a little bit giving questions on my mind.

This makes it possible that the real hackers also hold the private keys for the wallet or the authorities do not really have the private keys for the wallet.

@coin-investor. I disagree. This appears to be a if they attack you, buy them strategy hehehe. There was an article published by Forbes that clearly was trying to create a very negative image for Binance and make the exchange look worse than reality. It appears that CZ did not forget this hehe.

Do not attack this man

@Hydrogen. On Dune if you are not a fan of the books, it will be hard to be a fan of the movie. Dune is not similar to Starwars where it was created like a tv soap opera with lasers, spaceships and as a marketing tool for commerical merchandising. Dune was a very good movie and it deserves the nomination for best picture, I reckon.

I'm a fan of David Lynch's Dune (1984) and the books.

The 2022 rendition of Dune doesn't do the story justice. Atreides disembark onto Arrakis decked out in full body armor. When the Harkonnens attack, the Atreides engage them without the body armor they wore earlier, or much in the way of weapons. This is never explained and doesn't make much sense.

The fictional character of Paul Atreides is supposed to have trained as a soldier and leader from a young age, and be very skilled in these areas. The actor selected to portray Paul Atreides in the 2022 Dune film looks like he was born and bred to be the ultimate accountant. Highly skilled at writing memos and paperwork. Otherwise, completely useless in terms of what the character is supposed to be.

The scene where palm trees are watered is anti science. Trees and plants would be placed inside an enclosure like a greenhouse where water and humidity could be trapped and retained. They would never be planted out in the open bleeding moisture. There are small details like this scattered around the film which are anti science or written by authors who fail to know the most basic aspects of common sense. The ornithopter and carry all designs also may have been flawed, although I can't remember exactly what issues I had with those.

I couldn't recommend 2022 Dune as it simply isn't faithful to the spirit of what the Dune genre stands for.

David Lynch’s Dune was very scattered. He tried to force everything in one movie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_7VInKnow

My only annoyance on Denis Villeneuve’s version is the incompleteness in introduction of the Dune universe, the politics, the guilds and the history. We might see this in the next movies, however.

They did not have body armor because they were not ready. Dr. Yueh turned off the shields and there was a surprise attack from the Harkonnens. It was detailed in the book. Gurney Halleck was also separated and he was assumed dead.

Paul is trained, however, he was not a soldier. In the book, it was also revealed to him that he was meant to be a mentat. Paul was also only 15 years old when they went to live in planet Arrakis.

The date palms were also described similarly in the book but by Dr. Yueh through talking to Jessica. Blame Frank Herbert if this is anti science. The movie is only following what is written in the book.

Where can we bet on predicting the correct score for the superbowl? I am not superstitious, however, I would like to make a bet on the Simpsons’ prediction on the Bengals winner with the correct of 34-31 hehehe. It appears that the show has predicted the superbowl correctly 3 times already according to social media.

3006  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: February 11, 2022, 02:16:14 AM
Perhaps the only surprise in the nominees for best picture is the absence of House Of Gucci, but all other nominees on the list are well-deserved (except, maybe, Don't Look Up). Power Of The Dog by Jane Campion is a strong favorite, with Spielberg's West Side Story as a strong secondary contender.

I agree on Don’t Look Up. It was an entertaining comedy but not a movie for the Oscar awards. However, always there is politics in this. Leonardo di Caprio has the Hollywood connections to make his contemporaries vote for his projects in exchange for a chance to get favors hehehe.

My strong secondary is Belfast and my third is Coda. They are very good movies that everyone should watch. I shake my head when someone said there were no good movies created on 2021.

3008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Binance, led by Changpeng Zhao, is taking a $200 million stake in Forbes on: February 11, 2022, 12:42:52 AM
Mainstream news media company publishes a negative article on Binance. Owner of Binance buys news media company hehehe.

I reckon Binance is taking a different marketing strategy from FTX in expanding their business to a more mainstream market. We have already witnessed FTX, crypto.com and some projects in the cryptospace partner themselves with sports teams and sports businesses to connect to a mainstream audience. It appears the crypto takeover might only be beginning.

Binance, the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, is making a $200 million strategic investment in Forbes, the 104-year-old magazine and digital publisher, CNBC has learned.

The funds will help Forbes execute on its plan to merge with a publicly traded special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, in the first quarter, according to people with knowledge of the deal.

I have read different interpretations of the story. There were some people in social media that were saying they were the hackers and there are also some people that were saying that they were only the moneylaunderers for the hackers. However, much of those who said that they were accused as the hackers were also saying that they cannot be the real hackers. They speculated that they were only scapegoats. This is head shaking after watching their Tiktok videos.

It also appears Heather Morgan who is one of the accused was a Forbes contributor. This article was written by her hehehe.

3012  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-01-27] Bill might give Yellen unilateral power to ban BTC and crypto on: February 10, 2022, 01:26:58 AM
This is why we should be open to ICO, IDO, IWO for democratic funding. Defi for trading without KYC. Anonymous altcoins for privacy and many other new developments that are being created. I know there will be scams, however, there are real projects that will make it very difficult for the government to take everything down because they are decentralized enough and there are many of them.
The problem is the vast majority of these achieve nothing. Almost every single ICO from the ICO craze has failed to live up to expectations and simply resulted in the owners taking money from the newbies who bought these scam coins. DeFi is more centralized than bitcoin, running centralized coins on centralized chains via centralized services, and is an easier target than bitcoin for government regulations. Most anonymous altcoins are nothing of the sort. Far easier for the government to shut down some tiny altcoin with a handful of nodes which is only traded on one or two exchanges than it is for it to shut down bitcoin.

We cannot be certain if bitcoin is being used for terrorist funding or if it is being used by drug cartels
It isn't. You an read my thread from a few days ago here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5383745.0. The Chainalysis report from last year, and the Europol report from just a few weeks ago both reached the same conclusion, that terrorists, drug cartels, and criminals in general, all still prefer using fiat, and proportionally fiat is used far more than cryptocurrency in illegal activities.

Arguable if ICO, IDO, IWO as a concept for a democratic type of funding might only be a craze. I am very much aware that 2015 - 2017 created many projects that have failed, however, there was a few that were successful also. Similar to the startup world, it is expected that more than 50% of them fail in the 5th year.

I am not telling everyone that there were no scams, there were many scams. However, we should also be open minded because the cryptospace is always developing and advancing. The world will have and use many blockchains, it will not only be bitcoin.

Also, what is worrying for me on Chainalysis’ assessment is what if the criminals are more competent in hiding through the cryptospace than what we thought.

@STT. The hosts for the presentation will be Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan. The jokes of Billy Crystal might not be funny and entertaining for the audiences of today. My father is a movie lover and he loves Billy Crystal hehehe. He has a collection of old comedy movies that starred Billy Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Steve Martin and other great comedians before 2000.

“black-ish” star Tracee Ellis Ross and actor-comedian Leslie Jordan will co-host the presentation, which can be viewed on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and on the film academy’s digital platforms (Twitter, YouTube and Facebook).

In any case, the odds have changed. The Power of the Dog movie and director is the sure favorite to win best picture and director, however, the leading actor of the movie Benedict Cumberbatch is 4.80 for best actor. Also, Belfast was the favorite before the announcment of the nominees. It is presently 3.60. I speculate both of them might have a winning chance.

I personally think Brady does not want to keep his off season regime up and knows he will not be as competitive if he plays next year without it.

He's a pretty honest guy IMO.

Does Brady’s being honest imply that he has really retired as he has announced in social media or does this imply that he does not know what he will feel in 6 months and he will take things as they come?

In any case, what are everyone’s bets for the superbowl? I want to take everyone’s advice and combine all of your analysis in sportsbet.io’s bet builder hehehehehe.

@South Park. I reckon Brady’s activities for the next 6 months might give everyone a clue if he is planning on going back or not.
3015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $3.6 billion in Bitcoin seized from Crocodile of Wall Street on: February 09, 2022, 03:35:47 AM
I would like to know two things:

How were the Bitfinex bitcoins stolen?

The Bitfinex hacked was in August 2016. The couple was not involved directly. But they are the one who laundered the stolen bitcoin through an elaborate scheme.

Quote
According to court documents, Lichtenstein and Morgan allegedly conspired to launder the proceeds of 119,754 bitcoin that were stolen from Bitfinex’s platform after a hacker breached Bitfinex’s systems and initiated more than 2,000 unauthorized transactions. Those unauthorized transactions sent the stolen bitcoin to a digital wallet under Lichtenstein’s control. Over the last five years, approximately 25,000 of those stolen bitcoin were transferred out of Lichtenstein’s wallet via a complicated money laundering process that ended with some of the stolen funds being deposited into financial accounts controlled by Lichtenstein and Morgan. The remainder of the stolen funds, comprising more than 94,000 bitcoin, remained in the wallet used to receive and store the illegal proceeds from the hack. After the execution of court-authorized search warrants of online accounts controlled by Lichtenstein and Morgan, special agents obtained access to files within an online account controlled by Lichtenstein. Those files contained the private keys required to access the digital wallet that directly received the funds stolen from Bitfinex, and allowed special agents to lawfully seize and recover more than 94,000 bitcoin that had been stolen from Bitfinex. The recovered bitcoin was valued at over $3.6 billion at the time of seizure.

Here is the official court document: https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-arrested-alleged-conspiracy-launder-45-billion-stolen-cryptocurrency

What does everyone speculate the special agents will do to the 94,000 coins that have been recovered? Will they return those coins to Bitfinex or will they hold it for safety and security?

Also, what does everyone think of this news? Is it bullish or bearish? It appears that it might be argued for either side hehehe.
3016  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-01-27] Bill might give Yellen unilateral power to ban BTC and crypto on: February 09, 2022, 02:49:01 AM
@Lucius. However, Janet Yellen and the Biden administration might take it further and combine the 2 biggest campaigns, the war on drugs and the war on terrorism, with the war on the cryptospace because bitcoin and other cryptocoins are being used by drug cartels and terrorists. It will leave every cryptocoin user’s head shaking hehehe.

Are there terrorist organizations that pose a serious threat to the US today? I think I am well informed about it, and I cannot remember the last time I read the news related to terrorism. The drug trade is a different story altogether, but the fact is that drug dealers still prefer good old greenbacks, which you can set on fire when you're cold (Escobar reportedly burned $2 million to keep his family warm). The US government may try to put Bitcoin in the story, but Bitcoin has little or no effect in all of this.

We cannot be certain if bitcoin is being used for terrorist funding or if it is being used by drug cartels, however, the government can always create a fake storyline and make this the central message of their war against the cryptospace. Similar to the war against drugs, the politicians that support it do not care if it works or does not work. The war on drugs has been going on since the 1970s and it has never been successful in ending drug cartels and illegal drug use.

@suchmoon. However, are those team names not similar to a tribute? Why would a team call themselves Redskins, Chiefs, Indians or Braves? I am quite certain no one had a meeting and agreed to adopt those team names to be racist. This woke culture might be created to make everyone confused and cause everyone to make opinions that escape logical perception.

Also, on football news, what does everyone speculate Tom Brady might do?

Could Tom Brady come out of retirement? When he was asked that question on his podcast, he gave something other than an emphatic “no.”

Asked by Jim Gray on his SiriusXM podcast about the possibility of coming out of retirement, Brady said he doesn’t anticipate it happening, but he can’t guarantee he won’t change his mind.

“You know, I’m just gonna take things as they come,” Brady said.

Brady saying he doesn’t know how he’ll feel in six months, when NFL teams are in training camp, is reminiscent of what Brett Favre said in an April 2008 interview with David Letterman, shortly after Favre announced his retirement. Favre left the door open just a crack to returning at that point, but at the start of training camp he did in fact return, and the Packers — having decided that Aaron Rodgers was their quarterback of the future — traded him to the Jets. Favre ended up playing a total of three more seasons, one with the Jets and two with the Vikings.

Split decision fights is not something I like to watch and you always have some controversy with referees and fights like this, but on paper Sean Strickland won and that is what really counts.
Julian Erosa won against Steven Peterson and he got bonus for performance of the night but he won with split decision, this was the night of split wins including co-main event.
I am glad this last UFC event finished so we can move to one to watch one of the best MMA fighters in the world Israel Adesanya against Robert Whittaker!

One of the judges did not watch the fight correctly or he is a corrupt judge who was paid by someone who had made a big bet on Jack Hermansson hehehe. It should be clearly a unanimous decision for Sean Strickland. The argument would be very similar if it was declared that Keith Thurman was a split decision winner versus Mario Barrios.

In any case, the next big news on NFT and illegal activities is this will be used directly as payment for some other illegal activities like trading state secrets. I hope for the life of this Indian officer, those nude pictures are expensive NFTs hehehehehe.

Indian officer busted after trading secret info with ‘Pakistani spies’ for nude pics

An Indian Air Force captain arrested for espionage this week was lured into a “honey trap” by two women with whom he exchanged intimate photos, local media reports. The “women” turned out to be Pakistani agents.
